Mackenzie had been at a rehabilitation hospital for the last month. Since she was in a coma for months, she had to build up the strength in her legs. Sam had been dividing his time between the rehabilitation hospital and the regular hospital. Mackenzie was being discharged tomorrow morning Riley Ann was also being discharged tomorrow morning. She had just gotten out of the shower and was drying off. Her phone rang. She went into the bedroom to answer it.
"Hello?" She said.
"Hi." Sam said
"Hi."
"What's up?"
"Not much, I'm about to go to bed."
"Me to."
"You know, you don't have to sleep at the hospital anymore." "Riley Ann is going to be fine."
"I know." "I just like being close to her."
"Are you sure you still want to come stay with us for awhile?" "You don't have to."
"I want to."
"Ok." "I can't wait to get her home."
"Neither can I."
The next morning Sam picked Mackenzie up at the hospital. Riley Ann was in her car seat in the back.
"Hi Riley Ann." Mackenzie said happily, looking in the back seat. "Ready to go home?"
"Ga." She said.
"Yeah?" "So is mommy."
Later that night it was Riley Ann's bedtime.
"Time for bed." Mackenzie said.
"I'll do it." "You just relax."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
"Ok." She kissed Riley Ann on the cheek. "Night night, mommy loves you."
When Sam came back down five minutes later Mackenzie was sitting on the couch.
"I want to talk to you." She said. "Come here." He sat down next to her. "I've been doing a lot of thinking." "You've been so great for months, putting your life on hold for us."
"You guys are my family." "I'm where I want to be."
"When I realized I lost those months, it really scared me." "I could've died." "It made me realize what's really important in life." "Riley Ann." "And you." "I love you Sam." "I want to be together." "If it's to late I understand." "I know how many times I told you no."
"You love me?" He said smiling.
"Yes." He kissed her. She kissed him back.
"Of course I want you back, I love you."
