A/N: Last chapter took place on Sunday, this chapter takes place on Tuesday.
'Bunny please, I'm getting late for work.' Chief Charlie Swan sat besides his daughter at the dining table, trying to make her drink a glass of milk.
'No, no, no, no' Bella sang. Rach and Becca had told her yesterday that strawberry was the best flavor of milk. No amount of pleading from Charlie was going to make her drink chocolate flavored milk.
'Bella ple- ' Charlie's latest plea was cut off by the telephone ringing. Leaving Bella with her untouched glass of milk, he hurried to answer it.
'Charlie?' Sue Clearwater's dangerously sweet voice made him jump up in fear.
'Yes, Sue?'
'Leah came to breakfast this morning with a green water color streak down her arm that is supposed to be a dragon. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?'
Charlie swore under his breath. In the midst of all the tears, telling the girls about painting on paper instead of their skins had completely slipped his mind. 'Er..that is to say..'
'Charlie Swan if I wasn't pregnant, I would have ridden over there to kick your ass.'
'I know, I know, I'll talk to the girls this evening.'
Sue sighed down the line. 'Can you buy some presents for the twins from me? I'll pay you back in the evening.'
Charlie's voice softened. 'Of course, Sue. Don't come to Sarah's, I'll drop Leah off. You make sure you don't work too hard.'
Sue snorted. 'Tell that to the patients. Speaking of work, don't you have to be there in 30 minutes?'
'Shit, gotta go, Sue. See you in the evening.'
Without waiting for Sue's response, Charlie hung up and turned around to face Bella who was fiddling with her hair band. The glass of milk was still untouched. Charlie grabbed the glass and downed it himself, and herded Bella off to wear her shoes. Sarah Black babysitted Bella and Leah on the weekdays and he had to drop Bella at her place. How that woman managed the girls in addition to her own children was a mystery to him, but he was grateful for it. As he locked the door, he made a mental note to buy strawberry flavored syrup.
'Alright girls, what is wrong?' Charlie was worried. Bella and Leah weren't giggling and whispering to each other in the backseat like they usually did. In fact, ever since he picked the girls up from the Black's house, neither of them had said a word.
'Stupid Jake.' Leah answered.
'Did he draw on one of your barbies again?' Charlie asked. Although, that incident had resulted in the girls pulling Jake's hair, not this subdued behavior.
'No. He made Rach and Becca a card too. With flowers on it.' Bella complained.
Charlie noticed that she said "flowers" instead of "flowahs". He must remember to thank Sarah later. It was probably Sarah who had helped Jake with the card.
'Now we can't give our card to Rach and Becca.' Leah whined.
Charlie remembered his birthday last year when both his neighbors had given him identical gardening shears. He certainly hadn't complained. But he could see why Leah and Bella were upset.
'Daddy' Bella whined from the backseat.
'What if I show you how to paint special flowers on the card? ' He made a mental note to tell Sarah not to teach Jake the "special flowers" till after the birthday party.
'How special?' Leah demanded.
Charlie frowned. What was he even supposed to say to that? 'Er..Grandma Swan taught me how to paint them. Jake definitely doesn't know about these.'
That seemed to satisfy them. They immediately began a discussion about which color would be best for the "special flowers." As Charlie heaved a sigh of relief, he forgot all about the "no painting on your skin" lecture.
