Rosalie sits at the perfect dining table, waiting for the rest of her family to arrive. Carlisle is there, and so is Esme. The rest haven't arrived yet. She wonders why they have a dining table when all of them eat in the wild. She shudders at the thought. Even after decades and decades of hunting, it's still a messy process that leaves them all covered in blood. And it doesn't help that Rosalie loves animals. As a human, she preferred vegetarian food, and was always getting in trouble with her parents for bringing home stray cats. And here she is, draining the blood out of animals, just to stay alive.
Carlisle looks sadly at Rosalie. He knew he was being selfish by saving her. But she was so young, so vibrant, and all that was cruelly taken from her. He wanted her to have the chance to live a fulfilling life, to not let some scum steal her dreams and desires. She was the cleanest of his children; and yet, resentment brewed in her mind. Resentment against the forced transformation, resentment at not being able to have children, resentment at having to attend high school decade after decade. All his children accuse him of favoritism towards Edward, and yet if push came to shove, he would choose Rosalie over any of them. Yet, she never seemed to warm to him, or to anyone else.
With both Rosalie and Carlisle brooding, Esme was glad when the rest of the Cullens came in.
Efficiently, Edward explained that he had possibly found his singer. Jasper and Emmet took the lead in the ensuing discussion, quizzing Edward about the scent of the human's blood, and how it affected him, concluding that she was most definitely his singer.
"We need to leave." Edward said. " I'm not sure I can resist the temptation of her blood."
While everyone agreed, they were also dismayed.
"Not that I'm blaming you, but we have only been here for one day!" Jasper exclaimed. "New paper work will take two more weeks."
"We have all the time in the world, Jazz." Alice consoled. "And besides, I was getting tired of this dull, rainy place."
"I agree with Jasper. Moving again is too much of a hassle." Rosalie said.
"But the girl's life is in danger." Edward argued.
Carlisle watched as his children talked. All of them made valid points. The safety of this girl was paramount and yet, if they moved too soon, it would raise suspicion. In his mind, there was only one thing to do. He cleared his throat. Everyone stopped speaking and looked at him.
"The only logical course of action is to split up."
It took them two hours to hammer out all the details. Stories were checked and cross checked, all possible loop holes eliminated. Esme would take Edward, Alice and Emmet and head north. Alice's mental skills and Emmet's brawn were needed to monitor Edward, incase he lost control and decided to come back for his singer.
Jasper, Rosalie and Carlisle would stay here. Jasper could have gone with the rest, but the fiction of him and Rosalie being twins needed to be maintained.
Within the next two week, papers were drawn up and arrangements were made in accordance with the human world. Edward called in sick with mono for a week, before the papers transferred him, Alice and Emmet out of the Forks highschool.
The night they departed was the night Sam Uley came down with the first of many light fevers.
