Chapter 9: Deku's Destiny
Izuku and Ammon stared in speechless awe at what they thought was an old beggar woman begging for scraps turned out to be none other than Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Strategy and War. "Athena...?" The former murmured
Athena smiled. "First, I would like to thank you for helping Bubo." She replied. "Bubo?" Izuku asked in confusion. The goddess gestured to the owl on the table. At that moment, it glowed brightly for a moment and to Izuku's and Ammon's shock, the sling fell away and the owl spread its wings; completely healed
"Hoo! Hoo!" The owl hooted before it flew up onto Athena's shoulder. The goddess giggled as she stroked it on the head. "Bubo has been watching over you ever since he came to this world." She replied. "He also says you were very brave, saving him from the cultist." Izuku blushed brightly. "Wait a minute...what do you mean by Champion?" Ammon spoke up.
Athena nodded before turning back to Izuku. "Midoriya...you have been chosen by my father to be a Champion of the Pantheons." She explained. "I knew it the moment I saw you in the bookstore at Mustafa." Ammon grew startled. "A Champion...?" He exclaimed. "This boy...?!"
The goddess nodded again. "Yes, Ammon." She replied. "This boy is destined to unite the Pantheons and stop an ancient evil from rising." "Ancient evil...?" Izuku asked, his eyes widening. "Are you talking about...?!"
"Yes..." Athena replied, a grim expression on her face. "I am referring to the King of the Titans..." "KRONOS!?" Izuku and Ammon gasped in shock and horror. "That's not possible!" The latter pointed out. "Kronos is imprisoned in Tartarus!"
"His body may be imprisoned but if he's anything like me and the other gods, he doesn't necessarily NEED his own body to see what's going on." Athena replied. "Then...the cultist that attacked us..." Ammon gasped.
"Yes..." Athena explained, with a sigh. "I'm afraid he is just one of the mortal agents he uses to do his dirty work." Izuku blinked a bit. "I...can't believe it..." He mumbled. "but how...I thought you were just...myths?" Athena chuckled. "Well, it is a long story." She replied.
"After the Great War, Zeus and the 7 High Gods formed a union called the Pantheon Alliance." She explained. "A union that would watch over and protect humanity." "We took great pride in protecting the Earth and the mortals." She added
"Sadly, as time passed, humanity began to expand and advance over the years..." She sighed, growing forlorn. "They began to rely less on the gods and without faith, our powers weakened."
Izuku and Ammon listened quietly. "This caused heated...tension between the gods." Athena continued. "Some of them believe that humanity should return back to the old ways and needed to be subjugated; others believe in their original mission to protect humanity."
"Many gods began to fight amongst themselves, and it seemed civil war among the pantheons could break out." Athena replied. "Finally, in a desperate attempt to stop the war, Zeus and Odin spoke with the Oracle and she came up with the best solution..."
Izuku grew more curious. "What happened?" He asked. "Across the universe, there are other Earths..." Athena replied. "Earths that may resemble yours but have been...altered..." "Altered?" Izuku repeated. "So, this means...this Earth...is..."
"An alternate version of yours." Athena replied. "One where ancient civilizations and myths merge and live together..." "I see..." Izuku replied. "But what has that got to do with...me?" "Although, we live in peace in this world," Athena explained."I fear that Kronos and his followers have not forgotten us"
"The Oracle warned us that one day, Kronos would escape his imprisonment and exact his revenge on the gods and the world." She added. "His revenge extends to both worlds...and he has followers loyal to his cause from both this world and your world."
"However, the Oracle also told us a hero would be chosen to stop him..." She continued. "A hero blessed with the powers of gods and great warriors." Izuku's eyes widened. "Me?" He asked
Athena smiled and nodded. "Yes, young Midoriya..." She replied. "You are that hero..." Izuku nearly staggered and had to support himself. "I...don't know what to say..." He mumbled. "Hold on!" Ammon pointed out. "Goddess, are you really sure about this?" "Izuku is just a child, this is a heavy burden to place on one so young..."
"Do not worry, old poet." Athena replied. "Izuku may be young, but he has great potential." "Plus, he has the support of my fellow Olympians." She added. "We can guide him and train him to his destiny."
"Why...?" Izuku asked, getting both of their attention. "Why me?" "I don't have any quirks." He pointed out. "Why choose me of all people?" Athena gave him a comforting look. "You don't need a quirk to be a hero." She replied. "Your heart is pure and your spirit is strong with energy and courage."
"When I saw you in the bookstore, I saw a boy with a gentle and kind soul who wanted to help protect his fellow men." She added. "That is why I left you the medallion, to help you find your destiny."
"The medallion!" Izuku cried, reaching into his shirt and pulling out the medallion. "I found it in the book you gave me." "I wanted you to have it." Athena replied. "You stand on the edge of a great path."
"Good heavens..." Ammon whispered. "Chosen by the gods themselves...such an event has never been heard before..." "Athena...I am grateful." Izuku replied with awe in his voice. "But, all I want to do right now is go back home."
Athena smiled affectionately. "Your amulet can send you back." She told him. "All you have to do picture your home and concentrate; the amulet will take you back to your home." "You mean I could go home anytime I want?" Izuku asked.
Athena giggled. "Anytime you want." She affirmed. "And if you ever wish to return here, just picture the many realms of this world and you will be there." Ammon placed a hand on Izuku's shoulder. "Well, my boy." He spoke with a smile. "Looks like you found your way home."
Izuku breathed a sigh of relief before he turned back. "Athena, do you really think I cam be a hero?" He asked. "All heroes have humble beginnings." Athena replied gently. "Anyone can be a hero but only those who believe in themselves can become legends."
"Just remember, all you need is faith, courage and wisdom." She added. "Remember, I will be watching over you and guiding you to your destiny." "Th-Thank you..." Izuku replied, before he turned to Ammon. "Thank you for taking care of me." He told him.
The old poet smiled. "I believe I'll be seeing more of you soon." He pointed out. Izuku nodded and taking a deep breath, he held onto his amulet and closed his eyes. He thought about his mother, Ochako, All Might and his home.
Soon, a bright light surrounded him and engulfed him completely. Soon enough, he disappeared into the light. Ammon whistled quietly. "Incredible..." He murmured. "I don't think I will ever forget this, right Athena?" He turned to the goddess only to find no one there.
For a moment, Ammon stared at the blank spaces before he felt something rub against his leg. He looked down to see a grey tabby purring softly. He chuckled and lifted the cat in his arms. "Looks like I have a new idea for a poem now..." He joked.
(Back in Mustafa...)
"I'm sorry, ma'am..." A police officer told a distraught Inko and a worried Ochako along with her parents. "There's still no sigh of your son." Inko couldn't hold back the tears. "No...No..." She begged. "Please, there has to be something you can do..."
"Ma'am, it's been over a week." The officer sighed. "There was no signs of struggle and the only clue we found is an old book and a strange symbol on the ceiling." Poor Inko didn't know what to say. She had been a complete wreck ever since her son disappeared.
She was startled when she found his room empty and a strange symbol on the ceiling. She quickly informed the police and called his school. She even called Ochako and her family, asking if they had seen him, but they didn't.
The police had been searching the neighborhood from top to bottom. Even All-Might joined in, when he heard news of Izuku's disappearance. However, after a week of no success, they were beginning to lose hope.
"Please!" Ochako exclaimed, a look of worry. "We can't give up!" "Deku is my friend!" She added. "You have to find him!" Her parents tried to calm her down, but to no avail. "Kid, we are doing everything we can." The officer replied. "I just can't understand how he could have disappeared, all we can do is hope All-Might has better luck than we are."
"I am here!" A loud voice called out and All-Might landed before the group. "All-Might!" Ochako exclaimed. "Did you find Deku?!" "Yes, is my son alright!?" Inko asked worriedly. All-Might sighed. "I'm sorry..." He replied solemnly. "I've searched the entire town...there is no trace of him..."
Inko felt as if the ground would swallow her up. "No...why..." She croaked, close to breaking down. "Why...?" Ochako's mother wrapped her arms around her to comfort her while her husband tried to console their daughter who was also in tears.
All-Might looked on in shame, before he turned to the officer. "Any luck, officer?" He asked. The officer sadly shook his head. "No good, All-Might." He replied. "It's as if he disappeared of the face of the earth."
All-Might clenched his fists. "Dammit..." He muttered. "Where could he be?" The officer cleared his throat. "Well, I have to file a report back in the station if that's alright with you." He pointed out. "Yes..." All-Might replied. "Do what you can, I'll stay here and comfort Mrs. Midoriya."
The officer tipped his cap and got into his police car, before driving off. "All-Might..." Ochako's father spoke up in concern. "Is there nothing we can do to help?" All-Might sighed. "I'm afraid not." He replied. "All we can do is pray and hope for a miracle..."
"Hope...?" Inko spoke up, her cheeks stained with tears. "Hope...?!" "How is hope going to help us?!" She snapped, scaring the others. "Mrs. Midoriya...I understand you're upset..." All-Might tried to assure her. "But we are doing the best we can..."
"Upset isn't going to cut it!" Inko screamed, getting them to jump. "Upset isn't going to describe how I'm feeling right now!" "Inko, please calm down!" Ochako's father spoke worriedly. "DON'T TELL ME TO CALL DOWN!" Inko yelled at his face, getting him to gasp in fright and back away. "HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOUR DAUGHTER WAS TAKEN AWAY?!"
"I just want my son back!" She added, her voice cracking and tears welling up in her eyes. "Why can't you find him?!" "I just what to know where the hell is my son?!" Inko wailed as she collapsed to her knees and sobbed into her hands.
Ochako was also upset but now seeing Inko break down in tears, caused her to lose control of her emotions too. She ran forward and hugged the crying woman who threw her arms around the girl, as they sobbed uncontrollably. Ochako's parents and All-Might could only watch in despair, unable to say anything to comfort them.
*HMMMMM*
Suddenly, a strange humming sound got their attention. "Wh-What was that?" Ochako asked worriedly. All-Might grew on full alert before he noticed a strange light appeared behind them. "Wha-What in the world?" He muttered
Before they knew it, the light grew bigger and brighter, causing them to gasp in shock. "What is that?!" Ochako screamed. "Everyone, get behind me!" All-Might called, stepping in front of Mrs. Midoriya and the Uraraka family.
As they watched the light, something strange happened. The light began to shift and change shape, looking almost humanoid. As the light died away, they all stared in astonishment. Right before them, was none other than Izuku Midoriya.
The green-haired boy coughed and waved the dust away. When he opened his eyes, he found his mother, Ochako and her parents and All-Might staring at him with wide eyes and mouths agape. "H-Hello..." Izuku stammered with a smile.
"IZUKU!" Inko screamed before she tackled her son into a tight hug. "MY BABY!" She wailed, sobbing uncontrollably as she hugged her son tightly. "You're back...My baby's back!" Izuku wrapped his arms around his mother tightly. "Mom...I'm home..." He whispered.
"Izuku!" The latter turned and found himself tackled into another hug, this time by Ochako. "You're alright!" She squealed, crying into his chest. "You're back!" "I'm sorry for worrying Ochako." Izuku replied. "I'm back now..."
Ochako's parents and All-Might stared in shock. "Young Midoriya...?" The latter asked. "How...Where have you been...?" "And what are you wearing...?" He added, gesturing to Izuku's attire. It was then everyone noticed Izuku's strange clothes.
The latter realized that he was still wearing the Greek clothes. "Oh...yeah..." He replied, with an embarrassed blush. "It's a long story..."
