"Our Lady of the Hospital" for the clone medics.
This one goes out to Coric, Kix, Korbel, Oake, Patch, Splice, and all the clone medics!
The Medic in the Hospital [The Clone War]
He sits in our long dark ward,
By the light of a shaded lamp,
No sound but the groans of injured men
And those on watch heavy tramp:
No sound but the cries of injured men
And the Clankers on the field unceasingly groan
For miles upon miles each side of our ward,
Are the remnants of battle fought not long ago.
We lie here in shadow and gloom,
No light but a speck of a lamp,
The medics working round the clock,
The shinies speak for the last time.
Chill are these hospital tents and sheds
And then the silence is dreadfully deep,
Save a grown as our wounded turn in their lone beds,
Or talk in their troubled sleep.
Hundreds of men – 'twas a sorry sight –
Across the field they lay still
Generation One having seen the war through
And the new Gen, their youth still bright.
There brother they all are pack'd side by side
Laid on the battlefields' common rough bier,
But I'm thankful at heart, that one poor shiny died
With the knowledge that he was near.
The bay is silent again
As our medic resumes his place,
And I see, as I watch him, a patient pain
That is pitiful in his face;
The medic's work neverending,
O, Force! That ever our sorrows will share!
Now I see by the light of the shaded lamp,
Tears fall on the page of his prayer.
