They were quiet the whole time. They played a few games of cards with one another, but never spoke, unsure of what to do or how to feel, until the moment Davy woke up again. He sat up and blinked, looking around at each of the faces.
"Hey, Davy." Micky whispered with a smile, noticing he was awake. The other two quickly turned to face him to see.
"How are you feeling?"
Davy didn't answer right away. He frowned and thought about it for a moment.
"I don't know," he said finally and Micky let out a sigh.
"Do you need anything?" He offered and Davy looked around the train car as if he was seeing it all for the first time, not responding.
"Davy?" Peter asked, getting his attention.
"You're back on the train, Davy," he said in a dark whisper. "I'm sorry, but you're here."
Davy sighed and laid back down.
"Just leave me alone," he muttered, closing his eyes again.
"I don't think that's a very good idea—" Peter started to say, being cut off when Mike put his hand over his mouth.
"Sure, Davy," Micky nodded sadly. "Yeah, of course."
Davy groaned and turned over on his side, his back facing them.
Mike frowned and looked over at Peter and Micky.
"Micky?" He asked in a whisper.
"Before you ask, he's fine," he looked down. "Or at least, I think he is, but that's not what we should be worrying about right now."
"What should we be worrying about right now?" Mike asked, causing Micky to go quiet.
"There's nothing you should ever be worrying about," Peter smiled, trying to be comforting, but it only made Mike feel more uneasy.
"Peter, should I be worrying about something?"
Peter let out a sigh.
"Of course not. If you have nothing to worry about, you're fine."
Mike looked at him confused, Peter thought for a minute, unsure of how to clarify himself.
"If there's nothing to worry about, don't worry," he said finally and Mike scoffed.
"What's going on?"
It was Micky's turn to let out a sigh. He went over and grabbed Mike by the shoulders, causing him to tense up.
"You're here. You're on the train."
Mike frowned.
"Oh…kay?" He said, raising his pitch at the end as if it was a question.
"That's all you need to be worrying about, Mike," Micky said sternly. Even though they had just met, Mike could tell that it was odd and unusual to see Micky this serious.
"You just gotta hold on," Peter added with a smile. Mike groaned.
"What? Did I say something wrong?" He stammered nervously and Mike shook his head.
"No, you didn't say anything wrong, it's just that—" Mike looked down. "I mean, do either of you even know what that means?"
"Just hold on means don't give up and kill yourself when things get rough," Davy joked. Nobody laughed. Mike and Peter hadn't even paid much attention to the comment, but Micky shot Davy a look, despite the fact he couldn't see it. Peter shrugged.
"I mean, Davy's kinda right," he said, fiddling with his hands. "No matter how hard it gets, you just gotta keep pushing on. You can't stop and give up just because something upsetting happens."
Mike sighs and nods in understanding. Micky looked over at Peter, an unreadable expression on his face.
"I think it's more than that, Peter…" he muttered.
"What is it then?"
Peter was only being curious. He didn't mean for the question to come off badly, but Micky glared at him, mouth hung open slightly as he stammered, trying to find the words.
"It's-it's…it's something people say when they need you. Just hold on, because regardless of how much you want to let go, I need you to hold on. They need you to hold on so you have to. Because it will be your fault if you let go."
To say that Mike and Peter were startled by the answer would be an understatement. Peter's eyes widened with fear and worry. Mike opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He was more shocked than anything else at his comment.
"Micky…" he started, carefully placing the words together. "Micky, are you okay?"
"Of course," Micky said with a smile, looking at him and at Peter. "Why wouldn't I be?"
Before either had the chance to respond, the car door opened and Tommy stepped into the compartment.
"TOMMY!" Micky yelled, going over to him. "What's happening?"
Tommy eyed him suspiciously, noticing something off about him but pushed it aside.
"I come with news," he said vaguely, causing even Davy to turn around in curiosity.
"Oh?" He asked, a slight amused smirk on face.
Tommy nodded and reached into his bag, pulling out four different envelopes and handing one to each.
"What's this?" Mike asked, holding it up.
"It's pretty cool actually," Micky explained. "We get these every now and then. Kind of like updates on whatever we're missing in our lives."
"Oh," he said, staring at it.
Micky and Davy were the first two to open theirs. They tore them right open and read the papers over, both with similar frowns. Peter hesitated a minute before opening his. He looked at it for maybe a second before pushing it into his pocket with shaky hands.
Mike looked up at Tommy and handed his envelope back.
"Thanks, but I think I'll pass this time," he decided and Tommy nodded, not questioning it. He took Mike's envelope and placed it back in his bag, he happened to look back over at Peter. He let out a sigh as he walked toward the blonde.
"Yes," was all he said. Peter frowned and looked up.
"What?"
"Yes," Tommy repeated. "The answer to your question. It's yes."
"He didn't ask a question," Mike said frowning and Tommy let out a heavy sigh.
"He doesn't have to while he's here!" He snapped, annoyed. "All he has to do is think it, and we'll hear."
Everyone was silent for a moment.
"You can hear our thoughts?" Micky asked with a slight grin. Tommy cringed.
"I'm going to regret this, aren't I?" He muttered to himself, closing his eyes.
"What am I thinking of right now?"
Micky grinned and Tommy let out a groan.
"You think you're so funny, don't you, Mr. Dolenz?"
Micky laughed and Tommy sighed, looking back over at Peter, whose revelation was beginning to sink in. He looked back up at Tommy with wide eyes, Tommy only nodded before leaving.
"Oh…" Peter said quietly.
"What is it?" Mike asked, putting his hand on Peter's shoulder.
"I…I asked if I've been here on the train before. Guess I got my answer."
