ADAS KALLIG

I was standing in the corner of the chamber, hidden from party guests by the large column. All my thoughts were focused on the most important mission I was ever to carry out so far. The mission was to propose to Lana.

Some people might find it weird that I didn't already do it, but Lana and I were always very independent people, content to just be in each other's company. There was also the fact that most of our lives consisted of various adventures and wars, so marrying was never a priority. That was why I had always thought of marriage as an unimportant formality.

Oh, how wrong I was.

My disregard of marriage almost killed me! Mother Talzin, probably assuming the relationship between Lana and me wasn't that serious, came up with a nefarious plot to set me up with one of her daughters! I could already see it: During the party on Dathomir a nightsister would try to seduce me, using her female charms. I would of course refuse, as I am faithful to Lana, and return to my room to rest. Only one of the nightsisters would already wait for me there, most likely naked. Knowing my luck it would be Ventress, who already had a crush on me. She would seductively lean on me the moment Lana would enter the room, looking for me. She would be greeted by the sight of a naked woman in my arms and it would make her think I was cheating on her. Then I would die.

I knew how it worked! I watched many holovids with the exact same plot!

To stop this dark future I had to propose to Lana as soon as possible. However just casually proposing was out of the question. Lana deserved the best, so everything had to be perfect. The place itself was sufficient for the proposal, as there was nothing more romantic than your every minion watching you do that. However this proposal had to be unforgettable, so I also had to create a proper mood.

To realize it I had to reach for outside help.

"This is Obsidian, is everyone in position?" I asked through the communicator. After my conversation with Talzin I decided to gather a crew, which would help me with my mission. I knew that this task could be too much for me on my own, so I recruited various specialists, which would help me with achieving the objective. The process of recruitment was long and strict, but I ended with the most talented specialists in the entire galaxy.

"This is Sapphire, I am in the position" Came the voice of a demure twi'lek with a mysterious past I encountered on Korriban. She impressed me with her technological skills and ability to blend into any crowd, making it easy for me to choose her as our tech expert.

" .READY" responded an enigmatic giant with a hidden soft site I recruited during one of the parties I took part of. He was a man of few words, who preferred to communicate through his actions, something I really respected. Ever since I approached him during the party he has shown himself as a dependable crew member and a good friend, so I knew I could trust him to get his job done.

"…I don…I don't feel so good…I'ma gona..." responded Ruby, a passionate youth hungry for guidance, whom I met while he was drinking his sadness away, devoid of purpose. I sympathized with his suffering, so I decided to take him under my wing and teach him everything I knew. I could see he had a lot of talent, though he still lacked experience. I could only hope he wouldn't crumble under the pressure of this job.

This was my crew, people I deemed as capable enough to pull the mission off. There was actually one more member I considered recruiting into the crew, but I ultimately decided against it. Emerald was a very competent woman, but she was also completely ruthless. My moral objections made it impossible for us to work together, so our paths diverged.

"As everyone is ready, it's time for the final stage of the plan" I announced. Everything was planned down to the tiniest detail, so there was only one thing left to do. "It's showtime!"

The moment I said it, everyone started moving. Guests couldn't even react as Red Rock entered the room, pushing a large platform in front of himself. Ignoring everyone's confusion, he placed it in the middle of the chamber before quickly retreating to the corner of the room. His job was done, so all he had to do was to watch others completing their tasks.

Not wanting to waste the opportunity presented to me. I quickly came from behind the column and climbed the platform, getting everyone's attention. Waiting for this, Ruby started playing a romantic melody on his bandfill, swaying slowly to the rhythm. Well, he wasn't actually playing on the instrument, as it was only a playback, he was also only swaying because he was wasted and I had to actually use the force to stop him from falling into the ground, but it wasn't important. He completed his task admirably.

Then Sapphire, our tech specialist and last member, turned on a huge reflector we brought to the chamber in secret, illuminating me and making me stand out even more. Sapphire did well, I was proud of her. Now that the scene was set, it was time for the final act.

"Lana Beniko!" I exclaimed, looking at my girlfriend. She returned my gaze, giving me a wry smile and waiting for me to continue. Looking at her I was sure, this was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my (second) life with. Filled with conviction, I fell on my knee and shouted. "Will you marry me?!"

She looked momentarily surprised, as if she didn't expect me to say something like that. However, after a small pause, she gave me a huge smile as she started walking in my direction, her every step full of confidence. Everyone in the crowd was looking at her , though she didn't pay them any attention, her eyes only on me. After a few seconds, which for me felt like an eternity, she reached the platform I was standing on. I used the force to raise her from the ground and move her to the top of the platform. After she landed there, she looked at me with a smile for a few seconds, before finally opening her mouth.

"I will" She simply responded with eyes full of emotion. It wasn't a long response, but to me it sounded like the most beautiful speech in the galaxy. Everyone in the chamber started congratulating us, shouting and clapping, but I ignored them, overwhelmed by happiness, my attention only on my new fiancee. It was truly a wonderful moment, one I will remember for the rest of my life. While I was being engrossed in my emotions, Lana decided to approach me. She stood before my kneeling form and raised her left hand to my eye level. Despite my confusion she was keeping it there, as if waiting for something.

Hmm? What was she…

Something was wrong, I thought, as alarms started ringing in my mind. I had a hunch that I forgot about something really important, but what was it?! . Calm down Adas, there was no need to panic. Let's do a quick check…

Platform- check.

Music- check.

Light- check.

Ring….

I smiled innocently at Lana, who was still waiting with her hand still extended, trying to stop myself from hyperventilating. Not good, not fucking good! Sweat started to run down my forehead, as I was thinking how to get out of this situation. Apparently my weird behavior made Lana suspect something, as the smile on her face started to slowly fade, replaced by a growing frown and a beginning of an angry glare. This was really bad! My mind was blank, as I couldn't think of anything that would save me!

Desperate to survive, I took my helmet off and took Lana's extended hand in mine, kissing it gently. I stared at it intently, too scared to look Lana in the eye. I started to babble.

"Lana Beniko, I vow to provide you with eternal happiness and prosperity, as well as to love you till the end. Our love is so powerful and everlasting that we don't need any material objects to prove it. Let our love speak for itself, so that everyone would see its depth, to see and envy us! Thus I give you something much more valuable than any ring, my eternal devotion!" At this point I didn't even know what I was saying or if any of my words made any sense. My delirious, desperate mind was just working entirely on instinct, trying to do anything to stop Lana's wrath.

Out of options I decided to risk looking at Lana, to see if my words moved her heart. My hopes were however immediately crushed as my raising eyes were met with Lana furious gaze, powerful enough to melt glaciers, drilling into me with extreme intensity.

So this is how I die, huh?
