It had been a few days since Kai and Lucario had dealt with the altercation at Professor Rowan's laboratory. Since then, things have been quiet. Kai had time to meet Gible, his second partner in his journey across Sinnoh. Gible was a strong Pokemon considering how young he was. He knew the moves crunch, dragon pulse, mudshot, and dig. While he did plan on using his Pokemon from other regions, he only had Lucario and Gible on him currently.
"Ok I think we have to consider the possibility of me having internal bleeding" Kai complained as he lifted up his shirt to reveal the very large bruise from being hit by one of the soldiers at Rowan's Lab.
"I think it's time we got some medical attention for that Master." Lucario replied as he closed his eyes. A barely visible wave of blue flared across the landscape. After a few seconds, Lucario opened up his eyes again, pointing his paw north of them.
"I sensed many heat signatures of humans in that direction. It is most likely a 10 minute walk until we reach the city" Lucario informed before they both began making the trek there.
Soon, they arrived at the town. The city had a rocky and sandy terrain, looking more like an extremely large construction site than a city. Luckily for Kai, the city was also where the first gym leader was located. Roark, was a gym leader who specialized in the rock element. After seeking medical attention, Kai planned to test Gible's strength and win his first gym badge with his new Pokemon.
After a few minutes of wandering around, the duo eventually found a Pokemon Center. Kai shrugged, stating that "it will have to do for the time being."
After entering the Pokemon center, Kai noticed Nurse Joy standing in front of the receptions desk. Several trainers sat in the lobby, most likely waiting for their Pokemon to be healed. The Pokemon Center was definitely not packed and looked rather empty. Kai returned Lucario to his pokeball since he knew that Lucario would most likely not want to sit through a boring diagnosis. Hell, Kai knew he would barely sit through this himself.
"Hello, I'm Nurse Joy. Welcome to the Pokemon Center. How may I be of assistance today?" Nurse Joy asked with a bright smile, with all Nurse Joys seemingly being in great moods always.
"Sorry, I know you really only treat Pokemon but is there anything you can do to help me with this?" Kai asked as he pulled up his shirt slightly to reveal his ribs, which were bruised and colored black and blue.
Nurse Joy gasped a bit in surprise, before nodding and leading Kai to one of the doctor's offices. Joy advised Kai to take off his shirt so she could assess the wound and treat it. Kai cooperated, taking off his shirt before Nurse Joy examined the large bruise. After a few seconds, Joy had reached a diagnosis.
"From what I could tell, two of your ribs are definitely fractured or broken. If you let me wrap your ribs, it will most likely only take a few weeks before it is fully healed. While recovering, make sure to take it easy and ice it occasionally. You-" Nurse Joy was interrupted as a brown haired girl barged into the room, making Nurse Joy and Kai jump in surprise.
Upon looking at Kai shirtless, the girl immediately blushed, fixated on the trainer's shirtless body. The girl had long brown hair, blue eyes, and stood at about 5'8. She wore a red bandana on the top of her head, a tight red shirt that hugged her figure, and black joggers. Kai's mouth opened slightly, taking notice of how attractive the girl was. However, Kai had a feeling that he had seen the girl from somewhere, but he couldn't quite place it. The girl realized she was staring at Kai and after regathering herself, looked at Nurse Joy.
"Nurse Joy, can you please help my Glaceon? She was hurt really bad!" The girl begged as Nurse Joy looked at Kai, excusing herself to deal with the emergency. Kai nodded as the two women rushed out of the room, with Nurse Joy's Chansey pushed a stretcher with the girl's Glaceon on top.
Putting back on his shirt, Kai walked back to the main waiting room, finding the girl sitting down with her head in her hands.
"Hey I'm sure everything's gonna be alright. Nurse Joy is one of the most skilled and experienced Pokemon experts in the world. I'm sure she has this under control. Kai said, attempting to comfort the girl a little.
The girl looked at Kai, forcing a smile at his reassuring words. "Thank you. I'm sorry for barging into the room but I was freaking out and someone said that Nurse Joy was in there. I'm May by the way." The girl said as she offered her hand for a handshake.
"Wait. Your May Maple? The Pokemon Coordinator who reached Top 4 in Johto's Grand Festival? Kai questioned in a shocked manner, making May giggle.
"Yep, that's me. I'm a little disappointed we didn't win it all but I'm proud of my Pokemon for doing such a great job." May said smiling.
"I think you did terrific. I'm Kai by the way" Kai stated as the coordinator and trainer shook hands.
"Thank you I appreciate it. Well, I already know that your Kai Ledger, the Johto League Tournament winner. Great performance by the way. My dad's the Petalburg City gym leader so naturally, my family is obsessed with battling. They watched the whole tournament and were obsessed with you and your Pokemon. Your Lucario is really something else." May complimented him as she elbowed Kai's arm playfully
"Yeah I would definitely be lost without him. Lucario keeps me grounded and occasionally stops me from doing really stupid things." Kai remarked while May laughed at his statement before frowning.
"I think Glaceon would be better off without me. A good trainer or coordinator wouldn't let their Pokemon get hurt that bad. I should have stopped that battle while I had the chance instead of letting Glaceon battle." May said with tears in her eyes. Kai's smile dropped at this before he put a hand on May's shoulders.
"Look at me May. You are a great Pokemon coordinator. Accidents like this happen and it's ok to make a mistake. Sure, you could have handled the situation better but you made a mistake. You'll learn from it and be better because of it. Glaceon is better with a talented and amazing person like yourself and your better with Glaceon by your side." Kai said reassuring May. May smiled at this, placing her hand on Kai's on her shoulder.
"Thanks Kai, your way too sweet." May said
"Besides, the Princess of Hoenn isn't allowed to get down on herself like that." Kai joked, knowing that May hated the nickname due to several interviews he had seen online.
"Oh my god please don't start calling me that Kai." May laughed, leaning back into her chair while looking at Kai. "Besides, I'm not the only one who's got a nickname from the media now. Isn't that right Chosen One." May said, expecting a reaction. Instead, Kai only smiled brightly at his nickname.
"Actually May, I love my nickname. The Chosen One. Really has a ring to it." Kai joked while May only groaned in response due to being the only one that disliked her given title. It was then that Nurse Joy entered with waiting room with a healthy Glaceon, who ran into May and jumped into her arms. May responded by hugging her, happy that Glaceon was healthy and well.
"She will be a little sore so I wouldn't put her through any battles or workouts for a few days. Other than that she should be good!" Nurse Joy stated, happy that Glaceon was ok. May nodded, before her and Kai left the Pokemon Center. The two chatted for a while before it became dark outside.
"Hey Kai, I know this is really forward and I understand if you don't want to but would you like to travel together? I just thought it would be a good idea since your traveling the region to compete in the League Tournament and I am to compete in the Grand Festival. I would just want to travel with somebody since I travelled alone last year and it wasn't great. Besides, you seem like a really fun and cool person to travel alongside of…" May asked nervously, looking down at the sandy floor while sliding her right foot up and down, conveying her nervousness accidentally.
"May, I would love to travel with you. With the Princess of Hoenn and the Chosen One, our journey will be a blast!" Kai teased as the two of them laughed. May punched his arm playfully before the two of them went to a hotel to get a good rest.
Authors Notes: Chapter 4 everybody! I really wanted to include May in this story as a main character. I wanted to reiterate that ths story will mostly be about the main characters in this story dealing with the organization Chaos rather than their journeys alone. You will see this as the threat of Chaos becomes increasingly greater. Anyways, please review or PM me any suggestions or requests.
