Making Our Christmas Memories
Summary: As Christmas approaches, Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermione, Luna, and Neville gather at the Potters for their gift exchange.
Harry leaned over the banister to see if he heard anything from the kitchen. When he thought the coast was clear, he crept down the stairs heading to the kitchen. He crouched down behind the bar dividing the kitchen and dining area. Slowly, he reached up to snag a biscuit from the platter. He had just picked one up when he heard his mother walk back into the kitchen. She had stepped into the scullery to get something out of the pantry.
She must not have noticed Harry had snagged a biscuit from the platter.
Harry knew better than to try his luck with getting a second biscuit. He turned around and slipped out of the kitchen without Lily noticing he was there.
As he stepped into the downstairs bathroom, the floo flared.
"Hello?"
"In here, Hermione," Lily called.
Hermione was the first to arrive. She usually was when they had Harry's friends at the house for anything. She walked into the kitchen, sitting down a bag full of presents. She had a platter in her hand as she approached the counter.
"Mum sent these," She said, sitting them on the counter. "She made them this morning."
"She didn't need to." Lily took off the cling film. "Chocolate chip scones."
"She asked what the boys would like, and I told her chocolate scones. Mum's are good. But they are not as good as yours. Or Harry's."
Harry walked back into the kitchen as Hermione was talking. They greeted each other with a hug, and Harry took her bag of presents into the family room.
"Good grief, Hermione. Is someone getting a brick?" Harry asked.
"No, I had found some books for everyone I thought they would like."
"Of course you bought books," Harry whispered as he sat the bag beside the tree.
"Your tree is beautiful," Hermione commented.
"Thank you," Lily said. "Did you go with a real tree this year?"
"We did. We went to a tree farm outside of London. We went the morning after I came home. Dad still put up our tree, but it's in the lounge."
The back door opened, and a familiar voice called, "Can I get a hand?"
"Sure," Harry replied.
Before he could move, Neville added, "An actual hand, you git."
Harry stepped out the back door, returning a second later with a bag in his hand. He took the bag to the tree, sitting it beside Hermione's. Neville followed behind Harry. He greeted Lily with a hug.
"Is Luna coming?" Hermione asked.
"Yeah, she's coming," Harry replied. "I had extended the invite when Ginny invited her to sit with us."
"Good because I bought her something as well," Neville said.
James walked into the kitchen, greeting Hermione and Neville.
"How's Luna getting here?" James asked.
"She's going to the Burrow and will floo over with Ron and Ginny. And Mum, Molly is sending over mince pies."
"I told her she didn't need to do that," Lily said from the kitchen.
Almost as if they were summoned, the floo flared. James stepped out of the family room with Harry following behind him. Lily had charmed the floo to remove soot from anyone who flooed over.
Ginny was the first to floo over from the Burrow. Luna flooed over second.
"Hello, Mr. Potter. Hello, Harry," Luna greeted.
"Please call me James. Mr. Potter was my father, and it makes me feel old."
"Okay."
"Mum is the same way. Just call her Lily," Harry advised as Ginny approached her boyfriend.
"Hello there."
"Hi."
Ginny gently kissed Harry on the cheek, feeling awkward with James standing there.
Ron was the last to arrive, tumbling out of the floo with a platter in his hand.
"Mum shoved this at me right as I was getting ready to floo over here," Ron explained.
James enlarged the bags for Ron, Ginny, and Luna, helping Ron and Harry carry them into the family room.
"I told Molly she didn't need to make anything," Lily said as she took the platter from Ron.
"She's been baking a lot, so really, this is doing us a favor," Ron said.
Lily didn't need to ask why. Molly went into the baking or cleaning binges when she was upset. And she didn't need to guess why Molly was upset.
"Alright, I'm off to get pizza. Two pepperonis and two margherita, right?" James asked his wife.
"Yes, and two orders of the cheesy breadsticks. Make sure you get the sauce," Lily directed.
James saluted her and left to collect the food.
"Can we help you with anything, Lily?" Ginny asked.
"No, you girls go on to the family room. I got it. Luna, the bathroom is the second door to the right through that door," Lily said, pointing towards the hall.
"Thank you, Mrs. Potter."
"Mrs. Potter was my mother-in-law, dear. Please call me Lily."
"Okay."
Luna followed Ginny into the family room, where the boys had a game of Mario Kart started. Ron and Neville decided to play against each other first. Harry had taught them how to play, showing them how to work the controllers. Ron came over more often than Neville, and because of that, he had gotten more practice.
Hermione sat on the couch beside Ginny while the boys sat on the floor. Luna sat down on the loveseat, watching the screen in fascination.
"ARG," Ron groaned when Neville sent a shell toward him. In retaliation, he left a banana peel.
"What was that for?" Neville asked.
"The blasted shell!" Ron said.
"I wish I never told you what those do," Harry murmured.
"Are they always like this?" Luna asked, pointing to the boys.
"Yes," Hermione sighed. "Wait until this one goes," She pointed to Harry.
"I WON!" Ron exclaimed as he sailed across the finish line before Neville.
"Whose turn?" Neville held up the controller.
"Mine," Harry said as he traded Neville places.
After Harry started a new game and switched his character, they were off. It was a battle of shells and bombs Harry and Ron sent at each other's characters. It didn't slow either of them done.
Ron thought he was going to win this round. But Harry sent one final shell toward him.
Harry sailed past him crossing the finish line.
"Ha! I won!" Harry all but shouted.
"Who wants a go?" Ron asked, holding up the controller.
"How do I use that?" Ginny pointed to the controller.
Harry patted the spot beside him. "Come here, and I'll show you."
Harry switched from the two-player mode to the one in order to show Ginny how to work the controller. Harry had shown Ron and Neville how to play this way. It helped show them on the screen which button did what. Only Harry reached around Ginny and guided her through using the controller.
"Think you can do it?" Harry whispered.
"I think so," She replied.
Harry switched back to the two-player mode, guiding Ginny through picking her character and her car.
Once she had picked her character, Princess Peach, Harry pressed the start button.
Lily leaned against the doorway, watching. She had to keep from laughing out loud when Ginny passed Harry and left a banana peel. Harry missed it.
"I wasn't born yesterday, Gin," He said.
"You don't care if I do this, do you?" She waited until he had passed her before sending a bomb toward him.
Ron and Neville howled with laughter.
When Ginny sailed over the finish line, Harry followed a second later.
"How?" He asked.
"I had an excellent teacher."
Lily chose that moment to call, "Can we pause the game? Harry, Dad's back with the pizza."
"Does he need me to come out and help him carry everything in?"
"Yes."
"Okay, Ron, Neville, a hand?" He asked.
In response, Ron and Neville applauded.
"Not that kind of a hand you, twats," Harry said as he left the family room.
Ron and Neville followed Harry outside to help bring in the food.
"I feel for Dean and Seamus," Hermione said when the boys left.
"Have they always been that way?" Luna asked.
"Yes," Lily replied.
"Thanks for having me," Luna said.
Lily smiled.
"You're welcome."
OoOoOoOoOoOoO
The table in the kitchen was big enough for the six teenagers to sit around. Lily wouldn't have cared if they wanted to eat in the family room. When Ron and Neville came over, it was in the family room was where they often ate. To their credit, they cleaned up after themselves very well. While the family room had enough places for the six teenagers to sit and eat, Harry thought the kitchen table would be best.
Lily had fixed the food on the divider, setting it out buffet style. There was pizza, breadsticks with dipping sauce, chips, and chicken bites. There were fizzy drinks, Sprite, Coke, and Diet Coke to drink. To save on dishes, Lily bought paper plates, cups, and napkins for them to use.
The girls got their food first. Then the boys went once the girls got what they wanted.
James had brought in chairs from the dining room for him and Lily. They eat at the work table Lily had in the kitchen.
The teens made small talk as they began to eat. Mostly the conversation was about the latest gossip the girls shared.
"What is happening?" Neville whispered. "And since when did Hermione get in on the gossip."
"Welcome to our world," Ron whispered, motioning between Harry and himself.
"I think Ginny influenced her. One of her friends, Kendall, is a gossip queen."
"Well, there's her and Romilda," Ron added.
"True," Harry agreed.
"Are you going to watch the Keeping Up Appearances Christmas special?" Hermione asked, changing the subject.
"We plan on it," Lily said, wiping the grease from her hands from a breadstick.
"What is that?" Luna asked.
"It's a show on the telly," Hermione said. "It's this box that plays pictures but with sound."
"That is an excellent explanation," James said.
"That's how I explained it to you," Lily reminded him.
"What is the show about?" Ginny asked.
"It's about a snobbish housewife determined to climb the social ladder. Despite her family's working-class connections and the constant chagrin of her long-suffering husband," Harry explained.
"I always felt sorry for Richard. Hyacinth reminds me of your sister," James said to Lily.
"I can see why," Lily replied.
"She claims their last name Bucket is pronounced Bouquet," Hermione added. "It's one of Mum's favorite shows. Her favorite is when Hyacinth answers the phone, and it's for a Chinese takeaway."
"No, you cannot have a number 41 with noodles instead of rice. Do I sound like the Green Lotus? What do you mean, sounds more like the Green Dragon?" Harry said in an impersonation of the character's voice.
James laughed from the kitchen.
Lily poured herself more Diet Coke. "I imagine my sister answers her phone like Hyacinth. The Dursley residence, the lady of the house speaking," Lily said, mimicking her sister's voice.
"Why can I see that happening?" Harry asked.
"She probably has a white slim-line push-button digital telephone with automatic last-number redial," James added.
"Well, I know she doesn't describe me, as you know, the one who married a turf accountant. With a large house, swimming pool, and room for a pony!"
James looked at his wife. "We do have a big house."
"I know," Lily murmured.
"What are your plans for Christmas, Luna?" Hermione asked.
"Dad and I are planning on staying home this year. Christmas is hard because it was Mum's favorite holiday. I decorate the Christmas tree with Mum's ornaments. Then I'll make Mum's roast for lunch."
"Are you coming to the Burrow for Christmas dinner?" Ginny asked her.
"I am."
"Neville, what are your plans?" Ginny inquired.
"Uncle Algie and Aunt Enid are coming to stay for Christmas. Gran is looking forward to it. They are supposed to be here tomorrow."
"Tell Algie and Enid we said hello," Lily said.
"I will. We'll exchange some gifts on Christmas Eve. Then we'll open more on Christmas Day. Tessie makes breakfast for us. Then we'll have dinner in the afternoon. But I'm coming to the Burrow for dinner. Gran thinks it would be rude if I didn't."
"Be honest," Ron directed. "You're glad you're coming, right?"
"I love my family. They will be there until Boxing Day." Neville took a drink of his Sprite. "But I am so glad your Mum invited us. Well, me."
"Has Augusta and Molly spent any time together?" Hermione asked.
"That would be like oil and petrol meeting," James noted.
"That bad," Hermione said.
"You never met Augusta, have you?" Ron asked.
Hermione shook her head. "I don't think I have."
The conversation flowed around the table about everyone's plans for Christmas.
"What time should I come over tomorrow?" Ginny inquired.
"Ten should be fine," Harry replied. "I found two movies that should work for your assignment."
For Muggle Studies, Ginny was to watch a Christmas movie and write about it. The experience of watching the movie, what the movie was about, and what her thoughts were about the movie. She asked Harry for help when it was assigned.
When he got home, Harry went searching through their Christmas movie collection. He had picked The Snowman, Ernest Saves Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Christmas Carol. When he went to the shop with Lily, he picked up popcorn and snacks for them to have while watching the movie.
"There are mince pies, scones, and biscuits for dessert if you want one," Lily called as she picked up empty boxes.
"I was going to bring this up on the train, but I forgot. I thought the last Dumbledore's Army meeting went well," Hermione commented.
"I thought it did, too," Ginny agreed.
"Are you still bragging you disarmed me?" Harry asked.
"You weren't paying attention, Potter," Ginny retorted.
"Well, excuse me, but I was distracted by a beautiful girl."
Ron and Neville glanced at each other.
"He doesn't see us?" James asked his wife softly.
"Get used to it, James. He's your son, after all," Lily sighed.
"I don't remember ever flirting with you in front of my parents," James whispered in her ear.
"Harry's bolder than you. He's also my son. Remember, I used to flirt with you in front of Mum and Dad."
James swallowed. "I remember that."
"We're going to play a couple more rounds of Mario Kart before we open presents," Harry said, bringing the trash to the rubbish bin.
"I'll take that out," James said, motioning to the trash. He waved Harry to go on into the family room. "Go on."
"Okay. Thanks, Dad."
As he passed Lily, he leaned over, kissing her cheek. "Thanks, Mum."
"You're welcome."
She watched him go into the family room before she began to clean up. With three teenage boys, there wasn't a lot of leftovers. There was enough for Harry and Ginny to have for lunch tomorrow.
"I told you we needed two of each," Lily said when James returned to the kitchen.
"I know, it takes two when we just have Ron and Neville."
James headed to the family room to watch the show that was Ron and Harry playing Mario Kart.
He had walked in just as Ron asked, "Ready to lose, Potter?"
"You're on Weasley."
Lily sighed as she cleaned up the kitchen. She knew their house would be where Harry's friends would want to hang out. Sure, it was only Ron and Neville most of the time, but Lily didn't care. Now that Harry and Ginny were dating, Ginny would be over as much as the boys. Lily didn't mind it all.
She wouldn't change it for the world.
OoOoOoOoOoOoO
When it was time to hand out presents, the girls went first. Hermione volunteered to go first, picking up her bag.
"I know we're exchanging presents at home, but I thought I'd bring one of yours here," Hermione explained as she handed Ron a present.
"Thank you, Mione," He murmured.
Ginny was next. Hermione handed her a perfectly wrapped box.
"Thank you."
Hermione pulled out the next present, checking the tag.
"Lily, this is a little something from Mum." Hermione reached down in the back for another present marked for Lily. "And this is from me."
"You didn't need to get me anything, and you can tell Jane the same," Lily said as she took the present.
The next present in Hermione's bag went to Harry.
"How much do you want to bet it's a book," Ginny whispered in his ear after he took the present.
"I have no doubt."
"James," Hermione called. "This is for you."
"You really didn't need to get us anything, Hermione."
Neville's present was the last in Hermione's bag. "I hope you like it."
"So, do we open what we have now? Or do we hand out everything?" Ron asked.
"Hermione wouldn't have anything open right now if we did that. Let's hand out everything," Harry said.
"I agree. Who's next?" Hermione asked.
"I'll go," Ginny said, "Can you hand me my bag?" She asked Harry.
He handed her the bag she had brought her presents in. She started handing out the presents. The first presents were James and Lily's.
"Ginny, you didn't need to get us anything," Lily said as she took both presents.
"I know, I wanted to."
She reached into the bag, checking the tag. "Harry, hand this to Neville, please."
Harry took the present, handing it to Neville.
"Hermione," Ginny said as she read the tag on the next present. She handed it to Hermione.
Picking up the next one, she handed it to Luna. "I saw it, and it reminded me of you."
"Thanks, Ginny."
"You're welcome." She pulled out the next present. "Brother." She tossed it to Ron.
"I thought we were leaving our presents to each other at home?" Ron inquired.
"I picked up a small something when I went to Diagon Alley with Mum," Ginny explained. "Someone told me you could use it."
Ron looked at Neville and Harry. They pointed at each other, saying it was the other's idea.
"You both told me the same thing," Ginny said as she pulled out the last two presents. "Here, Neville."
"Thanks, Ginny."
"You're welcome. Harry, here's yours."
"I have one of yours in my bag."
Luna went next. Ginny had helped her pick out things for everyone when they went shopping. Luna had joined Molly and Ginny when they went to Diagon Alley.
"Here is a present for both you and James. It's a year's subscription to The Quibbler."
"I've been reading it at work. It's really interesting," James commented.
"Thank you, Luna," Lily said.
"You're welcome."
Luna handed Ron and Hermione their presents next.
"I hope you like it," She said.
"Thank you, Luna," Hermione murmured.
"Thanks."
Luna handed Neville his present next. He took it, nodding to her.
"Thank you, Luna."
The last two presents in Luna's bag were for Harry and Ginny. She pulled them both out, handing them to Harry and Ginny.
"I had some help with yours," Luna whispered to Ginny, glancing at Harry.
"Thanks, Luna," Harry said, taking the present from her, ignoring the look on his girlfriend's face.
"Alright, the girls are done. Who's going first?" Ron asked.
Harry, Ron, and Neville looked at each other. Then slowly, they held out their hand. Silently, they began a game of rock, scissors, or paper.
To the amusement of everyone, Neville's paper covered both Harry and Ron's rocks.
"Arg," Ron growled when he realized he would have to go against Harry. Harry never lost rock, scissors, or paper.
"I feel for Dean and Seamus," Hermione whispered. "They have to deal with these three."
"You deal with two of them. All the time," Ginny reminded her.
Harry and Ron played one final round of rock, scissors, or paper. Harry, as predicted, won.
"I'll go," Ron sighed.
Opening the bag, Ron reached inside for the first present. He pulled out a small box with a red bow. He handed it to Hermione without looking at the tag.
"I hope you like it," He said.
"This is one of your presents for me?" She asked.
"It is." Ron pulled out another small box. This time he checked the tag. "Sister." He tossed the box at Ginny. Harry caught it for her, handing it to her.
"Thanks, Ronald," Ginny said. She pecked Harry on the cheek. "Thank you, baby."
"You're welcome."
Ron pulled out the next box, this one slightly bigger than the previous two. "Luna."
"Thanks, Ron."
Pulling out two gift bags, he handed them to Lily. "One's for you, and the other is for James."
"You didn't have to get us anything, Ron," James said.
Ron pulled out the last two presents from his bag. He only checked the tag on one before tossing them to Harry and Neville.
"There's another present from Harry and me for you," Ron explained to Neville as he returned to his seat.
"Thanks," Neville said.
"Okay, I'm last."
Harry pulled the bag close to him. Opening the bag, he reached inside. The first present on top went to Ginny.
"This is one of yours from me," Harry said, handing her the neatly wrapped box.
"Thank you, love."
Harry reached in for the next present. "Neville, hand this one to Luna," he said, double-checking the tag.
"Thank you, Harry," Luna murmured as she took the small box from Neville.
"This one goes to Hermione," Harry read the tag, handing it to Neville to hand to Ron.
"Thank you," Hermione took the present from Ron, adding it to her pile.
"Ron, catch," Harry directed, holding up his present.
Ron caught it with ease. "Thanks, Mate."
"One of these is from Ron and me. The other is from me," Harry said, handing Neville the last of his presents.
"Thanks, Harry."
"Okay, everyone has something to open now, right?" Hermione asked.
Everyone nodded.
"Alright, open."
Everyone started opening their presents. Hermione opened the present from Ron first, noticing her present to him was the first one he was opening.
"Hermione, how?" Ron asked, holding up a signed Keeper's jersey from the Chudley Cannons.
"I borrowed Harry's Quidditch catalog. I saw it in there," She explained. She opened the box in her hand. She gasped.
"Do you like it?" Ron asked.
"Ronald," Hermione breathed. "It's beautiful."
Inside the box was a ring. The ring had a long stem rose on it.
"I remember you saying roses were your favorite flower. I saw that ring in one of Lily's catalogs Harry borrowed. I owl ordered it and hoped it came in on time."
"I love it, thank you."
The ring was part of a three-piece jewelry set. Ron was saving the matching necklace and earrings for their Christmases with their families.
Ginny decided to open Harry's present first. She carefully unwrapped the box, pulling off the paper. Then she carefully opened the box. Inside were two frames. One had a picture of Harry in his Quidditch uniform, his broom over his shoulder. The other one was of both of them. Harry leaned in to kiss her while she looked at whoever it was taking the picture.
"Who took this?" Ginny asked.
"Colin," Harry replied. "He gave me an envelope a month ago full of pictures."
"He gave me some, too," Ginny chuckled. "I can put these on my nightstand at home and Hogwarts."
"I'm glad you like them. We can sort through our piles and copy any picture the other doesn't have," Harry suggested.
"We can."
Harry picked up the present Ginny had given him. Carefully, he unwrapped the packaging.
"I saw it when Mum and I went to Diagon Alley. It made me think of you."
Harry opened the box. Inside was a Snitch plushie. Under it was a book.
"Advance Defense: Professional's Guide to Defensive Spells."
"I saw it in the bookshop. I thought it could be useful for the Defense club too."
"Thanks, Gin."
Harry leaned over, kissing Ginny on the lips. He ignored the fact his parents were in the room.
"You're welcome," she breathed when they parted.
Ginny moved the presents from Harry out of the way. She paused when she caught sight of the picture of Harry and her. She noticed something in that picture.
They were happy.
She was happy.
But most importantly, Harry was happy.
She just hoped that he stayed that way.
OoOoOoOoOoOoO
James took out the final bag of rubbish to the bins. He sighed as he walked back into the house. Lily had put a new bag in the rubbish bin and was washing the last of the dishes.
"Well, that was fun, don't you think?"
"It was," Lily agreed.
James headed on into the family room. Harry was putting the games back into the cabinet and turning off the gaming system.
"What time is Ginny coming over tomorrow?"
"Ten," Harry replied. "I thought we would start with How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
"How many does she need to watch?"
"Just one. The rest are just because we can."
James nodded.
"Where's the stuff you got?" He asked.
"On the couch."
James looked at the couch where Harry and Ginny had sat. Harry got a couple of books, the plush Snitch, and candy.
"I think your friends know you well," James commented.
Ginny wasn't the only one who got Harry a defense book. Hermione got him one on the History of Defense. It was about how wizards and witches defended themselves in the past. Before the defense spells and charms advanced.
Ron and Neville both had gotten Harry a joke and prank book.
"There's nothing harmless in there," Ron assured Lily.
"Uh-huh," She said. She looked at her husband.
"I didn't do anything," James said.
James picked up a book Hermione had gotten Harry, Ron, and Neville.
"What is this?" James asked.
"OWLs prep."
"So, you and Ron were right," James said. He had heard a conversation between Harry and Ron the night before over the mirrors. Ron had guessed one of Hermione's presents to them was a book on OWLs.
"She even got Neville one."
"It might come in handy. But it's a little early to prep for OWLs. They're in June."
"Tell Hermione that. Ron did mention she has a revision schedule ready to go."
James chuckled. "You don't need to start revising after Christmas break. Start about March, and you should be fine."
Harry nodded.
"All your Mum and I ask is that."
"I try my best. And if I fail?" Harry asked.
"You have more of your mother in you than you realize," James said, smiling softly.
Harry nodded again.
He gathered up his stuff to take up to his room. Once he was gone, James headed back into the kitchen.
"I heard what you told Harry. You're right."
James stopped. "Did I just hear Lily Potter say I was right?" He chuckled.
"You are right from time to time," She said.
James walked up behind his wife, pulling her close. He leaned and kissed her cheek.
"Do you know how lucky we are?" He whispered.
"I do."
"I don't think we could have asked for a better son."
"I agree," Lily murmured.
James kissed Lily's cheek before he headed towards his office. He unlocked the door, stepped in, and approached the desk. Opening the top drawer, he reached inside and pulled out a ring box, opening it to look at the beautiful ring he had got for Lily.
Iris, Lily's mother, had a ring just like this one. It was an emerald ring with a gold band. Lily wanted that ring when her mother was no longer living. Unfortunately, their house burned down. There was a picture of Iris wearing the ring, and it showed the ring clearly. James had searched for this ring for years.
Harry found it in the jewelry store in Hogsmeade with Ron. He immediately called James, who asked him to show him the ring. Upon seeing it, James knew this was it.
He asked Harry to get it, requesting they deduct the cost from their Gringotts account.
Lily was going to be surprised.
This was looking to be a great Christmas.
OoOoOoOoOoOoO
Harry laid awake the night before Christmas Eve. Sighing, he glanced over to check the time on the alarm clock. It was half past three in the morning. Turning over to face the wall, Harry sighed again.
He knew why he couldn't sleep.
Tomorrow he would be celebrating his and Ginny's first Christmas together. Their first holiday together.
He was nervous about her presents. Would she like what he had gotten her?
She loved the pictures he had given her during their friends' Christmas get-together. But what about everything else?
He sighed again as he turned to lie on his back.
Of the presents he was giving Ginny, the one he was most excited about giving her was the communication mirror. He looked forward to having a way to talk to her when they were apart. The bonus of the communication mirror was not only could he talk to her, but he could see her.
Everything else he had gotten her, he just hoped she liked them.
Sighing again, he turned onto his left side. He looked over at his nightstand. He wondered if there were pictures of Ginny in that stack of pictures Colin had given him. If there was, he could pick one and frame it, put it on his nightstand.
Ron might find it awkward to have a picture of his sister in the dorm. But then, Ron has a picture of Hermione on his nightstand. The picture was of the two of them taken when they first got together. Jane had sent two copies to Hermione for her birthday.
Harry knew one of Ron's presents from Hermione was a picture of just her. She mentioned she wanted him to have a picture of only her to set on his nightstand.
How and when she had a picture made, Harry didn't know. But he knew who.
"Are you awake?"
Harry looked at the door to find James leaning against the door.
"I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep," Harry explained.
James nodded.
"Go back to sleep. It's only four in the morning."
"I'll try too," Harry said, turning over on his other side.
When James was gone, Harry sighed once more. He closed his eyes, letting sleep reclaim him. As he slept, he dreamed of the Christmas he and Ginny would have together.
This Christmas would be one to remember.
