Letter to Yue,

A lot has happened since I last wrote, and we have some great news. We finally found Aang an earthbending teacher! Get this- at at an earthbending rumble! It was amazing, there were fighters from all over and she just sliced them out! It was so cool to watch them fight! Man, I wish you could've seen it.

There was that feeling again. Like all of his excitment vanished in that instant.

He kept on in spite of it,

Anyways, this is good news for us. His training hasn't started yet, but I'm sure he'll make real progress in no time. His teacher, Toph, she can't see. Not how we do with our eyes anyways, she does it with earthbending. There's gotta be some cool strategies that come with that.

There was something missing to it, he knew. It was insincere, dancing around what he needed to say. He put down his work and started pacing back and forth.

This isn't fair. What've I been doing these past few days? Playing detective, having fun? All while Yue's time got cut short?

"Can I ask what you're doing?"

"Ahh!" Sokka dropped the brush out of his hand and instinctively went to shield the letter with his arms.

"Oh, uh hey Toph. Katara and Aang normally don't get up this late. How'd you find me up here anyways?"

"I can sense when your moving. With my feet, remember? You got up a while ago, and I didn't think you came back."

"Oh, right. Still getting used to that."

"So what are you doing over here?"

"I'm writing something, but it's personal. I'd rather not talk about it."

"Don't worry, that's not my business. You don't need to cover it either, I can't see what you wrote."

He took his arms off. They were stained from the ink, but at least the letter was still readable.

"I was just asking because we'll be traveling tomorrow, right? Are you just planning to sleep in?"

"No, I'll be fine. I'll go back in a little while."

Toph yawned and turned to go, "Suit yourself. I can't say I wouldn't do the same." She walked back to where Appa was, leaving Sokka alone with his thoughts again.

He didn't feel like sleeping anytime soon. The writing wasn't really helping anymore. What more did he even have to say?

He finished the letter he was working on,

I guess, it's been kind of fun the past few days around here. It's not as stressful right now. I'll write to again soon,

Sokka

Soon came sooner than he thought. As he started walking back to camp, the words started echoing in his mind. He needed to get them out. At the bottom of the page, and anywhere else it could fit really, he scrawled another letter.

Letter to Yue,

I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry

I'm sorry I'm sorry

I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry

I'm sorry

I'm sorry I'm sorry

You deserved better than me.

Worst friend ever, Sokka

Once his thoughts quieted, he walked back to his sleeping bag. He searched for the second most recent letter he'd written. With some stones he weighed them down again face up at the sky. The last thing he saw as he closed his eyes, was the waxing moon, at a distance of one lifetime away.
