Terrible Timing of Truthfulness

It has been quite a while since I have written anything, over four years in fact, well, wrote anything with the intention of publishing, this is going to be my attempted return to fanfiction. I hope that my return is better than my previous attempts at this. This is going to be a Kim Possible fanfic, it won't showcase Kim in the best of light, so if you are a fan of Kim and don't like anything bad said about her, this is your cue to stop reading, to anyone that might be curious on where this will go, Read and Review.

Chapter 1: Anger and Apology.

The gym at Middleton high school is filled with half-built float dedicated to the Middleton pickle and their proud pickle heritage as Mr. Barkin speaks, "Okay people, listen up! In a frenzied outpouring of community pride. This weekend, we celebrate Middleton Days, a salute to giants of local industries, from the Space Center to the world-famous Middleton Pickleworks." He stops his speech after spotting Ron standing proudly in a pickle costume and he marches over to him, "Stoppable, Explanation! Now!"

Ron smiles proudly and begins to explain, "I'm Kosher Deli, the Pickleworks' beloved mascot." Rufus pops up on his shoulder dressed in a smaller pickle costume, "And this Gherkin."

The student around them look at Ron and Rufus blankly and Mr. Barkin frowns, "Mocking our proud Pickled heritage, are we?" He accuses Ron, not believing Ron to be capable of taking anything remotely serious.

Ron holds up a hand in defense as he speaks, "Mock the Pickle? Never Mr. B"

Mr. Barkin, still mistrustful of Ron and his intentions, "I'm keeping an eye on you cucumber boy." He turns back to the other students, "Alright, float builders, let's get busy." He orders and walks away.

"Isn't that hot?" Kim asks, as she appears from behind Ron, having approached silently, wearing a red shirt and cargo pants, with a bit of a mixture of a smile and a smirk on her face as she inquires Ron.

Ron smiles proudly, Rufus still on his arm, "Suffering is my salute to Middleton KP." He spots Tara walking by with her hand holding Josh's arm, "Oh." His face having morphed into a concerned frown.

"What's the big?" Kim asks as she begins to turn to look toward what made Ron let out that noise.

Ron, thinking quickly, "Nothing, uh Kim, there is something in my eye! Ow!" While he is doing that, he absent-mindedly puts one of his fingers in his eye.

Kim looks just a touch annoyed, beneath the confusion that she feels, "It's your finger Ron."

Ron laughs nervously, "Oh. Ha-ha, how'd that get there?" He asks, despite knowing that he put it there. However, as he said this Bonnie walks over with a fake gasp of surprise, having already known.

"Josh Mankey has a fresh crush, and her name isn't Kim Possible." She drops the fake shock/surprise look for a smug one as she looks at Kim, waiting and hoping for the hurt feelings.

"Ah! Bonnie!" Ron reacts, having now done that thing to distract Kim to spare her feelings for nothing.

"Ron, really, it's no big." She says, her face completely nonchalant, "Josh Mankey was so last semester."

"Huh?" "What?" Ron and Bonnie both say respectively, Ron from confusion, and Bonnie from surprise.

"We grew apart." Kim says with a shrug, crossing her arms and then changing to a smile toward Bonnie, "It was time to move on. So not the drama."

"So, in denial." Bonnie says as she makes a talk to the hand motion before walking off, steamed at the fact that once again, her attempts to get one over on Kim Possible failed and she thinks to herself, 'What does it take for something to get the better of that girl.'

Ron smiles, placing a hand on Kim's shoulder, "Way to maintain the Kimposure KP, it's brave the way you mask your mankey pain."

Kim takes Ron hand off her shoulder, "Seriously, I'm over Josh, thought you'd be the bummed one."

Ron looks confused at her statement, "Huh? Me? Why?" He asks as he wonders what she could possibly mean.

Kim looks surprise, "Tara. I mean she used to like you; you mean you never noticed?" She says while crossing her arms, looking a mixture of skeptical and annoyed. Suddenly the Kimmunciator goes over and Kim answers, "What's the sitch Wade?"

"Just heard that Tara and Mankey are dating, how is Ron taking it?" He asks inquiring, reveling that he knew.

Ron reacts after getting over the surprising revel, "Wade knew too, but then." He feels anger begin to bubble up, "You told Wade, but you didn't tell me." He begins to realize, "You didn't want to tell me, didn't you? You did not want me to know. You only told me now that Tara is dating someone else and I cannot do anything about it. Why did you do it Kim, why?" He asks, reveling his anger is serious as he called her Kim instead of KP

Kim is surprised and speechless, as she hadn't anticipated Ron's reaction to this, "Ron, I..." She tries to come up with a reason, only to realize that she does not have a good excuse, not even one that she can believe herself, let alone convince Ron that it is the truth.

Ron continues on, his anger building, not even listening to Kim's attempted at forming an excuse, "I will tell you why, it is because you didn't want me to know, you didn't want to take the chance of me having a pretty girlfriend. You did not want to have to share your best friend with anyone. You always have to be in control, don't you? I realize that it is your nature, you have a type A personality and I have forgiven and let go of many things in the past and I realize that, at times, when I am a little successful, I tend to get a bit big-headed about it. So why? What would have been so bad about me having a sweet girl like Tara as my girlfriend?" He asks, he is trying to hold his anger in to prevent himself from making a scene and yelling at Kim right in front of the gym.

Kim finally regains her voice and comes up with a possible answer, "It is for her sake that I didn't tell you, with you going on missions all the time, not knowing if you will be coming back, like you said, Tara is a sweet girl, she doesn't deserve to be put through something like that constantly. So yeah, I didn't tell you, but I did it for all the right reasons." She says, huffing in self-righteousness, convince of that being true, however, she doesn't even believe it herself, because she doesn't believe that the day will come when she fails to save Ron should he get into trouble, where she fails to get them both back home.

Ron looks at her, "So as long as I go on missions with you, I can't have a girlfriend at all, but you can have any boyfriend that you want, because you are sure that you are at least coming back, well guess what, I am done, find yourself a new sidekick then." With that, he begins to stomp off, "I quit." He sighs and takes a breath, and he goes to calm down, Rufus riding on his shoulder, he looks at his little buddy and he asks, "So, any idea what I should do now Rufus?"

Rufus speaks up in his chatter, "hnk Apologize."

Ron feels complete disbelief at what Rufus just said, "Apologize, to Kim? Are you kidding?"

Rufus shakes his head, "No…hnk Tara."

Ron considers Rufus's words and he smiles, "You know buddy, at times, you are a lot smarter than I am, you are right, Tara does deserve an apology, for me not at least recognizing the feelings that she had for me, if nothing else." He begins to walk over toward Tara and Josh when he realizes that he is still in a pickle suit, "Oh yeah, better get out of this." He takes the pickle off and after that, he goes over to Tara, "Hey Tara, Hey Josh."

Josh looks up, "Hey Ron, we heard about that little spat with Kim, and well, I mean."

Tara speaks up, able to speak for herself, "We are sorry that you and Kim are fighting, I mean, we don't even know for sure what it is about, you know how rumors go."

Ron chuckles awkwardly, "Yeah, uhh, that is actually why I came over here. I came to apologize to you Tara. Kim just told me that you used to like me before you started going out with Josh here. I just, well, you are such a beautiful girl and a sweetheart, never figured a girl like you could be into a guy like me. So yeah, I just wanted to say that I am sorry for that. You deserve that much." He says and then he starts to walk off, his shoulders slumped sadly.

Tara speaks up, in confusion, "Wait, what do you mean Kim just told you. I asked Kim to try to help me set us up, like four months ago. You mean she never did try anything like that?" She asks, now feeling more confused than ever.

Kim comes over, "Ron, Drakken is on the move, let's go." She says, she is in her mission clothes and in mission mode now

Ron looks annoyed before shrugging, "And I care why exactly? You are a big girl; you can stop him yourself." He says, not letting Kim command him like before

Kim looks at him, "Can we put aside this petty high school fight? I need you to come with me and back me up, you see, this is why I never told you, you can't do what you have to do if you have a girlfriend, now quit being a baby and come on." She says, crossing her arms in annoyance.

Tara looks at her, anger boiled up inside of her as she slaps Kim's face, "You told me that you talked to him. You told me that he said that he wasn't interested in me that way. You told me that he didn't know how to let me down easily, and all this time, the whole thing, was a lie. I asked you to talk to him for me, I asked you to set us up. You didn't even do that, and you don't even have the decency to tell either one of us why? Is it just because it didn't suit you, that it didn't fit into your plans?"

Kim looks at Tara, having came up with an excuse for Tara that would work better than her excuse for Ron, "It never would have lasted, I mean you are Bonnie's best friend, do you honestly think Bonnie would have let you gone out with Ron and if you had put some boy over your best friend, then you'd have been a poor choice for a girlfriend."

"Some Boy?!" Ron and Tara both asks in disbelief that Kim would refer to Ron as just some boy rather than her best friend or anything else.

Ron looks at Kim, "Go on Kim, go stop Drakken, because right now, I don't want to see your face at all. GO!" He yells out, clinching his fist until the knuckles turn white.

Kim leaves and walks off, thinking to herself, 'I will buy Ron some Bueno Nachos later and then he will forget all about this. After all, he needs me.' She thinks to herself, so sure that Ron needs her as his best friend and that once again, she knows what is best for Ron.

Josh looks at Tara and Ron, "So should I leave you two alone to talk?" He asks, completely trusting both Ron and Tara not to do anything.

"No" They both tell Josh at the same time and they look at each other before looking back at Josh.

Ron speaks up first, "I still need some time to cool down, process all this and get my head on straight."

Tara looks at Josh, she is unsure on what to say or think, "I need some time to think and well, you and me need to talk first Josh, you know, once I am sure." She says, truthfully, she had never gotten fully over Ron, she was hoping that by dating Josh, she would.

Ron and Tara walk off, each taking separate exit outside of the gym and the gym lights go off, leaving Josh in the dark, unsure of what is to come.

End of Chapter 1:

Review and tell me what you think. What can I do to make this better? Should Ron forgive Kim? Should Josh and Tara break up? Should Ron and Tara be a couple, or are there other girls better for Ron such as Monique?
