Hey, everybody and welcome to my second ever story! If you haven't read my other one (Dark Chaos), give it a shot. It's not done yet but I update very often. Ok, back to this story. This story is centered around Ash and his friends. Not sure yet if I'm going to be shipping him with somebody so let me know if you would like to see this and with who. This will also be a Pokemon AU, so while a lot of things about the anime will remain the same, there will be some changes. For example, Pokemon will be allowed to know more than four moves. I've decided to make the character ages older than what they are perceived as. It's honestly just a preference for me having everybody older. Also, if you have any suggestions or things you want to see in the story, let me know! I've attached some of the character ages below. I only put some of the main characters that are going to be in the story but I will also be updating it as the story progresses. Anyways, here's the first chapter and enjoy!
Character Ages:
Ash- 18
Serena- 18
Bonnie- 9
Clemont- 20
May- 18
Dawn-17
Brock- 24
Misty- 20
Professor Oak- 50
Delia Ketchum- 42
"I'm impressed, Ash. You've pushed me to my limits. Unfortunately, this battle ends here."
Alain pressed his mega bracelet, which glowed brightly. Charizard's mega stone glowed as well, covering Charizard's body completely. Charizard roared loudly as the gold glow continued to expand and cover the Pokemon. After a few seconds, the glow exploded, exposing Alain's Ace Pokemon. Charizard was mega evolved now, appearing black and blue with blue flames coming from its mouth and tail.
Ash cursed mentally, fearing this powerful Pokemon. The Kanto trainer had no problem admitting his fear. He had witnessed first-hand how dominant this Pokemon was. Charizard had defeated several mega evolved Pokemon in a row, battled with the likes of legendary Pokemon, and defeated an elite four member. Alain and Charizard were definitely not pushovers.
While he was scared, Ash was also confident as he looked in front of him to the battlefield. Greninja was facing Charizard but was looking backwards towards his trainer confidently. It was clear either one of them was going to back down. Especially, since this was the closest they had ever been to winning their first tournament. The only thing that stood in their way was one more Pokemon.
Greninja nodded towards Ash, before staring down Charizard, ready to battle once again. The two had been fighting each other for several minutes, both exhausted and hurt greatly. They refused to give in to each other, both extremely determined to win this battle. Without Greninja speaking, Ash knew right away what he was trying to signal. It was time to even the battle once again.
Suddenly, Ash was surrounded by a barrier of water, which extended towards the air about twenty feet above the black-haired teenager. The audience gasped in excitement and surprise, having never seen a Greninja mega evolve (I know that it's not a mega evolution, but everyone perceives it as just that instead of the Bond Phenomenon).
Greninja was covered with the same torrent of water, covering the Kalos starter Pokemon. The only thing that was visible through the water was a red glow that appeared. After a few seconds, the water vanished, leaving Greninja with a near appearance.
Ash's Pokemon now had a small red spike, which ran to the back of its head. It also wore a large water shuriken on its back. It was a bright blue color, which impressed the audience due to its beauty.
The two trainers had serious expressions, staring at each other in anticipation and nervousness. Both their journeys had all led down to this moment.
"I'm scared, Clemont. This is getting really close." The blond-haired child said, clutching her Dedenne on her lap.
"Don't worry Bonnie. Ash will pull through. I know it. Right Serena?" Clemont asked, looking to the blond-haired girl to his right.
Serena had her hands clasped together nervously, forcing herself to watch the nailbiter in front of her. She couldn't recall the last time she was so nervous watching one of Ash's battles. Probably never, if she was being honest. Clemont's question snapped her out of her trance, making her shake her head slightly to wake herself up.
"You're absolutely right. Ash has got this!" Serena stated confidently, leaning forward from her seat.
Professor Oak and Delia sat in a booth near the top of the stadium. The two of them had traveled from Pallet Town to Kalos when they heard Ash had reached the Finals.
It was ultimately Professor Oak's idea to watch the battle live. The respected elder had the idea to ask Delia if she would like to come, since it was her son battling. Delia agreed instantly, seeing it as a better alternative than watching it from another region.
Professor Oak was feeling a series of emotions while watching the battle. Excitement, nervousness, and happiness were just a few from the list. Everyone in the stadium was excited. It was a battle for the ages in Kalos. These two trainers battling against each other with such grit was truly a spectacle for the audience. It was rare for such experienced battlers with unique Pokemon to clash together, with such a close gap of skill between them.
More than anything, the Pokemon Researcher was happy. Not because he was witnessing such a terrific battle. Professor Oak was happy because of who was participating in the battle. Ash Ketchum. The older man had the privilege of giving out Ash's first Pokemon, along with helping to mentor him at a young age. Ash had come such a long way since he had started his journey, making it even more satisfying to see where he was now.
Also, Oak was not unaware of Ash's accomplishments. While some of his accomplishments as trainer were very impressive, such as defeating several legendaries and the entirety of the battle frontier, there was more to the teenager. It seemed like the world was obsessed with making trouble and problems follow him. However, the boy constantly helped others, saving people and regions alike from catastrophes. Professor Oak would always be proud and happy for the Pallet Town trainer. This was just a moment that exemplified that.
"How are you feeling Delia? You should be extremely proud of your son. I know I am." Professor Oak said happily, smiling at the trainer below them.
"Thank you, Samuel. Of course, I am. Oh my little Ashy." Delia responded while taking pictures from her phone. The older man sweat dropped at her nickname for her son, turning back to watch the battle.
The stadium seemed to be exploding with shouts and cheers. The place was truly electric. The majority of the audience was standing up from their seats, cheering loudly. This would be a battle that the Kalos Region wouldn't forget anytime soon.
Ash and Greninja stared down Alain and Charizard, neither Pokemon moving. After a moment, it was Alain who ordered his Pokemon first.
"Charizard, use Dragon Claw!" Alain screamed out, stretching his arm forward to signal his attack.
"Greninja, counter it with Water Shuriken!" Ash ordered his Greninja, who complied.
Charizard flew low to the ground, his claw glowing purple due to the Dragon Claw. Charizard roared loudly as he was hit by a flying Water Shuriken, making the Dragon type Pokemon roar in pain. However, the feared Pokemon didn't stop in its attack. It rushed past Greninja, flying past him as he struck the water type in the chest with Dragon Claw. Greninja grunted in pain, kneeling on the floor.
Ash fell onto one knee as well, gripping his chest with one hand. The crowd got significantly quieter, confused at what was going on. It was only Clemont, Bonnie, and Serena that had good idea of what was going on.
"Damn it, Ash! He's going to get hurt!" Serena shouted, feeling helpless as she saw one of her best friends in pain. It was Clemont who tried to calm her down.
"It's ok, Serena. Ash will be alright. We just have to trust him." Clemont commented.
Bonnie placed her hand on Serena's, wanting to comfort the older girl. Serena smiled at her actions, nodding at the two of them before watching the battle.
"Thunder Punch!" Alain said, realizing that Ash and Greninja were both defenseless.
Ash heard Alain, slightly panicking. With a bit of difficulty, the black-haired teenager forced himself up from his knee, now standing as Charizard moved at a fast pace towards Greninja. "Damn, he's too close to dodge." Ash thought in his head, knowing it would be impossible. The mega evolved Charizard would also be too powerful to stop in his tracks. He would be forced to counter the Thunder Punch.
"Greninja, use Cut nonstop!" Ash yelled loudly.
Greninja nodded, the bond between the two helping both of them understand each other and communicate better. It was like the two of them were one being. Greninja formed a small white dagger in his hand, using it to block and strike his opponent.
Charizard's fist was covered in electricity, swinging at Greninja who was able to block some of the strikes as well as land a couple of his own. Both Pokemon were exchanging attacks quickly. They were also both being hit, grunting in pain as the strikes landed. However, it was Greninja who was able to land more strikes with Cut, while also dodging more attacks than Charizard was able to. This was due to Greninja's faster speed than the black scaled Charizard.
After a minute of the two Pokemon trading Cuts and Thunder Punches, the two attacks hit each other, pushing both of them back several feet. A small explosion was created from the force of the attacks colliding. When the smoke cleared, both Pokemon were panting heavily and hurt badly. It was their sheer strength and determination that forced them to keep going.
Ash was confident in their ability to win, but also nervous due to how close the battle was. Greninja was in bad shape, crouching down while breathing heavily. Charizard, however, wasn't in much better condition. Alain's Pokemon was standing upright, but his knee was shaking slightly. Ash knew that he would have to continue the battle and end it quickly for him to have a chance.
"Use Double Team into Water Shuriken!"
Alain realized that this would be bad, with multiple copies appearing and sending out their own Water Shuriken.
"Fly up and use Flamethrower across the entire field. Wipe out all of them!"
About ten copies of Greninja appeared out of nowhere, surrounding the black Charizard. They each prepared a Water Shuriken, about to throw the attack. Charizard growled, with fire coming out of its nostrils as the Pokemon flew up a couple of feet.
Charizard fired its Flamethrower, destroying every single Greninja before they could fire their attack. Alain and Charizard grew confused, though, since there was no Greninja on the battlefield.
Alain's eyes widened in panic once he saw Greninja. "Watch out Charizard!" Alain screamed out. It was too late, though, as Charizard was sent crushing into the rocky terrain from Greninja's strike. The ninja like Pokemon had appeared above Charizard somehow while remaining unseen.
Greninja had then used Night Slash on him, sending him flying back to the ground. The crowd rumbled in cheers, while a large number were also confused at how Greninja attacked Charizard without being ordered to.
It was quite simple. Due to the bond phenomena, Ash was able to communicate with Greninja telepathically. Ash knew that this action would catch Alain and Charizard off guard, since they had been battling vocally this whole time. Fortunately, the Kanto trainer was right.
Greninja landed gracefully, also knowing that the battle was not over. Charizard forced himself up once again, bruises littering both Pokemon.
Alain gritted his teeth tightly, frustration showing clearly. "Flamethrower straight into him!"
"Water Pulse!" Ash countered, with Greninja sending out his stream of water to counter the fire attack.
Both Pokemon sent out their attacks, which met in the middle of the field powerfully. It was a stalemate, with neither attack pushing the other back. While the water type move should have naturally been stronger, it just showed how incredible Alain's starter was. A few seconds later, the collision of attacks exploded, cutting off the stalemate. Both Pokemon tumbled backwards, rolling across the floor forcefully.
Once again, Ash clutched his side in pain, gritting his teeth with his head lowered. While the teenager didn't fall this time, his vision became blurry due to the pain. Ash didn't know how much more of this he could take. However, he refused to let down Greninja.
"Thunder Punch, Charizard!" Alain yelled to the mega evolved Pokemon.
Charizard once again flew towards Greninja, having recovered faster than the water type. Ash's eyes widened, realizing that Charizard was approaching at an incredibly rapid speed.
"Dodge Greninja!" Ash commanded, hoping that he would be able to avoid the super effective move.
Greninja rolled to the left, moving slightly out of the way of the attack. This proved to be futile, though, since Charizard was somehow able to rotate his body at the last second to hit the Pokemon. The crowd gasped, completely impressed at Charizard's skills. Greninja flew backwards into the wall, making a giant dent in the stone material. After a second, Greninja slid off of it, laying onto the floor.
Greninja looked to be down for the count, unmoving as he laid on the rocky floor. Ash finally fell onto both knees, his hands also touching the floor now. Ash's vision was completely blurry now, barely able to see as the world was spinning. Blackness threatened his vision, with sleep appearing so enticing as Ash felt he was about to pass out.
"Oh my god! Ash!" Delia yelled out worriedly, standing up from her seat. Professor Oak stood up as well, worried for the boy's health. It wasn't just the two of them who were worried, as the majority of Ash's closest friends experienced the same emotions watching the fight from television.
Ash was feeling the world start to go dark, realizing fainting was very possible now. Suddenly, Ash saw several visions appear. Each vision would appear for half a second or barely a second.
Ash meeting Greninja as a Froakie.
Froakie seeing Ash dive off the building to save Pikachu.
Froakie evolving into a Frogadier.
Frogadier evolving into Greninja as he fought Bisharp.
Greninja defeating Sawyer's Sceptile.
Then, Ash felt what Greninja was feeling. It was a desire. A strong desire to defeat Charizard. To help Ash accomplish his dreams, just like he had helped the Pokemon. This feeling rejuvenated Ash, helping hum push himself up. As Ash pushed himself up, he saw his Pokemon also rise from the ground. Greninja stood tall while shaking slightly, pulling his water shuriken from his back. The stream of water surrounded Greninja once again, the crowd roaring loudly as they witnessed this impressive battle between the two special Pokemon.
Ash smiled even though his body felt horrible, pushing through the pain. The teenager knew that he had to, just like Greninja was doing just now.
"Alright Greninja, let's wrap this up! Smoke screen!" Ash ordered Greninja.
"Shit. Charizard, blow away the smoke with your wings!" Alain countered.
Greninja threw a pellet towards the floor, creating a thick cloud of black smoke. It completely blinded the battlefield, hiding Greninja and Charizard. Alain and Charizard couldn't see absolutely anything. However, Ash was able to see just what Greninja was able to due to their bond.
Charizard flapped his wings quickly, blowing the smoke across the battlefield, no longer blinding them and the crowd. Just as he was able to completely blow the smoke away, Charizard was blasted backwards into the wall from a Water Pulse.
Once again, Ash gave out his orders telepathically, with Greninja firing the water attack. Charizard took a few seconds in getting back up, noticeably slower than he had been previously. Ash attempted to capitalize on Charizard's weakness, ordering another attack.
"Use Water Shuriken, quickly!"
"Go through it and hit him with Flare Blitz!"
Greninja quickly formed a water shuriken from his hands, throwing it in the direction of Charizard. Charizard flew quickly towards Greninja, covered completely in flames. The Water Shuriken hit the Charizard, creating smoke and causing the Dragon to roar in anguish. This didn't stop the Pokemon, who collided with Greninja painfully. Greninja slid backwards, barely holding his footing while screeching in pain.
Ash cried in pain, remaining standing as he clenched his eyes shut in an attempt to ease the pain. It was clear both Pokémon were on their last legs. They had one last attack in them.
"Cmon Ash, finish it!" Bonnie yelled, jumping up and down on the floor.
Serena screamed as well, cheering on Ash even though she knew he couldn't hear it due to the roaring crowd and distance between the two. "You got this Ash! I believe in you!"
"It looks like the two of them have enough energy to do one last move, maybe two. It all has come down to this." Clemont said worriedly, with Bonnie and Serena barely able to hear him due to the noise.
"Charizard, use Flare Blitz with everything you got! This is it!" Alain screamed, pumping his fist at Charizard.
"Full Power Water Shuriken, Greninja! Time to end this!" Ash yelled out to Greninja, who glared at Charizard.
Charizard remained still, with fire encompassing his body more and more by the second. Eventually, the Dragon was covered in flames that extended past his body by several feet. A large number of the audience had never seen a fire type move be that strong and large.
Greninja took off the Shuriken on his back for the first time since he had mega evolved. The blue Shuriken grew in size slowly. After a few seconds, the Shuriken was bigger than even Charizard himself.
Charizard was the first to move, flying towards Greninja once again. The flames were so large that even the crowd was sweating from the heat. Charizard was getting closer as Greninja threw his Shuriken forcefully towards Charizard.
The Pokemon and attack met head on, both struggling for power. Greninja fell on his knee from throwing the large attack, watching as Charizard fought against the Shuriken. Charizard grunted, struggling to gain traction and the Shuriken attempted to push past him. After a moment, a massive explosion occurred, shaking the entire stadium and deafening the audience for a few seconds. The smoke was ginormous, completely covering the battlefield. Ash and Alain stood covering their eyes, trying with all their power to see the result of the battle.
Ash's heart was pounded heavily as the smoke slowly cleared. Doubt creeped into his mind, questioning if he had won. However, confidence won in the end, reassuring him as the smoke finally cleared.
There, Greninja kneeled on one knee, his head bowed facing a fainted Charizard on the floor. The crowd sound echoed thunderingly, seeing the result of the battle.
"YES!" Serena cheered, hugging Clemont and Bonnie as all three of them jumped up and down excitedly.
"Congratulations Ash, you've done it young man." Professor Oak said with a tear in his eyes, hugging Delia as she sobbed into the older man's shoulder.
Alain approached Charizard, patting him reassuringly adn thanking him before returning the notorious Pokemon. Greninja limped towards Ash, who walked towards his Pokemon while clutching his chest. The two embraced tightly, hugging each other with Ash thanking Greninja for his efforts. Pikachu jumped onto his shoulder, grinning happily as their dream was now a giant step closer to being accomplished.
"Thank you for the battle, Ash. It was truly the best I've ever had." Alain approached Ash, holding his hand out. Ash took it, shaking the older boy's hand and grinning widely as he leaned against Greninja for support. While the battle was over, the two felt extremely weak and exhausted.
"Thanks Alain. I'd love to battle you again one day." Ash said hopefully. Alain nodded in agreement, before congratulating Ash and leaving the field. Ash looked into the crowd alongside Greninja and Pikachu, seeing the number of fans and friends cheering him on. They had finally done it.
Kalos League Winner had a nice ring to it.
