Forsaken is back baby! Surprise! Thank you to Octo on good kush for beta-reading this for me, where would I be without him? A shorter chapter to gain my footing on the suffering.
It was ironic really.
Julius had been to this dungeon so many times in the last few months he knew the layout by heart. One could blindfold him and throw him inside the gritty dust-filled hallway and he would have no issue finding his way through, especially when it came to walking to a specific cell that at the end of the long hallway. Once in his time, he thought that the most dangerous criminal in all of Lugunica remained in there i.
Oh, how foolish of him, how foolish.
Just a few days ago, he would walk proudly in this hall, ignoring the scent of dried blood, burnt flesh, and the sobs of a broken and dying man begging to be released. He continued on gripping the handle of his wooden sword and marching on with purpose to get whatever needed to be done, done
For the sake of his lady, for the sake of himself, Julius Juuklius would press onward to the cell tightening the handle of his sword and ignoring the strange pain in his heart. Determination, and purpose in every step, all he wanted to do was be remembered again by those he hold dear. That's what, any knight of Luginica would do!
That's what anyone would do.
Then again, he wasn't a knight anymore, was he? No, Julius the greatest of knights was nothing but a traitorous murderer. He betrayed the trust that had been given to him when he took on the title of a knight by tearing away one of the few lights in this world of darkness, someone who the people once looked up to. Someone…he could say he looked up to.
Just being inside the dungeon caused his mind to replay so many events at once, with most interloping into nothing more than a chamber of his former friend's screams of pain and the shock wave each of his power dealt. The former knight could do nothing but frown as his head pulsed with unwanted memories just being inside this prison gave him. If given the chance, perhaps he would run away from this place, and get as far as he could, but he couldn't for two simple reasons.
First, the knights behind him had their hands on their hilts as two others were side by side keeping a tight grip on his chained hands. Julius knew the faces of every single knight around him, and he knew that they were some of the finest in the entire country; escape wouldn't be easy even with his spirits.
But it really didn't matter. Escape wasn't something that crossed his mind He already shamed his family, friends, and all those who stood behind him with his actions. He would only make everything worse if he tried to avoid punishment.
"We're here," the commander said as everyone stopped in front of a steel door that just seem corrupted by dread. Every knight shudder as they looked at the steel door, all except for Julius who stared at it with deep, sunken eyes. "The chains off him."
'No," Julius said, quickly moving his hands away from the two guards preparing to remove. "Subaru was in chains the entire time of his sentence, not once did I remove them while he suffered. It's only fitting…I as well suffer the same."
The commander eyed Julius for a moment. He stared deep into the eyes of the knight, and for a few moments, his own heart ached. The men shared a few seconds of silence and understanding before the commander merely nodded, gesturing to the men to open the door.
"I really hope this is just bad understanding," a random knight said aloud, and a murmur of the agreement was echoed throughout, but Julius didn't have the heart to respond. Merely looking at the open door, he took in the scent of death and decay and walked inside the steel door closing with a heavy thud around him.
Then, silence
The only thing Julius could hear was his own withered breath…
And a small sobbing sound came from the corner of the cell. Julius was shocked for a moment as he expected to be alone but, right there in a small puddle of tears and snot laid the knight of Crusch Karsten, Felix Argyle, stripped of his knightly attire and wearing some kind of suit curled up into a small ball.
"Felix…" Julius whispered his name causing the cat boy to flinch and for a brief second, he looked up at the former greatest of knights revealing his snot-face, and pink eyes that were a result of hours of crying.
The knight of Crusch Karsten parted his lips to say something, but no words came out. He instead merely returned back to his ball and kept on crying, his sobs being slightly muffled.
Julius said nothing at the sight, merely giving a small glance of understanding and slowly sat next to Felix. He hoped his presence, as disgusting as it was, could maybe give some sort of semblance of comfort to his friends for they both shared this guilt, both shared the pain, and both did the crime.
For almost an entire hour, Julius and Felix remained silent and unmoving. Felix cried his heart out for his sins and Julius merely stared at his, too empty to move any part of him. They would have remained like this for days, but their grieving was cut short by the turning of a key, their steel door unlocking and a faint light piercing their room.
Julius and Felix looked up and stared with confusion at a strange man in a business suit holding a briefcase and a metia similar to one Subaru had used.
"Hello, Julius and Felix right?" the businessman asked holding up a stack of paper. "Sheesh, quite the mess you two have caught yourselves, accusations of torture, manipulation."
Felix looked away as the man recounted his sins, while Julius merely straightened himself and asked,"Who are you?"
"Saul Goodman I've been hired by your princess who paid a very handsome amount of money to get you both out of this mess."
"We did it!" Julius said looking down in shame.
"Just because you did it doesn't mean you're guilty!" the lawyer quickly retorted and a smile crept across his face. "Trust me, I'll give you the best defense money can buy!"
"Your honor, my clients were just fooling around! Don't they have a right to have some fun, even at the expense of someone else?" the lawyer, Saul Goodman, said standing before the very confused sage council.
"But they tortured and killed a hero." one retorted.
"No, they were having a bit of fun with someone who thought they were on the archbishop. Come on here, if there's someone that needs to be put on trial, get the son of a bitch who took the poor man's memories away!"
"Gluttony's dead," a knight spoke up.
"See, there is no reason for this trial in the first place! I demand it be dismissed," *the lawyer demanded and finally sat down. After a few minutes of talking amongst themselves, the sage council reached a verdict.
"I see no problems with this reasoning. Julius and Felix are free of all charges, and have their titles of knights reinstated."
"Yes!" Anastasia cheered proudly and so did the lawyer.
Felix and Julius…were shocked.
"Uh.." Felix began when all of a sudden Crusch hugged him.
"Oh Felix, I'm sorry for thinking you were guilty, lets go home and have sex or something."
"Ok!" Felix said suddenly horny as hell.
And so no consequences were given, oh Subaru got revived too and Satella destroyed the world and rebuilt it cause why not really.
April fools :)
