Legend stood over his now considerably older doppelganger laying splayed upon the couch while Winona tried to call Valda in a small Shiekah-slate-like device. She paced behind him muttering to herself. Legend fidgeted uncomfortably, pizza forgotten and discarded. He wondered idly, looking over Ravio, if this is what he might look like someday …If he lived that long. He balked at the idea. He studied the man's silvering ponytail, ample chin... and stoop-shoulders, his soft, wide sedentary body still being restrained by the valiant efforts of the fine silks and expensive sturdy fabrics of his bespoke suit. He certainly looked like a 'merchant' now… he thought. Kudos to the man. Good for him…but, not the life he, himself, would lead. He decided that should he live long enough to see grey upon his own temples, he would take much better care of himself.
"H-how do you know him?" came a small shaky voice from his left. He turned to meet the wide, grey-eyed stare of Winona, their impromptu host, and unwitting accomplice in all this. "He made it sound like he knew you from a long time ago, but.. how can that be? H-how old are you? A-are you an elf?"
"A what?" He asked with an almost Imperceptible twitch of his eye.
"I-I know maybe that sounds silly.. It's just all I could think of. And your ears.. they're so-" Her hand came up to her face, seemingly without her awareness, touching the shell of her own small rounded ear. She seemed to notice and cut herself off looking at the floor embarrassed.
Without all the leather, spikes, and makeup she looked much…. smaller. Vulnerable, somehow in her fluffy robe and jammies. It stirred something in him and made him feel uneasy. He decided that he preferred her with the 'war-paint' of her stage costume, though he'd never have voiced that out loud...
He stepped back unconsciously giving her a wider berth. "I ah….no. I'm Hylian. Everyone has ears like this where I'm from." He forced a laugh, and she met his eyes again.
She shook her head eyes, still terrified, never leaving his. "I-I'm sorry. I guess that was pretty rude, huh? I'm just trying to understand."
He met her eyes briefly before looking away out the window (in what?...shame?). "No.." He simply said, "Its fine.. I don't understand either, but We'll try to get out of your hair soon, ok?" He walked away from the girl, leaving her and her obviously many questions alone with the slumped figure of the aging Ravio as he walked back to the relative comfort of his companions who were keeping a quiet but heated council in the dining area on the enclosed the balcony overlooking the bay. He sighed heavily, his head spinning. Legend felt…weird, and he didn't like it. Not one bit.
He sat down against Four's side, slightly jostling the smaller man as he found purchase upon a stool at the big marble counter. Four glanced at him.
"Are you ok Ledge?"
"..Yeah. Its just…been a weird day."
"Yeah…" Four gave the man a sympathetic pat on the back and returned his attention to the conversation being had around them.
Time Twilight and Wars were discussing the Chain's next move.
"We can't stay here." Wars was speaking. "If there are indeed still monsters here we need to go back and eradicate them."
"I second that.." Twilight spoke next. "The people in that building did not seem to know how to fight. Nor did I see any warriors as we passed through the city. If they are as helpless as that the monsters could wreak unspeakable havoc here."
"But.. There weren't any monsters here! At least not until we showed up..judging by their reactions" Four said chewing a piece of now cold (but none the less delicious) four-cheese pizza thoughtfully. "What if they were the ones to follow us this time?" What if by simply being here we are putting the good people of this city in even greater danger?"
"That's true." Said Sky from his spot leaning against the floor to ceiling glass window of the kitchen, still marveling at the beauty of the strange night behind the clear perfect glass; the black water and the bright city beyond reflected in it. The giant orange bridge now mostly obscured in a building fog giving it a ghostly look. "At least in the spot we were in.. they may have spawned elsewhere first and we just got lucky finding those ones.."
"Hmph. 'Lucky'.." Legend groused and got up from the counter to get more ice from slot in the magic metal door for his now empty drink.
Sky gave the man a concerned look. "It could have been much worse, Ledge…We saved lives tonight."
"Even so.." The pink-haired man continued, remembering the terrified look on the face of the curly haired guitarist on the floor of the club, scooting away from him on her badly broken leg swinging her guitar…and the look of darkness (hatred?) on Ravio's face when he recognized him. "I get the distinct feeling that we are not welcome here. This isn't our world.. and we shouldn't linger any longer than we have to."
Time who had been quiet until now, letting his men air their thoughts, spoke up. "I agree with the Vet. I don't think that it is safe to stay here. We should find a way to leave as soon as possible, we will take out as many monsters as we can while we do it, but if they are indeed following us here?" He nodded to Four. "They will follow us beyond. The mission stays the same. The faster that we can catch up with and destroy whatever is causing this the sooner this and all the other worlds will be safe from the violence."
"But…what if we're wrong?" Wars asked, "What if this is where the Shadow has come to make it's final stand? Think about it? It's a densely populated area with few if any fighters in a world where monsters don't seem to be a normal concern and its so far out of our known battlegrounds we are effectively fighting blind. It would have a significant strategic advantage here.."
Time grimaced at this, nodding in acknowledgment. Now it was his turn for a refill.
"Well," Legend sighed "Whatever we do.. We should probably make a move soon. I'm not sure what this 'Ravio of the future' has against me.. but he didn't seem to be too happy to see me. We may as well leave before he wakes up to avoid a confrontation."
