This got a lot more feedback than I expected. I'll admit it now, I have a hard time grasping Denji's character. It's not an issue now since he doesn't have the POV, but it might be later.

Weiss was used to dealing with insanity. Regardless of how much her friends called her a rigid ice queen, they couldn't deny that she'd been accepting of all their idiosyncrasies. Ruby's obsession with weapons and almost drug-like addiction to strawberries, Yang's insinstence on pushing the boundaries of legality, and Blake being a literal former terrorist. How anyone could say she was a prissy snob when she let that go, Weiss had no idea.

And yet despite all that she still found herself absolutely flabbergasted with the man she was forced to interact with now.

Her experience with men had hardly been the most positive throughout her short life. Aside from Klein and her grandfather, she couldn't recall a single one who she'd describe in positive connotations before coming to Beacon. Father was greedy and corrupt, Whitley was a little monster, and while both boys and girls had attempted to cozy up to her in order to take advantage of her position, men were far more brazen once they realized what they stood to gain. Not just being bound to the heiress to the SDC but rather more...carnal pursuits.

Which was what made this Denji so infurating. The man, if he could even be called that, was a crude pervert whose only value was that he at least was upfront about his base desires. He barely paid attention in class, clearly didn't care at all about killing Grimm for anything more than a paycheck, and he was a monster. Not in the metaphorical sense like her father was. Rather he was a literal bladed monstrosity that erupted in chainsaws and blood.

And yet Weiss found that last part less disgusting than what was in front of her now.

"Weiss' face twitched and she resisted the urge to flip the table in a rage. Denji, for a multitude of reasons, had no team of his own. How he was expected to function alone without being a fully-trained Huntsman was left unexplained, but honestly she didn't care enough about him to ask. All she remembered was the headmaster requesting that she take him on a tour of Vale in order to get him acclimated. Why her when she wasn't even a local she again had no idea, though she'd accepted the request. Currying favor with the headmaster could only benefit her.

Right now, however, she was sincerely wondering if any amount of brownie points was worth watching the gross fool shove cake into his mouth with his bare hands. In his excitement to eat the cake he'd accidentally knocked the utensils off the table, and rather than picking them up or asking for replacements like any sane person he decided his unwashed hands were sufficient enough.

Everyone stared at them and Weiss grit her teeth. He was absolutely disgusting, a boor who cared little for how others perceived him. Even Whitley knew to keep up appearances in public.

"Man, this ish awesome!" he shouted, mouth full and bits of soggy cake spitting out with every word. Weiss almost screamed when a particularly large piece landed on her sleeve, "Thanks for treating me!"

"It...is no issue," Weiss said through gritted teeth. Think of the benefits this would give her, she reminded herself.

"I never had this back home."

"I suppose the quality of cakes in Vale surpass that of Mistral." He was Mistralian, right? His name and features indicated such?

"Huh?" He looked at her slack-jawed for a second before he swallowed, "Uh, yeah, Mistral. Right." She raised a brow. That sounded a lot less certain than it should have, "But that ain't what I meant. Never ate a cake before."

...

"What?"

"Huh?"

"What do you mean you've never had a cake before?"

"Never had it before." He sucked on his fingers. Gross.

"How is that possible?" Even those who didn't have three cake butlers like she did had pastries.

"Couldn't afford it." He shoveled another handful into his mouth.

A part of her wanted to ask more, but there was something else that she was legitimately curious about, "Why are you here?" He looked up from the messy plate, "Did you honestly choose to be a Huntsman in order to..." she trailed off, unable to finish the crude statement.

"Sure, why not?"

"It's...obscene and petty!" Weiss argued, "Huntsmen are supposed to be more than such simple goals! They're the protectors of mankind!"

"Sure, maybe, but I don't really care about that stuff," he replied carelessly, making her blood boil, "Some people wanna save the world or whatever. I just want money, food, a roof over my head, and a girl to call my own. I'll fight damn hard to get it, so what's the difference?"

"The difference, you cretin, is that we're doing this for more than ourselves."

He just shrugged again and went back to eating without a word. It wasn't because he was contrite, but rather that he didn't care at all. It only made Weiss madder. Not only was he small-minded but somehow he'd gotten the personal attention of the headmaster himself. Not even Pyrrha received such notice, and yet this Denji did?

Denji finished the cake and grinned at her with his shark-like teeth, "Thanks again! I'll pay ya back soon as I can."

"It's okay." She would've preferred if he kept far away from her after today. Besides, it wasn't as if Lien was an issue. She'd paid for things for her friends many times without the expectation of ever being paid back.

"Nuh-uh. I hate owin' people, that shit always comes back to bite you."

"If you say so."

Mercifully, she didn't have to interact with Denji again after that and she swore to herself that she wouldn't even if the headmaster offered her a guaranteed spot in the Vytal finale. As far as she was concerned the farther he was from her the better.

Life continued as normal after that. They studied, trained, prepared for Vytal, and commited multiple acts of vigilantism against the White Fang. All very normal Huntress-in-training things. The problem came when the White Fang had shot down her bullhead passing over Mountain Glenn when she was making her way back home for the semester break. How they even knew where she was going Weiss had no idea, but the end result was an unconsious (but alive) pilot, herself and a destroyed ship surrounded by White Fang ready and eager to cut her head off.

She'd fought admirably, and she was certain that given enough time she could've foiled their pathetic attempt at an ambush, but the White Fang had chosen a poor ambush spot. Their fighting and negativity had attracted a Goliath and it cared little for their petty ideological conflicts. The Grimm elephant trampled its way through the masked Faunus and turned its attention to her once the White Fang had died or retreated.

The fight didn't last long. Her Aura had already been expended from the crash and the previous fight, so it was a miracle she did as well as she did. Weiss cried out in pain as the trunk smashed against her gut and she was flung against the wall of a nearby abandoned house. Her Aura flickered, trying to maintain itself before eventually sputtering out.

Weiss looked up and glared at the approaching Grimm. If this was to be the end then she would face death with dignity.

And then she heard the sounds of chainsaws revving.

Loud laughter soon followed and the Goliath roared in pain as a chainsawed monstrosity - Denji - carved through its back with ease. Weiss could only watch with wide eyes as Denji screamed like a mad berserker and cut the thick hide like it was made of tissue paper. The fight, if it could even be called that, lasted for only a minute before the Grimm faded from sight and Denji returned to his human state.

"Yo, you alright?" he asked casually, as if he wasn't covered in blood and shredded clothing.

"I...I'm fine." She stood up shakily and dusted herself off, "Wh-What are you doing here?"

"Huh? Oh, that Ozpin guy told me to go explore this place with Oobleck, but I got bored and wandered off when he started ranting about soil samples and shit." Weiss blinked. That...was not what she expected to hear.

"Well...thank you, Denji. I owe you my life."

"What are you talking about? I still owe you for the cake. We're even now, yeah?" He actually looked curious, as if it was even a question that saving her life more than paid for a thirty lien cake. Or that the two could even be comparable at all.

Weiss laughed. She didn't know if it was out of relief or just how bizarre the entire situation was, but she did. Denji just looked at her as if she was the insane one and just waited for her to finish, "You've more than paid your debts. Actually, I believe I owe you now, so I'll do my best to pay you back." Schnees always paid their debts, or at least they did before father took over the company.

"Wait, you serious?" He grinned, "So, uh, can I ask for you to pay me back now?"

"Of course. You'll have to wait a bit for me to get my wallet back, but I'm sure I can-"

"I was actually gonna ask for something else." He rubbed the back of his head and she suddenly felt her face flush. He'd been very honest about his desire to find a girlfriend and that it was one of his main reasons to be a Huntsman. She could see it now. He would ask for a date and gratitude would demand that she give him one. To do otherwise would appear ungrateful.

It only made sense. She was a beautiful and talented young woman and she'd had many admirers in Beacon. Why wouldn't he take the chance to try and get a date out of her. It was actually flattering in a way.

And perhaps she could see herself agreeing for other reasons. Unlike Jaune, Denji was reasonably competent and his desires obvious. Whatever else she could say about the man, he was a formidable fighter and too simple in his goals to betray her. Yes, she could see it working. So with a deep breath, Weiss looked up at him and awaited his-

"So I heard from Ruby you got a sister. Mind introducin' me?"

...

Weiss looked up at him with a brittle smile and slapped his cheek hard.

Poor Denji, trapped in a world where tsunderes don't let you touch their boobs even if you save their life. Well, that's two out of four members of team RWBY that are a swing and a miss.

Not sure about next chapter. I could either go for Velvet or Blake since I can imagine Denji kicking either Cardin or Adam in the nuts and saying racism or Faunus supremacy is stupid compared to just eating burgers and finding a girlfriend. Or I could have Kobeni also trapped in Remnant and somehow being forced to work for Cinder's group, the poor woman.

Review Answers:

BrazeRancor - Grimm do have black blood that disappears when they die. Denji just has to drink before killing the Grimm.

kerrowe - Late entry and he doesn't even have a team. This chapter proves he doesn't need one.

dougwell666 - That and RWBY's light on gore then here comes mr chainsaw for arms.
