The bright morning stung Emma's eyes, unable to open them. She rolls over to find the other side of the bed empty, so she rustles around slamming her hand down to see if Regina has moved from her reach. She finally opens her eyes after a few forced blinks to find her lover has disappeared. Sitting up, the blonde curls fell around her face so she quickly put it in a messy bun then slowly got out of bed. Stepping into the bathroom, green eyes widened as they caught a glimpse of faint bruises on her neck and chest from the night before, blushing at the thought. She uses the bathroom only to then remember that she was still naked. Walking back into the large bedroom, she spots the clothes strewn throughout the floor and decides to put on the comfy clothes Regina wore the day before. She then decides to go downstairs for breakfast.
Regina woke up much earlier, so much so, her and the sun woke up at the same time. Her body clock was on a strong routine and nothing was going to change it, not even late night escapades. Getting some clean comfy clothes from the closet after taking a shower, the mayor was surprised that Emma was still asleep despite how loud the hair dryer was even with the bathroom door closed. She didn't want to style hair though, so she just diffused it and let her natural curls come through, which rarely happens. Something felt different with Regina, but she didn't want to admit it just yet. Walking back into the bedroom, careful hands brushed the blonde mess out of her lover's face then gave her a soft kiss on the forehead. After a minute of staring at the peaceful woman, Regina sets off downstairs to start making breakfast: blueberry pancakes, cheesy scrambled eggs, and hashbrowns.
Henry fluttered his eyes open and checked the time. He wondered why his mother didn't wake him up 'to keep a routine', but he didn't question it. Slowly getting out of bed, he slides into his yoda slippers, as he turned off his nightlight. He smelled the faint smell of pancakes which woke him right up so he heads out of his room.
Emma and Henry open their doors at the same time stopping them in their tracks staring for a moment.
"Why are you wearing my mom's clothes?" He broke the silence.
"Oh, I um- I spent the night and I didn't have any pajamas, so your mom gave me these," Emma blushed.
The boy spied the untouched guest bedroom, glanced back at his mother, then to the bedroom, then to Regina's room and the clothes on the floor then back at his mother, "oookkaayyy."
"I smell pancakes!" Emma said waving him down the stairs wanting to get away from the conversation as quick as possible.
They both head down the stairs in awkward silence as they hear a faint humming get louder as they approach the kitchen. They find the mayor swaying to her own beat with a cup of coffee in one hand, a working spatula in the other, wearing a red Granny's shirt and black biker shorts. Emma was smiling from ear to ear while Henry's brow scrunched with confusion.
Henry leaned over to his birth mother and whispered, "What did you do?"
"Good morning, sweet heart. Good morning dear," Regina turned smiling at both of them.
"Hi!" Emma answered, not knowing which endearment was meant for her.
"Henry, set the table please, I'm almost done," Regina sipped her coffee, turning back to the stove.
"Whatever you did, do it again," the boy whispered before dashing round the kitchen.
"Gladly," Emma said to herself, as she help set the table.
As the last fork was placed, Regina set the food on the table carefully. She then set a cup of coffee by Emma's place, just the way she liked it. Gesturing them to sit, she put the spatula in the sink and joined them. "How did you sleep?" She asked.
"Good," The other two spoke at the same time causing them to stare at each other with confusion, again.
Regina laughed, "I'm glad," she took a bite of eggs, "I was thinking that we could go to the park today and have a picnic, it's a nice sunny day, don't want it to go to waste. How does that sound?"
Henry was already almost done with his second pancake when he smiled with a mouthful of syrupy mush and nodded his head causing the women to laugh.
"Sounds perfect," Emma said, "but I will need to go to get some clean clothes from my room at Granny's before we go."
"I can lend you some of mine, dear." Regina offered, taking a sip of her coffee, though you look better with none, she thought.
"As much as I love your clothes, I don't think a pencil skirt and a button up is a 'day at the park' outfit."
"I have others, but suit yourself. You can just meet us at the park then."
"Yes ma'am," Emma blushed at the words she just said, reminiscing of the night before and how those same words effected the woman across from her.
Brown eyes stared into green as the blonde shifted her seat unable to sit still as Regina sat calmly watching her.
"I think I ate too much," Henry broke the tension.
"Me too, but I need to get going because we need all the sunshine we can get. C'mon kid help me clean up."
The boy got up from his seat taking his plate with him, placing it in the sink. Repeating the motions, taking his other dishes then Regina's. Emma followed cleaning up the crumbs and left over food, though there wasn't much. Regina watched happily, sipping the last of her coffee. Emma offered an open hand to her lover as Regina kindly gave her the empty mug, smirking as she did.
"Wonderful job, you two. Now go get changed Henry, then you can help me pack when Emma leaves," Regina stood.
"Okay!" he trudged to the stairs holding his full stomach as if it would fall off.
The women watched as he left the kitchen when Regina snuck behind Emma wrapping her arms around her, "my clothes look good on you," Regina kissed the pale neck.
A small moan left Emma's mouth, "But they look better on your floor," Emma whispered back, "and I really gotta go."
Regina sighed, "I guess you do." Regina finally let go when she slapped Emma's ass playfully, "now get upstairs."
Emma jumped from the smack, giggling, "okay, okay! I'm going!" She ran up the stairs with the mayor following her as she teased that she might attack again.
An hour or two has passed, Henry is out of breath from climbing the jungle gym, drinking a caprisun while sitting on his knees next to the mayor as she's laying back on her elbows with sunglasses on. Footsteps are heard coming towards them, as a blonde with jeans and a tank top stand in front of them blocking the sun. Regina slips her glasses onto her head gazing at the strong arms above her.
"Well... hello, dear," Regina almost choking on her words.
"Sorry I took so long, I wasn't sure what to bring," Emma held up two almost identical bottles, one red wine and one sparkling grape juice and three plastic wine glasses.
"You didn't have to bring anything, but thank you," Regina sat up.
"I also couldn't find you. Why are you so far back and behind... the biggest tree?" Emma finally sat down with them.
"Though I want to seem human as the mayor, I don't like prying eyes on my personal life."
"Understandable," Emma opened both bottles with ease and poured the drinks respectively.
Henry took one big swig of the grape juice and set the cup down, "I'm gonna go to the swings, is that okay?"
"Of course, but 20 more minutes before we have to reapply the sunscreen, okay" Regina ordered.
"Okay!" and he was off.
A few minutes pass after the women watched him swing, "Can I ask you something?" Emma asked shyly.
"Anything, dear," Regina looked worried.
"Okay, uhm... It's only been like a week or two, and this is so cliche to move so fast but..."
"What is it, love?"
Emma took a deep breath, "I was wondering if you would- god this is so embarrassing. I wish there was a better way to say it or a different word because it sounds so childish to say, but you make me so happy so I just wanted to ask...ugh! so I wanted to ask you if- I just- I never thought I would find someone that would make me this happy so fast and I hope you feel the same way because you seem... happier too since the first time we met and I don't want to pressure you into anything you don't want to do but I just wanted to ask, even though it hasn't been long at all but I feel like we've-"
Regina's deep hearty laugh cut off the blonde as she gently stopped Emma's hands from shaking, "I would love to be your girlfriend, Miss Swan. You make me the happiest."
Emma let out a sigh of relief, "Thank god." She took a second to recouperate, "And although I do love when you call me that, you can just say Emma, you know."
"Oh, I know, I just love the way you look when I say it." Regina smirked devilishly.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Regina's eyes turned dark, leaning in as close as possible, milimeters between their lips, "You know exactly what I mean... Miss Swan."
Emma's breath hitched as she tried to lean in for a kiss when the brunette pulled away, "nuh uh, it's not that easy."
"I'm beginning to learn that," Emma huffed.
Henry came running over with pink cheeks and tired lungs, "so can you guys date now or what? Because mom is really happy when you're around."
The women were shocked at his blunt question, "as of 30 seconds ago, yes, we are officially dating. But don't tell anyone, please. We're trusting you." Emma answers.
The boy nodded with a wide smile, "now we can have picnics all the time and go to granny's for breakfast everyday and have movie nights and game nights-"
"Woah, slow down there, kid. We gotta figure out this whole 'mom' thing first." Emma suggested.
"Yes, I would like to stay Mom, please," Regina added.
"Okay! Can I call you Momma?" Henry asked Emma.
"Sure, kid," she smiled.
He took a big gulp straight from the bottle of the sparkling grape juice, "last one to the swings is a rotten egg!" and took off.
Both women looked at each other with determination, then raced to the swings after their son.
