Chapter Ten "Patch #$%^& Incident"
Raven made a slashing motion with her right wing and a tear formed. Raven flew in and quickly found herself at her destination.
Her instincts screamed at her, and Raven quickly moved her body allowing her instincts to guide her. Raven's instincts no longer screamed danger when she flew towards a beam near the ceiling.
Raven looked around at what was causing her instincts to scream danger. It took a while for her to locate. If she hadn't looked through the magical tomes that had Branwen Tribe had passed down or had discovered through her connection Raven would have never noticed the sigils used to power and control the Bounded Fields covering the room.
The transformed woman sighed in relief. She thanked the Brother Gods that her Semblance allowed her to open portals. It seemed her decision to use her Semblance had been the right decision, otherwise if she had tried to sneak in through normal means then she would have been discovered or killed.
Just looking at the Bounded Fields in the room lit Raven's desire to spy on her targets even more. The Branwen Tribe's magical tomes were all damaged due to wear and tear or just the passage of time to the point it was common to see entire sections to be missing. If her tribe's magical tomes had been a greater shape than Raven might have been able to unlock her Magic Circuits, knowledge that was sadly missing.
No, I can learn how to unlock my Magic Circuits! Raven screamed in her mind in delight as she scanned her surroundings for where the Bounded Fields were located.
She was able to locate some of the Bounded Fields thanks to the damaged magical tomes of her tribe. The other Bounded Fields she detected thanks to her Huntress instincts. Some of the Bounded Fields she might have been able to disarm, but most of them were outside her ability without access to Magic Circuits.
Magic Circuits, Magic Circuits. Magic Circuits. She repeated fervently in her mind as used her Semblance to create spatial tears to bypass the Bounded Fields entirely.
It was not long before Raven was able to get pass the security Bounded Fields to keep out intruders and she entered a study room.
Her eyes lit up when the study room was filled with shelves stacked with books. These were not just any books. She recognised that they were magical tomes straight away. How did she know you might ask? Well, because normal books were not enchanted with magic that could make their pages strong enough to a thin layer of copper or their hardcover tough as fingernail thick steel. No one would go to such lengths to protect the knowledge inside a book unless they were magical tomes.
Raven's started to become jealous of the apartment owner whose home she was trespassing. If her tribe's collection of magical tomes were this diverse and rich in arcane knowledge then her people might not have to live the risky life as bandits. They could instead live more safer or prosperous lives if they could summon even a fraction of the magical powers that their non-bandit Branwen ancestors had once commanded during Remnant's magical civilization.
Just thinking reclaiming her ancestor's past glory ignited her passion for arcane knowledge. Raven quickly reached for the basics of magic. The most crucial ability that allowed one to manipulate energy and matter with their mind. Magic Circuits.
Her eyes lit up when she found the books, "Magic Circuits, the Foundation of a Mage."
Raven without thinking reached to grab the book with her peak. She didn't even notice that her first attempt to pull the book failed or subsequent failures until she was out of breath. The raven blushed at her stupidity for not realising how her raven form didn't have enough strength to pull out book.
She transformed back to her human self and placed the book on a desk before proceeding to read.
"The ritual to awaken Magic Circuits is very similar to how Aura is activated for the first time. Well, it not surprising given that Aura and Semblances were developed after the magic civilisation was destroyed and everyone lost the ability to use magic outside of Ozpin, Salem and the Four Maidens…"
The Branwen Chief became so engrossed in her reading she nearly missed the sound of a door opening. She might have failed to notice it if it wasn't for her experience of assassination attempts by ambitious men and women wanting to take over the Branwen tribe.
She hurryingly closed the book and put it away to its original place before transforming back into a raven. Raven was so quick about hiding any evidence of her presence that did everything before the door closed.
The raven tore a spatial tear and slipped from the study room and into living room to see the targets that lived in the apartment she had sneak into.
Raven shuddered while looking at male. Shirou Emiya struck fear into all criminals. He was ruthless and efficient hunter of criminals, seemingly nowhere was safe from his reach from his reach. The criminals that dreaded Shirou the most were abusers, kidnappers and murderers. Supposedly, abusers, kidnappers and murderers caught by Shirou had been forced to re-live what their victims had suffered from the victim's perspective. Many had gone insane or begging for forgiveness as a result.
After seeing the Bounded Fields protecting the apartment and the study room full of magical tomes, Raven had a strong feeling that the rumors were likely true. In fact, she was willingly to bet that rumors might dead on right if the magical tomes and Bounded Field was any representation of Shirou's magical abilities.
She refocused her attention of masking her presence. Shirou had caught rogue huntsman and huntress that were more powerful or stealthy than her. The last thing Raven wanted was to be caught and re-live her victims' trauma.
Raven turned her attention to the woman walking beside Shirou Emiya.
The woman was Rin Tohsaka, one of the most famous and popular figures as of late. She commanded the influence of the Tohsaka Industries, a rapidly growing company that was said to surpass the Schnee Dust Company in the near future.
What caught Raven's attention the most was not Rin's wealth or influence. It was instead her position as a newly minted teacher of Beacon Academy. Rin was the only one teaching magic to others, and was arguable better than Ozpin who had his magical abilities weaken with every reincarnation. She was just the person that Raven needed to reclaim the Branwen Tribe's past glory.
Raven was just about to swoop down, transform into her human form and snatch Rin but… She barely stopped herself from walking over the beam's edge as her instincts overrode her ravenous desire.
I nearly got myself killed… Raven berated herself and returned her attention to her targets. What are they going to do?
She watched as her targets walked through the living room and into another room that Raven hadn't gone into before. Well, she already knew what kind of room it was thanks to the Branwen tribe's intelligence gathering efforts. Raven had looked at the apartment's floor plan before attempting her infiltration.
After the door closed behind her targets, Raven silently flew towards the door. She made sure that there were no Bounded Fields nearby before even daring to put her ears up to the door.
What Raven heard next made her doubt her hearing. She took her ears off the door and cleaned them before putting her ear onto the door again. The noise she heard the second time was the exact same thing.
Her face went red. She tried her best to listen for any noise that might prove to be invaluable information that she could use. Raven really tried, but she couldn't listen for too long before her patience disappeared.
Argh! Raven screamed in frustration as she could no longer bear to hear anymore, especially when it reminded her of her own urges that she had been barely suppressing for a long time. How long has it been so I get laid!? Months? Years? Screw maintaining 'the strong and ruthless tribe chief' reputation! I don't care anymore if my reputation stops my tribesmen from assassinating me or refusing to listen to my orders.
Raven gave up on eavesdropping and swiped her left wing down. A portal formed and she flew through it.
- O –
"Rin was that really necessary?" asked Shirou as he tried to maintain a straight face, but I saw his red cheeks that he tried his best to hide.
I giggled but I could understand why he was so embarrassed. After all, I played a recording of us having sex to deceive the intruder that had the guts to eavesdrop on us.
"It maybe embarrassing," I admitted with my cheeks turning a tinge red, "but it was an easy way to distract the intruder. After all, what intruder in their mind would think that they had been discovered if two people were having sex."
"I can't argue with your reasoning when the results speak for themselves." He sighed. Shirou looked me in the eye with a strange expression. "Why did you cast a love curse on intruder? I would have thought you would have wanted to capture the intruder."
"If the intruder had been someone else, I may have wanted to capture them." I shook my head. "After Cinder sneak into our apartment, I strengthened our security. The cameras caught the intruder's face when she briefly transformed into her human form." I clicked my fingers and a holographic screen showed up displaying the intruder's human face. "I ran facial recognition scan on our intruder. She popped in several databases. Her name is Raven Branwen. She is the brother of Qrow Branwen, aunt of Ruby Rose and mother of Yang Xiao Long."
"Hmphm, no wonder I thought her face seemed slightly familiar given her relation to Qrow and Yang," muttered Shirou. "Why did you let her go? If you discovered her identity, then you must know that she is a very dangerous and wanted criminal."
"Because of her past affiliation with Ozpin and his group," I replied while bringing up relevant information that I had stolen from one of Ozpin's highly secured databases. "She could prove to be valuable second source of information in case all the information we have received from Ozpin or I had stolen from him was fake or partially-wrong."
"I can understand why you let Raven go then." Shirou nodded. "Why the love curse?"
"As someone that grew up with no mother from an early age, I thought Yang didn't deserve to suffer the same fate as me." I replied quietly, feeling slightly jealous that Yang's mother was still alive when my mother had died when I was eight years old. "So I pulled a little trick to get Raven back into Yang's life."
"And how did you plan to do that with a love curse?" Shirou asked incredulously.
"You will see the results soon."
- O –
Qrow drove the heavily modified airship at speed well beyond it had been designed to. He kept pushing the speed regardless if it would further damage the machine. His partner, Taiyang Xiao Long, had spent him a message through special communication line reserved for emergencies asking for help.
A situation had arisen that the local police and Huntsman of Patch and the nearby towns wouldn't be able to help if Taiyang was requesting for Qrow's assistance. Afterall, Taiyang might have retired for several years to raise Ruby and Yang, but he had been one of the best huntsman during his active service and he still tried regularly to maintain his strength. Anyone who might force Taiyang to ask for his help meant it was Grimm or criminals more powerful than Taiyang.
It was not long before Patch appeared in Qrow's sight.
"Hang in there, Taiyang. I am nearly there," said Qrow as he pushed the airship's engine to the breaking point. His agitiation continued to worsen until the airship nearly arrived at his destination. "Taiyang, where are you?!"
"Help me, Qrow!" shouted a familiar voice that eased Qrow's fears that his friend was missing or dead.
"I'm here, what is the thr-" Qrow's voice died out and his eyes widened in disbelief at what he saw. His shock was so great he lost control over the one-man airship. His airship promptly smashed into the ground and he was thrown into the air before landing not to long away from Taiyang.
"Tai, I need your sword inside me~ Hammer me to heaven~!" screamed a seductive and needy voice.
Qrow raised his head from the ground and looked at Taiyang before rubbing his eyes in disbelief. "Taiyang, I must be seeing things!"
"Get your sister away from me, Qrow," yelled a desperate Taiyang as if it was running away from a terrifying thing.
"Tai, why are you running away from me~? I thought you enjoyed stabbing me with your sword. That is why I fell in love with you and how you seeded my womb with Yang!" shouted a very enthusiastic Raven.
"Oh, no I am not sticking around with this shit!" screamed Qrow as he run away.
"Qrow, what are you doing?! I need your help!" yelled a desperate Taiyang.
"I helped you several times, but it always got worse than the last time. To the point that I have learned that I should never be involved in a situation where there is sexually frustrated Raven!"
"Tai, come here~. My sheath needs your sword~!" shouted Raven in an urgent tone.
- O –
"Hey, Ruby!" called out an excited Yang.
"What's up sis?" Ruby asked, curious to why Yang was so happy.
"I just got a text from Uncle Qrow. It says my mum just came back and we might get to see her soon."
"Congratulations, Yang!" shouted a happy Ruby as she embraced her sister. "You had always wanted to see your mother. Now you get the chance to meet her!"
"Aaarrr, guys," said a bewildered Weiss. "You said your father lives in town called Patch right?"
"Yea," replied Yang and Ruby.
"You might want to see this."
"See what?" asked Yang.
"Did Patch appear on the news?" inquired Ruby.
"Yea, and I don't think for good reasons…" responded Weiss awkwardly. "I think I see your dad…"
"My dad?" repeated Yang.
"Oh, did dad slay a dangerous Grimm that the Patch huntsman couldn't handle? Oh, maybe it was a criminal that was too much for the Patch police." Chirped Ruby.
Ruby and Yang sat down on a nearby crouch and looked at the television screen that Weiss was pointing at. What they found made their face turn red. They suddenly felt the urge to dig a hole and bury themselves.
"Breaking news, a retired huntsman and a wanted criminal was seen in Patch running naked…"
- O -
"Pfftt!" I spat out the tea I had just drank.
"Rin…" said Shirou unhappily as he wiped the tea I had spat out off his face with a napkin.
"What the hell?! How did this happen?" I shouted in disbelief while looking at Shirou's Scroll that he had handed to me displaying a certain news article.
"I think I should be asking you that. You said the love curse you placed on Raven would result in her re-entering Yang's life. Did you plan for this?"
"Certainly not! What would I want to ruin's someone's life like this?"
"Oh, I thought everything had gone as planned until Taiyang was seen in public naked," muttered Shirou while glancing at my direction.
I sighed and covered my face. My plan of instilling some common sense and self-preservation into my husband had been greatly successful. He no longer threw himself into danger to save someone anymore without any disregard to the dangers to his life. Shirou now considered the risks to his safety and planning contingencies if things went bad before helping someone. A result of years of drilling into his thick skull how I emotionally broken I would feel if Shirou was to die.
My husband's changes greatly pleased me. Yet, there was one change that bothered me. I don't know if it was EMIYA's memories affecting him years later after the Fifth Holy Grail War or the people he hung out with in his pursuit to become a Hero of Justice, but he had bad habit of wanting a Noble Phantasm, Code of Hammurabi, that could make the target re-live the very crimes they had committed from the perspective of their victims. After prolonged use, Shirou seemed to have developed a degree of sadistic joy in punishing criminals.
Raven being a leader of a tribe of bandits that likely had killed or indirectly led to a few deaths of her tribe's raiding would make her a criminal in Shirou's eyes and someone that was worth punishing. The public humiliation of being seen running naked in public could in some ways satisfy his feelings that Raven had gotten a punishment she deserved.
"The love curse I used on Raven was a mild mental-type magic spell that make any feelings of love in the target explode. So if Raven still cared for her husband and daughter then she would have been compelled to express her love for them." I explained. "The love curse certainly wasn't deserved to make someone's sexual desires to overwhelm their rationality and force them into running in the public naked while screaming for sex!"
Shirou laughed for a while, disregarding my glaring.
"So do you plan or doing anything about the situation?"
I sighed and commanded the holographic projector on the dining table to lit up.
"I have already sent messages to my programmers and hackers to do whatever they can do take down articles, pictures and videos of Taiyang's and Raven's public nudity down from the internet. The lawyers are quickly doing everything to keep the news agencies from continuing to report on the topic."
Shirou clicked his fingers. "I think I have the perfect solution. How about drowning out Taiyang's and Raven's public nudity with a more sensational news? You were planning on releasing your class lectures to the public soon. Why not right now?"
I leaned back into my chair and thought about Shirou's proposal. The original plan had been to release my class lectures in two weeks' time. It was timed so to meet another "shocking archaeology discovery" regarding a significantly large and relatively intact ruins from Remnant's magic civilisation.
The class lectures would certainly provide the shock value and news sensation that Taiyang's and Raven's public nudity would be quickly forgotten.
Well, it didn't really matter if I released my class lectures online for the public to see in the grand scheme of my plans. Since, the archaeology discovery was just the beginning of many "discoveries and inventions" that would help foster future mages in Remnant.
"Let's go with that plan," I replied and I started using Spirit Hacking to write several text messages and emails at once to the relatively people in Tohsaka Industries to make the plan a reality.
- O -
"My stomach is killing me!" laughed Qrow as he clutched his stomach with one hand and another at a nearby television displaying the Patch public nudity incident.
Raven glared at the laughing Qrow. If Qrow had appeared at Patch then Taiyang would have run around Patch and she wouldn't have been seen naked running after her husband. Just thinking about the humiliating incident made her pinch her head. She was feeling a rollercoaster of emotions as she tried to process everything in her mind.
What was I thinking?! Raven screamed in her mind as she tried to replay the events that had unfolded. It was one thing to go crazy for sex and chase after Taiyang naked, but I should have been rational enough to stop myself from doing it in public!
Her face became flushed red when she recalled the pleasure. It had been so good and Raven had needed it long ago that a small part of her didn't regret the public nudity, just a little bit.
She slapped her face and looked to her Scroll in despair. Raven disregarded the messages sent to her by her friends and acquittances she had cut off from her life upon assuming the mantle of Chief of the Branwen Tribe, who were trying to reconnect with her after likely hearing the news. Her face that had just been recovering from embarrassment this time turned crimson due to anger.
"Those ungrateful bastards!" screamed a furious Raven as she threw her Scroll into the ground.
The Scroll would have been destroyed by the amount of force that Raven had put on it if it hadn't been designed for Huntsman in mind, making extremely sturdy to survive the harsh elements and damage from Grimm.
"Who and how did the anger you?" asked Qrow after recovering from his laughter and he picked up Raven's thrown Scroll. "No way! The entire tribe has chosen to strip you of your position as Chief and banish you?!"
"Why wouldn't they? I made world news as a sexual deviant that runs away naked and screaming for sex!" laughed Raven in an angry manner. "I brought shame to tribe and position as chief with my actions."
"The tribe should know better to listen to the news. It is after all a propaganda machine that overexaggerates our tribe's criminal activity to the point that we are seen as a band of murderers, when that really isn't the case for the most part." Qrow replied incredulously.
"That may have been true when you were still part of tribe or before I had taken the role as Chief, but I had been very strict on the level of violence permitted and selections of targets we raid," sighed Raven helpless. "It has made me the enemy of many in the tribe. My enemies must have decided this was the perfect chance to get rid of me."
"I'm sorry to hear that," said Qrow in unusually serious and kind tone that he didn't normally use with Raven. "I know that the tribe means a great deal to you when you had sacrificed your adult life in serving it. It must be incredibly painful for you to be banished by those you had helped."
"Screw them. Screw the tribe! If they don't need me then I won't help them anymore!" Raven screeched and she started to curse at her former tribesmen.
Qrow listened patiently as Raven raged on, venting her accumulated stress that she had been suppressing all this time. Her cursing became louder until her voice started to dry.
"Thanks," muttered Raven as she hugged her estranged brother for the first time in years since they had separated due to their ideological differences. "Can you help me out…? I might have gotten cursed…"
"Cursed?" repeated Qrow in shock as he released his hug and pushed Raven slightly so he was looking straight into her eyes. "How do you get cursed?" He shook his head. "No, more importantly, what kind of curse do you think is affecting you?"
Raven's cheeks turned red and she looked away, glancing at Qrow with the corner of her eyes and refusing to meet his gaze. "I think… It's responsible for my unusual… behaviour…"
"Unusual behavior…" Qrow repeated seriously then he couldn't help but start laughing when what Raven said started to register in his mind.
"Qrow!" shouted Raven all the while Qrow started to collapse onto the ground and hug his chest in a futile attempt to suppress his laughter.
"Dear Brothers! Heeheee… You thought of nothing about sex… Heeheee… running around naked after Tai… Heeheee… and demanding to get laid because of a curse!"
Raven had already put up with the people of Patch, news reporters, and Taiyang laughing at him. She had also tolerated Qrow's laughter several times that she couldn't handle it anymore. The former huntress and bandit chief slugged a fist at Qrow, knocking him out cold.
- O -
"Pfft!" coughed Ozpin as his eyes looked at the news channel he had just tuned onto after his meeting with Anti-Salem secret society.
The hot coffee cup in his hand dropped, spilling its steaming content onto his desk and clothes. If he was a normal person, he might have been shocked the reported that his former students, Taiyang and Raven, running naked around Patch or demands for sex, but that was the last thing that was on his mind. His attention was instead focused on the video footage and news analysis focused on Raven's "Semblance."
Ozpin's eyes narrowed as he looked at the news and ordered his own team of analysts to comb through the "Patch Nudity Incident."
He focused on the rarer and serious news discussion about Raven's unusual "Semblance." Many thought that Raven had a rare Semblance that allowed her to manipulate multiple natural elements like fire, water and wind. That wasn't the truth as Ozpin knew Raven's true Semblance. It was called Kindred Link, allowing her to create portals to instantly travel to people she has a strong emotional connection with and can cover vast distances through them.
What Ozpin saw that the news mistaken as Raven's Semblance were signs of a…
"Oz!" shouted Qrow as he kicked the door into Ozpin's office. "You got to look at this…"
"Why are you carrying Raven?" Ozpin asked with a raised brow.
"Where is Taiyang?! I need? HIS SWORD!" screamed Raven in a lustful voice.
"Raven got hit by a curse. She was about to explain how she got it when she started to act like this."
"Please lay Raven on my desk," said Ozpin as he ignored Raven's words and actions that was starting to match what had gotten Raven on the frontpages of the news. "You got to hold her down," he instructed Qrow while inspecting the delirious Raven. "Just as I thought, Raven seems to be a Maiden."
"That can wait, Oz!" Qrow shouted while trying to keep Raven on the desk. "You got to do something about the curse first."
"Of course," Ozpin nodded. "The curse seems to be…"
"Oz what is it? Talk to me?"
"Raven shouldn't be thinking this way…" Ozpin replied with frowning. "She was hit by a powerful love curse designed to force its victim to express their feelings to their love interest."
"Wait, WHAT?!" Qrow's eyes widened. "The curse is supposed to force Raven to express her feelings for Taiyang?"
"Yes, correct."
"Why did Raven chase after Taiyang, completely disregarding common sense to run around naked and demand for sex?" Qrow asked incredulously.
"I can only think of two reasons. One the love curse was so powerful that it bypassed Raven's resistance, but a Maiden's Magic Resistance was able to negate part of the curse. Yet, the curse that get through caused… Or…"
"Out with it, Oz!"
"Raven's libido might be so out of control that she…"
"My sister got laid more than once several hours ago! You can't be saying that she is a slut, right? Hey, Oz! Don't look at me like that. My sister isn't a slut!"
