Bobby stared at him before bursting out laughing. "If this is a joke from Buck." Emilian knew this wasn't something he would believe just like that. A little show-in-tell would be in order. Standing up, he moved the furthest side of the living room. Removing his shirt and pants, he dropped on all four. "Wh-what are you doing?" Bobby jumped from his seat at seeing the man begin to shift. His bones cracking, shifting into place. Before he could comprehend anything, a large black wolf stood where Emilian stood before. "No. There is no fucken way!" Placing his hand on his hair, he turned to face the window. "This is a nightmare. That's all it is."
"It's not a nightmare." Emilian shifted back, reaching for his clothes once more. "This is what we are."
"We?" Bobby scoffed. "I am not that. I am not a monster."
"We are not monsters." The wolf growled. "That night you were bitten by a packmate gone mad. He made you into this. It was always going to happen, but not like this."
Bobby fell to the couch in complete shock. "Werewolves are not real."
"We are very real my friend." Emilian chuckled grabbing his glass. "We have been here for many years. Our kind goes way back in history. But due to hunting, we have been forced into hiding."
"Hunting?"
"Hunters. Humans dedicated to hunting us down." He replied. "Bobby, you will need a lot of training to control this."
"How so?" Bobby was still in a state of shock.
Emilian grabbed his hand, pointing to a scar on his arm. "For one, no more fights with other packs."
"Fi-" Realization came to him. "The dead wolf."
"Yeah." He chuckled. "You put on one hell of a fight I give you that. For a new wolf that is."
"I don't remember." Bobby muttered.
"It's common." Emilian handed him a glass of water.
Bobby took the glass, tossing the water back in one gulp. "How is that even possible?"
"When a wolf is created or born, they are marked." Emilian began. "When that wolf bit you, he marked you as well. That wolf you killed belonged to Ace's pack. You may not have known it, but you came to the aid of your pack. You saved our alpha, who in return marked you as a member of this pack. By the time we arrived, you were a bloody mess. It was a surprise I'll say that much."
Bobby snapped his gaze up at him. "I was a wolf?"
Emilian nodded. "Large white one."
"Holy shit." Bobby exhaled a chuckle. "This can't be true."
"Oh, it is very true." Emilian laughed, slapping him on the leg. "Come."
Bobby followed him out of the house and into a large building. Walking in he gulped at seeing the number of people in the building. It reminded him of a school cafeteria. Long tables ran down the length of the building. On one end was the kitchen area.
"This is where the pack eats." Emilian explained. "You hungry?"
"No."
"Right then." Guiding him out, he steered Bobby back out into the courtyard. "I know this is a lot to take in, but there are things we need to discuss."
"Like?"
Emilian, pulled out a ring from his pocket. "Belonged to our alpha." He handed it over to Bobby. "Only to be worn by the next alpha."
The ring was of an open mouth wolf, with a white pearl in its mouth. "Belonged? What happened to him?"
"He was ambushed and killed." Emilian stated. "You stopped them actually. That night, you came to the aid of your alpha and pack."
Bobby glanced back at the ring, running his thumb over it. "I am sorry." Handing him the ring back, he frowned at Emilian stepping back. "Take it."
"It's not for me."
"Well, it's not mine."
Grabbing his hand and wrapping it around the ring, he nodded. "Yes, it is."
"Now I know this is a joke." Bobby scoffed/laughed. "Take it back."
"Listen Nash." Emilian growled. "Our alpha has had his eyes set on you for years. Ever since you risked your life to save him in a fire years ago."
Bobby shook his head. "That's my job. I save people. And so do the many other firefighters."
"That may be true, but none risked losing their lives to both bullets and fire for one man." Emilian stated. "You knew going back in for him was suicidal."
"You're talking about the shoot-out in the museum?" Bobby exhaled.
"Yes." Stepping back, he chuckled to himself. "I remember the excitement he came back with that day. Here we were all worried about him and all he can talk about is, having found the next alpha. Of course, he failed to mention you were a human and would need training."
Bobby shook his head. "I can't."
"It's not an option Nash." Emilian snapped.
Bobby placed the ring on a table, stepping back. "I am sorry, but this isn't my world. I am not made for this."
"You think you have a choice now?!" Emilian yelled. "Every pack in the states knows who and what you are. You will be hunted down! Rival packs will hunt you down. Destroying you before coming for us."
"I have a family. Wife and kids." Bobby said. "I am not risking them for some fantasy. You take over and leave me out of it." Turning his back on a seething wolf Man, he walked away. Before he could get too far, Bobby was pushed to the ground. Shaking his head clear, he froze at hearing a low growl over him. The animal wrapped its teeth over the back of his neck apply some pressure.
Something inside Bobby began to boil. A rage he didn't know he had. Before he could control what he was doing, he growled out at the change in his body. Shoving the wolf off his back, he yelped at the skin being ripping from his neck. Looking down at himself he nearly staggered back at seeing paws. He was a fucken wolf! The growls in front of him pulled Bobby back to the present. That rage from before began rising once more. With no control over his own body, he ran forward. Slamming into the grey wolf, they tumbled around in the dirt. Bobby bit and clawed at whatever he could get ahold of. It wasn't long before he stood over the fallen wolf.
The pack stood around, waiting for the cloud of dirt to clear up. To their surprise, the new wolf stood over Emilian in a clear sign of victory.
Bobby stepped back, glancing down at him. "It's still a no. This isn't my world."
Emilian laid on his side. His stomach rose and fell in rapid breaths. "It will be. When you come to terms, we will be here."
Time jump:
Bobby couldn't remember where he was going or how fast he was going. He just needed to get away. He needed space away from everything and everyone. Speeding down the lone two-way lanes, he came to a screeching halt. Just a few feet from his car stood a large brown wolf.
It didn't move, only stared at Bobby. On the side of the road appeared four little pups. Getting a slight nod from the wolf, they ran across the road and disappeared into the woods. To his surprise, the wolf gave him a slight bow, before going off after the pups. Leaning back with a heavy sigh, he closed his eyes.
"What am I supposed to do?" He whispered. "I am not one of them. I don't belong to their world." The ringing of his phone caused him to jump slightly. "Nash."
"How's my man?"
"Tired."
"Oh? I thought you had the day off?"
Bobby sighed. "I do, but had to handle a few things. Anyway, what ups?"
"Micheal, his fiancé, and Hen are coming over for dinner. Can you pick up the wine please?"
"Sure, I'll be there in a few." Giving her a quick love you, Bobby took off once more.
Pulling into the parking lot of a store, he jogged in. Grabbing two bottles of wine, Bobby reached into his pocket for the cash only to pull out a ring. Seeing the wolf, he growled lowly. Emilian must have slipped it over to him. Shoving it back into his pocket, and paying he failed to notice the two males eying him. Walking back towards his car, he paused at the smell he caught on to.
The scent took him back to that night. The smell of blood, dirt, and something rotten. Turning his head slightly to the left, he picked up on low whispers.
'You sure that's him?'
'Positive, he reeks of Emilian.'
Bobby opened the passenger door, placing the items safely on the passenger seat. No point in risking the bottle from breaking. Athena would never let him hear the end of it. Taking in a deep breath, he spun around facing the two males. "Can I help you gentleman?" A sly smirk appeared on his lips, at seeing the look of shock flash in their eyes.
The tallest of the two stepped forward with a growl. "You killed someone very close to us."
"Who might that be?" That earned him a mutual growl from both. "You might have the wrong guy."
"No." The shortest hissed. "That scent is unforgettable."
Taking a few steps towards him, Nash contemplated his next moves. If he was quick enough he might be able to drive off. If not he'd have to fight his way out. Seeing the flash of eyes a spur of rage flowed through him. Getting a solid footing on the ground, he eyed the two.
