Dr Freeman, I do hate to pull you out of a delicate situation like this… But my employers have asked me to assign you to a new job…

Ms Vance and her now late father have things under control… For now, I'll send you the HEV suit and some… Instructions…

Prevent this world from destroying itself…

Wake up Dr Freeman,

And Smell the LCL…

Gordon awoke to the sound of an airplane intercom ding. He looked around to see himself on a crowded airline flight with primarily asian people.

He looked out the window to see the ocean and some military ships floating about.

A letter was in his hand that he carefully opened, noting the scars on his hands.

Open this when you have landed.

Was all it said…

His benefactor took great care to make sure he did his job right.

He took more glances at the scars on his hands and the clothes he wore. It was his old MIT college shirt and some cargo shorts from before the Black Mesa Incident.

". . ."

He said, noting the soon approaching land.

He took a moment to steel himself as he rarely ever got time to relax or sleep.

Ping

"Good afternoon, We are on final approach to Tokyo-III International. It's currently 31 degrees Celsius and 89 degrees Fahrenheit and winds are breezy yet not overwhelming. Cabin crew please prepare for landing."

The pilot then made the same announcement in Japanese, which Gordon was somewhat familiar with when he was in college, but can understand it fully to what he guessed was the work of him again.

Gordon hadn't had a plane flight in what felt like forever. He thought about all the possible things that could go wrong about this landing.

". . . ?"

". . ."

". . . ?"

Gordon then brushed it off and tried to calm himself down, that nothing serious would happen.

He felt around his pockets for anything that might distract him when he pulled out a cell phone. He then suddenly, without even seeing this phone before, gained the knowledge on how to use it. He also found an ID card with the same photo he had at Black Mesa. The ID card was for a place called NERV. A bridge crew operator and Biohazard Specialist.

". . ."

He thought, Knowing that again, his Benefactor takes great pride in making sure Gordon stays prepared, Or at least able to do the task…

Gordon waited for landing as the plane banked and turned for the final approach. He could hear the landing gear extend and lock into place.

". . ."

He commented, Looking out to see towering shiny skyscrapers scattered around the city below. Solar towers sat at the edges of the city and trains ran throughout it like a network of snakes.

The plane descended lower and lower until the airport was visible. A crowded area filled with airplanes and the scuttering ground crew. making sure everything gets done on time.

The aircraft then made a touchdown as the engines began to roar as it started reverse thrust. The cabin shook and vibrated as the plane slowed down.

". . ."

Gordon said, as this part of air travel always made him nervous. He felt the airplane slow down and sighed a breath of relief.

But he wouldn't let his guard down, He had no idea what the Benefactor meant about preventing this world from destroying itself. Would he have to face another Black Mesa Incident? Gordon began to have Deja Vu, like he had been in this situation before; but quickly shrugged it off as nothing more than anxiety.

The plan began to taxi off the runway and the pilot made another announcement.

"Welcome to Tokyo-III, Today is February 19th 2015, 14:42 PM JST. For new NERV Employees please exit to the main hall and a special line train will take you to your destination."

Again the pilot made the same announcement in Japanese.

The plane made a complete stop at the terminal and allowed everyone to begin getting up.

He tried to remember what his luggage looked like as he got up. When he looked in the overhead compartment it was his old luggage case from before the Black Mesa Incident.

". . ."

He said, noting that everything he owned so far, was from before the Black Mesa Incident. Guess his Benefactor has the ability to get stuff from before and give it to him.

As he left the plane, he noticed the terminal was extremely crowded, a mixture of normal people and people in tan uniform milling about. He made his way through the large crowd and went to the baggage claim, where he grabbed his old suitcase from the belt and made his way to the train line.

As he walked, a hand tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to see who it was.

A young woman, possibly early twenties, looked up at him with a smile.

"Are you, Dr Freeman?"

She asked.

". . ."

He replied, wondering how she knows who he is.

"I'm Lieutenant Maya Ibuki, I'm part of the Bridge crew operators and was sent to pick you up."

She held up her ID card and Gordon studied it. I looked the exact same as his, except she had a higher clearance.

". . . ?"

He asked, unsure of what he will be doing at this NERV place.

"I'll tell you more once we get in the car."

Maya said, gesturing for him to follow her. He gladly followed her to her car in the parking lot.

". . . ?"

He asked, Unsure of the answer.

"I'm not sure, you'll have to speak to either Captain Katsuragi or Dr Akagi about that. They are our superiors."

Maya opened the car and let Gordon in, allowing him to sit rather uncomfortably in the small car, he was rather a tall man.

"Alright, next stop, the NERV GeoFront!"

The ride through Tokyo-III was breathtaking to Gordon. The city was beautiful and a technological wonder. Maya said that the city itself was controlled by three autonomous supercomputers charged with monitoring and controlling the city.

Gordon found himself in awe at the technological advances this world has made.

He then remembered about the letter he had from his Benefactor and pulled it out.

This world suffered a great catastrophe 15 years ago called the Second Impact, a meteor traveling a quarter the speed of light struck the south pole, vaporizing it along with the rest of Antarctica. This was the official story of course. You will find in the following pages your background information and information about this world and its key players in it.

Good luck

-Your Benefactor

Gordon skimmed through the pages to see that he wasn't lying, The politics of the world was in here, probably so he would not be outed as an imposter.

"Whatcha got there?"

Asked Maya, her eyes still on the road.

". . ."

"Ah, I see, can't forget those!"

Gordon noticed that the car was heading into a mountain tunnel, with NERV's Logo on the walls.

". . . ?"

Gordon asked, wanting to hear what Maya had to say about this.

"Our job is… Essentially to protect the world from these creatures that are coming soon. We have the whole UN backing us up and multiple companies supplying us, So this should be easy!"

Gordon nodded understanding a bit more about his whole situation.

The car entered the long tunnel until it reached a checkpoint. Maya handed her ID card to the security guard and he scanned it, then handing it back. He then asked for Gordon's ID card, to which he complied and handed it over.

"New Bridge crew? Seems like we are getting hundreds of new staff each day…"

The guard handed it back and opened the gate allowing Maya to go through.

Maya then parked the can on a tram of some sorts, and locked into place.

Once a few more cars parked, the Tram began to move downwards.

". . . ?"

Gordon asked, Wondering where the tram was heading to at such a high speed.

"You'll see… Just a few kilometers left…"

Maya said, causing Gordon to ponder what that ment until a blinding light shined though the window. He turned to see a huge cavern. Below sat a large lake and scattered forests. And above was the slots for the skyscrapers sitting about ground.

". . . !"

Gordon exclaimed, impressed at the sheer size and wonder this place had. This was truly a Nerd's Garden of Eden!

"I still get chills every time I see this. Reminds me of how far we got in technology. Makes me proud to be a human sometimes.

". . ."

Gordon agreed, remembering his past experiences in the old world. He was proud to be a human, but it was still very stressful.

The Incident was still fresh in his mind, He hadn't even aged a week since then and now he was fighting another war he had no real say in.

The tram reached its destination and Maya put the car in drive. Then the Car drove out and headed for thr nearest parking lot, parking and letting Gordon step out, stretch his legs and yawn.

". . ."

Gordon mentioned as he got his bags from the car.

"Yeah its a long ride, but your needs are usually catered to down here during the day, We have a rec center and large cafeteria if you need. It will be by your dorm rooms."

Ah yes, the dorm rooms. He remembered his time in College and in the Black Mesa dorms.

She gestured for him to follow her and he promptly did. Following her through the long winding halls and tall escalators, eventually reaching the NERV Staff Dormitories.

They stopped infront of a door with the designation: B612. He opened the door to reveal a pleasent looking studio dorm room.

"Here you are, Your very own room! Cafeteria is open 24/7, The Phone numbers are next to the phone. and your papers should be in a folder on the table."

". . ."

Maya smiled and nodded.

"Of course! Welcome to NERV: God's in his heaven, and all is right with the world!"

She said, letting him close the door behind her.

He breathed in and breathed out.

He promptly passed out from mental exhaustion.
