Operation Wyrm Part IV: Killing Zone
Ryan deflected a 155mm shell with his shoulder shield, leaving a large scratch where the shell hit. Another Zaku wasn't so lucky, getting hit in the backpack, the Zaku proceeded to explode.
"Keep moving forward!" Ryan reached the cusp of the hill along with Alma, Zero, Heinrich, Johnny, the other Quad-Stars before proceeding to slide down.
As Ryan slid down the hill with his Zaku, he looked around before realizing:
'Wait…isn't this…!'
1. "Enemy within range!" Barberry yelled,
"Hold…" Rose ordered,
Without warning, the lead Zaku's monoeye flashed, and as it stood up, it immediately looked into the treeline, ran forward and opened fire.
"The enemy has opened fire!"
"Fire!" Rose yelled
As Ryan began to charge the enemy, several missiles emerged from the treeline, however, Ryan managed to rocket backwards and dodged all of them.
"Special Anti-MS weapons?!" Marion said incredulously.
"Shit! We were herded here!" Ridden stumbled into a crouching position, and opened fire on the treeline as well.
"They're in the trees!" Arlette shouted.
The 300th Newtype Corps backed up onto the hill, out of reach of the Regina rockets.
1- "They know we have Anti-MS weapons! 301st Tank Squadron! 01st MS Team! Charge!" Rose finally stood up, revealing herself.
Lilith and the others did so next as the Type 61s charged out of the trees. Firing their 155mm cannons, they approached the beleaguered MS Corps.
"Don't let those bastards get away! Take the fight to them!" Helios shouted, activating his thrusters, he moved into Flight Mode and charged at one of the mobile suits on the hill. Tackling it.
"Richard!" A Zaku pilot shouted as a Zaku was tackled and promptly run through with a beam saber by a Sky-Type Gundam.
'This…was my vision! If I had kept us all together…' Ryan shook his head, and refocused on the task at hand.
Ryan raised his Heat Hawk just in time to block a slash from the Golden Gundam, before kicking it away from him.
In response, the Golden Gundam aimed it's beam rifle hand down at him and fired, forcing him to leap to the side to dodge.
"Everyone! Get off the hill and make a break for the mountains!" Ryan ordered suddenly,
"Thank god!" Alma said in desperate relief, slicing at a captured Zaku that had made it's way onto the hill.
As the Type 61s shelled the hill with their 155mm cannons, Rose continued to engage the Black Knight's Zaku.
'I'll take you down, if nothing else!' Rose thought, flying above him, she fired her head vulcans down at him, which he blocked with his shield before returning fire with his own 120mm machine gun, forcing her to dodge mid-air.
"Eat this!" She shouted, firing her underwing bazookas, the Zaku dodged between the missiles before proceeding to rocket backwards and slide down the hill.
"They're trying to escape! Don't let them!" Rose shouted,
"Right!" Lilith rushed forward with her twin beam spear, twirling it, she clashed with a Zaku who quickly raised its heat sword to counter it.
"I'll defeat you, Zeon!" Lilith shouted, now lost in the fight - much to the dismay of Rose.
'Some things just won't change…' Rose sighed.
"I'll defeat you, Zeon!"
The words echoed in Alma's head as she forced the Gundam's twin beam spear away from herself.
"Get out of here!" Alma screamed, gripping her heat sword with both hands, she rushed forward and went in for an overhead swing, only for it to be blocked with the beam saber.
"Alma! Don't let them bog you down!" Ryan shouted, firing his machine gun at Lilith, he forced her to dodge the bullets, providing Alma with an opening to scramble off the hill.
Without warning, however, the red-painted Gundam launched forward and threw it's beam spear before drawing a Beam saber and rushing straight at Ryan, who barely managed to deflect it upwards with his Heat Hawk.
'Is this pilot insane?!' Ryan wondered as he clashed with the enemy's beam saber when suddenly the Golden Gundam cut in with a shot from it's beam rifle.
"Will you piss off already!?" Ryan yelled, grabbing a 120mm machine gun from a fallen Zaku, he proceeded to duel-wield the two weapons. With one, he forced the Golden Gundam to stay in the air and at a distance, with the other he engaged the red Sky-Type.
'Damn it! I can't keep this up!' Ryan thought to himself. The Golden Gundam was dodging all his bullets, and he could tell it was simply waiting for its partner to wear him down with the sheer ferocity of attacks before moving in for the kill.
"Ryan!" Gaia suddenly shouted, and Ryan gasped as his MS-06J Zaku II leapt at the Red Gundam, heat hawk drawn, and forced it to step away from Ryan.
"You alright?" Ortega slid up beside him, and Mash fired several shots from bazooka at the Golden Gundam.
"I am now. The enemy is trying to surround us and create a killing zone on top of this hill-" Ryan quickly placed his shield up to block a 155mm shell from a Type 61.
"...and it's working!" Gaia growled, "If we don't get out of this area soon, nothings going to be left of us but scrap metal."
"Agreed." Ryan nodded, "We should concentrate our efforts on one corridor and mitigate their advantage over us."
"Right!" The other Quad-Stars nodded.
"Damn it!" Lilith swore as the Zaku slashed at her, forcing her to hastily fly backwards.
"Lilith!" Rose landed next to her, "Stick with me!"
Lilith didn't respond, but instead twirled her twin beam spear around, transforming it into it's scythe configuration and rushed forward.
"I swear…she's going to be the death of me…!" Rose groaned before following her, drawing her beam saber in the process.
Simultaneously, two of the Zaku's did the same, and the pairs smashed against each other.
The leading Zaku the two of them were originally battling went directly for Rose. Drawing his heat hawk, he blocked her first slash with a beam saber before going in for a strike at her cockpit, which she barely managed to fly backwards and avoid.
Lilith twirled her beam spear and brought it down for a straight vertical slash on the other Zaku, only to be blocked by it's own heat hawk. The Zaku then proceeded to kick her backwards, causing her mobile suit to stumble, only to follow it up with a hail of bullets from a machine gun held in it's left hand.
"Damn you!" Lilith raged, holding her spear like a pike, she flew forward at him in an attempt to stab through his cockpit.
"Lilith, wait!" Rose called, and Lilith received the warning just in time to back away from a bazooka shot.
"Gaia!" Marion called,
"Marion!" Gaia said relievedly, "Thank you, we need to go! Ryan!" Gaia turned to him.
"Right!" Ryan nodded.
"S-Mines!" They called out simultaneously, and immediately, small canisters burst from their Zakus, leaving small trails of smoke before they exploded mid-air.
The two Gundams fell back, covering their sensors in order to prevent damage to them, but in doing so, allowed the two Zaku's who remained to hold the line to retreat. 1x
"Damn you!" Lilith screamed, with the S-Mine barrage finished, and the smoke clearing, Lilith prepared to go after them.
"No!" Rose grabbed her Sky-Type Gundams arm.
"We had them!" Lilith yelled,
"And we still do." Rose said calmly, "I chose the Gurktal Alps for a reason. They may have escaped from here, but they're still within the pocket, and so long as they are, we'll hunt them down."
Lilith looked conflicted, but finally relented, stowing away her beam saber.
"01st MS Team - report!" Rose called out, seeing Lilith has calmed down.
"We got about 12 of their mobile suits. The rest of them escaped." Helios reported,
"I got some good news, Commander." Jonathan mentioned, "The 43rd and 45th Mechanized Composite Divisions are reporting complete wipe-outs to the South. The 46th is advancing to push back the enemy tank and infantry divisions."
"Good." Rose nodded,
'This is where it ends…Black Knight.'
"What is it looking like?" Ryan asked,
"We took casualties. Mostly among the regulars, but…we lost several people as well. Wen-Li and Troja perished." Char explained and Ryan nodded.
"Where…even are we?" Marion asked,
"We're deep in the Alpine Mountains. To be specific - we're in an area known as the Gurktal Alps."
"Mountains, huh?" Gaia nodded, "No wonder they wanted this to be here. We have limited mobility in areas like this."
"But also more places to hide." Ryan countered, he raised his voice to speak to the entire unit.
"We can't afford to take the enemy head on right now. And we're undoubtedly being hunted as the pocket grows tighter and tighter. Our plan right now needs to be to establish contact with High Command and make our way closer to our own lines without being spotted." Ryan explained, "Seven, do you think you can handle getting through to Yuri?"
"If we were a little further South, I probably could." Seven sighed, "But I'll try from here!"
Ryan nodded, "Right now, we should find a place to stop and make camp. We can't do anything in our current condition, and night is falling."
Z.E.A.F Dabude, Odessa
"What!?" M'Quve said with barely contained rage, "And you see it fit to tell me about this now?!"
Despite the voice being obscured with a voice changer, fear clearly leaked through in the other party's words. "I apologize, but we were all under surveillance and-"
"And that enables you to allow false information to permeate our ranks and guide us right into an enemy trap?" M'Quve snarled,
"...No sir." The voice said meekly,
"Listen. I want constant status updates. I want to know everything that goes on in that pocket. Nothing is to escape my notice, is that clear?!"
"...Yes, General." The voice said respectfully but fearfully before disconnecting.
"Sir." Uragang approached General M'Quve, "Admiral Kellerne wishes to speak with you."
"..." M'Quve was silent at first, but finally spoke: "Patch him through."
Immediately, Yuri Kellerne was on the warpath, rank difference be damned.
"General! Is it true that my men have been led into a trap!?" Yuri practically yelled,
M'Quve didn't bother reprimanding him for his rudeness, but got to the point: "Yes. We were fooled. There was no offensive into Poland."
"How did such a thing evade our notice?! Don't we have competent spies of any sort?!" Yuri shouted,
"I wish I knew Rear Admiral. However, I have a plan to correct this mistake of ours…"
Side 3 - Zeon, Extra Banchi
"Are you sure?" Special Operations Captain Monique Cadillac questioned,
"It's an order directly from Lady Kycilia Zabi herself." Major General Albert Schnact explained from his desk, "The field testing of the YMT-05 Hildolfr will be relocated to the Alpine Mountains as part of an irregular unit with the task of rescuing Admiral Kellerne's mobile suit forces."
"The Alpine Mountains?!" Oliver May - previously silent throughout the conversation - interjected, "Something like the Hildolfr isn't meant to be used on such terrain-"
"I have confidence in the skills of the Lieutenant Commander," Maj. General Schnact cut her off suddenly with those words and a silencing glare.
'A wash-out like him…!' Monique snarked in her head, but said nothing.
"Am I clear, Special Operations Captain? Engineering Lieutenant?" Schnact questioned,
The two members of the 603rd Technical Division gave stiff salutes.
"Understood! The 603rd Technical Division…will depart to participate in the relief of Admiral Kellerne's forces!"
