Operation Wyrm Part IX (Arc Finale): Rage and Grief
"I'm going…TO BE WHAT EVERYONE NEEDS!" Rose roared, "Lilith! On me! We're taking down that mobile tank! Everyone else needs to regroup and stop them from leaving!"
"Right! I'll follow your orders Commander!" Kayla nodded, "Besides…these bastards need to pay for making my sisters hurt!"
"Lets do this!" Rose nodded, charging right at one of the Midnight Fenrir's mobile suits.
"You heard the woman!" Herman Yandell yelled out to his tankers, "Charge!"
Rose moved forward, dropping kicking a Zaku and running through from the top of its head with a Beam Saber.
'Don't stop…keep moving forward!'
"Commander! The enemy is regrouping!" Seven alerted,
"Sonnen! They're focusing on our right flank! Intercept them!" Ryan ordered,
"The Hildolfr isn't a close combat mobile suit!" Monique argued,
"If the Hildolfr was what people said it was, then I wouldn't be here!" Sonnen shifted gears and charged straight at the enemy.
1. "The Mobile Tank type is coming straight towards us!" Lon Kou shouted,
"Good! Let's put this bastard in a pack!" Kayla snarled,
"Wait! Kayla!" Rose followed after her, "Engage with caution! We don't know its full capabilities yet!"
But Kayla had already rushed ahead, barely noticing the activation of smoke canister launchers on the side of its cockpit.
'Smoke grenades?!' She thought in a panic as six of them fired off, crowding the area with pink smoke.
'Can't…see anything!' Kayla thought in a panic, but unbeknownst to her, a Zaku lept up from behind her, heat hawk in hand.
"KAYLA!" Rose screamed, and Kayla barely had time to move as the heat hawk tore into her cockpit.
Doan sliced through the cockpit of a Gundam Sky-Type right as the smoke began to clear, in front of him, Sonnen point-blanked an APHE round into a Semovente Zaku.
Doan took brief notice of the exposed cockpit and the pilot inside, 'A woman…is she still alive?' he wondered,
"Captain…are you alright?" Egba asked,
"I'm fine," He said, shaking his head, he moved to engage the remaining Federation MS…
"I'm on him!" Stuart shouted, "He won't get away!"
"Good! Stay on him-" Rose began as Federation mobile suits surrounded the tank, but suddenly an image flashed before her eyes:
Rose was somehow viewing the Hildolfr through the remaining smoke with a red haze. Gears and parts began whirring as it transformed to have the upper body reminiscent of an MS.
As it activated, its pink mono-eye focused on an approaching Semovente Zaku…
1- "No! Get out of there!" Rose yelled suddenly, "We're being lured in!"
"Huh?" Stuart paused, and turned to face the Hildolfr as it finished its MS transformation.
"What?! It transforms too?!" Stuart said in surprise as it pulled out an 105mm machine gun.
"Move!" Rose screamed, but it was too late, 105mm shells took out his legs and sensor.
With surprising agility, it whirled around and blasted an APFSDS shell into another Semovente Zaku, breaking the encirclement.
1- As it started forward, it charged towards a formation of Type 61s harrasing the Zeon mobile suit.
'Yandell's unit!' Rose realized, "Lieutenant! He's heading straight for you!"
"I see him!" Yandell grinned, 'I'll have some fun taking you down!'
"Oi! Driver!" Yandell shouted,
"You want us to rush straight at it?!" Surat asked incredulously,
"It's us or them!" Yandell said dismissively, and Surat sighed before following his orders.
The tank fired one 300mm shell, forcing the Type 61 to swerve to dodge it, in response, the tank fired both of its 155mm cannons, one glancing off its side armor and the other missing entirely.
Both opponents switched to their secondary weapons, the Type 61 switched to its wide assortment of machine guns, firing all three simultenously while the Hildolfr began firing its 105mm.
"Turn! Drift around it!" Yandell shouted, and Surat hastily cranked the wheel to swerve around to face the Hildolfr's side.
"FIRE!" Hermann shouted, and as he clicked the button, both 155mm cannons fired straight into the side of the Hildolfr, one leaving a glowing penetration hole in its side armor, but the other tore through its machine gun arm, leaving a glowing hole in its joint.
"Move!" Hermann ordered, and the Sergeant proceeded to drive out right as the Hildolfr faced its 300mm towards them.
Without warning, Hermann suddenly shouted out:
"Dodge! Now!"
Surat barely managed to drive out of the way as 120mm shells rained down on the area they were seconds prior.
"Its him…" Herman gripped the trigger,
"The White Ogre!"
"I missed…" Captain Elmer Snell held a smoking 120mm machine gun, "Major, I'll handle the enemy vehicles." He reloaded his 120mm as he said the next words.
"I trust you can handle the mobile suits."
"Understood, Captain." Sonnen nodded, grabbing a 120mm lying in the ground with his left and only remaining hand. He drove straight at the remaining Federation MS.
'I've finally found him…' Snell thought to himself, 'The enemy that will change my destiny…is right in front of me!'
The two stared each other down, then finally, they both moved forward.
1- Snell emptied his magazine, running forward and firing at the Type 61, which was accurately dodging most of his shots.
Yandell, however, was not having any luck either. He rapidly loaded and lobbed 155mm shells at his rival, only for them to miss or for Snell to dodge.
"We're going to be crushed!" Surat complained,
"Just keep moving forward!" Yandell shouted, 'Ogre…I'll end this here and now!'
As the Type 61 closed in, Yandell suddenly yelled: "Bank left!"
Surat rushed to do so, right as the Zaku was about to step right over them, Yandell fired off his smoke grenades right at its feet, clouding the surrounding area in white smoke.
"…Smoke huh?" Snell reloaded, 'My final magazine…' He'd almost forgotten he'd used it all up in earlier fighting.
His MS-06JS's mono-eye rapidly moved through the smoke, looking for any hint of movement.
'I am waiting…' Snell thought impatiently, finally, as the smoke cleared. He saw it:
'There!' Snell levelled his 120mm right at the Type 61 behind him, tearing into it with 120mm machine gun fire, moving forward as he pumped round after round into the tank. Ensuring the crew inside was torn apart.
Once the smoke cleared, Snell looked down at his opponent.
"Is that it…?" He questioned, this was the only Type 61 here, all the others were either occupied elsewhere or had been destroyed, and if he could recall, he was engaging a platoon sized group.
Suddenly, he felt a ping at the back of his head.
"What?!" He whirled around, and right as he turned, a 155mm shell ripped through his chest, but missed his cockpit.
The second didn't. 1x
"Sorry about that…we're an irregular unit…we have 9 tanks." Yandell said on a public communications channel, already knowing his rival couldn't hear him.
"Is…it over?" Surat asked.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Rose shouted to Yandell, "You should've disengaged!"
"Lieutenant Commander…can you see him?" Yandell asked,
"See who?" Rose asked in confusion.
"The Death God on my back, can you see him?" Yandell asked again.
Rose remained silent, and Yandell sighed and quietly chuckled to himself: "Forget about it, I'll regroup with you right now."
'With this…I'll have no more Death God now! I'm finally free!'
"Captain Snell…was taken out." Seven said in quiet shock.
Sonnen tch'ed "Federation bastards…!" Sonnen swung his 300mm gun into the side of a RRF-06 Zanny, knocking it down before utilizing a scattershell at close range to finish it off.
However, it was then he realized something else.
'My track! It's caught!' He thought instantly, sure enough, when he moved forward, he'd gotten stuck on the Zanny's long-barreled 120mm.
"Crap!" He swerved his mono-eye, taking note of the other mobile suits rapidly closing in with beam sabers and heat hawks.
Thinking quickly, he fired off a singular shot with his main cannon, producing enough recoil to throw him off the Zanny, and once again use his main cannon as a blunt weapon to knock a Ground-Type aside, where a stray bazooka shot proceeded to take it out.
Without warning, however, he was bodied from the side by none other than the Golden Gundam.
"How long are you going to stay up?!" He shouted in frustration, slamming into it with one of his shovel arms.
Rose grunted in her cockpit, the impact knocking her to the side.
"I'm not dead just cause you threw a little oil at me!" Rose snarled back, "It's time I sent you back to Zeon like you should be - In a casket!"
Rose raised her work arm, and ignited the Beam saber, but Sonnen caught her first, raising a shovel arm, he brought it down hard on her remaining work arm, crushing the beam saber inside.
"Fine!" Rose lit up the Hildolfr with her vulcans, pouring round after round into it to no avail.
Without warning, the Hildolfr rapidly turned, knocking the Gundam off its feet as it pulled a 360 in the dirt.
'No!' Rose thought, with no other weapons besides her vulcans, Rose's Gundam was practically helpless.
'It's over…' Sonnen thought, levelling the 300mm round right at her head, the explosion and shrapnel would surely travel through the mobile suit and kill the pilot.
Federico grappled with the enemy mobile suit. Both were tired, and lacked any weapons aside from their hands.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the Hildolfr on the verge of finishing the Gundam off, which was empting its Vulcans onto its armor.
Steeling his resolve, Federico looked around, spotting a disabled Zanny with a long-barrelled 120mm cannon.
Without warning and to Ridden's surprise, Federico ducked under the enemy Zaku and dived for the 120mm, but rather than aiming at his opponent, he aimed for the Hildolfr's cockpit instead.
'One shot…' He thought to himself
"One shot is more than enough to deal with you!" He shouted, squeezing the trigger.
The shot didn't miss.
Federico sighed as the Hildolfr went slack, he reclined in his seat and looked up as a Heat Hawk wiped him away in a flash of light.
Alma cut through the mobile suit, but it was too late, the smoking 120mm fell to the side as Alma looked behind her in horror.
"Sonnen…san." Alma said in quiet disbelief, as the Golden Gundam got up and began walking towards her, firing its vulcans, Alma had no choice but to cover her MS with its hands.
"Alma, get out of there!" Ryan shouted, and Alma tried, but without warning, her joints creaked and failed.
'Why now?!' She screamed internally, desperately clicking at her controls, all while the Gundam emptied magazines into her exposed back.
As it closed the distance, it stepped on her back, pushing her down into the ground.
'Is this it…?' She wondered, and then as her head slammed into the dashboard she had a second thought before she went unconscious.
'Strange…it feels like big brother…'
Rose stomped on the Zaku's back. Having no weapons left, she had no choice but to continually step on it.
Over.
And over.
And over.
"I'm going to kill you." Rose said coldly, raising her foot one last time to crush to cockpit completely through the backpack.
Then, without warning, light ripped through her backpack and mobile suit, completely disabling it.
'He wasn't dead…!?' Rose thought as the ground rushed up at her through the screen and everythingwent black.
2. The fatally injured Sonnen hacked into his hand.
"Heh…all I needed was one shot…" He stared at the metal case of opiods in his hand…
And promptly discarded them.
'I won't be needing those…'
"Major Sonnen!" Oliver May called out desperately,
"Major!" Seven tried,
"Is he responding?!" Ryan asked from his limping mobile suit.
Seven pursed her lips in telling silence, until finally, over a public channel:
"Hildolfr…I can…still fight." Sonnen gasped out,
"Sonnen?! Major Sonnen?!" Ryan asked desperately, but suddenly, a gentle cold washed over him as the communication went dead.
"...I think the Major is dead…" Marion finished,
Ryan nodded sadly.
Oliver stared blankly at the communications, before stating: "I don't think…a soldier beyond his prime…is worse than a stray."
"Maybe not…" Monique said in tearful frustration, "But one who dies is even worse…"

Despite the efforts of the Federation Forces, a few of the encircled Zeon defenders in the Gurktal Alps managed to escape due to the efforts of the various earth-based units of the Zeon Mobile Assault Force. Despite this, the battle was an overwhelming victory for the Federation forces, devestating MS units in the Southern European region, and paving the way for an offensive into the Balkan Region and Italian Peninsula.
The YMT-05 Hildolfr would be re-evaluated following the battle, and despite admissions of its validity as a mass-production unit, would ultimately never see production during the One Year War. Despite this, not only would its parts and weaponry see service as the MS-06KS Dom Gnomindes, but nearly 24 years later, this sad wolf would see its spirit reincarnated as both OMT-05RF RF Hildolfr, and would see combat under the Nouvelle AEUG during the Great Terra War.
On the Federations side of the battle, despite the overwhelming victory they carried, for some, it came at a very high price. The Semovente Corps, one of the most experienced mobile suit units of the Federation, experienced a complete wipeout, while the 01st Mobile Suit Team lost half of its force, with only seven of its pilots ever returning to service…
