Remus laid in his bed in the Hospital Wing's secret ward. He wasn't as injured as he usually was after a transformation, however instead of that being a good thing, it filled him with fear and dread.

There had been a lightning storm the week before the month's full moon, and James used that to complete his Animagi transformation. He was a large stag, completely capable of holding down a werewolf during a full moon. "Prongs", as he was newly dubbed, used that week between the lightning storm and the full moon to train himself. To make sure he got the hang of his transformation before joining Moony in the Shrieking Shack.

Remus didn't remember much of that night, since he was never in control of his transformations, all he knew was that James would risk his life to be with him while Sirius stuck a mandrake leaf in his mouth that would stay there until the next full moon. When poor Remus woke up, he was laying on top of a large bleeding stag. He knew he had hurt his friend, and that he had seen the horror of a werewolf firsthand. There was no way James would still want to be his friend now.

And if James wasn't his friend, then Sirius and Peter would follow. He'd loose the only friends he'd ever had, and would never make new ones.

"Good, you're awake." A familiar voice said, it sounded as if it was coming near the bed. Remus looked around, and saw James poke his head underneath his family's invisibility cloak. The messy haired boy looked happy to see him, the exact opposite of what Remus expected.

"James?" Remus asked in shock.

"Hello." James replied with a wave, causing the cloak to nearly fall off. Luckily, it was caught in time.

"What are you doing here?"

"Came to check up on you." James nonchalantly answered, "Following Madame Pomphrey is easy."

Remus shook his head. Of course.

James reached into his pocket and handed Remus a chocolate bar, American, by the looks of it. "Thought you might need this."

"You don't hate me?" Remus croaked, touched by his friend's actions.

James looked puzzled and hurt, "Hate you? Remus, why would I hate a kind a kind and compassionate man like you?"

"But-but I'm dangerous!" Remus blurted out, barely able to comprehend why James was so determined to stay his friend.

"Remus!" James sternly interjected, silencing his friend. He softened as he continued, "You're not a monster! You're just suffering a chronic disease you have no control over." He grabbed the scarred boy's hand and gently said, "Yes, last night was scary. Yes, I did get hurt. But it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. And now I know how to better help you next month." He forced Remus to look into his eyes, "I promise you, as long as I'm alive, you'll never have to worry about being alone or having money. I can afford it."

Remus could hardly believe his ears. Was, was this really happening?

James continued, "I'm your friend. Friends help each other, they don't abandon them when the going gets tough. You shouldn't hate yourself over something you can't control. We know you can't control your transformations, it's nothing to be ashamed about."

Remus's eyes became shiny. No one had ever said such kind words to him. Sure his parents made him feel loved, but they also stressed how dangerous he could be. They saw him as their sweet little boy who had a dangerous side.

Yet, here, in this hospital wing, arrogant, rich, and spoiled James Potter who bullied Severus Snape and the elitists to no end, was being a kind and understanding friend who didn't view him as dangerous in the least. Indeed, if you were to only see this moment, you would think that James Potter was the least arrogant and spoiled person in the world.

Remus threw his arms around his friend and hugged him tight, tears of joy streaming down his face.

James smiled, and hugged him back. With the utmost gentleness, he stroked his back and sandy-blonde hair in a comforting manner.
