"Tetsuya's watching Suzume outside," Chiaki advised Neji as she gave him the last dish, he dried it and returned it to the cabinet before closing the door.
"That so? Hmm, so then-" He trailed off looking at her as he leaned in. She leaned up towards him, brushing her lips against his. They'd take light make out sessions whenever the opportunity came up, which with two active kids and the sleeping arrangement wasn't every day.
Suddenly there was a shrill shriek from outside. Chiaki pulled away from Neji and hurried in the direction the shriek had come from, Neji was ahead of her and left the house, locating the two kids who were standing in awe at the sky.
He observed both of them, neither seemed injured. Sill he cast his gaze skyward and inquired, "What? What's wrong?"
He gained a small smile as he saw a white flake fall down from the sky, then another. "What is it? It's cold," Suzume asked.
"It's snowing," looks like it might be a heavy fall," he informed them.
"Really? Has it ever snowed in Soul Society? I've never seen it—unless Captain Hitsugaya uses his Zanpakuto to make it snow," Tetsuya asked in astonishment as he caught one of the white flakes in the palm of his hand, it instantly melted.
"Oh wow! It hasn't snowed in Soul Society in twenty years," Chiaki mused from the doorway.
Neji observed her, concerned that she may have moved too quickly. She gave him a reassuring smile and nodded as she rubbed her stomach. He relaxed as she walked over to them, watching the descending snowflakes float through the air.
"Father and I used to have snowball fights when I was a child," Neji stated.
"Hmm, My grandfather used to that with Mizuki and I," Chiaki added, she observed the children running about the front yard, catching snowflakes on their tongues.
"Your grandfather? I don't recall you speaking of him," Neji questioned.
Chiaki nodded and confirmed, "I didn't really speak of him in that content. I didn't know for a long time that former Captain-Commander Yamamoto was my grandfather."
Neji blinked, recalling something she had said about the former Captai-Commander. He could even recall the sadness in her gorgeous warm amber eyes and the pain in her honey suckle voice as she relayed the information to him originally, "- For a time, we were kept at the first division under Head Captain Yamamoto's supervision. When we were no longer in danger, he entrusted us to Shunsui. One of the very few whom he believed could stand up to any other Shinigami in Soul Society." He had turned on his side to observe her as she spoke, while she stared up at the ceiling. Although she didn't shed a single one, he could tell the tears were fighting to build up in her eyes.
"Certainly makes a few things add up though, like where I get my fire power—and I saw a picture of his daughter—my mother, and one of my grandmother. I get my eyes from them. Tetsuya got grandpa's eyes," Chiaki added, giving a slight giggle towards the end.
"In fact aside from the shaggy hair he's grandpa's mini clone," she concluded.
"What was your mother's name?"
"Nozomi, my grandmother was Hanako—and grandfather was Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto," Chiaki listed off.
Neji blinked repeatedly there was absolutely no way he would even consider using that one! But something floral to honour her grandmother, and what a fortunate turn of events that their mother shared the same name. He gently placed a hand on her stomach and suggested, "I'm thinking if this one's a girl we could use a floral name—especially since they're due in early spring."
He blushed a little as he sheepishly suggested, "Maybe Hinagiku Nozomi—it was also my mother's name, and my father's favourite flowers were daisies."
Chiaki smiled and nodded as she admitted, "I love that. Hinagiku Nozomi Hyuga."
She glanced to him and revealed, "I've been trying to find a way to honour both of our dads—not my biological disaster of a DNA provider but—my real Dad. The one that raised me, but I can't really find a way to combine their names."
He chuckled at how she described her birth father, but nodded in understanding. The man was currently serving thirty thousand years in Muken, and in fact had been the reason he'd met her. He'd escaped from Muken and fled to Neji's living world, Chiaki had pursued him and in the process intervened when a hollow attacked a mother and her two small children.
"Perhaps I'm over thinking it. Maybe it's enough to name him Hizashi Shunsui Hyuga," Chiaki suggested.
Neji smiled and nodded, "that would work."
He chuckled a little as he mused, "it's funny how both of our fathers were the second born son. My father was born mere seconds after my uncle Hiashi. Shunsui is also the second eldest."
Chiaki giggled and nodded in agreement before disclosing, "Nanao's father was my Dad's older brother—when he died—my father became the head of the Kyoraku clan."
"Head of a noble clan, and the Captain-Commander—I'm amazed he has so much time to help with the kids," he mused.
He took a steadying breath but the snowfall picked up. He realized quickly they'd be better off waiting it out inside, "Tetsuya, Suzume, come inside please. We'll play spinning tops for a little while then we can have some fun in the snow once it settles."
Suzume whined while Tetsuya nodded and raced inside, Suzume following behind him. The adults followed the two children inside and Neji shivered, brushing some snow off of his shoulders, and doing the same for Chiaki.
He looked to the kids and asked, "how about we all warm up with some hot cocoa and ramen first?"
"Oh that sounds lovely," Chiaki agreed. Tetsuya nodded while Suzume requested, "no menma in mine, please."
Neji couldn't suppress his laughter as she stuck out her tongue, he gave a nod his head as he made his way into the kitchen. Chiaki followed him and began to prepare the vegetables for the ramen.
Neji glanced at her from the corner of his eye and advised, "I've decided something—I'm going to apply to the spiritual arts academy."
"I'm sure you'll get in," Chiaki encouraged him. He smiled in relief, he'd been concerned that she'd flip out on him or something. He took out some left over roast pork from the previous night and began to heat it up in a skillet, while four eggs sat in a pot of water on the stove.
He then added, "instead of joining a squad though—I want to see about being an instructor there. If every Shinigami can learn the internal reiatsu network of their target—perhaps I can teach them the basics of gentle fist—and thereby enhance their ability to immobilize a hollow even if they're not good with kido."
She quirked a brow as she asked, "You'd teach an entire organization your family's signature taijutsu?"
"I wasn't even supposed to know it. I taught myself by watching Hiashi," Neji reminded her.
"True enough," she conceded as she began slicing the narutomaki. She almost laughed as she changed the subject, "you know Isane—she absolutely refuses to eat narutomaki. She thinks it'll make her grow more."
"Hmm. She is pretty tall," Negi agreed. He observed her expression and her body language before he inquired, "are you alright with my idea or-?"
"I'm responsible," she blurted out. Neji flinched a little at her tone and blinked as he sought to better understand what she was talking about, "you're responsible? For what?
"Your amnesia, I'm responsible for it. I did the konso, when you died. I was there," Chiaki revealed. Her shoulders shook a little and she sniffed and apologized, "I'm sorry. I didn't know."
"Exactly! You didn't know that I had Celestial Being DNA. I don't think I even knew, so how could you have known? Yes it's made a few things difficult but—I remember, Chiaki. I remember you bringing a mix tape to my world, I remember the photos we took, the hikes we went on, the missions. I wouldn't trade that, and having to remember it all—it's just another way I get to fall in love with you again. So don't be sorry, okay? I'm not angry with you," he soothed.
