First of all, this story of mine has crossed over 31 favourites and 37 followers as of this chapter (Though fanfiction seems to be broken again but…), thank you all for sticking with me throughout this story of mine and that you guys are the best. Anyway let's move on to this chapter after addressing some comments.
Slimereader11: Well thank you and I'm glad that you are enjoying it so far, and yes, I intend to change canon in the future. Just stick by and we shall see where it goes from here.
Selfishgecko: As much as I want to tell you, it would spoil what I want to write in the future, but… I guess I can give hints on what is going to happen, the entire Vol 4 will be similar but different in its approach. That's all I'm going to say.
As for why Raphael wouldn't just have Jade sneak in to the CCT to ambush Cinder? Well we got to remember, both Emerald and Mercury are in the ballroom as well, if Jade were to suddenly disappear from the dance too early, this would alert both of them and both will tell Cinder about Jade's disappearance. And Jade had already proven himself to be an annoyance to Cinder in the past, so they would be prepared for Jade's intervention should he suddenly vanish from the dance all of a sudden.
Lastly related to Ironwood, yes normally this would be the better option but all it is probably really late at night, I don't really have a proper answer for that but I could offer some possible reasons. One, the situation is best handled in the morning when everyone is fresh and awake, two, Ozpin Glynda and Ironwood would need to discuss the CCT breach attempt. (Not really as Cinder achieved her goals.)

Chapter 16
Field Corgi
It is currently morning after the attempted breach incident that had occurred yesterday. As of now, headmaster Ozpin was in his office with General James Ironwood and Glynda Goodwitch. They are currently having a very heated discussion on what has transpired the day before.
"They were here... Ozpin, they were here!" General Ironwood raised his voice in anger at his fellow headmaster as he angrily slammed his fist against Ozpin's desk.
"We're very much aware of that! Thank you, James." Glynda told the general.
"Fantastic! You're aware! Now are we going to do something about it or should we just stay the course and continue to ignore what's right in front of us?!" James sarcastically replied back before accusing his fellow headmaster of inaction. It was then the alert sound plays, signifying that someone has arrived on the elevator.
"Come in." Ozpin called out as Ruby, Blake and Jade entered the office.
"Sorry it took so long. Someone accidentally hit all the buttons on the elevator on the way up here." Both faunuses glanced at Ruby before she continued. "It wasn't me."
"Right… Good morning Headmaster, headmistress, general…" Jade greeted all of them as Ozpin nodded at him, Glynda just stared at him and the general just glared at Jade.
"Good morning Headmaster Ozpin and Glynda. And good morning General?" Blake did the same and greeted everyone in the room before also greeting General Ironwood who she had not met till now.
Thank you for coming. all three of you. How are you feeling?" Ozpin asked his students.
"Okay, I guess. I'd feel better if my bad-guy-catching record wasn't One-for-three." Ruby admitted as Jade just took out his scroll to type something.
"I feel alright Headmaster, though I still wonder why she was infiltrating the CCTs." Blake was next to tell Ozpin how she felt as Jade put down his scroll.
"To be honest, headmaster… I question why you are asking it; we should be focusing on the issue we had yesterday. After all… things are now going to get more complicated now." Jade then finished his thoughts as he held Blake's hand which the General noticed and gave a curious glance to Jade.
Everyone stared silently as all of them waited for something to happen till Jade coughed and spoke up.
"Well… this is getting awkward… Do any of you have anything to say to us? Or are we just going to stay silent?" Jade tried to break the deafening silence.
It was then that the Ironwood spoke to all three of them here.
"Ruby, Blake, Jade... I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you three did last night is exactly what being a Huntress and Huntsman is all about. You all recognized a threat. You took action. And you did the very best you could to stop it."
"Thank you, sir." All three of them said at the same time to General Ironwood.
"Now, the general here has already informed us of the events that... transpired last night, but now that you've all rested, we were wondering if you had anything to add. Ozpin then asked his students.
"Yea, I got one Ozpin." Jade then spoke as Ozpin nodded at him to continue.
"That masked individual was Cinder Fall." Jade says it as Ozpin, Glynda and Ironwood all went wide-eyed as Jade's teammates did not flinch at all.
"Cinder Fall? Are you sure Jade?" The general was first to question Jade's information.
"I see… Mr Grayson could possibly be right; I did not see Mrs Fall at the ballroom until much later." Glynda was next to join in as the students remained quiet. However the general remained unconvinced.
"And how can we trust the word of a mercenary? He could be lying or working with her!" General Ironwood rightfully accused Jade for lying to them while everyone else watched as Jade retorted back.
"Well this mercenary has fought Cinder Fall in the past, I know her moves and I recognize them, we have a common enemy in Beacon general… We should focus on them, and not on trying to stab each other."
"James… Jade has a point; it is because of him that we know who to keep an eye on. This event just proved that she is indeed a threat to Beacon." Ozpin interjected as Ironwood looked at Ozpin and sighed.
"Very well then, what do you recommend we do about it Jade…"
"Well general…" Jade then put his hand on his chin as he thought of an idea until Blake joined in.
"General, have you checked the CCTs? If Cinder is indeed there, it means that she could have put a virus into the systems of the CCTs yesterday."
"And why would she do that?" Ironwood then interjected as Jade joined in.
"Well… I believe it has to do with your androids and mechs you have stationed in Vale, General."
"Is that so… So Cinder wishes to hack my androids?" He asked back as Jade nodded.
"Most likely. You need to get some technicians on it, by the way… Have you interrogated Torchwick?" Jade then changed the topic.
"We have, he has proven to be… uncooperative. Given time he will take."
"Why don't you just break a limp or two. That will definitely make him talk if you threaten his life." Jade's idea earned shock and disapproval from his fellow teammates.
"Jade no, we are not doing this again." Blake scolds Jade.
"Jade, as the leader of team RWBY, you are not to beat them up for information."
"I cannot accept that Mr Grayson. Torchwick will talk, in time." Ozpin rejected Jade's idea as he sighs in disappointment.
"Do you three have any more information?" Glynda then asked the three students as Ruby was the first to speak.
"Well… we have been gathering information on the White Fang for a while and well…" Glynda noticeably looked really angry at Ruby as what she had done.
"We have come to a conclusion that the White Fang and Torchwick are working together under someone else." Blake then joined in as Glynda questioned again.
"Interesting… Any more?"
"We also heard from them that they had a hidden base in the south east. Just outside the Kingdom."
"And you heard this information by?" Glynda then added in.
Both the faunus couple looked at each other as they held each other's hand and nodded before Jade spoke.
"Both Blake and I infiltrated one of the White Fang rallies and in which both of us found out about the White Fang's hideout base outside the kingdom."
"It was also the same day in which our team captured Torchwick." Blake then added this information as well as all except Ironwood remembered that day.
"Very well then, Thank you for your cooperation, all three of you. Why don't you go and spend some time with the rest of your team? You have a big day ahead of you."
"Any time." Ruby says as she leaves.
"Well then, we will take our leave, have a good day." Jade says as he and Blake nodded before following Ruby out of the office as the general seemed focused on the relation between Jade and Blake.
After Blake and Jade left the office, there was a pregnant pause before the Ironwood spoke.
"Hmm… It seems that Mr Grayson was different from what the reports had said about him. He seemed to be more... mellow than what the reports say about him."
"That I can agree, Mr Grayson's bond with Mrs Belladonna has definitely mellowed him out of his more… aggressive tendencies. He is still pragmatic in combat as I'm sure Mrs Goodwitch can attest by." Ozpin then looked at Glynda who nodded in agreement at what Ozpin had just said.
"Yes he is." Glynda just says back.
"We should return on how to deal with this hideout south east of the Kingdom and Cinder Fall."
All of them nodded as they began making plans on how to deal with it.
Much later while on their way back to RWBY's Dorm…
"Jade? You seem to have a uh… bad relation with the general. Why?" Ruby asked.
"Long story short, back in a few years ago, I raided an Altastean base for some… exotic supplies, at the request of one of my employers, alone. Let's say the general is displeased at what I did, not that I could blame him at all." Jade says as all three of them made their way back to their dorm.
"Really? By yourself?" Blake was next to ask.
"Yeh. The android guards the Altastean used are so easy to destroy if you hit the correct parts, the neck is one weakness. Just hit it and it is offline. And don't get me onto the human guards." Jade explained as he tapped his neck to emphasise where to hit.
"Well then, I can see that happening with you." Blake then responds back.
Raphael can be seen materialising in front of the gang while walking backwards, of course only Jade could see him, Raphael could be seen smirking and giggling as if he knew something funny is going to happen. When Jade mentally asked Raphael what it was, Raphael just placed his finger on his lips as he just smiled before he just disappeared, Jade just frowned which Blake noticed.
"Jade? What wrong?"
"I got a bad feeling about what is coming later when we go back to our dorm…"
"Are you sure?" Blake asked back.
"Yup…" Jade just confirmed her as all three of them made it back to their dorm.
As soon as Ruby opened their dorm, Yang and Weiss all rushed to ask what had happened, it was then in which all three of them explained what had happened yesterday during their dance.
"That was a risky move." Weiss said.
"I don't know about you guys but you said that Cinder is the one responsible for it then it is a good idea to let Ozpin know about it. Besides that." Yang says as he pulled out a cylindrical package from somewhere…
"What's that?" Ruby asked her sister.
"I don't know yet. Dad sent it to us. I thought we could open it together!" Yang cheerfully says as she told her sister that the package was from their dad.
"Ooooh! Something from home!" Ruby acts all cheerfully at it.
Yang then opens the package, and another cylinder, hairy and black, falls out onto the floor and starts to shake. The object suddenly transforms into a corgi. Team RWBY (and Jade) leans in, staring at it. The corgi then barks twice which caused Weiss, Blake and Jade to react with great shock while Ruby and Yang reacted excitedly, Ruby then jumped in the air and cheerfully says the dog's name.
"Zwei!"
"He sent a dog?" Blake confusingly asked.
"I am not dealing with this!" Jade fearfully yells as he begins to walk back, Raphael's laughter can be heard in his head as Jade makes his way to the top of Ruby's bed.
"In the mail?" Weiss then questioned.
"Oh, he does stuff like this all the time!" Yang nonchalantly told Ice queen about it.
Blake also joins Jade on top of Ruby's bed as both of them look at the adorable corgi with fear in their eyes.
"Your father or your dog?" Blake then asked.
"I think their father… I mean how does a dog fit into such a small cylinder package?" Jade told his girlfriend as both of them continued to look at Zwei.
"Are you telling me that this mangy... drooling... mutt is going to wiv wif us foweva? Oh, yes he is, yes he is! Oh, isn't he adorable!" Weiss was acting serious till she began to coo the corgi.
"Please keep it away from my belongings." Blake asked.
"And that also includes my stuff as well… My instincts are screaming at me, make it stop..." Jade added as well.
"Would all first-year students please report to the amphitheatre?" Glynda's voice can be heard all over the intercom as she calls for all first-year students to report.
"Well, we can't exactly leave him here while we're gone for the week." Weiss then points out.
"Yea keep him here, I don't want to be anywhere close to that dog." Jade muttered.
"I agree." Blake muttered while both of them are still on Ruby's bed.
Ruby sets Zwei down and he walks over to Blake and Jade who were still on the top bunk, and barks at them, Jade noticeably flinched and fearfully retracts back so Zwei could not see him as Ruby chuckles at the fearful Jade.
"Look, there's a letter!" Yang says as Zwei walks in front of Yang before she begins to read the letter. "Dear girls, I've got to leave the island for a few days, so I'm sending Zwei to you to take care of. Enclosed is all the food you should need. Love you both, Taiyang."
Dozens of cans of dog food spill out of the small package, piling up around Zwei.
"Ok! How on Remnant does he fit that many dog food into that package!" Jade yelled out.
"What is he supposed to do with that?" Weiss questioned as a can opener fell from the package and bounced off Zwei's head.
"Well, that settles it! Come on guys, Zwei will be here when we get back!" Yang calls her team to move it.
"I am not looking forward to it…" Jade muttered.
"Oh, I'll miss you so much, we're going to be best friends, I can't wait to see you. (Insert baby talk)" Weiss continues to coo at Zwei as her speech deteriorates into incomprehensible baby talk about something I have a hard time translating.
At the same time, both Blake and Jade jump down from Ruby's bunk and jump across the table, all while avoiding Zwei as the corgi looks at them leaving.
"BRUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Raphael then appeared beside Jade as he laughed madly as if he had seen the funniest joke ever.
"Shut it Raphael!" Jade mentally growled at Raphael's laughing.
"Oh I'm.. *Gasp* Oh I'm sorry I refrained from telling you about Zwei, I just wanted to see how you would react to that corgi." Raphael explained as he tried to wipe the smile of his face.
"You are such a great twin. (Soul wise)" Jade mentally grumbled as he and his team made their way to the auditorium, Students could be seen gathered everywhere and talking.
"Quiet! Quiet please. Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin." Glynda then told everyone in the auditorium to quiet down.
"Today we stand together, united. Mistral. Atlas. Vacuo. Vale. The four Kingdoms of Remnant. On this day, nearly eighty years ago, the largest war in recorded history came to an end. It was a war of ignorance, of greed, and of oppression. A war that was about much more than where borders fell or who traded with whom, but about the very idea of individualism itself. We fought for countless reasons, one of which being the destruction of all forms of art and self-expression. And as you are well aware, that was something many could not stand for." Ozpin gave a pause to look at all of his students before resuming.
"As a result, those who opposed this tyranny began naming their children after one of the core aspects of art itself: colour. It was their way to demonstrate that not only would they refuse to tolerate this oppression, but neither were the generations to come. And it was a trend that is held to this very day. We encourage individuality, expressionism, and unity through diversity. As I have said, today we stand together, united. But this bond cannot exist without effort. Which is why today, while the rest of the world celebrates peace, Huntsmen and Huntresses will work to uphold it. As first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman or Huntress on a mission."
"Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training, and remember to do your very best." Ozpin finally finish his speech as he walked off the stage. (What a mouthful)
"Good Oum. Ozpin can talk for so long…" Jade thought to himself as he followed his team while holding Blake's hand.
"This is perfect! All we have to do is shadow a Huntsman working in the southeast!" Ruby enthusiastically says as she and her team continue walking.
"Ruby? What's in the bag?" Jade then pointed out.
"This? Uh… Survival stuff." Ruby gave her answer.
"Right…" Jade muttered while remaining unconvinced.
"Anyways, Yeah! We'll follow them around by day and give them the slip by night!" Yang says.
"Let's check "search and destroy"!" Weiss then suggested.
"Good idea Weiss." Jade nodded as he points at the hologram that has all the missions.
Team RWBY (and Jade) then approached a hologram screen.
"Here we go! Quadrant 5 needs Grimm cleared out!" Ruby continues talking.
"Well, it's in the southeast!" Blake was next to speak.
"And just nice, it is at where the hideout is." Jade smirked as he talked about it.
"Sounds perfect!" Yang cheerfully says.
Ruby then selects the mission and types in her team name. However, the screen says that first years are not allowed to take this mission.
"Wonderful!" Weiss commented, her words full of sarcasm.
"Any other ideas?" Blake asked as Jade nodded his head.
"We mail ourselves there!" Ruby eagerly says out and Jade's eyes widen at the idea.
"Well, that's one option." Ozpin says as he walks towards team RWBY. (and Jade)
"Unfortunately, we determined that the concentration of Grimm was too extreme for first-year students. It seems that particular region is rather popular. In fact, I have the sneaking suspicion that you five will make your way there no matter which job you choose."
Jade and Blake just sighed as Weiss and Yang glared at Ruby, who nervously rubs her head.
"After all, you all did appear at the docks with Jade being critically injured and in need of immediate medical attention." Jade noticeably flinched as Blake hugged to comfort Jade, Ozpin then continued. "And then you also told me about the White Fang hideout in the south east, and the fact that all five of you managed to arrest Roman Torchwick."
"Um... well… yea..." Ruby could only mutter.
Ozpin chuckled as he took out his scroll. "So how about this: instead of waiting for you all to break the rules, why don't we just bend them? I will allow it."
Ozpin then pressed some buttons on his scroll as the hologram machine made some noises.
"We won't let you down. Thank you, professor." Ruby says to Ozpin.
"Do not thank me for this. Teamwork and persistence have carried you far. But you must understand, the things that await you beyond the protection of the Kingdom will not care. Stay close to your Huntsman at all times, and do exactly as he say. He will be leading you on this mission, and he can have you sent back to Beacon, if he finds your skills to be unsatisfactory. Good luck." Ozpin left after he had said his piece.
"He? Professor, who will be leading us?"
Ozpin just gave Jade a sly smirk before walking off to somewhere else.
"Well that was ominous…" Jade muttered.
"It can't be that ominous Jady! Come one! How bad can it be?" Yang optimistically says as she wraps her arm around Jade who just glanced at her with a raised eyebrow. (Famous last words Yang. Famous last words.)
It was then that team RWBY (and Jade) made their way to the airship only for a student to run past them.
"Hey! Team CFVY is back!" The student yelled out loud for everyone to hear.
Beacon students then could be seen gathering around to witness the return of Team CFVY. Both Jade and Blake go up to Velvet to check up on her.
"Velvet? Are you okay?" Blake was the first to speak as Jade then joined in after her.
"I guess it did not go as planned?"
"I'm fine. I had Yatsuhashi to look out for me." Velvet tried to assure her juniors.
"Your mission was supposed to end a week ago! What happened?" Weiss then questioned.
"I guess delays? Something must had happened for the them to be this late." Jade then asked Blake who just shrugged at this theory.
"Nothing happened. It was just ... there were just so many…" Velvet mumbled as she looked up and noticed Team RWBY's (and Jade) worried expressions on their faces. Velvet then tried to assure them that everything is fine.
"Oh, but don't worry. You first-years are just shadowing Huntsmen, so you should be fine."
"Right." Yang said while remaining unconvinced.
"I should go. Be safe, okay?" Velvet tells team RWBY (and Jade)
"You do the same ok Velvet?" Jade says back at her as she nodded back at him.
"We can do this. We've never backed down before, and we're not going to start now."
"Right." Blake says as Jade snorted as spoke.
"Ruby, try and not let it make you overconfident alright?."
"Besides, it won't only be us out there! We'll be fighting alongside a genuine Huntsman!"
"Yeah!" Yang cheerfully says.
"Yay…" Jade spoke with a deadpan voice as Blake giggled slightly.
Much later, they finally meet the huntsman who they will be shadowing, they were… stunned to be honest.
"Why, hello girls and boys! Who's ready to fight for their lives?" Mr coffee addict (Dr Oobleck) said as he cheerfully shows himself to team RWBY. (and Jade)
Jade just groaned as he muttered. "This does not inspire confidence in me… Why him of all people..."
"I… Agree…" Blake agreed with her boyfriend.
Author's notes.
And there's that, the end of Chapter 16. A slightly smaller chapter but yea. First of all, we have the changes to the conversation with the present of Jade and Blake at the beginning. With the inclusion of Jade and Blake, the conversation goes completely different with Jade revealing that Cinder Fall was behind the infiltration attempt. Ironwood's reaction to Jade being lovers to Blake is my way to show that Jade had changed from what he was years ago and that he had mellowed out in his time in Beacon (though still pragmatic in combat).
And next we have Jade reacting to Zwei, our resident corgi. I made Jade also afraid of Zwei similar to Blake because I think it just makes sense for him to also be terrified of dogs similar to how Blake reacts to it. I don't know, what do you guys think about it?
Ok, next we have Raphael just being an ass and not informing Jade about Zwei, why did he do that? Because it amused him and nothing more. Besides I want to add more interactions for the shattered souls (Title Drop!) besides info sharing or anything related to it.
Other than that… There is nothing else to talk about so I will end it off here. If you think I miss anything out, feel free to leave a review on what you think about this chapter. I will read and respond back to you any who reviewed me. If you enjoy this work, please like it and follow me. It will inform you whenever I upload a new chapter. That's all for now, RGQC out!
