A/N: Thank you guys so much for being patient with me while I get my ish together. Here's chapter 6. Enjoy ^_^
JPOV:
When I'd come in Bella had shoved her phone into her back pocket and averted her eyes from my gaze. She'd made a beeline for my tiny kitchen and I could hear her clattering about as she tried to keep herself occupied.
I didn't notice anything different about the way I felt about her. The way I looked at her. The Alpha imprint was a possibility but how could Old Quil and dad even be sure.
I found Charlie in our living room. The blankets and pillow we'd given him to sleep on our couch folded neatly and stacked on one side. He'd looked at me and gestured for me to follow him out to the garage.
Oh boy.
He'd shuffled around the garage for a bit. Charlie gazed at the truck he'd had me fix up for Bella before she came to truck. The truck was completely dead now but I remember the conversation Charlie and I had when he commissioned me for the work.
Flashback:
"Jacob Black! Get out here!"
I could hear my dad yell from the back door and the rumbling of a truck.
I was much smaller then. Things were simpler and I'd though they'd stay that way.
I rolled myself from under the Rabbit I was fixing up and wiped my hands off on an old rag. I remember at first it felt like I would never get it done.
I could see Charlie standing behind my dad's wheelchair. He seemed happier than usual.
"I swear I can't get this boy to take his head out of that Rabbit for more than a minute. Your school work better be done with all that fooling around you're doing with that car of yours."
"I made sure my work is done."
I looked and saw a tow truck pulling in an old rusted Chevy Truck. I recognized it as the old Chevy we'd put in storage years ago.
"Jesus look at that dinosaur," I snorted.
"Charlie here has a proposition for ya."
Charlie maneuvered around Billy and began to reach dig into his jacket pocket.
"I just bought the truck off your old man here," he replied. "Billy said the ol' girl has at least a few years left in her."
"I'm not sure if this is enough time, but my daughter, Bella, will be back in town by the end of the month. She's gonna finish high school here."
I instantly lit up as remembered the girl I used to make mud pies with every summer.
"Bella's coming back?"
"Yeah. I figured she wouldn't appreciate being driven around in my cruiser so I figured I'd surprise her with this," Charlie gestured to the truck. "She's never had her own car before."
"I wanted to ask you to fix it up for her. You don't have to do anything drastic just make sure it's safe for her to drive."
He'd pulled out a wad of cash and stuck it out for me to take.
"This is $1000 dollars. I'd figure it'd be enough for you to buy any parts you may need and still have a good chunk of cash left over."
End of Flashback
I was excited just to see her again. I'd hoped we'd hang out and catch up when she got to Forks. That didn't happen 'til much later because of that damn leech.
It was a while before he finally spoke.
"You showed up home after being gone for weeks so I assume that you were with her this whole time?"
He looked at me through the dusty reflection of the trucks mirror.
"Am I right, Jacob?"
His tone was more forceful this time.
"Yes."
"What was she like? What was going on in that house?"
I hesitated.
"I spoke with my daughter already. But it's obvious she's not telling me the entire truth."
It was difficult to navigate these types of situations when you were sworn to secrecy.
"Charlie, I can't break Bella's trust like that. I've done it once before. I won't do it again," I answered in reference to the incident with the motorcycles.
"You did it to protect her. You did the right thing."
"No, Charlie. When I told you about the motorcycles, I was acting out of selfishness and jealousy. Yes I care about Bella's well being and safety but when I did what I did-. I won't betray Bella's trust again."
"Listen Charlie, Bella will tell you when she's ready. I can't be the one to do it."
After our conversation Charlie stormed out of the garage, clearly not happy with me withholding information from him.
It was just another one of those wolf moments. I had it good in the sense that I didn't have to keep this kind of information from Billy.
That look of worry and desperation on Charlie's face came into my mind again. Him trying to piece together an explanation with half-truths and lies. I suddenly thought of Embry's mom, pacing her house with worry as her son continued to disappear night after night. Jared's parents yelling at him as he skipped school to handle the duties of the pack.
Charlie could know. We could protect him just as we protected Bella and everyone else. What was wrong with the other pack members parents knowing?
If the council was going to insist that I take up my role as Alpha, some changes would need to be made.
We were keeping to many secrets and it's eating us up.
A/N: I know it's been a minute and this one is a bit short but I hope ya'll like it. Next chapter, were taking a bit of a break from Jacob and Bella. I hope you guys had a lovely holiday break.
