"A Destiny Rebooted"

CHAPTER THREE

"Finally, in entertainment news, Toon actress Sofia Roland—best known for her role on the series Sofia the First, which ran from 2013 to 2018—made a surprise double announcement at a press conference to celebrate the end of principal photography on Rescue Rangers x The Fast Saga," the reporter on Chip's screen said. "Roland, speaking on remote from England, where she is filming for an upcoming secret project, dropped two bombshells on the reporters at the conference."

The image of the reporter switched to Roland, who was beaming. "I am so happy to announce that I have not only recently married, but I am now expecting my first child," Roland said. "I am one month along, but I do know that I am expecting a girl."

The reporter's visage reappeared on Chip's screen. "The lucky groom is 20-year-old William Edwards, a flesh-and-blood human that Roland met on the Sofia the First set," the reporter continued. "You heard that right: for the first time ever, a Toon and a real human are expecting a child. Our congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, and to them also, our hopes that the little bundle of joy is brought into the world safely. For KABC Morning News, I'm April O'Neil. Have a wonderful day, and we'll see you tomorrow."

Chip smiled as he remembered the moment when, during filming of Rescue Rangers x The Fast Saga, he reunited with another former co-star and realized that he had found what...or rather, who...he didn't know he was looking for.

Three Months Earlier

On the Set of Rescue Rangers x The Fast Saga

Kona, Hawaii

Chip smiled as Vin Diesel walked up to him, something cupped in his hands. "Hey, Vin," Chip said. "What do you have in your hands?"

"Our newest co-star," Vin said, bending down to place his burden on the ground across from Chip.

Chip gasped when he saw who was looking back at him. "Lahwhinie?! Is that really you?!" Chip said.

Chip and Lahwhinie hugged. "Yeah, it's me," Lahwhinie said. "I heard that you and Dale helped find all those missing Toons."

"Yeah," Chip said. "It was a close shave, but in the end, Dale, Gadget and Zipper came through for me."

Lahwhinie smiled at Chip. Looking at the smile, Chip realized that he had had feelings for Lahwhinie going all the way back to when she guest starred on the original Rescue Rangers all those years ago.

"Did you like my surprise?" Vin said.

"Very much, Vin. Thank you," Chip said. Then, to Lahwhinie, Chip added, "You want to go get a drink after filming tonight? There's this Toons-only bar near my hotel that I've been enjoying while I've been in town."

"I'd like that very much," Lahwhinie said.

That night, Chip and Lahwhinie walked into Ten-Forward, the bar that Chip referred to. The woman at the bar smiled. "Evenin', Chip," the woman at the bar said.

"Evenin' to you too, Guinan," Chip said. "This is Lahwhinie. She's co-starring in the crossover project."

Guinan, the enigmatic proprietor of Ten-Forward, leaned down to look at Lahwhinie. "I remember you from 'Gadget Goes Hawaiian,'" Guinan said. "You were one of the most devious antagonists the Rangers faced back in the day."

"Thank you, but that was just the character I played," Lahwhinie said. "Now, I just run a Toons-only travel agency in Honolulu."

"One day, a producer for the crossover project comes up to me, recognizes me and asks if I would be interested in appearing in the crossover," she continued.

"Ah. I see," Guinan said. "Anyway, it's a pleasure to meet you, Lahwhinee."

"Same here, Miss Guinan," Lahwhinie said. "Chip recommended me to come here since he said he has enjoyed coming here every night since he came to town for the crossover."

"Well then, I hope you enjoy your visit," Guinan said. "What will you two have?"

"I'll take two Duff Lights, please," Chip said.

"Coming right up," Guinan said. She moved back behind the bar to pour the drinks.

Returning his attention to Lahwhinie, Chip smiled. "Before Guinan gets here with the drinks, I have something to get off my chest," he said.

"What is it, Chip?" Lahwhinie asked.

"When we filmed 'Gadget Goes Hawaiian' all those years ago, I must admit that I had a crush on you back then. But I didn't want to make things uncomfortable on the set," Chip said.

"But when Vin reintroduced me to you on set this afternoon, I realized that those feelings had remained with me all of these years. If anything, they grew stronger," he continued.

Lahwhinie's eyes widened. "What I am trying to say is...Lahwhinie , I love you," Chip said.

Lahwhinie began to cry at Chip's declaration. "Are you all right, Lahwhinie?" Chip asked.

Lahwhinie sniffed back her tears, then looked at Chip. "I have a confession too, Chip," Lahwhinie said. "All these years, after 'Gadget Goes Hawaiian' finished, I have had dreams about being in love with you. And now, these dreams have come true."

Lahwhinie took Chip by the paw and looked into his eyes before saying, "I love you too."

Then, Chip and Lahwhinie closed their eyes... and kissed.

The kiss was only broken when someone cleared their throat. Chip and Lahwhinie broke the kiss, opened their eyes and looked up to see Guinan, standing with their glasses of beer. "I'm so happy for you both," Guinan said before placing the glasses on the table.

"Thanks, Guinan," Chip said.

As Guinan moved off to serve other customers, Chip held up his glass of beer. "Then, my girlfriend, may I propose a toast?" Chip said.

Lahwhinie smiled as she held up her glass. "To old friends and new frontiers," Chip said. "And most importantly..."

"To what?" Lahwhinie asked.

"To a destiny that while delayed, finally came to us," Chip said before they clinked their glasses, took a drink, then kissed again.
