Hello everyone and welcome to another chapter of Dragon slayer, Dragon core. The chapter I have been writing for a while now turned out a little bit bigger than anticipated thanks to me getting Covid. So what happens when you have all the time to write, but can't really post due to sleeping too much…a double length from normal chapter, which is why I decided to split it into two parts. This is part one. Once again I would like to mention I do not own My Hero Academia, or other referenced material. I only own the story. I do not have a beta and English is not my native tongue. I think I addressed everything relevant for now, here we go.
The two boys walked to the train station along with a few people from both of their classes, trying to get them be friendly to each other. Not that that was the hardest part as Natsu being a member of 1A had jumped his own teacher in defense of a member of 1B, even if it had been his best friend, it carried a lot of weight with the members of 1B. Natsu had also conveniently forgotten that Eraserhead had summoned him to his office when the day was done. Not that he would have gone in the first place, or at least not without Nezu there. It was not that the pink haired boy disrespected Aizawa, or any teacher for that matter, but hurting his friends was like driving on the highway to his shit list.
Izuku on the other hand was still a bit spooked; he hadn't had control over his quirk for that long especially with how much power he could put out nowadays, thanks to Natsu. That and he was very tired from the healing by recovery girl after all the tests and using his combination element. The green haired boy guessed that he needed more practice with the sunlight mode alone, but that would come over the year if what he heard from the older students was correct. The following day they would have basic heroics, he guess that that would be a theoretical class, but he hadn't guessed what book that would be from their issued package.
For now they were talking with Uraraka, Iida, Kendo, Tetsutetsu, Asui and Yanagi. Finding out that some of them lived rather close to each other, or at least would have to take the same train route to get to school. Finding that they were also rather excited for the rest of the school year, even though they were somewhat terrified of Aizawa by now. First the threat for expelling one of them from the hero course, followed by having a student almost blow himself up because he erased their quirk, or at least part of it. Especially Iida seemed to have quite a bit of trouble accepting the course of action of the day. His arms moving like the robot that his stiff attitude alluded to he spoke up in outrage. ''I had such high hoped of such a renowned institute of learning, I would have expected a higher degree of professionalism from the educator put in charge of hero class 1A''
The others nodded along with this statement as they were thinking about what they would have done if they would have been in Izuku's situation, only to find out that they didn't have an answer. The reason why they didn't have an answer was that either their quirks were mutation based and hence wouldn't be erased, or emitter type in which case nothing would have happened. This situation was rather unique, still calling the green haired boy out on as Aizawa put it, 'not giving it his all' or 'thinking that would be enough' should have been enough of a reason for Izuku to show what was possible and explain why he couldn't go all out all the time.
-Meanwhile in Nezu's office-
The hybrid animal was sitting bolt upright in his office chair and he was not looking happy, or even remotely carefree. Which normally would be the case, unless it concerned the health and welfare of his students, both were on the line in the case that had been the problem today. Sekijiro Kan was still explaining what had been going on from the moment they had left the auditorium, which had started with the stoically walking to the fields end threatening to expel them. Not even trying to get them adjusted to a new school and a healthy learning environment. Even though he gave the point that not all of them should be in the hero course as they didn't seem to have the right motivation, that didn't mean to the tusked, man that they should be terrified.
Kan had been pointing out routes, locations and trying to be a decent mentor in just about every way and his fellow homeroom teacher just didn't seem to care. That or care a bit too much, the blood user couldn't put his finger on it. When he came to the describing of the tests and once more the threat of expulsion from the hero course Nezu's eye started to twitch. The hybrid animal allowed his teachers a very wide range of methods and powers, if they didn't abuse them. He knew that Aizawa had expelled an entire year, for as he claimed 'not having any potential', but he had hoped that the man had learned. As Kan continued to lay out the tests Nezu kept a close eye on Aizawa, to see if he had any reactions to the results of said tests. Only to find out that he seemed to scoff at the places a few students wound up, most specifically one Izuku Midoriya and one Natsu Dragneel.
''Any comments so far Aizawa?'' The animal asked sharply at yet another scoff where they hadn't been straight at the top. The sleepy eyed man lifted an eyebrow and remarked. ''They were being illogical and thought they could get by using the minimum.'' Only for Kan to glare at the quirk eraser, knowing that if he tried to bind him again his quirk would only be erased. ''You heard the reason just as well as I did Eraser and I happen to agree with them. ALSO IT DIDN"T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT YOU DID!'' The blood used couldn't help himself from shouting that last bit and Nezu was already rubbing his temples ''what did he do?''
Calming himself and not hearing All Might enter the office Kan focused and went off on a rant of how Eraser had tried to erase Natsu's quirk. Only to seemingly fail, ordering his to report to his office at the end of the day. With a muttered ''The boy better be there when this is over.'' Saw a glare coming his way, only this time from Nezu, followed by a motion to Kan to continue his story. Seeing his boss motion him to continue the teacher went on to describe what happened when he tried to erase Izuku's quirk, including Natsu jumping Eraserhead demanding answers and calling him an idiot. A sentiment 2 out of the four present seemed to agree with heartily. Once more telling the story of how Izuku with a bit less luck could have blown his arm off caused All might to pinch the bridge of his nose.
Finally wrapping up with both students using their all to send the balls kilometers away and leaving to see Recovery girl Nezu took a moment. ''Do you have any idea how lucky you are Aizawa that I am not going to fire you on the spot? Because I don't think you do. We are the top hero school yes, but that doesn't mean you can expel whoever, why ever, also I expected that you would read into all the students that you teach on how their quirk works. In some cases failing to do so may prove fatal! Now Dragneel isn't going to be at your office, he went home.'' The face that Shota gave him was essentially the 'I am going to expel him for that look', doesn't even take his teachers seriously enough to know when to listen.
''You'd better stop making that face. I'll make an exception for the lowest ranked on the physical scores of your class. He'll face probation, not expulsion. If only to better himself, he has till the sports festival. You know of who I speak.'' Both teachers nodded, not only had they seen the performance that the student put in, they had also heard his words and seen his looks. They spelled trouble, a lot of trouble. ''When it comes to those two students…'' He slammed two already rather thick files onto the table. ''I expect you both to read these thoroughly and if I see any teacher act out of place on the information in these files, you'd better hope you're on the other side of the world. For I will use all of my intellect to make your life miserable.'' Which was not an inconsiderable threat. Both teachers knew that since a certain incident with a certain flame user the principal had become very protective of his students, no matter what course they were in.
Kan simply took one of the files and nodded. ''Now Aizawa, you're on probation and Kan you'll be there tomorrow in heroics 101 to help as we'll combining as many classes as possible. I know you tend to favour 1B due to the rivalry in the past. This year we'll be stomping it out. Especially since our top qualifiers are as close as brothers, living together as well. Which you'd know if you'd shown any interest at all Eraser. Finally if All Might, who has heard and seen most of what's happened today sees any repeats he is to report to me and you'd better hope you have a damn good reason. Now get out, I need to call the Midoriya household and hope we can fix this.''
With that all three teachers walked out of Nezu's office, with Kan glaring at Aizawa and nodding respectfully at All might before leaving. All might himself nodded in return, gave a sad look towards Eraser and left as well. Eraser on the other hand was just feeling sleepy and annoyed. He knew he had to read the file he had been given or more trouble would be sure to follow. That was not something he was looking forward to. His reputation as harsh but fair had been tarnished, if only grudgingly admitting rightfully so. Starting to read as he walked towards his office his eyes opened up wider and wider the further he got into the file.
The teacher admitted to himself that perhaps he had been rather remiss in not reading up on the students in his care, especially the quirks he would be dealing with on a daily basis. Having finally admitted that to himself Aizawa started on what was beyond the quirk and closer to the person he was dealing with. Only to find that there was very little information on Natsu, except from what was written in the principal's own hand, paw? What he read there was mostly focusing on what kind of character that Natsu seemed to have and that surprised Shota. If not even the principal knew much about him, aside from what it looked like a very private conversation there was not much to go on. Only the word from the principal that he was good enough in body and mind. To which Shota shrugged and gave credit where credit was due, the principal's animal instincts were not to be fooled.
What he was far more interested in was the information that was available on Izuku Midoriya, finding that there was far more than he had bargained for. So perhaps he'd have to adjust his opinion from spoiled and skating by on his quirk's success to scary observant and only recently training with an unlocked quirk. This would also explain the stamina drain and seeming lack of confidence on some points. That and maybe just maybe read the other student files too, just in case…
-Midoriya household-
After getting off of the phone with Principal Nezu Inko waited for her two sons to arrive home and see if they were okay, according to the principal they were. However moms tended to see if their kids were okay first before believing anyone else, or letting them speak for that matter. As the boys arrived home they got the full examination and she wanted the entire story from them as well before giving judgment. After hearing the story from their side she sighed and sends Izuku to bed, only to thank Natsu once again for coming into their lives after the green haired boy had left the room.
-The next day-
The following morning both boys were up bright and early, not only because they had gotten an early night the day before, but Izuku was a bit too hyped for his first heroics class. The rumour that All might would be teaching and the odd chance of that being true had the green haired teenager bouncing out of bed and into his uniform, while Natsu took the slower approach. He was also rather wary of going back to U.A. after the incident of the day before. He knew he had completely ignored the reporting to Aizawa's office, but he did appreciate Vlad King jumping to Izuku's defense after he had gotten over his shock. Now they were having breakfast while Izuku was telling little facts about the possible things they'd be taught that day. How he knew they could be facts was that they had overheard some upper classmen talking about the things they had to learn in their first year of heroics classes.
Saying goodbye for the day to Inko, who Natsu was slowly truly starting to think of as his mom. Not because he had never had any female role models, because he had had those, but more because he had had a dad in Igneel and not exactly a mom. Well a mom that he could remember, he couldn't exactly recall the days before he had come to Earthland, or rather the more present day Earthland. Absentmindedly they made their way to the train station, one with a head full of school, the other a head full of memories.
Boarding the train they saw some of their classmates, who looked both relieved and worried to see them at the same time. Though it had to be said it was the worry that the two were not fully okay after the day they had just had. Izuku continued without switching gears in conversation with Iida about the laws that they would be learning about and the speedster just went along with it. Natsu knew that this would continue until the moment someone mentioned a quirk around Izuku. The notebook that the boy had brought to his first day was already half filled with observations and theories of how some of the quirks he had seen up close worked. This was of course the moment that Tetsutetsu brought it up. ''Your quirks are so damn manly, but what happened yesterday when Aizawa looked at you?''
That was the moment that Izuku looked uncomfortable to say the least. He hadn't slept that soundly in his mind at least. Sure the boy had had plenty of rest and so was rather energetic that day, but his dreams, or rather nightmares had been haunted by the thoughts of losing control of the power he now held inside of him. One of the more scary thoughts that had entered his mind was that he could possibly get even more elements under his command, as he had no idea what his limit was. That and Natsu had hinted at it. One of the differences between his and Natsu's quirk was that Natsu didn't seem to be able to switch fully from one element to the other, while Izuku could.
''Well I guess I could tell you guys, my quirk is not one type or the other, it's a combination of a mutation and an emitter type quirk. As I figured out yesterday 1A's homeroom teacher his hero name is Eraserhead, who's quirk lets him erase the quirk of people he looks at, but I highly doubt that also goes for mutations, which is why people like Asui-san aren't affected by it. So while he couldn't erase the mutation part of my quirk, which regulates rather a lot of it, or so I guess. What he could erase was the emitter part of my quirk; the part that I assume lets me guide it to do what I want it to do as soon as it is brought out of my body. The reason why I say I guess or I assume is that I haven't been able to use my quirk for that long. Only after my brother Natsu here helped me with my first element.''
Natsu nodded along with the description that Izuku gave the others as they had by now exited the train and were walking towards U.A. with plenty of time to spare. When the moment came that Izuku called him his brother he was humbled, even though the smile on his face couldn't be removed for the rest of the day he didn't care. Entering the building they were surprised that Aizawa was waiting on the two and Natsu felt that he was already setting a step in front of Izuku, somewhat obscuring him from view. The words that came from the teacher were a surprise though. ''Natsu Dragneel and Izuku Midoriya, would you two object to visiting my office before heading to your heroics class for today?''
Both boys looked at each other and shrugged, already following the still rather grouchy sounding teacher. It seemed like the wisest thing to do for now and they were curious what brought it on. As they entered the office that for some reason had for more cat oriented print and paraphernalia than one would expect from someone like Aizawa they stopped. Eraserhead turned around to face the two and motioned over to the table and seats that were there. Sitting down Natsu still had the smile from before on his face, though his eyes were trying to get a read on the teacher. The teacher in question looked rather uncomfortable and Natsu saw no sense in relieving him of the tension that was building.
Finally the teacher opened his mouth and the tone surprised both boys once again. The tone was carefully neutral and maybe a bit on the apologetic side before getting to the meat of the matter. ''First I think you are rather surprised that I called you two to my office. Natsu you're not in trouble for not being here yesterday afternoon, not in the slightest. As Nezu was so careful to point out, if I had read more into the students that I would be caring for I might have known enough to know how you would respond to something happening to your brother in all but blood next to you.'' That the teacher knew that part was a surprise to both students as they hadn't really mentioned that to Nezu, or at least couldn't remember if they had. ''To you Izuku, even though you're not in my homeroom class I would like to apologise unreservedly. For I had not read into your file and judge everyone the same as most teachers should. I cannot always account for what everyone has been through that much I will always defend. What I should have at least looked into was the quirks I would be working with. As such I might have known that something like yesterday could happen and the negative consequences that it might bring.''
Natsu looked at the teacher with every year he had under his belt and used all he had learned in both lives to judge if the man meant the words that he had said to the pair of them and asked a question that had been burning in the back of his mind for a while now. ''What was the punishment that Nezu gave you and does the pair of us forgiving you for what you did wrong have any implications on it?'' Aside from that the seemingly goofy kid looked at Aizawa with eyes that were far too old for a body like his, he was also surprised at the wording and the intent behind it. From what Aizawa gathered both students were willing to give him another shot, but the pink haired boy wanted to know if that would make his punishment any less. As the grown up guessed that he wouldn't do so if it made the punishment any less than what he had gotten and now realized deserved.
''No it does not lessen my punishment in any way, which was being put on probation for the remainder of the school yea. If a situation dangerous to a student outside of what is seen as fair for being in the hero course occurs due to an action of myself, I will be fired on the spot.'' With a curt nod Natsu extended the hand he had kept at his side, not knowing whether he was going to like the answer or not. Deciding to give the teacher another chance they were excused and headed to the heroics class, where the murmuring of two classes was creating somewhat of a buzz.
Taking their seats quickly before the teacher entered and the moment they had the door slammed open. ''I AM COMING THROUGH THE DOOR, LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!'' Or so All might seemed to think while his voice boomed through the classroom. ''Isn't that is silver age costume, I can't believe it's really All might, why do you think he's teaching?'' Those comments and more questions buzzed through the classroom as the currently number one ranked hero seemed to blitz through the attendance list. ''Now let's straight to business, combat training! For which you will need these.'' With that he pressed the remote he had in his hands and suitcases, numbered with their student number came out of the walls. ''A hero has to look the part as well, I will see you all at training center B, Vlad sensei will take you there!''
I decided to end it here, chapter 9 will be up shortly after this one.
