Opportunities Taken - Chapter 8
The next morning Skye came down to find Doug sitting at the breakfast buffet.
"Morning Doug," said Skye, "did Rhonda not join you this morning?"
"Actually she told me she needed to get back to normal," said Doug, "She's out with Chase this morning."
He looked at his watch, "They should be back any moment."
They both turned toward the doors to see Chase and Rhonda walk in, both obviously just been exercising.
"Morning guys," panted Rhonda.
"Did Chase run you a little hard?" laughed Doug.
"I actually slowed down for her," laughed Chase. Rhonda punched him in the arm, Chase yipped.
"Don't beat up my mate," laughed Skye, "even though he deserves it."
"Hey, don't talk to my girlfriend that way," laughed Doug.
"What!" yipped Chase and Skye.
"We went out with Eric to dinner last night," laughed Rhonda. "Chase wasn't with us so I had to use Doug."
"Some jerk wouldn't take no for an answer," said Doug, "so I stepped in and reminded him of his manners."
"He definitely has a commanding presence doesn't he?" laughed Chase.
"So I take it your first evening as mates was eventful," said Rhonda. Skye immediately turned bright red.
"What? We just hung out and ate snacks," said Chase.
"Yeah, bull shit," laughed Rhonda.
Eric walked into the lobby and they all noticed that Rocky was with him.
"Rocky!" yipped Skye, running to hug the pup.
"What are you doing here?" asked Chase.
"I had to come meet up with a client," said Rocky indicating Eric.
"Really?" said Chase.
"I told you I sell aircraft parts," laughed Rocky. Chase just raised an eyebrow.
"Well, we also sell aircraft parts," laughed Rocky.
Chase and Rhonda went to shower and change. They returned to find everyone enjoying breakfast and joined them.
"So yes, I had been in Vegas at a trade show when I first met Eric," Rocky was explaining. "We've been friends and work acquaintances ever since."
"So I missed you explaining what you actually do?" laughed Rhonda, sitting down with a plate.
"No, he still only admits to selling aircraft parts," laughed Doug.
"Look, I know about your clearance levels," laughed Rocky, "if you really want to know, you know where to look."
"Really?" laughed Rhonda. "I'm good knowing you are supplying my friends."
Rocky's phone rang, he pulled it out and looked at who was calling. "Uh, let me go take this."
A short time later he returned and noticed Rhonda staring with her mouth open.
"What?" said Rocky, "It's a phone, really."
"Rocky," said Rhonda, "that's a Kyocera Duraforce. I've never actually seen one. Talk about envy."
"Oh, I helped design part of this," laughed Rocky, "You want one?"
"That thing is completely waterproof and works with cell or satellite comms," said Chase. "I would have killed for one of those in the desert."
"You can actually use it underwater," laughed Rocky, "not that I would know."
Chase told a story about it taking everyone in the Lookout to get Rocky to take a bath sometimes. Everyone laughed.
"Hey I got better," laughed Rocky, turned and looked at Chase, "So you finally did it huh?"
"Yeah, I could wait any longer," said Chase.
"Well, I'm really happy for you both," said Rocky, "So have you told Everest yet?"
"I was going to call her this morning," said Skye.
"I figured, I haven't received the invite yet," laughed Rocky, "You know she won't let you get by without at least a party."
"I know," agreed Skye. "So where are you heading? I could drop you off and save you the trouble of dealing with commercial flights."
"I'm actually headed back to Adventure Bay. I decided to take up Zuma's offer to stay for a while."
"What about you Chase?" asked Skye, "Where do you have to go next?"
Chase looked over at Rhonda who nodded, "I think Adventure Bay sounds like a perfect honeymoon location."
"Sounds great," said Skye, "I'll go call Ev and make sure she has room."
"Of course I have room," said Everest. "If not I'll make room. In this case, we only have a couple guest families. I assume Rocky is staying at Zuma's. Does Rhonda and Doug want a cabin together?"
"W-what do you mean?" said Skye.
"Well, since the two of you are going to be busy," laughed Everest, "I figured they hit it off pretty good. I know they won't sleep in the same room but the same cabin should probably be fine since they are going to end up entertaining themselves together."
"I should have known you'd already know. I was going to call and tell you this morning," laughed Skye.
"Chase actually told Marshall his plan," laughed Everest, "Chase couldn't help himself about telling someone about your new jet and his proposal idea. And of course Marshall has never been able to keep a secret."
"He liked to have lost his mind trying to keep the secret," laughed Skye, "He managed and I'll admit both the jet and his proposal surprised me."
"Just so you know the second Marshall admitted to Chase's plan," explained Everest, "I started planning the party."
"I figured," laughed Skye, "We'll be in this evening. I have no idea what all Chase has planned. I guess we'll play it by ear until we figure out each other's schedules."
The group landed in Adventure Bay. Marshall and Everest as well as Zuma were waiting on everyone. They rode back to the resort to discuss the party.
"So what have you decided on living arrangements?" asked Marshall.
"Actually we haven't gotten that far yet," admitted Chase. "I guess we haven't even discussed that topic."
"Oh, been a little busy?" snickered Marshall.
"Well you know," said Chase, blushing a little.
"Hey buddy," said Marshall, "I can't tell you how happy both Everest and I are for you two."
"So have you decided where you are going to live?" asked Everest.
"We haven't really discussed that part yet," said Skye. "I suppose until he decides on a permanent location we'll call home wherever he is stationed."
"I suppose that works," laughed Everest, "It's not like either of you stay in one spot for very long. But I need to know where to send mail."
"No he's traveling and I am flying," said Skye. "Chase got informed that he can use me as his permanent travel service."
"That's good," said Everest, "At least you'll know where he is."
The girls continued planning the party and making sure everyone was notified. The party was the following day.
It was great. The Paw Patrol was back together to take a picture. And of course the couples took a picture as a group as well as individually.
The following morning Chase and Rhonda had returned from their morning exercise. Chase received a call and after hanging up returned to the porch as Skye had joined Rhonda.
"So Skye, are you ready to see what your jet can do?" asked Chase.
"What do you mean?" asked Skye. "I'll take you wherever you need to go."
"Well this one is a little different," said Chase, Rhonda raised an eyebrow.
"What have you agreed to now?" asked Rhonda, "I'm not letting Skye fly us into a war zone."
"No nothing like that, it's still class," said Chase, "it's just 3 classes in 3 locations, slightly globally spread out."
"Ok enough of you know what footing," laughed Rhonda. "What have you signed us up for?"
"Well we would need to fly back to Germany and pick up our supplies," explained Chase, "then we would fly to Japan for a class, then on to Hawaii for the second, then to Toronto for the third, then I guess back here for some rest."
"You literally want me to fly you around the world?" laughed Skye.
"Well not all in one setting," said Chase, "We would have a couple days at each location."
"It's a deal if you take me to the beach in Hawaii," laughed Skye.
"Yeah, my thoughts exactly," agreed Rhonda.
"Ok, well I guess it's a good thing I said Yes," laughed Chase. "We'll need to be at Yokota Air Base next Monday morning. I guess Skye, figure out when we need to leave to fly through Germany. I'll have the supplies brought to the airport and then we can go on or whatever you need to do."
"I'll get Doug to come with us," said Skye, "That way if I need to rest, he can take the controls for a while."
"Sounds good," said Chase.
"So this is going to be our life for a while, hum?" laughed Skye.
"This is the first time we've been asked to do it like this," explained Chase. "But this is my thing right now."
"As long as I'm with you," said Skye, "I'm a happy pup."
"Well you go shopping for your new bathing suit, " said Chase, "and I'll plan out my presentations."
Skye, Everest, and Rhonda all went to town to shop for Skye and Rhonda's bathing suits.
The girl began plotting something and decided to go have lunch before heading back to the lodge.
Skye walked into the cabin to plan the flights as well as file the flight plans. Everest went to make a few calls and Rhonda decided to take a nap.
