THE OTHER WAY ROUND
Chapter 2
It's a good thing that the academy had private jets, cuz a normal check in-boarding crap would've pissed me off more if possible.
As I sunk down my not-so-comfortable seat I was sleepy as sleeping beauty. The other 5 guardians who came with us didn't look fun… well no one would if they are being dragged at 5pm [5 am for the vampire world] to bring back some crooky teenager… I was not liking these boys already.
Kirova was gonna give them a hell of a punishment. Even though these boys ruined my sleep I sort of want them to be okay once they come back to the academy cuz there are gonna be a lot of rumours and gossip once they set foot inside the academy .
As I was thinking about these things I felt a hand tap my shoulder. I looked up. It was mason. He was wearing light blue jeans and a black tshirt that I gave him on his 22nd birthday. Thank god he wasn't wearing the formal guardian uniform like the other guardians on board.
"hey! Guardian Pace gave me the student data file of the boys, thought you might wanna take a look" he said handing me 2 blue files.
"thanks mase"
He gave me a sweet smile and went over to his seat.
I opened the bottom file first. Dimitri Aleksandr Belikov it was written.
Hmm so ivan's bestfriend's name was Dimitri.
He was described as tall, with shoulder length hair, muscular and handsome…
Handsome?
Well I wouldn't be surprised if a woman filled in this data. He was known to grab every girls's attention. Sort of reminded me of myself… how almost every moroi and dhampir wanted to sleep with me… at first I liked the attention but after some time I realized that it will ruin my reputation and chances of being Lissa's guardian. But its unfair that she gets to enjoy her life and be a normal teenager with a nice boyfriend, parties, gossip friends and no worries of future until graduation… but I soon realized that this was life… she was my moroi and I was her dhampir.
Soooo Belikov was the top of his class before he left… why would he leave then?
What would've gone wrong? Why did they just ran away?
There were a million questions in my mind right now.
I tried to take these things off my head and focus on more important things… like sleeping!
But all in vain. Its just that flights and me don't go well, it's a blessing that I didn't threw up.
FINALLY! We landed.
There was a guardian sent to pick us up and drop us just a few blocks before the boys' apartment. We all quickly took our positions.
Guardian Pace and Guardian Specter stood behind the trees of their building exit. A guardian was waiting in the car. As for me and Mason, we stood close enough to attack them together he stood behind the building wall keeping an eye on there kitchen window. It was closed but I could see the shadow movements like they were talking with each other. Then suddenly the kitchen was lit up with bright lights.
Oh crap! Did they saw us?
A tall guy with shoulder length hair and a slightly tan skin came in the scene and opened the fridge door and took out a bottle of orange juice.
"That's Dimitri… and that's ivan" I thought as I saw another guy come besides him. He had dirty blonde hair and was tall and lanky, but not as tall as Dimitri.
They seem to be arguing on something but one look from Dimitri and Ivan got quiet. I couldn't see dimitri's face becuz of his hair but he was certainly giving his friend 'the look'.
Dimitri gave him an encouraging nod for I-don't-know-what reason.
But in just a blink of an eye Ivan's fangs were on dimitri's neck.
I gasped and so did mason.
Ivan was feeding… on Dimitri.
The other guardian's sneered in disgust. Mason glanced at me, he looked kinda upset too. I knew that he used to teach Dimitri when he was about 16. And seeing ur student pulling such a horrific stunt was not easy.
Even though I was a bit shook, I knew that it was all for a good cause.
I mean moroi needed blood to survive its not like they could pick that up from seven-eleven.
I suddenly had a lil respect for him. He being a dhampir, is letting his best friend feed on him. He actually was more fierce than I thought.
I suddenly saw myself and lissa at their places… I also would've done what dimitri's doing, without second thoughts. As they were done Ivan pulled Dimtri for a hug. Dimitri chuckled and hugged him back and then pulled away a second later.
When after they were done I spoke the orders to go inside the building, to the guardians from my walkie talkie but just then their rabbit or hamster or whatever saw me and squeaked. And I was caught…
At first I thought they didn't saw me but well it seems like they did because they were throwing their stuff inside there bags.
"Guardian Hathaway here!" I spoke on the walkie talkie "I command to abort the mission right now! Get back to your old positions!"
"are you sure Guardian Hathaway? Is something wrong" guardian pace asked.
"YES! they saw me and now they are getting ready to leave. Get back to your places and catch them as soon as they are out of that building" I said
"got it!" guardian specter said, and within seconds they were to there old places. I flashed them a thumbs up and they nodded in agreement.
After a few minutes they walked out of the building with a heavy bags sling over there shoulders.
Guardian pace was the first one to jump on them, but I guess Dimitri already sensed that cuz he shoved Ivan behind his back and started throwing punches and kicks vigorously. His efforts were commendable, but his punches were rusty. I was surprised that he thought he could take a guardian down.
As he managed to get guardian pace on the floor I knew that Specter was planning to pounce of him from the back, but i also knew that he must be tired from that little blood donation he made. I waved my hand at him to stop. He understood quickly. I thought it was the best that we handle this as adults so I told mason to tell the driver to get the car to us.
I walked out from the tree and stepped on the road. Atleast 12 feet away from me Dimitri and Ivan stood. Ivan looked scared meanwhile Dimitri braced himself for a fight.
"I'm Rose Hathaway. And im here to take you back to the academy, Prince Zeklos." I said. Though I was talking to Ivan, my eyes were set on Dimitri.
My my…
He looked pretty handsome.. that file did not do him any justice. His brown hair were straight and up in a low ponytail. His dark almost black, brown eyes sparkled under the streetlight.
Now I can see why girls' had there eyes on this man. He was muscular. But not too bulky, they were they perfect. He was tall, so tall.
I looked like a dwarf in front of him. I was glad that I had my fierce guardian mask on.
Despite my words he came running towards me and threw a punch while I easily blocked and pushed him hard but gracefully on his chest.
Ivan caught him from falling as he stumbled back… not too graceful for him I guess.
He looked ready for another fight but Ivan muttered him to stop, which im glad that he listened to, cuz I was in no mood to fight.
I saw mason coming with the cars and stopped them just behind me. I signaled the guardians to get inside their cars.
"Now. Will you 2 be good boys and get into that car? Or should we spar again ?" I asked Dimitri In a mocking tone.
Without saying a word they got in the car, I stopped them just in time, "lord Zeklos woud you mind sitting in the other car with Guardian Ashford?" I asked… he very much wanted to say no but he knew I wasn't asking him so he quietly went towards mason's car.
I got inside the car and sat next to Dimitri.. keeping a safe distance between each other.
"to the airport" I said to the driver.
Within 20 mins we reached the airport and then onto our jet.
"keep them away from each other. Just 2 seconds together and they'll come up with an escape plan." I said to the guardians.
Dimitri was made seated 10 seats away from Ivan. 1st I sat down with Ivan. We didn't talk much, I offered him water and something to eat from the food trolley.
I did caught him staring at me quiet a few times… and lemme tell you it was not out of fear.
After a few moments I got up and sat down the seat next to Dimitri.
I knew he saw me coming but he continued to stare out of the window. I sat next to him thinking what to say.
"why did you fight us? Did you really thought that you could take down 3 guardians?" I asked him
He didn't answer so I continued "it was stupid to do that, but kinda brave too. Ivan must mean a lot to you."
"He is." He replied.
He had such a hot Russian accent.
Hot?
Rose for gods sake he's a novice!
"he's my bestfriend. And I'm his guardian. Im suppose to protect him." He said looking at me.
Air was stuck between my throat. He was so… handsome. He really didn't looked 17. Why didn't I had such amazing boys during my time?!
Rose snap out of it! He's a student. And you shouldn't be thinking about a student like that!
"very well then" I said "whatever the reason was for you to leave the academy is ur thing… but lemme tell you one thing Dimitri, you headmistress is very angry so good luck for that." With that I got up and left his seat.
I took a quick glance at him. He looked nervous, scared really.
I just hope Kirova gives him a suitable punishment…
After an hour we landed.
When we sat in the SUV making our way to the academy. Our car stood in front of the forest ending area. There was a long gate made of silver. It was the gate to go inside the boundries of . there was another gate a few meters away from this one which was the main gate of the academy this one was just for extra security purposes.
I called the security desk to open the gates but got no response. There was some rustling in the bushes. It wasn't an animal because the moroi magic kept them miles away…. There's got to be only one thing.
I looked at Specter who sat at the front passenger seat. From the look at his face I knew that we both were thinking the same thing…..
Strigoi.
When I turned back to see the car behind us I could see that mason also knew that there were strigoi.
"I-I should go to ivan" Dimitri said "I should go protect him!"
As he was about to unlock the doors I grabbed him hand and swiftly pinned him on his seat, with me on top of him. There was no way in hell I was gonna let him get out of that car.
"there's no way in hell you are leaving this car. Do. You. Understand." I whisper-yelled at him.
He had fear in his eyes. I know he wanted to be there with Ivan. Protect him. But he cant cuz he will be dead in no time.
"ivan has 3 guardians with him. You don't need to worry bout him." I said in a convincing tone.
He nodded.
I could feel his warm breath… then I just realized what position we were in. I quickly yet quietly got off him but didn't leave his arm.
Stupid! Inappropriate! My mind kept chanting.
There was a heavy silence. I could actually hear my heartbeat on volume 30.
Just then 2 strigois jumped from the trees and stood right in front of our cars. I nodded at Specter and took out my silver stake from underneath my oversized jumper.
"don't you dare leave. If your life is dear to you hide in there…" I said in a stern voice pointing towards the space between the seats. "stay there! And don't come out."
As I got out a strigoi ran towards me. I saw the look of horror on Dimitri's face and quickly shut the car door hoping that he would lock it from the inside.
The strigoi was very muscular and quite tall, he had ruby red eyes and white chalky skin. I figured it would be hard to fight him but screw that! Im Rose-freaking-Hathaway! The best guardian of my age!
I slashed my stake against his cheek and he groaned in pain, it looked like he was about to kick me but instead he punch me, catching me off guard.
Im not even gonna lie… it hurt like HELL!
I continued to kick him, punch him… doing everything that I could do to catch him off guard and stake his heart but finally with a slash of my stake at his neck his chest was left un protected and without wasting a second I drove my stake into his heart.
Dimitri's POV:
I was in the car hiding like rose told me to, but im kept checking on ivan his fingers were still placed on the dashboard. He was okay.
I moved up slightly and saw the guardians fighting 3 strigois. Ive never seen them in real just in those documentries that was shown to us during classes. 2 guardians were fighting with one strigoi in a corner. The redhead guardian who had a crush on Rose, was fighting with a lady strigoi.
Meanwhile, Rose was fighting with a tall muscular one. She was like a dwarf infront of him but she sure was kicking his butt.
She was fighting with such grace and amazing focus. When I first saw her walking down that road I got goosebumps… when she told us she was a guardian I was actually surprised. She was so beautiful. Just perfect in every way. She could've been a perfect model.
Dimitri you shouldn't think like that! She's a guardian. She's so older than you!
I watched rose in awe as she staked the strigoi. She was breathing heavily. I wanted to go out and get her inside the car. Make sure she was okay.
But I knew I couldn't do that.
She was standing there as the other guardians finished off the strigois, but then I saw a shadow falling on the car. I was sure as hell that it wasn't a guardian. And to make it even worse the strigoi was planning to attack rose. He quietly took his steps. He was just across ivan's car, thank god he didn't saw him. But what about rose? She cant die!
Without thinking I opened the car doors and rushed to rose's side.
She turned around and gasp as she saw me "Dimitri" she breathed.
She looked at the strigoi who, now seemed more interested in me than her. He came rushing towards us.
I froze.
I had no idea what to do.
What should I do.
The training that I got since I was 6… I forgot it. All of it.
Rose arm grabbed my waist and she pulled me behind herself. I was too stunned to move. I was seeing a FREAKING strigoi.
Rose quickly started fighting with him. I just stood there, unable to move. The rest of there fight was blur in my eyes. Until I heard the strigoi groan in pain.
Rose had staked him. She killed him.
She saved me.
I saw that the rose was lying on the ground with a stake through his heart.
The red head came by rose's side, bent down and pulled her stake out of the bad vampire and cleaned it with a hankerchief. "2 kills for one night. Not bad Hathaway! Welcome back rose" he said handing her the stake. The other guardians looked at her in respect. She was younger than the other 3 guardians but still they had so much respect for her.
I mean no doubt she was good. Great actually.
She turned her gaze on me. she looked mad. Very mad.
This is not going to be good.
"what. the. hell. were. you. thinking?" she demanded. Her words made me flinch. Though her tone was terrifying but still there were some other emotions in her eyes… care? Concern?
I know it sounded stupid but she looked kinda scared herself.
"i-Im sorry" I stammered "he was coming at you and I didn't know what to do…"
"so you would just jump in between, ready to face a strigoi?" she asked
"im sorry rose but-"
I was cut in between by the redhead guardian "rosie just let the boy breathe… and anyway he's alive that's all that matters and anyways I think he should save his apologies for Kirova." He chuckled after a second rose started smiling too…
She looked so mesmerising when she smiles.
I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy when that guardian called rose with a nickname.
Im not supposed to feel like this. I know !
But I just do.
