Tony hightailed it out of the bullpen and Ziva didn't know whether or not to be amused or annoyed at this. Either way, at least she was now left in peace and could actually return to work. First, of course, she had to reply to Nettie and thank her for the photographs. This first one was definitely one that she wanted to have and she was sure the others she sent were similar. The little previews that the email provided looked like they were all of her and Tali. She was never going to complain about having photos of Tali.
A quick flick through the four that were sent confirmed this. Though, Ziva wasn't entirely sure why Nettie included the one of Tali running away from the camera, her figure a blur. She would have to ask if Nettie remembered the story behind that one because she could not recall such an incident. Tali normally loved having her picture taken. Then there was the one where she had insisted a picture be taken, she was showing off Tali's hair - she had finally managed to learn how to do a French plait and was extremely proud of it. Tali had complained the whole time - apparently Ziva tugged too hard on her hair - but that had all been forgotten when she had seen the result. She had declared that she had 'princess' hair and had shown it off to whoever had wanted to see it as well as people well probably didn't. Ziva shook her head fondly at the memory. The plait hadn't even been that good, Tali's hair was so curly that there had been bits sticking out. But Tali hadn't cared. She thought it was pretty.
A cough from Gibbs brought her back to the present.
"Is there a reason is your aunt in cahoots with DiNozzo?" He asked her.
Ziva furrowed her brows in confusion. "Cahoots?"
She did not think she had ever heard that word before.
"Plotting as a team," he explained.
"Ah. And I do not understand why they have suddenly become friends. But it is not a good thing," she said quite seriously.
"Anything DiNozzo is up to is rarely a good thing," Gibbs said with a snort.
Now that Ziva could easily agree with. The man could be a menace. Oh, he was an amazing partner - the best she'd ever had - but that did not make him any less of a menace.
"Don't let whatever he's up to become a problem again," he warned.
"I am not in control of what Tony does," she said in an offended tone.
Tony did whatever he felt like until he caused a problem of some sort. She could not control that.
"I'm giving him the same instructions about you."
Ziva's had dropped open, properly offended now but Gibbs just raised an eyebrow at her and she found that she could not argue.
"More beach photos?" He asked, nodding at her computer screen.
"Not this time," she replied. "Though, they are of me and Tali at Haifa when we were children."
She was surprised that photos of them not at the beach in Haifa existed. They had spent almost all of their time there on the sands and jumping in the waves. Hours and hours. Only going inside for food and to sleep. And sometimes they just bought street food for lunch or dinner so they did not go inside even then.
"Spend a lot of time up there?"
Ziva nodded. "Yes."
Almost all of her free time. And it really was free. Free of responsibilities. Free from the shadow of her father. He did not get on well with her Grandparents, his father and mother, so he simply did not come. She was just thankful that he never prevented her and Tali from going. Not that her Grandparents would have allowed it. They always seemed to win when it came to her father.
She thought for a moment and then turned her screen to him to show him the photo that had made her smile, attracting Tony's attention. It wasn't an embarrassing or particularly personal photo. Though, she did like this photo more than the beach ones. She had just wanted Tony to not get his way for a change.
It was of her and Tali, not standing beside each other like two people normally would be in a posed photograph. No, this one was of Tali on her back. Unlike when Ziva normally carried around her sister on her back, this time she was not holding Tali's legs, keeping her steady. This was because when whoever was behind the camera - Ziva could not remember who - had called for a picture, Tali had decided that her being on Ziva's back would make the perfect picture and had promptly jumped on her. Ziva had not been prepared for this assault at all and it was only because of her quick reflexes (Yes, she had them even as a child) that they did not end up tumbling to the floor. Oh, the telling off she had given her little sister as soon as the picture had been taken. A telling off Tali had paid no attention too as she complained about being unceremoniously dumped on the floor. She had not seemed to care that they both could have crashed into something and been injured by her stunt only that Ziva had not caught her properly.
Tali had spent another few minutes chasing Ziva around trying to get her to give her a ride on her back. Something Ziva had refused to do because she did not want to be jumped on again. Thankfully their Savta had come out with fresh mint lemonade before it devolved into them rolling around on the floor, fighting. Mint lemonade made everything better.
"That Tali?"
"Yes."
Gibbs didn't say anything for a moment but she was pretty sure that his eyes softened just a little bit.
"You both look happy."
"We were."
It was easy to be happy in Haifa.
