(Present Time)
Ellie Age: 19
Enid: Age 20
Enid had woke up the next morning, feeling cold. Her head was aching something awful.
She felt nauseous and felt very tired. Her concussion was making her feel confused, not remembering what caused her concussion to begin with.
Carefully, she pushed her bruised body up to help her sit up. "Oh ... fuck," She groaned, keeping both hands at her sides, feeling the soft, leathery material of the ottoman she laid on. Her body ached too.
She puts her shirt, denim vest, and her jacket back on and she found her backpack laying by the door to the dressing room.
"Ellie? Dina? Jesse?" she called, walking out of the dressing room.
She called their names as she pushed the dirty red curtains out of the way so she could get through it.
Stepping out on the stage, she saw that she was the only one in the big theater area.
"They must've gone upstairs," she said to herself, climbing down from the stage so she wouldn't irritate her head.
She saw the guitar she found leaning against the theater seats. Playing a little guitar wouldn't hurt anything.
Enid walked to the que guitar and licked the acoustic instrument by its neck and sat down in one of the seats, setting the guitar
across her lap.
She adjusted the turning pegs on the headstock to where she needed it. She started to Play Johnny Cash's cover 'Hurt' that had been done by Nine Inch Nails.
As she played the song, her eyes filled with tears, making it hard for her to finish playing. But she did and held the guitar for a few minutes, reflecting on the songs lyrics.
Enid sighed and ran her hands along the side of the guitar before setting it down next to her.
She pushed herself from the seat and jogged upwards towards the doors that led to the front entrance of the theater.
Enid opened the door and saw Jesse sitting in a chair in front of Dina , who laid on a couch with a blanket, looking ill. She didn't see Ellie though.
Jesse got up from the chair when Enid walked in.
"Hey," She softly said, seeing that Dina was sleeping.
"Hey, how're you feeling?" Jesse asked, gently patting Enid on the shoulder.
"Sore as hell, but I'll be okay. Truth is, can't remember much from yesterday," Enid replied with a shrug.
"Yeah , Ellie was telling me you got a Concussion," Jesse said.
"It wasn't that bad," Enid denied, thinking her injury wasn't all that bad. She didn't remember it was.
"She said it was , " Jesse said. Enid looked around for Ellie. "Where is she?" She asked him.
" Sleeping still . You oughta go check on her," Jesse replied , sitting down on that chair again.
"Alright," Enid said, turning back around towards the theater auditorium.
She walked back inside the her auditorium, but not before taking off backpack and setting it down by the doorway.
She walked down the aisle of seats and climbed back onto the stage. Her head ached again as she made her way towards another dressing room.
Quietly , Enid walked into the room next to the room she slept in . Ellie was sleeping on the couch that sat in the furthest corner of the room.
Enid's heart raced when she saw this; She forgot how cute Ellie looked when she was sleeping.
Enid knelt down in front of her ad friend and grasped her shoulder. "Ellie. Ellie, wake up," She whispered , shaking her a bit to wake her up.
Ellie stirred and opened her eyes. "Enid?" the red-head groaned, sitting up on the couch, rubbing her eyes.
"Jesse said I oughta come check on you," Enid said, sitting next to her. " Oh. I see. How're you doing after... Y'know?" Ellie asked, a bit hesitant.
"Ellie, I'm okay, but I don't remember much from yesterday. Guess I hit my head pretty hard, didn't I?" Enid said, grinning a bit. "You did. Not to mention, you had breathed in spores when we went after Nora," Ellie said, treading carefully.
Enid sure as hell didn't remember breathing in the spores or even remember brutally killing Nora to get answer on where Abby was.
"Oh ... I see," Enid said , rubbing the spot where she hit her head, she looked at her hands, seeing no sign of infection.
"I forgot I'm immune too," Enid said, dropping her hands on her lap. Ellie nodded, still in shock after learning this discovery.
"Yeah, neither did I," She replied.
"Who knew was, huh? l" Enid said with a smile.
"Yeah," replied, not realizing how close she was to Enid's face.
Enid looked over and saw that she was very close to Ellie.
"Oh, sorry about that," She gasped, backing up a bit.
Ellie grinned, blushing. "It's okay. I'm glad you're alright," Ellie said awkwardly.
Enid stood up and stretched her sore limbs.
"Yeah, c'mon, let's get going. Dina was sleeping when I saw her last," Enid said , trying to break the awkward tension between them.
Enid had been very close to kissing Ellie again, but an important thought came to her.
'No, I can't think that way. Ellie's with Dina. I can't get between them . If Ellie's happy with her, then I oughta be happy too,' she thought as she and Ellie make their way where Jesse was.
He was still sitting in that chair, watching over a sleeping Dina.
They sauntered over to a balcony that overlooked the front Entrance and leaned on it, not saying a word.
"She had a rough night. Barely could get her to Keep water down," Jesse sighed, pressing his palms against the railing of the balcony.
Ellie looked over to her friend, appearing worried, "You should've woke me up," Ellie said quietly. They were quiet again for a few Seconds before Jesse uttered," Is she pregnant?"
Ellie perked up when Jesse asked that
"Yeah," She replied.
Jesse leaned over the railing with his hands clasped together.
"I get why you came out here, but we gotta take her back. Maybe take you back, Enid," Jesse said, glancing over at Enid, knowing her concussion wasn't good and she needed to rest her head.
"Jesse, I don't need to go back, I'm okay , " Enid stubbornly said, "Besides we can't leave Uncle Tommy. He's out here because of Ellie and I,"
Ellie glanced over at Enid knowing
She was right about Tommy. They couldn't leave him vulnerable to those WLF's.
"Yeah. Maybe you could take her back," Ellie suggested. "She ain't gonna leave without you, Ellie," Enid said, voice soft.
Ellie glanced over at Enid and sighed in defeat. She pushed herself off the railing.
"Yeah," she muttered.
Enid looked down for a minute, trying to find what to say.
"Screw it," Jesse said, sounding somewhat exasperated, "Let's get Tommy. This aquarium that girl told you about, Enid. Tommy hadn't found Abby yet. We'll post up there until he does,"
Jesse took out the map and gave it to Ellie and Enid so the could look it over together. "And you're good with leaving Dina by herself?" Ellie asked making a good point.
"Yeah, as sick as she is, doesn't seem like it's a good idea," Enid agreed. Jesse looked over at the two young women in subtle disbelief.
"Her orders," Jesse said. "Okay," Ellie sighed, pushing back from the the map in her hands.
"Let's go," Enid said, heaving a sigh.
"You feel up to going, Enid? You're still recovering," Ellie asked, worried for her old friend.
"Ellie, I'm going. I'll be okay. If my head gives me trouble that I can't handle, I'll go back, okay?" Enid said, hoping it would convince Ellie enough to let her come along.
Ellie was reluctant; she remembered just how scared she felt when Enid had gotten hurt by the hands of that Seraphite she killed. It had made her nose bleed. Truthfully, she wasn't healed all the way to keep going.
"Okay. You better keep your word on that," Elle replied, sighing deeply, " Let's go tell Dina we're leaving then,"
"Enid and I'll meet you outside," Jesse told her to which Ellie nodded.
Enid watched Ellie go around the corner to where Dina was.
She looked down for a minute and made her way to the first floor and she stepped outside and she stepped into the rain.
Jesse followed after her and saw Enid Standing outside in the rain alone.
"You okay?" he asked, making her jump.
"Jesus, Jesse! Warning next time!" she exclaimed, taking a few steps back. Jesse cracked a smile at her reaction.
"My apologies. You're lost in thought and it had me concerned," Jesse replied, standing to next to her. Enid glanced up at him.
Jesse was a great guy. He knew to lend a helping hand to his friends when they needed it. "Oh, sorry," Enid said, looking away from him.
"Look, talk to me. You can do that, y'know," Jesse said, partly joking and part actually serious. "I'm fine, Jesse," Enid vaguely said, but Jesse wasn't buying it.
"You can't fool me, c'mon, level with me, I can tell something is going on. This isn't because of Ellie and Dina being together, is it?" Jesse asked.
"Yeah, but... Look, I'm not gonna come between Ellie and Dina. Yeah, Ellie and I were together but... I just want her to be happy. And see she's happy with Dina. I'm not going to lose our friendship over something as-as pitiful as jealousy," Enid explained honestly.
"I see. You care about each other , like how care for Dina, how I care about all of you," Jesse replied, "All you can do is make sure that you keep each other alive and stick with them,"
Enid grinned at him. "Thanks, Jesse," she said, feeling grateful for Jesse's advice. A big part of her did still love Ellie, more than just a friend like before.
But she knew this was for the best, for both of them, staying just as close friends and not intimate whatsoever.
Ellie walks out of the theater after telling Dina they were leaving and that She needed to lock the door behind them.
"Let's do it," Jesse said after going through his backpack for a minute.
They pressed on until the sink hole that was in the road, which had been caved in a long time ago.
They'd have to climb up to get to the rest of the road.
"That map of yours showed the aquarium the shore. Should be down this way," towards the sinkhole Jesse said, walking in the middle of the road.
"Yeah," Ellie said with a disgruntled shrug.
Enid looked up at the muggy grey sky, feeling the rain drops fall onto her face like bullets.
"Fucking hell, how does anyone stay dry in this city? " Enid complained, covering her face.
"Like, for real. It's really annoying as hell," Ellie agreed, rolling her shoulders.
They jogged down the slanted part of the sink hole. "C'mon, help me up," Jesse said, standing beside the higher part of the sinkhole.
Ellie clashed her hands together to help Jesse up.
"Alright, go for it," she said as she helped him up.
Once he was up, he laid down on his front to help Ellie up before they'd help Enid up.
Enid helped Ellie partly with Jesse pulling her up the rest of the way.
"Alright, gimme your hand, Enid," Ellie said, reaching down for Enid's hand.
Enid grabbed Ellie's hand and was Pulled up onto the road. "Thanks," She said. "Not a problem," Ellie nodded.
After they climbed up , the trio moved on down the street.
"Hey, what'd you tell Dina?" Jesse asked as they jogged down the grass-covered street.
"That we're hoping to find Tommy at the
aquarium. I didn't tell her if you knew, if that's what you're-" Ellie replied.
"No, I wasn't," Jesse said, going inside an opened building that looked like a bank or something to that standard.
"So this aquarium WLF base?" Jesse asked.
"I don't think so," Ellie replied, looking through a few drawers to find supplies.
"Nora told me Abby's hidin' out there," Enid said, finding bullets.
"Enid, you get her to tell you why they did it?" Jesse asked the eldest woman.
Enid looked down for a second, pondering this. "Yeah, like me, my dad had a falling out with the fireflies," Enid said.
"What kind of falling out?" Jesse asked curiously.
"He was a smuggler. And they disagreed about some goods. Fight broke out. Some of them died. Guess they wanted payback," Ellie explained, walking out of the building and jogged down the broken up road.
Jesse and Enid follow her down the road. "Damn. That change anything for you guys?
Jesse asked.
"Nope," Ellie replied.
"Didn't do much for either one of us. " Enid said with a shoulder shrug.
"Okay, let get my head around this. If we find Tommy, both of you good with going home?" Jesse asked them.
"Yeah," Ellie said for the both of them.
"You guys would be leaving some of those assholes alive," Jesse said, making a good point.
"Dina should be in Jackson," Ellie said, "You need to go back to Enid,"
"Ellie..." Enid said, a tad bit annoyed.
They continue on further, the rain falling on their heads.
The trio go inside another dark building so they turned their flashlights so they could see what was ahead of them.
"You two ever worry they're gonna come back to Jackson after us?" Jesse asked.
Ellie and Enid don't respond and duck under a tipped over vending machine that was being held up by a couple of heavy objects.
They get through that building and push
a metal shelf out of the way of a hole in the wall.
They climb into a narrow space between
a truck and it's trailer.
"I gotta ask, why didn't she tell me about the pregnancy?" Jesse asked.
"Look, I'm sure she'll tell you about-" Ellie said, but a voice cut her off.
There were more WLF's ahead of them, so they quickly got down behind a road pillar.
"It's going down today! All the units are being rounded up," one declared loudly.
"Who'd you hear it from?" another soldier asked.
"Top man himself. We make sure this area's clear, wait for the other units, and then take the fight to the Scars," the First soldier said.
Ellie and Enid pull out their rifle and shotgun.
The two raise up with their firearms raised up.
Both fired and shot down two of them in the head. Enid had Shot one in the neck , killing him instantly.
The others started to scatter at their members being shot down. Enid moves up while staying crouched.
She went around to get the jump on them . She'd flank these asshole.
Ahead of her was a lone soldier, who walked passed her with a Semi-Automatic Rifle in her hands, finger on the trigger.
Enid waited for the right moment before making the jump on the soldier.
She grabbed the soldiers' gun and tussled around with her for a minute, yelling out with effort. "Get the fuck off me, you little bitch!" the soldier shouted, shoving her to the ground with her gun.
Enid fell to the ground with a yell of her pain from her head. The soldier dropped down and wrapped her hands around Enid's throat and she began to strangle her.
Enid began to fight the soldier off, struggling to breathe.
"Die, you-" the soldier shouted, only for Ellie to appear behind her.
She pulled the soldier off and stabbed the side of her neck.
"Don't you fucking touch her, you cunt," Ellie seethed in the soldiers' ear, driving her knife deeper into the soldiers' neck, killing her.
"Whoa," Jesse said, "That'll do it,"
Ellie put her switchblade away and helped Enid to her feet.
"Are you okay?" she asked in worry.
Enid's head ached from the impact of the ground when that soldier hit her. "I'm okay," Enid replied, rubbing the back of her head.
"Does your head hurt any?" Jesse asked . "A little. That bitch had it coming. Thanks for the save, Ellie," Enid replied.
Ellie gave her a couple of pills to help with the pain.
'Not a problem. Try not to get yourself killed, please," Ellie said in relief.
Enid took the pills and swallowed them . gratefully. "Thanks for the tip," Enid said, rubbing her head.
"These WLF's, man. So trigger-happy," Jesse said with a groan.
They walked inside another building and turned their flashlights on.
"They're at war with this fucked up cult , " Ellie clarified.
"Heard them talk about it, "Sera-Phines " or something 'Seraphites?'" Jesse wondered ,
"Well, Scars is what Ellie and I heard. Have you seen any?" Enid asked.
"No," Jesse said.
"You're lucky," Ellie replied.
They move further in the building, finding a good-amount of items in the drawers, on tables that were covered in plant life and mold.
They leave and jog down the street, making their way towards a building called.
'Seattle Conference Building', where a Comicon event taken place when the had taken place before the apocalypse happened.
Ellie and Enid beamed when they saw the amount of posters that were from comic books that were on the walls. They couldn't believe their eyes.
"What's up with all the posters?" Jesse asked , curious about the posters that hung from the walls
"It's a bunch of comics," Ellie mused.
"What was happening here? Looks like it's right up our alley," Enid asked, knowing how much her and Ellie loved those things.
"I'm guessing a gathering for people who were into this stuff?" Jesse wondered.
"As I said, up our alley, sight Ellie?" Enid Pondered thoughtfully Ellie smiled warmly at Enid, knowing it was true.
"Yeah it sure is," she replied, "We were born in the wrong time, man,"
"Damn straight," Enid agreed. They climbed out of the building by climbing over a truck that was wedged in a hole in the wall.
After crawling under a truck, Jesse asked, "About what you said earlier... about Dina. You said she'll tell me when..."
"Once things are wrapped up here," Ellie
guess at some point, it'll be hard to hide it," Jesse said," You think she's going to keep it?"
He was feeling doubtful about this whole situation.
They climbed over some debris and climbed a truck. Ahead, they saw how far the Ferris wheel actually was.
It was blocked off by the thick mist and fog.
On the road, were an abundance of vehicles, roadblocks that laid on the broken up road.
"Enid , let me see the map," Ellie said , observing the road.
"Sure thing," she said, pulling out the map.
Ellie took the map and pointed at where the aquarium was located.
"We go by the Ferris wheel, then we should be there in no time," Enid said, pointing to where the Ferris wheel was.
" Here's to hoping Tommy has the dame info," Jesse said as Ellie put the map away. The trio jump down from the truck and see water below them.
"Damn it. Looks like we're swimming," Jesse sighed.
Enid and Ellie jumped in the cold water and swim around a crevice in the street and climbed out of it to get to where they needed to go.
They make it up to the next level. After getting through a horde of infected in a parking garage, Ellie finds a way around so they could move on.
They found another body of water below them.
"Alright. Who's going first? " Enid asked, seeing that nobody was jumping in the water.
"After you," Jesse said, offering. Ellie jumped in first before Enid. Jesse jumped in once they were in the water.
There wasn't a way they could climb up so they didn't have any choice but to dive under.
They eventually made it to an unknown building but there was only a bit of space to crawl through up top.
Ellie looked up at the hole, seeing that they were big enough to fit through.
"There might be a way through here," Jesse said.
"Yeah, let's check it out," Ellie said with a shrug. Enid clasped her hands together to boost Ellie up.
"Up you go," Enid grunted as she hoisted the red-head up. Once she was up, he turned herself around and lowered her hand which Enid grabbed.
Ellie pulled Enid up on the platform. Ellie and Enid helped Jesse up afterwards.
They jumped down and found themselves inside a book store.
"You guys coulda told me to come with you, if you told me you were leaving," Jesse said as they went inside the store.
They find a giant hole in the floor. It was big enough to see the first floor of the store. "Well, I left before Ellie did," Enid said.
"Yeah, and we didn't think you'd be okay with all of this," Ellie said, a bit disgruntled.
"I looked up to Joel. What happened to him and you, Enid was messed up," Jesse said.
Enid rubbed her head, on the spot where those WLF's had beat her head in, it made her head ache again.
They jumped down to the lowest level to gather what they could. "He liked you a lot too. He thought Enid and I had a crush on you," Ellie said with a chuckle.
"Really?" Jesse said in surprise. Enid laughed a bit at his reaction.
"Well, you're handsome and but you're not our type," Enid said. "Yean, that's true," Ellie agreed
with a smile.
"What? Asians?" Jesse asking, pretending to be offended. "Yeah, that's obviously what she meant," Ellie sarcastically replied.
Jesse chuckled at this. He couldn't have better friends.
The trio make their way to the lowest level , which was the kid's area.
Water had reached their ankles. Ellie had found a makeshift tree stump with plastic mushrooms on it.
"Pretty messed up, putting fungus in the Kid's section," Jesse said, observing the wall, which had mushrooms drawn on the it.
"Well, mushrooms didn't exactly carry," Ellie said the same meaning back then,"
"I think some you could actually eat," Enid said, looking at the drawings with false innocence.
"Did you guys have a favorite book as a kid ? " Jesse asked.
"Yeah, Battle Ghosts was mine, Enid's is Lord of the Rings," Ellie replied.
"I'm surprised you remembered," Enid said, smiling with amusement.
"How can I not? You've never gone a day . without that damn book," Ellie teased, remembering how much Enid would read that book.
"What's that book about?" Jesse asked, "It's a saga. It's about a group of these reluctant heroes who set forth to save their world from evil of sorts," Enid explained, "It was led by Frodo, a hobbit in the book,"
"Oh... Sounds riveting," Jesse said with interest. "Wait til you actually read it," Enid smiled.
"What about yours, Ellie?" Jesse asked, "It's about these space marines who fight alien ghosts," Ellie replied.
"Sounds like something you'd like," Jesse said mused.
"What about you, smartass?" Ellie asked as she jogged up an escalator.
"Well, my mom only had this one kid's book," Jesse replied.
"What was it?" Enid wondered as she followed Ellie up that escalator.
"The Root Child. About this boy who turns into a tree to save his village," Jesse responded thoughtfully.
"Okay," Ellie said with a shrug. "To keep things fresh, she would improvise different endings," Jesse continued.
Afterwards, they left through a hole that was in the wall.
"Storm's pretty bad... I'm sure it ain't easy driving the boat back here," a WLF Soldier said in the distance.
The trio crouch down behind cover of a road block. "I want to be the first to be on the fucking beach," another soldier complained.
"You'll get your chance. We all will," the first Soldier said with a groan.
Ellie aimed her rifle and shot down one of the soldiers. They shot back, shattering glass that was next to them.
Enid shot back with her pistol, hitting one in the neck. They shot back and forth for a little while, killing a majority of them until there was one left.
Enid discreetly moved over to hide behind a car, but not for long.
Her heart jumped into her throat when she heard heavy panting coming from her right, coming through the tall grass.
Before she knew it, she was tackled to the ground by one of the same dogs she and Ellie saw at the hospital.
"No, no, no!" She shouted in terror, holding the animal off as it tried to bite her neck; The same way Princess had attacked her.
Her heart jumped into her throat, seeing herself in that winter 5 years ago, Ellie
saw this and made no hesitation to save Enid by stabbing it many times to get it off of her.
"Bear!" the dog's handler cried.
Jesse quickly shot the soldier down, leaving the trio the only ones in the area. Enid quickly sat up, still very shaken up from the dog jumping on her.
She heard a sharp ringing in her ears along with a faint heartbeat mixed in with it. Her mouth felt dry and she felt like she was going to throw up and her breaths were heavy and ragged. She was having a panic attack.
Faint cries of her name broke through the incessant ringing in her ears.
Suddenly, she felt hands on her shoulders. "No! Don't touch me!" She screamed, looking around in distress. At first, she didn't recognize who they belonged to and she started fighting to push the assailant away.
The ringing in her ears slowly receded and she heard Ellie's voice becoming more clearer.
"Enid! Enid, look at me. Look at me, it's okay. It's okay… Take a deep breath," Ellie said, kneeling down in front of the frightened young woman.
Enid was struggling to catch her breath; It felt like something was blocking her airway.
"I can't! I can't!" Enid cried, tears running down her flushed face.
"Yes, you can. You can get through this. Watch me," Ellie said, using a soft tone to not scare Enid even more.
Enid's hands were trembling as she grabbed for her jacket, which was wet from the rain.
Slowly, Enid felt herself being able to breathe again as she watched Ellie breathe.
Enid hadn't realized she was sitting beside a car when she began having get panic attack.
"There you go. I'm proud of you, Enid," Ellie told her, sitting down next to her.
Enid felt her heart still hammered in her chest from that ordeal.
"Oh man… I'm sorry…" She panted, feeling her head ache again.
"Jeez, what was that about?" Jesse asked, looking confused by Enid's panic attack.
Ellie looked at him for a minute before looking back at her old friend.
"I need a minute…" Enid said, needing a minute to relax.
Ellie put a hand cautiously on Enid's hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
"Okay. Let me know if you need anything, okay?" She replied.
Enid gently nodded then closed her eyes again.
Ellie then got up and brought Jesse aside to give him more insight into Enid's panic attack when that dog tackled her.
"What happened there? Why was Enid freaked out by that dog?" Jesse asked, worrying about his friend.
Ellie's throat became dry suddenly and she bit her bottom lip.
"She's afraid of dogs. That's why she freaked out like that," she explained.
"Why?" Jesse asked, surprised by this fact because neither her or Enid told him this reason.
"She… She got attacked by a dog that was a soldier in the Boston QZ when she was fifteen and I was fourteen. Her arm was mangled pretty badly. She used to love dogs before that event. She had constant nightmares about what happened," Ellie explained, feeling a lump in her throat.
"Damn… guess that's why she's never said anything about it before," Jesse replied sympathetically.
"She doesn't like to talk about it. It'll just bring those fucked up memories back," Ellie said, glancing over at where Enid sat.
"I see," Jesse sighed, feeling sorry for Enid and how she had to go through that.
A little bit later, Enid got to her feet and she walked over to her two friends, hugging her scarred arm.
"You okay?" Ellie asked, hugging Enid. "Y-Yeah… I'm okay now," She replied, hugging Ellie back.
They saw how Enid was holding her scarred arm. She had a firm grip on it.
Jesse looked down at her arm, and carefully asked if he could take a look at her scar that she had from the dog a the attach.
He hadn't seen it before when Enid had her jacket shed off of her. Enid didn't like looking at it, even Ellie knew how much that that event had traumatized her old friend.
She remembered feeling scared that she thought Enid had gotten bitten by an infected before she Enid lever Knew was immune.
But seeing Enid bleeding out from that attack, it made her think that Enid wouldn't have survived if she hadn't been there.
Reluctantly, Enid rolled here sleeve to reveal the disfigurement of the scar up that was forever engraved in her forearm.
To say Jesse was surprised was an understatement. Enid couldn't look at it, she just couldn't.
"Jeez ..." he said, speechless Enid pushed her sleeve back down, unable to look at it any longer.
"Okay, let's go before I have another panic attack," Enid said, walking away from them. "Man, this Place makes me appreciate Jackson," Jesse said, rolling his shoulders.
"Yeah, me too," Ellie replied.
"Yeah," Enid said with a sharp exhale.
The trio jogged down the street, walked inside a coffee shop and they jogged up some stairs and found some supplies before they left.
They swam through some raging water to get to a office building.
After trekking through the building, which looked like it'd fall apart due to years of rain and neglect, they make it to the next floor.
There was a giant hole in the wall. It gave them full view of the city ahead. Trucks drove along the road in the distance. The Ferris Wheel looked much closer now.
"Jesus," Jesse exclaimed. Enid observed the area, trying to find a way down there.
"How the hell are we crossin' this?" she asked.
"We could use that road," Ellie said, looking down at where they could possibly go.
"It's pretty fucking far," She continued.
Jesse looked down and caught sight of a group WLF's driving a boat on the water.
"What about that?" he said.
Ellie and Enid glance down and saw what Jesse was talking about.
"Yeah," Ellie agreed. "That's better," Enid replied with a nod.
"C'mon. This way," Jesse told them, walking away from the hole in the wall.
Ellie and Enid follow him and jump down to that floor from the roof and land in a hallway that led to the next room.
"Let's try through here," Ellie told her two friends as they jog down that hallway.
"So what's the plan? We take these guys out and steal their boat?" Jesse asked, looking over his shoulder.
"We're definitely taking their boat," Ellie replied. "Yeah, plus it's their decision if they want to get in our way," Enid agreed.
"Hopefully, it's a small crew," Jesse theorized. They made their way through what appeared to to be an office or maybe a bank.
Ellie had found a doorway that was blocked off by fallen debris. They would be able to get underneath it.
Ellie grabbed the debris by the bottom. "Enid , help me with this," she asked. Enid walked over and helped Ellie lift up the debris.
Jesse moved some boards out of the way so they could get through.
Jesse got under the debris and took a good hold of the pile for the two girls to crawl under.
"Got it. C'mon," he said through a strained voice.
Ellie and Enid hurriedly get inside just before Jesse dropped the debris behind them.
They swam under some debris building that was flooded. After they resurfaced , the hear more Soldiers over in the next room.
"Dammit," one shouted, exasperated.
"Need a hand?" another asked. "Nah, I got it. Engine's acting finicky," the first one responded, obviously referring to a boat they had.
"Sniper spotted at 12," a third announced, "I repeat, sniper spotted at the marina. Likely a trespasser,"
The trio swim passed a gated wall and they saw the soldiers on the other side. They continued to discuss what to do about this trespasser they mentioned.
The trio found a rope they could use to climb up. And they did, one by one.
The boat was in their sight, just below them. "There it is, just down there," Enid whispered, crouching down behind a small wall.
"Yeah. There's our boat," Ellie nodded. "Ellie, Enid?" Jesse whispered, them waving over to another hole in the wall.
"We can get to the marina through here," Jesse said. "No, we're taking the boat," Ellie replied, pointing over at where the boat was.
"You heard them. They're talking about Tommy," Jesse argued.
"But we don't know that. It could be anyone," Enid sighed desperately.
"Who else could it be?" Jesse said.
"If it is, then he'll be gone by the time we get there," Ellie said as a matter-of-factly.
"Yeah, Abby is where he'll be headed, so if we just foll- " Enid started but Jesse cut her off.
"What if he's in trouble?" he asked, cutting her off.
"He can take care of himself," Ellie replied, sounding a bit flabbergasted.
Jesse turned away, exasperated that she would say that. "Look, the best way to help him is find Abby," Enid said, raising her voice.
Jesse glared at her, but was stunned.
"You do this, we're not saving your ass again," Ellie said, looking at him in the eyes.
Jesse held his breath for a minute.
They had made their decision; There wasn't anything that'd change their minds about going after Abby.
"I really hope you two make it," he tells them before jumping down out of sight of them.
