Many doubted that there wound ever be another waterbender in the South pole, many thought that at ability had been completely wiped out by the Fire nation, that was until Katara was born.

Katara was the daughter of Hakoda the chief of the village, at first no one thought that there was anything truly special about her, that was until she was 3 years old when her mother Kya found her moving the water by just moving her hands.
