Chapter Six/ You're Not Invited!
As a member of the most elite, beloved club to ever walk the halls of Ouran Academy, Sora had to keep her reputation in line. She had to stay both tough and easy-going and fun to talk to so that she could live up to her title as "the bold type"
She has to look good, smell good, and be the best version of Sora the school had ever seen. Her reputation depends on it!
…But as a member of the Kawashima family, Sora didn't have much of a "reputation" to uphold in the first place.
After all, her father was famous from the age of eighteen for being a rich playboy-turned-CEO, and her step-mother was always disliked by the media for her bitchy attitude. As for her siblings, Keito was too quiet and too serious (in other words: boring), Minato a well-known goof, Shouta a trouble-maker almost reaching the status of a delinquent, and Kai was too introverted and mean, even at a young age.
To put it simply, Sora was always just...there. The pretty one, her dad's favorite, his little girl; the good one who both Akio Kawashima and his wife Nagi knew they could trust to follow their rules and follow the career path they set for her. It was surprising to see the same girl who could fight a ferocious battle with the most popular boys in school act so demure when in her own home.
"You should really shave your nose hairs" Hikaru purrs, "It's really starting to creep me out"
...
...
'You know, sometimes a little time to have internal monologue would be nice.' Sora thinks to herself just as a red vein of anger popped on the back of her head. Sora whips her head around, "It's sooooo crazy, Hikaru, so~so crazy how you're that obsessed with me you hear my voice in your head asking for your opinion."
"Enough of that" Kyoya held a hand up, not in the mood for any shenanigans this particular day. He handed Sora, who was sitting on top of one of the tables near the dressing room, her costume for the day. Sora's face scrunches up. The costume was just a long, silky pale green dress cut to expose her legs and a part of her cleavage, with a matching flower crown to go with it.
Sora tilts her head to the side, "Uhhh, Kyoya?"
"Greek mythology." He sighs
Sora opens her mouth to ask another question, but Kyoya cuts her off "Tamaki's idea."
The sound of the dressing room curtains being slid open sings out behind Sora. Haruhi steps out in a loose white tunic and a gold headband with tiny wings attached to it, "You don't like it, Sora-senpai?" Haruhi steps aside, allowing Sora to enter the dressing room she was just using. The girls switch places, with Haruhi now standing near the twins to avoid catching Tamaki's attention.
"I'm not a huge fan of this costume, but then again, I just don't know anything about mythology." She shrugs casually, "Not really my thing."
"Neither does Tamaki...trust me." Kyoya sighs. This whole mythology theme must not appeal to the vice-president either, seeing how chatty he was being about his annoyance. Tamaki was decorating the room with rose petals and gold utensils that were to be used for today, so the rest of the club was grouped together in the changing rooms area.
Haruhi picked with her tunic, "I hate to side with Tamaki-senpai but I have to say, out of all these silly costumes I think this one's my favorite."
Kyoya who was just in a fitted black shirt and a one-strap black gown sighs, "It's not the costumes I'm annoyed about it's Tamaki's lack of knowledge... I feel like someone is going to find this casting to be problematic"
Sora swings open the dressing room curtain, now donning her costume (which was a lot more risqué than she usually had to wear for the club) "This already feels problematic"
Like a gust of wind, Tamaki races into the room to shove a finger in Sora's face, startling the girl into falling backward, "It is NOT problematic!"
Tamaki's costume consisted of a loose white tunic with a red skirt wrapped around his hips and a golden sash around his shoulder. He also had a green vine crown around his head.
The blonde twirls around, violet eyes sparkling "It's simple~ I'm Zeus, the king of all the gods! Mori-senpai, as tough as they come, is Ares~ the god of war! Honey-senpai being Eros, the little god of love should be obvious!" Honey-senpai giggles at that, giving Tamaki a thumbs-up. Tamaki shoots him a supportive wink, "Sora, you are Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and passion~ The twins are Artemis and Apollo who are… twins… AND HARUHI- who looks toooooo~ cute- is Hermes, son of Zeus! The divine messenger and god of the poor people*!"
...
...
...
"So, like, three things…" Sora says, eye twitching.
Tamaki gives her a goofy grin, "Hmm?"
Sora looks down at her phone, having done a quick google search of mythology. "One- you say 'Hermes, son of Zeus' as if my character, Mori's character, and the twins' characters aren't also children of…" She looks down at her phone again, "….Zeus."
"Well, I-"
A shiny, scary glare on Kyoya's glasses appear, "Two- Eros is the son of Aphrodite and Ares, Sora and Mori-senpai respectively, who are also siblings. Aphrodite also has a child with Hermes as well." Sora shoots Haruhi a playful wink. Haruhi awkwardly forces out a chuckle.
Tamaki skin grows pale, "N-n-no that's-"
"Three~" The twins say in unison, "Who is Kyoya-senpai supposed to be?"
"H-Hades, god of the underworld." Tamaki looks at his best friend, who was growing more impatient by the second. Ignoring his common sense, Tamaki finishes his sentence:
"Because Kyoya reminds me of Hades from the Disney movie Hercules!"
[Later]
"So... why is Kyoya-senpai Zeus and Tamaki-senpai Poseidon? Shouldn't Tamaki-senpai be Zeus?" One of the guests asks, Haruhi sighs deeply.
"It's better not to ask."
Besides… it's pretty clear the one really running the show is Kyoya-senpai... so this makes more sense
Haruhi's three usual guests look at each other in confusion, but quickly shrug it off. Just an hour before, everyone was forced to finish decorating in place of Tamaki, who was being forced into a different costume. Though the sight of Kyoya forcing Tamaki into a different outfit against his will was probably hysterical, the annoyed Kyoya forced the rest of the club to finish the pre-club activities chores…. And Kyoya is not the one to disobey.
Haruhi pours tea into her guest's, Momoka Kurakano, teacup. Haruhi catches a glimpse of Tamaki, who was now wearing a fake gold crown and an ocean blue tunic, wooing his guests in his usual manner.
"…My princess, I wish for you to travel far with me... Your beautiful eyes shine brighter than the sun, your soul as deep as the blue sea... Together, my dear, we shall one day rule the sea… together."
Behind Tamaki, one of Sora's guests fake gags at Tamaki's flirting while the other one laughs and takes pictures of Sora, who was feeling shy about her costume. Haruhi scratches her head, "You know, despite all the hubbub earlier, everyone seems to be pretty into today's theme." she notes
Suddenly, a pair of arms wraps around Haruhi's shoulders, "I DON'T! I HATE THIS!" Sora cries, fake tears streaming down her face. Her two guests, Karen Abe and Nao Kishinuma, skip up to Haruhi's table to keep poking fun at Sora. Nao's thick eyebrows were raised and her smirk almost cat-like, "Stop being so shy~ We're just jealous about those long legs~"
Karen twirled her auburn hair around, "And those big-"
"STOOOOOOOOOOOP!"
Haruhi's guests laugh. Very rarely did Sora ever do her sessions with another host, but today was the day everyone was in the mood to bully Tamaki and Sora. Nao pulls up a chair and starts chatting with one of Haruhi's guest and Karen plops down next to Momoka, the two of them (plus Haruhi and the twins) being in the same class meant it was easy to make small talk.
Sora sat on Haruhi's lap, still dramatically crying. Usually, the closeness between such a barely-dressed girl and a younger 'boy' would raise eyebrows, but at this point, everyone was used to Sora's dynamic with each of the hosts-
"You know I really wish you would stop flirting with all the hosts every day."
….
….
…I jinxed it.
The Haruhi-Sora hosting group all stopped talking, all turning around to look at the culprit. A girl with very round glasses and black hair put into one long braid stood there, arms crossed. Haruhi's guests all fall silent while Sora's guests roll their eyes. Sora felt her eye twitch, "I…" she glared at the girl who glared right back. Sora took a breath, easy now... you promised you wouldn't cause this club an trouble.
Luckily the girl wasn't too loud when she made her comment, so no one else was paying any attentions. Sora gulps, which feels like she's swallowing a weight, and scoots off of Haruhi's legs "I'm...sorry" her teeth were grinding as she mumbled that as if it pained her to say "I don't wish to make you feel uncomfortable."
"HUH!?"
That catches the twins' attention at least. Karen jumps up, "What do you mean you're sorry! You're much too cool and much to tough to take shit like this!" She motions to the girl with braids "Look at her uniform! This is clearly a middle school chick! Tell her those glasses make her look like the kid from Doraemon* and be on your way!" The girl scoffs, placing a hand on her chest in an offended manner.
Sora shakes her hands in surrender, "It's cool Karen. Not worth my time. Besides, if I'm making a guest upset-"
"Then she can leave~" The twins say, leaning on the couch Haruhi and Sora are sat. Haruhi nods in agreement, giving the middle school girl a disapproving look. Sora shoots the twins an appreciative glance, confidence flooding back into her chest. Sora stands up, "Look kid, don't know where you get off thinking you can talk to anybody like that," Sora lightly jabs the girl in the forehead, causing the girl to flinch slightly "But I'm not the one. Don't come back here to just to try and start fights, that's so lame."
The girl scoffs once again, but her earlier confidence seemed to have wavered slightly. She stares at Sora silently for a moment before finally breaking eye contact, intimidated by the glares of the high schoolers near her. "You're nothing like Kai told me. What a liar..." She murmurs quietly. Sora's eyes grow big for a spilt second
The twins tilt their heads, "Kai?"
Sora sighed, "Oh so she sent you here? Or she just made you think I would take disrespect from a middle schooler"
"Kai...?" Haruhi asks, "Your fourteen-year-old sister?"
Sora nods and stands up, pulling up her dress so that her cleavage wouldn't be out (since now is not the time for any awkward incidents). She looks the girl sent by her sister up and down. Kai would never embarrass herself by antagonizing Sora publicly like that, so she tricked someone else into doing it. Clever.
The young girl steps back, preparing to leave. She shrugs nonchalantly, "Everyone at school talks about this club like it's the place to be.. Your sister just told me you act up in here and I guess when I saw you act like that to him" She motioned over to Haruhi, "I felt kind of jel... annoyed. Sorry."
Sora nods, accepting the apology and letting the middle schooler leave in peace. At this point, almost everyone in the room had noticed something was going on, so it was awkwardly quiet once Sora went back to her seat.
Nao scratches her cheek, "…Talk about a buzzkill"
"Seriously..." One of Haruhi's guest responds. Sora giggles, "Sorry about that guys... I had a feeling this was going to happen sooner or later. Kai's been acting like a brat recently because of the upcoming party"
Hikaru pokes the back of Sora's head, "I was wondering why you weren't defending yourself against some kid…"
Kaoru scratches Sora's ears, causing her to flinch "…And we're also wondering what this 'party' is~" He finishes. Sora's eyes go wide.
"Oh yeah!" She turns back to her guests with a smile on her face, "Would any of you like to attend my older brother's party on Sunday?"
Karen and Nao nod ferociously, almost rattling their brains out of their heads. One of Haruhi's guest tilts her head, "A party?"
"To celebrate Minato's upcoming graduation and debut… My family is kind of, uh, famous for their parties. Or at least, my dad is." Sora says with a weary tone. After a few moments of hesitation, one of Haruhi's guest accepts the invite while the other two politely decline. Hikaru and Kaoru wrap their arms around each other in glee, "Sounds fun! When should the club arrive?"
Sora gags and points a finger at her mouth, "Yuck, you two in my house? Fat chance!"
"…Seriously though, you guys aren't invited"
[The next morning]
"I'm NOT inviting any of you! So forget it!" Sora places her hands on her hips, "And you guys waiting here for me is super creepy!"
The twins, Honey, and Tamaki crowded around Sora, who had just gotten out of her family's car. Her driver, Denji, got out to open the door for her. Two bodyguards remained in the large car, helping Sora's other Ouran-attending sibling gather her belongings for the day.
Honey teared up, tugging lightly on Sora's uniform, "Why don't you want us there, Sora-Chan? A-Are you embarrassed by us?"
"No senpai! That's not it!" Sora waves her hands around defensively, "I just can't have you guys there because… Well… Kyoya, back me up here!"
Kyoya, who had lingered behind to explain to the newly-arrived Haruhi what everyone was so worked up about, steps forward. He thought back to their 'date' from awhile ago, and thought of both Sora's promise to not let her family's issues affect the club and her dislike of mixing business with pleasure. He pushes up his glasses, "Sora's right…" He says, "This really isn't the type of event we should attend as a club."
Though that was enough for Honey and Tamaki to back off, Kyoya's blatant disapproval only increased the twins' curiosity 10-fold.
"And why is that?" They ask in unison, crossing their arms grumpily
"Yeah-" A girl's voice calls out behind them. The host club members all turn around to face the girl, who had a blank expression planted on her face, "…Why is that?"
The girl is wearing Ouran's middle school uniform; the brown skirt cut a little short and the brown blazer cropped stylishly, but still the same uniform as any other last year middle school student. She has short, chestnut brown (almost red) hair and big brown eyes. Her cute, youthful appearance and stern, emotionless stare didn't match up at all.
She casually puts her bag on her shoulder, "As Sora's sister, it would be an honor to see her friends at one of our parties." She said, no expression other than slight amusement found in her tone.
"Kai…" Sora grumbles, glaring at her younger sister. The sky around the two sisters turned into lightning and thunder, and sounds of growling erupted from the two. Sensing the hostility, the girls' driver of ten years, Denji, steps between the two. "Now girls, this is a party for Minato, isn't it? Shouldn't it be up to him who can and can't come?"
Kai glances at Denji and gives a slight shrug. "I suppose so."
Denji offers the fourteen year old a gentle smile, "Why don't you and Sora just ask him if he will let Sora's friends come?"
Sora shakes her head. It wasn't worth contacting Minato; seeing how Sora did not want her friends to come in the first place, and Kai was just trying to spite Sora by inviting them. Kai may be a little monster, but she wouldn't waste her breath by calling Minato just to invite people for the sole purpose of bothering Sora.
Unfortunately, Kai's smirk and glare prove her her wrong, though, as the girl already had her phone up to her ear, dialing Minato as they speak. "Hello, Onii-chan.. Sora just wanted to know if she can invite her club members." Kai never breaks eye contact as she puts the phone on speaker, glaring at Sora every step of the way.
"I mean, sure. tell her to go ahead... Well actually wait, I don't want that Ootori scoundrel there."
A flashback to Sora and Kyoya's awkward marriage meeting plays behind the club... With how the over-protective Minato threatened the harmless Kyoya… that's probably for the best...
"-I don't want the honors student there. Don't wanna risk being held responsible if that Fujioka kid gets in trouble."
That's fair. And Haruhi wouldn't have gone anyway, so no loss there.
"-And I don't want Suoh there… Cause…Well…" Minato paused "He sounds kind of obnoxious"
Tamaki falls backward in shock. The word "obnoxious", for some odd reason, triggers a full-body reaction in Tamaki and causes him to curl into a ball faster than he usually does.
The twins ignore Tamaki and smile, "So we can come, right?"
Kai nods just as Sora scoffs. Strangely, Sora merely just crosses her arms and stares down at the ground angrily, ignoring the prideful look on Hikaru's face (which was quickly replaced by a look of annoyance once Sora's anger was noticed)
The clocktower bell rings out, signaling that homeroom was about to begin. Sora, unusually quiet and agitated, quickly walked away. Kyoya and Tamaki (who was still recovering from the insult) soon went after her to class 2-A. Soon enough, the whole corridor was empty and all the students were making their way to class. Haruhi and the twins walked together, the twins' usual chatty behavior was absent, and the three just walked in silence.
A little bit concerned, Haruhi looks up at Kaoru "Okay—I'll bite. What's up with you two? Why are you so quiet?"
Kaoru crosses his arms, "Well... Why was Sora so annoyed by her brother saying some of us can come?"
Hikaru scoffs "She invited her two guests and some of yours so clearly it's not a big deal if some of us are there or not."
Haruhi shrugs her shoulders, not completely understanding either. Then again... Haruhi didn't necessarily care either. The trio walks into classroom 1-A like usual. The sight of one of Sora's guest, Karen Abe, quickly caught the twins' eyes. Without a second to waste, they sit down next to her instead of their usual seats, identical smiles planted on each of their faces, "Karen~ Can we ask you something?" They ask, leaning in
Karen Abe, notorious for being mean despite looking so cute, looked them up-and-down. She turns around, auburn pig-tails swinging so quickly they almost hit the twins' eyes. "If it's something about guessing which one of you is which I'm going to hurl." She says, shooting Kaoru a quick glance.
Kaoru smiles apologetically, "It's not that... We just wanna know why Sora's house party is such a big deal."
Karen slowly turns around with her head tilted, "A big deal? It's not a big deal.."
Hikaru's face scrunches up, "It must be seeing how mad she got that her sister invited us to it and her brother approved."
"Oh my gosh~ Shouta invited you?!" Karen's eye sparkles, hearts forming around her in lovestruck excitement "Lucky! Shouta is so cuteeee! It's a shame he hated Ouran so much he dipped out by the first week, ugh!" She rambles on-and-on, images of the rebellious Shouta popping up behind her. The twins sigh, annoyed by Karen's distracted rant.
Hikaru snaps his fingers close to her face, snapping her out of her trance. "Wrong brother. C'mon, stay with us here."
Karen shakes her head, "Er... Sorry about that.. Anyways, it could just be that Sora doesn't want you guys to get in trouble? I mean, those parties have been legendary ever since Sora's dad was young. All the rich and elite heirs in one place, letting loose, doing crazy and scandalous things... They're famously pretty wild." Karen whispers, not wanting any of the more uptight students overhearing this.
Haruhi, who had sat in the seat behind Kaoru to listen in, leaned forward "Well if that's the case... why would she invite you?"
Karen shrugs, "Well, it's true I'm from an affluent family as well, but I'm not apart of the elite host club." Karen explains, "If I get caught there? My parents pay to get me out of trouble and that's done with. If any of you get caught being there your parents pay to get you out of there and it's kindaaaa done with, but kinda-not-really since the whole school would know. It's just too risky."
The teacher clears his throat, trying to settle the class down. Everyone goes to their standard seats, including Haruhi and the twins. Maybe Karen was right, Sora just didn't want to put the club's reputation at risk...
...
...
But who doesn't love a good risky decision now-and-then, huh?
The twins shoot each other the same mischievous smile… "You know what this means?" They mumble to each other (which irritates both the teacher talking and Haruhi who's listening) "We're going undercover!"
[Sunday night]
[7:56 PM]
"This is stupid!"
"...This is...dangerous"
"This is awesome!"
The sight of the Kawashima estate was almost... too much?
Sora's home wasn't the tallest out of the club (That prize goes to Tamaki), it didn't have the most excess space (Kyoya's did; with the Ootori's also owning the land surrounding his mansion), or the most rooms (A tie between Honey and Mori, who live in more traditionally Japanese themed mansions), or even the most decor (obviously that was won by the Hitachiin's)
However, what this home has is character.
The mansion was long, with the outside walls being white and some a dark brown mahogany. There were many lights and trees which was usual, but what struck out the most was the large front yard and stage set up on it and the extremely large pool in the backyard, which no one else had. The party was in full-blast, so the lights indoors were dimmed and LED lights set green, the sounds of music and laughter practically exploded from the place.
It really was…. too much. At least, way more extravagant than they imagined.
Tamaki, Haruhi, and the twins crouched behind a large bush in the front yard, hiding from the other newly-arrived guest. They all wore..."costumes" that did a poor job of hiding their identities.
To hide his identity, Tamaki sported the same brown wig he wore on the day of the physical exams and 'casual' clothes, the twins combed down their hair a bit and put in temporary brown hair dye, and Haruhi (after a lot of reluctance) wore a short blonde wig with bangs and fake prescription glasses. Haruhi also had on a red camisole and a black skirt (an outfit she would have never picked out herself in a million years)
Haruhi sighs and pushes up her 'glasses' "What do you guys mean this is 'awesome'? It smells like a bar and- why are we even here!?" Haruhi stomps a foot down while whisper-screaming.
The twins shrug, "Why did you agree to come?"
"I didn't!"
[Earlier today...]
[3:38 PM]
Haruhi walked out of the entrance of the convenience store. The first year had just finished her assignment due for class the next day and since there were no tests to be worried about, she decided to go shopping for some basic necessities the Fujiokas were running low on. Haruhi took a deep breath, enjoying the nice chill in the air and the sun in the sky. The weekends were great! To finally have one day without any shenanigans from her club members was a breath of fresh-
Suddenly, Haruhi is put into a hold by two people
"Target"
"Captured"
The twins—obviously, because who else would just come up and put a girl carrying tampons and toilet paper in a full-nelson hold?
A car swiftly rolls up and (once again—obviously) Tamaki rolls down the window. He smirks, "Good work. Now take her with you." The twins gave their boss a salute as the car drives away. They float off, still holding Haruhi
"Wait…" Haruhi shakily said, "Where are we goiiiiiiiing? NOT AGAINNNNNN"
"Oh yeah!" Hikaru exclaims, which snaps Haruhi out of her flashback, "I guess you didn't want to come, huh?"
Haruhi fights the urge to punch the older twin in the nose. Sensing Haruhi's anger, Tamaki nervously touches his two pointer fingers together in a shy manner "I-I just thought this was a good chance for you to get out and have fun with your girl friend!"
"This-" Haruhi motions to a random woman throwing up into a barbeque grill, "-isn't my idea of fun!"
The twins pout, "Boo~ You're boring~"
"Can I help you four?"
The four hosts turn around to see a burly, yet handsome older man towering over them. His head was shaved bald and he wore sunglasses to cover up his eyes. The twins grab Haruhi and the three of them hide behind the shaking Tamaki.
"W-W-We are here for... the p-party," Tamaki says. The man raises an eyebrow and Tamaki clears his throat, "We're...friends of Sora Kawashima"
The man rubbed his dark brown goatee, "Friends of... Wait-Sora invited you four clowns?!"
Ignoring the clown comment, the four nodded. The burly man's eyes watered behind his dark glasses and the air around his flickered happily with sparkles, "Sora's never had friends over before! Goodness me, I thought after what happened back in Korea she would become a hermit or something!"
"What happened in-"
As if it were nothing, he scoops the four into his arms into one massive, bone-crushing group hug "I'm Sora's bodyguard, Junichiro! I'm so glad she has such... interesting looking...friends to show off today!"
"N-nice to meet you, sir..." Haruhi wheezes out. Junichiro releases the four, who stumble around to regain feeling in their limbs. Junichiro walks the path leading to the front door and beckons the hosts to follow him. Hesitantly, they walk after him.
Tamaki holds a hand up to his mouth, "Remember to stay in character and to make sure no one from school sees you! No drinking! And don't talk to boys!" He whispers. Haruhi's eye twitches but she simply just nods along with the twins. Junichiro unlocks the door and holds it open for the four hosts.
The entrance to Sora's home was massive but...it's kinda hard to tell because of how many people there were in the entire house. Like sardines stuffed in a can, people were all grouped together, happily dancing, drinking, singing, and touching as if the place wasn't more tightly cramped than a shut box. Junichiro exchanges word with the other two bodyguards at the front door, who then happily steps aside to let the hosts inside.
"Enjoy! Sora's bedroom is on the third floor if you need her!"
...
...
Funnily enough, no one in the host club has ever been to anything like this before... None of them move a muscle. Junichiro tilts his head to the side in confusion, but then snaps his fingers, "Ah! You don't know how to get to the upper floors? Sora did mention once that she has a friend who was practically homeless." Haruhi sighs in annoyance.
Once again without any struggle at all, Junichiro scoops the four of them up into his arms. Pushing past the sea of drunk young college students on the first floor, he walks up the first set of stairs and sets the four down on the second floor, which was noticeably less crowded.
Dizzy due to the combination of noise and Junichiro smashing his spine, Tamaki gives Junichiro a weak thumbs-up before collapsing onto the floor. Junichiro gives him a thumbs-up back before going back down the stairs. The twins look at each other blankly "So... what do we do now?" They ask in unison, shrugging their shoulders.
Haruhi shrugs and sits down on one of the sofas on the upper floor. Her feet were already starting to swell because of the heels the twins forced her into. Kaoru peers over the hallways rails, looking down on the party-goers on the first floor.
"You know..." He says, "We were worried but there doesn't seem to be that many...teenagers here at all. Honestly, I think we're the youngest here."
Kaoru was right- the entire first floor was made up of university students or graduates, not a single high school student in sight. Not even the Kawashima children who were hosting the party could be seen.
Haruhi nods, "Well, duh, this is a party for her brother that's graduating college! It makes sense mostly adults would come. Thankfully, I think we're the only ones from Ouran who came."
"Think again, Haruhi."
The four whip their heads around to see Sora's guest, the small and mean Karen, smirking. The auburn-haired girl finally had her hair down loose and was wearing a white sweater and a short, red plaid skirt. She held a peace sign, "But don't worry, it's just me and Nao" Karen says, sending a wave of relief to the four hosts.
Hikaru scratches his cheek, "No one else came?" He asks. Karen shrugs her shoulders.
"Sora only invited a few people. That whole downstairs mess is just Sora's older brother, Minato's, university friends... and the movie theater room is filled with Shouta's friends who are all drunk off their ass or smoking marijuana."
Haruhi blinks, "Marijuana? But... this is Japan. That's illegal.."
Nao Kishinuma, Sora's other guest, walks up to the group with one thick eyebrow raised. She has her light brown hair tied up into a high ponytail and wore a dark green t-shirt and dark red jean skirt. Nao quietly giggles, "Well...obviously it's illegal. But the law is something that you get to break when you're rich!"
Haruhi looks back over her shoulder, deadpanning. Karen giggles at her classmates clearly annoyed expression.
'Nao-senpai is... honest.' the first-year host thinks to herself.
Suddenly, Shouta Kawashima opens the door to the home theater, the smell of a mysterious substance and alcohol emerging behind him. Karen blushes at the sight of Sora's cute, but messy, twin brother. Shouta waves, "Yo! Have any of you seen my sister?" he shouts over the blaring music
Karen cups a hand over her mouth, "Which one? Sora's in her room and Kai and the other middle schoolers were in the pool but I think they all left to a different house!"
"Awwwww man... I wanted Sora to have fun, she's in such a shit mood..." Shouta drunkenly smiles, "Wait, wait-Karen~ do you wanna get ice cream with me?! We'll have the driver take us somewhere cool~"
Karen almost foams from the mouth from excitement, but quickly looks back at her best friend for permission. Nao waves her hand, "Go-go! I'll be fine! Just don't complain when he throws up on you in their car!"
As soon as Karen skips up to Shouta, Nao turns to the rest of the host club. Nao smiles, "Sooo, I heard Sora's older brother Minato is in this really cool band! More importantly, in the big room over there they have a bunch of old costumes used by the J-Rock and K-pop groups Sora's dad manages!"
The twins' eyes sparkle, "Like-"
Nao dreamily blushes and dances around, "QTA, Big Boom, Orange Black*! AHHHH I wanna try them on!"
The twins run in unison, swinging open the door that led to the giant closet, "Then what are we waiting for!" They say in unison, causing the easily-excited Nao to practically teleport to the room with them. She quickly comes back, smiling at Tamaki and Haruhi, "Come on guys! I bet Mr. Kawashima would let you keep some of them for the club!"
Tamaki nods, "I like the way you think, Ms. Kishinuma!" Tamaki follows after Nao and looks back, "Haruhi? Are you coming?"
Haruhi, who was busy fidgeting and messing with her heels, looks up at Tamaki. "I'll... be right there, senpai."
Tamaki nods and smiles, going into the room with the twins and Nao. Their bickering and messy around could be heard from miles away if not for the blaring music. Haruhi sighs and takes her shoes off completely.
All the first-year student wants to do is go home and bathe. The loud music and smell of alcohol were working well with Haruhi's cramps to make the girl feel nauseous and irritable. This party was the last place Haruhi wanted to be.
And there is only one person Haruhi knows feels the exact same way.
...
"If you're one of Shouta's girlfriends you came to the wrong bedroom*."
SLAM
Haruhi practically popped a vein in annoyance. Sometimes Sora's kind, bold, down-to-earth, and confident personality did too well of a job hiding the fact Sora is kind of a dumbass at times. Haruhi knocked on the door again, this time with her blonde wig off. Sora swung open the door angrily, only to widen her eyes at the sight of Haruhi holding a wig. "Haru? When did you get here?"
Haruhi sighs, but ignores Sora's cluelessness "Not too long ago... Tamaki and the twins dragged me here."
"Ah." Sora says, stepping aside to let Haruhi into her bedroom.
The walls were painted dark green and fairy lights was strung up all over the walls. The bedroom was large and Sora's bed was king-sized with a white comforter. Haruhi sits down on Sora's floor while Sora plops back down onto her bed. The loud sound of the music was muffled and quiet once Sora's door was closed, which alleviates some of Haruhi's headache.
The girls quickly grow silent, but rather than awkward, the silence is somewhat comfortable. Rather than "comfortable" though, it's more so...tense, as if both girls have something to say.
Sora takes a deep breath and brings her knees up to her chest, "So look, sorry if it seems like I didn't want you guys here. It's not you all, it's me. I hate these parties! It's just another way my family shows off how much of a douchebag my dad has always been. What should be just Minato celebrating with a couple of friends always turns into a complete shit show where we just get dirt on others, it's awful!*" Sora begins, encouraging a much-needed vent/rambling session.
Haruhi, encouraged by Sora's good listening skills and PMS, joins in "I just wanted one day of peace and quiet!"
"-It's not like I didn't want you guys to come because I'm not proud of my friends, I don't even want to be here myself! I was just trying to keep you all away from my family!"
"...Honestly, how hard is it to listen to Kyoya-senpai and just not show up to a place like this? Mori-senpai and Honey-senpai both listened!"
"And oh my god! You know why my younger sister Kai had to embarrass me like that in front of you guys? She's such a little jerk and you guys didn't even listen to me at all!"
"I wanted to, Sora-senpai! They dragged me here because they don't listen to me!"
"-This isn't even something you guys like doing! Dancing and drinking with college students appeal to exactly zero of you so what was the big ass deal anyway?!"
"...And this costume I had to wear makes me uncomfortable!"
"I HATE that the twins don't get it when they've crossed the line!"
"Me too!"
This ranting continued on for an hour, so much anger exploded out of the two girls that their sentences almost became incoherent. Thankfully, the party started to die down while the girls were rambling due to most people having work or classes the next day or getting so sick that their drivers had to take them home.
The blaring sound of the song "Caramelldanson" calm Haruhi and Sora down, and eventually the two girls ran out of things to complain about. After discussing the twins, the party, Kyoya's nosiness, Tamaki's costumes, the weird dynamic of the club, and food, the girls were completely calm
Sora smiles, "Thanks for that, Haru... I needed some company tonight."
Haruhi smiles back, "You know what, senpai? I... had fun talking with you. Sorta."
Sora gets up from her bed and holds her hand out to Haruhi. Haruhi accepts it and stands up, which causes Sora to excitedly wrap an arm around the younger girl's shoulder, "Who knew complaining could kill so much time?" She exclaims with a giant grin on her face
Haruhi chuckles, "To be fair...there was a lot to complain about."
Sora unwraps herself from Haruhi and puts her hands on the back of her head, elbows up. Sora laughs, "Yeah but all this talking has gotten me hungry! Wanna go to the third-floor kitchen and get something?"
Ignoring the fact Sora has three kitchens and the snarky comment just dying to get out, Haruhi simply just nods her head. Before the girls could even exit the room, Sora's bedroom door swings open, which knocks Sora onto the floor. Nao, who didn't notice Sora's now-bruised head, bends over to talk to the second-year student, "Dude come to the front yard! Your brother Minato and his band are making Tamaki sing!"
With swirls in her eyes, Sora just nods "M-Minato and Tamaki? Cool..."
Impatiently, Nao grabs Sora and places her on her feet. "Come on!" She exclaims, running downstairs with Sora's limp body in her arms. Haruhi chases after them in confusion. Nao swings open the front door.
Sure enough, Tamaki was standing on the stage with three other guys. The around-twenty year old man holding a bass guitar with shoulder-length, light brown hair in a ponytail was Minato, Sora's brother. His drummer was a tough-looking man with piercings and dyed blonde hair and the electric guitar player was an angry-looking teenage boy with short black hair and blue eyes. Tamaki leans into the microphone, "H-Haruhi? I thought you left!"
"...Why are you up there, senpai?"
Minato, who was standing near the angry Junichiro, grins, "Because he crashed my party! This guy wasn't invited!"
The twins, an amused Shouta, and Karen, were all sitting on a blanket laid down on the lawn, laughing at Tamaki's pained expression. "Sing pretty for us, boss!" Hikaru teases, pulling out his phone. Nao joins them, plopping down next to Karen.
Sora cups her hand over her mouth, "This is what you get, Tamaki!" She exclaims, she then grins and gives Tamaki a thumbs-up, "Do your best fellas!"
The three musicians start playing, immediately, lyrics to their song "Shissou" pop up on the screen and the slow electric guitar rift turns into a fast pace song. Nao and Karen cheer.
Tamaki clears his throat just as the singing part starts, "I run and run a thousand miles! And I am barely breathing!"
Sora and Haruhi sit behind the twins, who were recording Tamaki's singing. Kaoru snorts, "Wait... He's actually not half-bad."
Hikaru smirks, "I was kinda hoping he'd suck, to be honest."
Tamaki takes the microphone from the stand and holds it closer to his mouth, "...Through all the pain! Believe in who we are right here and now! Raise one hand to the sky, raise them both, lift them high!"
Sora blows air into Hikaru's ear, sending a shiver down his spine. Hikaru blushes and instantly leans away from Sora, "W-why did you do that-"
Sora shrugs, "I wanted to get your attention... I have to tell you something" She leans closer, which grabs the attention of Kaoru, Karen, and her younger sister Kai, who had just returned to her home, accompanied by her friends. Her two friends whisper to her, gossiping about the sight, but Kai glares remained focused at Sora, who doesn't take notice.
Sora smiles, "Whatever look you were going for...? You missed~" She teases. She leans back and runs her fingers through both the twins' hair, causing it to go back to their usual styles.
She fake gags, "Seriously, that combed down hairstyle is not cute on you guys! Remember those awful haircuts you had in middle school?"
Hikaru simply just scoffs and turns away from Sora with an annoyed expression on his face. Karen, Nao, and Kaoru exchange glances, but none speak up, simply just smiling and enjoying the many sights in front of them. Sora, content with the fact she "won" today's argument, leans her head onto Haruhi's shoulder "Who knew Tamaki could sing so well?"
"It... kinda suits him?" Haruhi says, smiling. She peers down at Sora, "I mean, he can play piano and loves attention, so being on stage like that sounds right up his ally."
Sora laughs, "I guess you're right! I wonder if he's going to put on another show next week while we're at the beach!"
Tamaki makes eye contact with Haruhi and grins, enjoying the fact his "daughter" is watching him. He twirls around, microphone in hand "...The time to start is now, and I can show you how!" He loudly sings, energy on full blast.
Haruhi rolls her eyes, Tamaki's silly moves having fully taken away the brief moment Haruhi caught herself thinking he looked cool.
"Let's hope that the beach trip is going to be the one day without any theatrics..." Haruhi mumbles. Sora lifts her head from Haruhi's shoulder and nods, giggling at Haruhi's exhausted tone. Tamaki puts the microphone back onto the stand as the song approaches its finish.
"...Start with me and the world will be even bigger than ever before!"
-Chapter End-
* NOTES *
*Hermes is not actually the "god of the poor people" as Tamaki said, but Tamaki is kinda clueless and no one was going to fact-check him.
*Karen is referencing the main protagonist of the anime Doraemon, a kid named Nobita who has a short black bowl cut and big round glasses.
*I'm guessing you can tell which K-pop groups those are supposed to be.
*Shouta is kind of a ladies man (a trait he shares with his dad, much to his chagrin) also sora was gullible enough to fall for Haruhi's disguise
*Nagi usually would never allow events like these, but you'd be surprised how many families are willing to stop gossiping about yours once you have blackmail material on them or their children.
EEEEP I'm sorry I know I'm a dork and that Vic Mignogna is no longer really acceptable but his cover of Ourans ending song always gets me so hyped because to me, it's just Tamaki's voice singing and I love Tamaki sm.
I'm glad Sora and Haruhi have grown closer :) And I hope everyone is NOT living like the hosts going out to parties and are staying at home and staying healthy
Fun fact of the day about Sora:
-Her favorite dish is katsu curry and she hates Dorayaki
-Sora is a complete and total astrology hoe
-Comments-
Mr. Meowington- Jamaica rocks! Maybe one day I'll write a chapter where they vacation together to Jamaica? Anyways, I'm grateful for your review and your kindness! :)
ChasityR- Thank you so much! You're so kind!
Keekaa- I'm trying to get better at that. I'm still not great but I try to make sure Sora properly interacts with everyone, which is why I write the bonus chapters. This chapter was basically just to remind you all that Haruhi and Sora are actually friends, and feel comfortable with each other. Thank you for the review!
Please follow, favorite, and leave a review! It motivates me!
