When Luz woke up, she felt warm. The birds were chirping outside of her broken window. Wind rushing by and disturbing the peace of the leaves on every tree around the house. The sun coming over the horizon to claim a new day.
Still half asleep, Luz cuddled closer to the source of warmth she felt beside her. The teen dragged the blanket over her shoulders to shield herself from the slightly cold wind even more. Through the window she could smell the breakfast Eda was preparing. It wasn't hard with the kitchen right below her.
She gave a satisfied sigh, ready to fall asleep again for just a few more minutes. Until Eda called her or King bursting through the door. Telling her to get ready for school. Oh, right. She remembered that. Raine had told them that it would be better to stay home. It was safer for her and Hunter.
Wait…Hunter
Slowly, she opened her eyes and was met with the well build chest of the teen. With a loud yelp, she reeled back, sitting on her knees. She almost screamed when she noticed that she wasn't wearing anything.
When she pulled the blanket up to cover herself, she noticed that Hunter wasn't wearing anything either!
"Morning" she heard Hunter grumble.
In her panic, Luz threw the blanket over his head in order to make sure he couldn't see anything. She had barely stopped herself from seeing too much from him!
"Don't look!" she yelled.
"Something wrong?" Hunter asked, not daring to remove the blanket.
Oh yeah, something was wrong alright. They were god damn NAKED! She tried to recreate the events of last night only to find herself unable to remember much aside from the trip to the night market.
Luz grabbed one of her shirts and shorts throwing them over. It would have to do for now.
"You can look now" she muttered.
Carefully, Hunter removed the blanket from his head, throwing it over the rest of his body instead.
The human ran through every memory she had. They were in a bar, waiting for Eda to get information. They talked and had something to drink. Something to drink…..
"Did you put something in my drink?!" she shrieked.
"What? NO! When would I even have done that? You never left the table" he shot back, grabbing his own clothes.
"But I don't-I don't remember much from yesterday. And we're naked. Naked Hunter! People only do that when they-" she stopped herself, almost choking on her words.
"Okay, okay calm down" he grabbed her shoulders. "Deep breaths."
Luz nodded, taking deep breaths to calm herself. Maybe nothing even happened. She just had too much to drink last night, that was all. There was no way they did anything. Hunter was handsome and all, but she Luz didn't know if this was what she wanted.
A crush? Yes, definitely. Love? Maybe.
"Besides, you threw yourself onto me" Hunter said casually.
"WHAT!?" she screamed.
A knock sounded on the door, causing her to scream again.
"You two okay in there? I heard a lot of screaming and yelling" Eda, that was Eda.
"Yeah" Luz laughed nervously. "Just some large spider crawled through the broken window."
"Ugh!" Eda groaned. "Gotta get that fixed. Breakfast is ready by the way. Get dressed"
"Be there in a minute" Luz answered. She heard Eda walk back down the stairs. Luz sighed in relief.
"A spider. Really?" Hunter said, not very impressed.
"Nothing better came to my mind" she mumbled. "Back to our problem."
"Problem? You sound like we killed someone" Hunter scoffed.
Luz huffed. No, not someone. But something. Definitely. She didn't know how much Hunter really knew about human anatomy, or if something could happen after last night…..
"Why do you even remember everything when I don't?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't know" he shrugged. "Maybe from the alcohol? You did have more than me and you were not yourself. And I don't remember everything."
Luz groaned. "This is still not good. I need to check in a few days. I'm sixteen already. I use woman products. I get my-" she stopped her ranting to look at the witch.
Hunter looked lost at her words. "You get your what?" he asked bluntly.
Luz felt her whole face become red. Could she explain this to him? Did witches work the same in that department? She could try at least.
"Well, female humans have a way of knowing when they are ready to…reproduce" she said.
"Reproduce? Like having children?" Hunter asked.
"Yeah, exactly" she nodded. "Something very special happens when we reach a certain age of our development. And when it stops happening, we are pregnant"
"I don't get it. How can it start happening and then stop again?" Hunter leaned his head to the side.
Luz groaned and ran a hand down her face. "I'll explain some other time. The important thing is that I have already started that part of my life" she smiled nervously.
"And have you stopped?" Hunter asked.
"I-I don't know. It doesn't happen constantly. There are a few days every month where it will happen. And since I don't have those days right now, I can't tell" she tried to explain.
Hunter was old enough to probably understand what she was saying. Of course she could go more into detail, but that wasn't necessary right now.
The witch nodded. "So you will know when you don't have those days. And what happens when you do?"
"You are way to eager to find out how this works" Luz said with a disturbed face.
"Sorry" the teen blushed. "But it is different from witches. We know instantly. And for us to reproduce the witch has to be fifteen. Fifteen is the age where every which is able to have children."
"Huh, that would be nice. Not having to wait until you know" Luz held a hand under her chin before shaking her head to get back to the main topic.
"Anyway, I have to wait until my time is. If it doesn't happen, well, Eda is probably going to kill us" she chuckled.
"But what happens when you are not pregnant?" the witch asked, leaning forward on the mattress.
Luz didn't know if she liked the curious glimmer in his eyes or if she should be freaking out right now. She had never seen anyone this eager to find out about the period. But then again, she was in a different realm after all.
"Okay, I'll tell you. But don't freak out" she warmed. The teen quickly nodded back at her.
"We bleed" she said plainly.
"What?"
"We bleed. Down here" she pointed to her private area.
"You bleed…..for days?" now he sounded disturbed.
"Not much, but yeah. For days" Luz shrugged.
"Doesn't that hurt?" he asked.
"For some it does. Me? Not that much. Not enough to make me want to lay in bed all day" she shrugged, pulling her hoodie over her head.
"Don't think about it too much. C'mon breakfast waits" Luz opened the door.
She skipped down the stairs, acting like nothing had happened. Like she didn't loose her virginity last night. Like she couldn't be pregnant. Still, she had to think of something for Eda. Because there was no doubt that Hunter would come down looking like he had seen a corpse.
Sitting down at the counter, breakfast was already in front of her. Eda had her usually cup of apple blood already in hand. King was munching on something Luz could only hope was a muffin.
"Okay, spill" Eda demanded.
"Huh?" Luz looked at her mentor. Playing dumb was best right now.
"I know that there was no spider in your room. What happened?" the older witch pressed.
"Oh,uh…" again, her face became red as she tried to think of an excuse. She couldn't tell her the truth. It was a drunken mistake. Nothing more. And as long as she wasn't pregnant, everything was fine. But how possible could that be? After the first time? Wait, how fertile were witches?
"Hunter…uh…Hunter found my….stuff?" she said, smiling awkwardly.
"Your…..stuff" Eda repeated.
"Yeah. My girl stuff" she laughed nervously hoping Eda would at least buy this one.
"Oh! That weird human stuff you need. Still surprised you brought enough with you" Eda said, sipping her apple blood.
"Well, the original plan was summer camp and not the demon realm. So of course I had some in my backpack" she shrugged, stabbing her food.
"I have no idea what these words mean" Kind said sounding a bit disturbed.
Luz laughed, rubbing the demons head. "You don't have to."
"And he screamed because he saw those?" the witch asked, some suspicion still lacing her tone.
"No, no" she waved her mentor off. "That was when I told him what they were for."
Eda snorted, gulping down more apple blood.
A few more minutes had passed before Hunter finally entered the kitchen for breakfast. Luz was more than relieved that he was fully dressed and didn't look like the hangover in person. Which, if she was being honest, she felt like.
Her stomach was upset, and she could only hope that it was from the alcohol.
The weird tension between them didn't go unnoticed. While Luz tried to hide her face in the eggs, Hunter was avoiding eye contact at all costs when he sat down beside her. Both of them probably would've liked something different right now.
But instead of silence, Eda began laughing.
"You are hilarious. You found her pads, no worries. I was surprised too when she told me. For a guy probably even worse. But there is so much more that you could've seen" she laughed.
"Pads?" Hunter repeated with confusion.
"Yeah" Luz stretched. "Y'know. The reason for the screaming earlier. You saw my pads and I told you about human anatomy" the look she gave him could kill. If he didn't get the hint she probably had to.
"Oh!" Hunter blushed, hiding his face in the cup that had been placed in front of him. Seems like he got it. Good.
"No worries, kid. We probably would have to explain this stuff at one point or another. Considering that Luz acts like she's dying during those days" Eda said.
"You said it wasn't that bad" Hunter screeched.
"It's not" Luz confirmed. "But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt at all."
"Not bad? Kid, last time you refused to leave the bed for four days" Eda said, hands on her hips.
"That is the direct opposite of what you told me earlier" Hunter said with some annoyance. The rest was worry.
"Okay, maybe it is. But I'm fine. No one's died of it before" she smiled.
Hunter grumbled something which she chose to ignore. Whatever it was could wait until she finished eating. And it probably wasn't that important. Only something about her playing things down when they were bad. Yeah, she tended to do that a lot.
"By the way how are you feeling?" Eda asked.
"Good why?"
"Eh, you were not yourself last night. Had too much to drink. Wanna be sure nothing happened" the laid-back attitude Eda had was shining through again. But it still made her nervous.
"NO! Nothing happened. Why would anything happen? It was fine totally fine. Don't even remember much" she laughed nervously, padding her hands on her knees.
King looked at her strangely. "If you don't remember much, how do you know nothing happened?" he asked.
"Because I just know. And if something did happen, Hunter would've told me" maybe she said that one with a little too much confidence.
Said witch looked up from his plate. "Totally" he nodded.
"Gonna trust you there blondie" Eda chuckled. "But if something did happen and you're not only lying to me but Luz too, then you better run back to that coven of yours" she warned.
Luz exchanged a look with Hunter. This was going great.
"I can assure you that I have not lied to Luz about anything that has to do with yesterday" Hunter said with a straight face.
True. He didn't lie to her. Eda and King on the other hand. Well, they didn't need to know anything yet. The problem would start if she actually did get pregnant. The thought almost made her laugh. After the first time? Yeah right.
After breakfast, they sat down on the couch. King was in her lap immediately. She smiled, stroking over his back carefully.
"What about that information you got yesterday?" Luz asked
"Ah, right! Well, it is just a rumor, but it comes directly from the castle" the older witch had thrown herself over one end of the couch.
Luz bit her lip. Directly from the castle. Most rumors from there were right. Rarely were they wrong.
"Some say that Belos is ready to retire after the day of unity. Which means someone else has to lead the isles. And since blondie here is the only relative, he has, he's supposed to take over. Stupid if you ask me" she snorted.
"I never told you I was related to Belos" Hunter said with some suspicion.
"I have my ways kid" Eda smirked.
Luz scrunched her face together. "That's all?"
"All they were ready to tell me. And I did threaten them" Eda shrugged.
"It doesn't help at all. How can that be all you got out of them. You once got someone to tell you their life story just so you would stop making jokes of their nose" Luz was panicking. Definitely panicking.
"Woah calm down kid. They seriously didn't know anything else. I'm sure of that. The rest of the secrets wouldn't have been helpful anyway" Eda tried to assure her student.
"That doesn't explain why they kidnapped Luz" Hunter said.
The human nodded. Indeed, it didn't. And how did they even know that Hunter was related to Belos? She didn't even know that until, like, yesterday.
"No, which is why we have to wait for Raine to come back with more info. Until then, you two will stay here. For real this time" Eda said.
Both of them groaned in annoyance.
"Hah! You're grounded!" King laughed with joy.
Hunter shot the demon a glare, obviously annoyed.
Luz sighed, leaning back against the couch. This was going to be a hard time. And the look Hunter gave her made one thing very clear. They were going to have a long talk.
