Thank you zZSweet-JasmineZz for the review!
I hope everyone enjoys the new chapter!
The next day caused Yuri to be in a bad mood, instead of helping Yusuke she was in the records area looking up information on the three demons under Koenma's orders. Coming up with nothing more than what she already knew, she growled and tossed Kurama's file across the floor smacking Koenma in the leg.
"I knew you were mad but you don't need to be throwing files."
Yuri jumped and looked over at the toddler.
"I didn't see you standing there Koenma, my apologies."
She bowed and her boss patted her between her fluffy ears.
"What's troubling you Yuri?"
He asked her gently.
"When I met with Kurama, it felt like I should know him. Like a distant memory."
Koenma smiled.
"I know what it is, but I don't believe that information is going to be helpful right now regarding this case. However, I came to tell you that Yusuke's fight is over and he is home now, he won and he has the orb, however, your healing abilities are needed."
Yuri growled at her boss for not telling her what had been bothering her, deciding against arguing with her boss she chose to make a portal and landed on the roof of the building next to her apartment building. A little surprised to see Kurama standing on the railing looking at the apartment no doubt listening to Yusuke and Botan argue.
"Didn't expect to see you here stalking the Detective."
Kurama turned at her sudden voice as she walked over and leaned against the railing.
"I was ensuring the Detective made it without any issues."
Yuri smirked, letting her emotions show.
"I can't figure you out. I know you. But how? And from where?"
Yuri finally asked her question directly as Kurama jumped down and looked down at her, noting the height difference for the first time as she barely reached his shoulder.
"Unfortunately I do not know the answer to that."
Kurama didn't want to tell the vixen that this dilluma had been bothering him since their meeting as well.
Yuri sighed heavily, her ears focusing on Yusuke complaining about how much rubbing alcohol Botan was using causing her to look over at the building and sigh again.
"I don't know how I know you, but I can tell you're powerful. Yusuke is a young Detective. You could easily overpower him right now. I'm not sure if you're doing it the easy way because you know that the mirror will take your life and you won't have to face the consequences for your actions. Or if you take pity on him."
Kurama continued to look at the vixen as her face fell back into its usual blank expression. At not receiving an answer Yuri sighed again before saying goodbye to Kurama and jumping off the railing and landing in front of her apartment door before walking in to see Yusuke was asleep and Botan was waiting for her.
"How did it go?"
She asked happily while Yuri walked over and worked on healing her cousin.
"I didn't find anything we didn't already know. Koenma had me so busy I didn't get a chance to look into my own file."
Botan smiled, she knew her friend was still trying to piece together her past and what the connection could be to Kurama.
"I wish I could remember my past."
Yuri mumbled before finishing her healing and telling Botan she was calling it a night.
Three Days Later
Yuri followed Kurama and Yusuke as they walked, Kurama had called Yusuke out of school, after a few minutes the trio reached the hospital. With a sigh Yuri waited on the roof as her ears focused on what was happening in the floors below her feet. After a few moments the boys came up to the roof and Kurama looked over at her as Yusuke waited for an explanation.
"It's complicated. To her, I'm Shuichi. And she did give birth to me, sort of."
Yusuke voiced Yuri's question.
"How could she "sort of" do that?"
Kurama continued.
"By a deception that's lasted for 15 years. I'm actually a Yoko. An enchanted fox."
Yuri felt her eyes widen.
That explains a few things.
"My specialty was undoing seals and codes and stealing the ancient treasures and weapons they secured. But my luck ran out and I ran afoul of a powerful bounty hunter. Badly injured, I assumed soul form and escaped into the Human World. I was too weak to shift into Human Form or possess a body, so there was only one option: Enter an embryo before it acquired a proper soul. In 10 years or so my powers would return and my body become fully inhuman, at which point I'd leave the family. That, at least, was the plan."
Yuri nodded and lifted herself onto the railing to sit.
Yusuke asked another question.
"It didn't work out?"
Kurama turned and looked at Yusuke.
"You saw the scars on her arms."
Yusuke was hesitant.
"Yeah…They looked old."
Kurama explained that when he was six years old he came home from school and tried to reach a can in a cabinet and slipped, his mother caught him and was badly cut in the process.
"The scars remained. I tried to leave many times, but my father had died long before and she would have been all alone. I kept seeing those scars, that smile. I couldn't bring myself to do it. It shouldn't have been possible for a creature with a Demon Heart, but when she became gravely ill, all doubt vanished. I was a son who loved his mother. Now, she has maybe a month to live. I can save her with this mirror, Yusuke. That's all that matters to me. Once that's done, I'll return it and surrender myself."
Yuri spoke up.
"That would leave her all alone without her child."
Kurama looked over at her.
"Not quite. She's been seeing someone. He's the president of a small company where she's worked part-time. Once she's well. She'll actually be better off without me."
Yuri shook her head, obviously disagreeing with his logic.
"Why are you telling me this?"
Yusuke asked.
"Maybe I needed to bare my soul to someone who was willing to trust me."
Yuri nodded in understanding, even more confused about her past. Suddenly a man came running yelling that Kurama's mother had taken a turn for the worse.
Yuri cast another glamor that made her invisible to humans and quickly followed after the boys, slipping around the doctor and nurses as she quickly started trying to heal what she could of the human. Maybe if I can get rid of the illness he won't have to use that mirror. She thought as Kurama and Yusuke left the room. Minutes later Yuri was thrown back as the mirror used its power to heal Kurama's mother. Groaning, Yuri stood up and left the room before dropping her glamor, still appearing human as Kurama went rushing past her. Shaking her head she walked on to the roof to see Yusuke alive as well.
"What happened?"
She asked as she walked over to Yusuke.
"I gave some of my life so Kurama wouldn't lose his."
Yuri shook her head and smacked him in the back of the head.
"Ow! Yuri! What was that for?!"
Yuri sighed as Yusuke rubbed his head.
"You idiot. It could have taken your life instead and then all that grief your mother and I went through would happen all over again!"
Yusuke grabbed the mirror.
"That's true. I didn't think about that."
Yuri shook her head again.
"Come on Yusuke, let's go home."
That's it for this one!
I hope everyone enjoyed it!
