Jack was lying down on the floor with his back against it. His chests pumping in and out at a high speed as his eyes were bulging at the sight above him. His uncontrollable constant breathing was due to a crushing level of pressure amounted on his ribs.

It was because a purple cat was seen above him, Vanexa, giving him a feral glare. Her fangs showing as she growls softly at him, her hands pinning him tightly on the ground.

Jack with a million thoughts and emotions racing across in his mind had one thing to say.

"How the hell did I end up like this?" He sighs at the current predicament he got himself into.

A FEW HOURS AGO

Jack was seen taking out some books from his locker. As he carefully reaches for a book and took it out, he noticed something about it's title.

ROMEO AND JULIET

Ahh, a classic tale of romance which ended on a very miserable and dark tone but a romance classic nonetheless.

He then turned his head to the side to see a couple of wolves making out near the lockers. It was a sight to behold but he felt uncomfortable at the sight and didn't feel the need to intrude in their privacy. He turns the other way around to see a girl fixing the hair on her partner. Jack immediately turns his head back to his locker and he felt something he never felt before.

Longing. A longing for someone to love him. Someone he could be intimate with but in the end who would feel that way. After all, he was nothing but a broken and unlucky mess of a jackal. No girl would feel attracted to something like that.

He closes his eyes as he lets out a heavy sigh. His hand then pushes the locker door, closing it immediately as he turns away. He then makes his way to the theatre hall to meet his friends.

As he entered the theatre, he was greeted by his best friend from afar.

"Hey Jack!" Zill greeted him with a charming smile, waving his hand.

"Hey there Zill!" Jack greeted back as he climbs onto the stage.

"How ya doing man?!" Zill politely asks him.

"Doing fine, ya know. Same old, same old!"

"Cool! Anyway, dude, I have something to tell ya!" Zill was acting all excited.

"Okay?... What is it?" Curiosity filled Jack's mind as he wonders what it might be.

"There's this really cool new theme park that just opened up at New Haven! Not only did I get free entrance, I also got reservations at the Silver Star Resort besides it for 3 days next month!! Summer break's about to start as well!!"

"Holy shit! No way! Isn't that place like 5 stars? Heard that you need to literally kill for a spot!" Jack exclaims in disbelief.

"I know right! Well, I didn't really kill anyone so don't worry! Luckily, I knew a guy who works there! I saved his grandma before from some alley thugs and he decided to repay the favour!"

"Wow! Good for you, I hope you have fun with Kayla!."

"Well the thing is, I actually got two rooms and since me and Kayla are staying in one, I thought of inviting you as well!" Zill beams at Jack and he immediately carried an excited face.

Who wouldn't want to go to a high ante theme park?! Not to mention a 5 star resort! It'll probably be a once in a lifetime experience but something was poking the back of his mind.

"Umm, thanks Zill but... I really don't think it's a good idea to take me with ya! I mean... it's probably be a golden chance for you to have some fun time with Kayla and I don't want to ruin it for you guys because of... ya know..." Jack hints at his curse as he showing Zill his 'lucky' cast. A reminder of his constant bad luck.

"What?! Dude, you've been my friend for years now! I don't care about some curse. Plus, I'm pretty sure Kayla doesn't mind! Come on, it'll be fun!" Zill tries to convince Jack giving him a playful nudge.

Jack was still unconvinced and due to the unpredictable nature of his curse, he just shook his head.

"I dunno, maybe you should ask Spam instead?" Jack suggest at Zill.

"I thought you'd say that but I'm afraid Spam's busy this summer break. Come on, we never get to hang out these days. Wouldn't let a buddy down would ya?" Zill pouts as he really wanted to hang out with Jack.

"Look Zill, even if I was able to get my stupid curse under control, wouldn't it be awkward for one guy to intrude on your possible date? Kayla's probably excited to spend time with you! I'll just be a nuisance anyway..."

"Well then, why don't you ask Vanexa to tag along with ya? It'll be like a double date! You won't be feeling awkward then!" Kayla suddenly chimes out of nowhere as Zill puts his arm around her and gives her a kiss on the head.

"V-Vanexa?! W-what gave you that idea?" Jack immediately shook his head under a nervous tone.

"What?! I thought you liked her!!" Kayla says out loud which made Jack panicked.

"Sshhhhhh, don't say it out loud will ya!" Jack warns in a low voice as he frantically looks around to see if anyone heard them.

"Wait, Jack... you have a thing for... Vanexa?" Zill asks him surprised at the sudden confession.

Jack holds it in for a while, keeping silent before sighing and nodding slowly in defeat, embarrassed with the answer he gave.

"What? Really?" Zill asks again this time with a hint of excitement for his friend which made Jack rub the back of his neck in sheer humiliation and discomfort.

"Look, I wasn't sure about it at that time but, three weeks ago...-

LAST WEEK

It was a busy day for all of the theatre club members. The students were seen scrambling around the theatre setting up decorations, testing the lighting and some were even carrying the heavy equipment around the stage.

"Zill!!! Can you help with the piano?!!" Jack asks as he tries to pull the piano somewhere but fails miserably. He only ended up falling down and hurting himself.

"You're okay buddy?! It's okay, I'll take it from here!" Zill tells Jack as he lends an arm and lifts him from the ground.

"Thanks.." Jack says as he rubs the back of his head in sheer embarrassment.

"Don't mention it!"

Zill then proceeds by lifting the piano above his head with ease, showing his monstrous strength.

Jack just looks in awe at his friend's strength even though he already saw it a thousand times before.

Jack wipes off the dust on his body as he looks around, trying to find a task to do. Suddenly he heard something, he saw Zill and Damian bickering over something. It's probably had something to do with Kayla so Jack just sighs at his cousin.

"10 bucks says you can't remember her birthday!" Damian instigates Zill with a mischievous smile.

"Oh yeah?! Wanna bet?!!" Zill snarls as he puts down the piano he was holding and clenches his fists, making them glow a bright green tone.

"BOYS!!!"

Both of them turn their heads at the source of the yelling. Jackie was crossing her arms while giving them a stern gaze. Her feet rapidly tapping on the floor marking her seriousness.

"Sorry Jackie!!" Both of them drop their head down in compliance as Jackie just sighs at the two hot headed rivals.

"Just shake on it and apologize okay? Sounds good?" Jackie suggests switching from her stern look to a jolly smile.

"Fine!!" Zill grunts annoyed as he reluctantly extends his hand.

Damian didn't even face Zill but did the same anyways. Soon, both of their hands join together as they shake for a truce. A momentary truce.

Out of nowhere, an electrifying jolt flowed through Zill's hand as he jumped at the shocking sensation. He wildly shakes his hand in a vertical motion trying to dissipate the numbing pain.

On the other hand, Damian was rolling on the stage, cackling hard. He holds his stomach while tears was escaping from his eyes, finding it humorous that Zill fell for the oldest trick in the book.

"Oh you should have seen the look on your face!" Damian stands up still maintaining his mischievous cackle.

However, his pride became his fall. Due to his constant laughter, he failed to notice that Zill already recovered and boy he didn't look very happy. Like a flash of lightning, Zill charges towards the unsuspecting Damian. His hands then pushes hard against Damian's chest sending him flying.

However, Zill didn't calculate where he would fly towards. Unluckily for him, Damian was making his way towards a ladder which had Vanexa on top.

Jack immediately noticed where Damian was heading as he begins to frown.

"Oh no!!" He thought in his mind.

Seconds after, Damian crashes against the bottom of the ladder causing it to shake wildly. Vanexa who was hanging some drapes on the ceiling was immediately caught off guard by the sudden wobble. The ladder swung from side to side as Vanexa manages to hang onto the drapes before the heavy ladder tumbled down onto the stage making thunderous crashing noise.

However, she still wasn't out of hot water just yet, her hands was slipping from from the smooth surface of the cloth. Her eyes went wide as she tries to claw onto the cloth but to no avail.

Soon, she lost the last of her grip as she came descending. The crowd gasps at the sight but Jack already made his move.

As Vanexa was inch from crashing down onto the hard wooden floor, Jack immediately dashes towards her. He reaches his hand out as he tries to catch her or at least to try and break her fall. Unfortunately for him, it was the latter.

Vanexa crashes onto Jack as the wooden floor of the stage cracks before both of them fell through the stage. Splinters of wood exploded with a smoke of dust at the hard fall.

Vanexa opens her eyes slowly after she felt herself landing. Luckily, she wasn't badly injured. However, she felt something beneath her as she immediately turns around to see Jack unconscious. One of his arms and both of his leg was mangled in a gruesome state while blood could be seen pouring from his mouth and nose.

"JACK??!!! JACK!!!"

All he heard was a muffled call for him but he didn't have the power nor the ability to open his eyes. It felt like a dream, with nothing that he could remember. It didn't feel long when he reached out for the light.

Jack woke up as his body shot upwards. His chest was pumping like a piston as he immediately grabs his chest. He was sweating buckets as his eyes were wide open.

He looks to his left to see a row of familiar beds as he continue to pant out. Suddenly, he felt someone tackling him back to his bed. His eyes race towards the person.

"Jack!! You're awake!! I'm sorry Jack!! I'm really, really sorry!!" It was Vanexa weeping for him as she had her arms around him tight.

Jack was taken aback but manages to compose himself as he puts his arm around hers.

"Hey, hey, it's fine Vanexa! I'm fine but are you okay?" Jack was immediately concerned for her as he remembers her falling down.

"I'm sorry Jack!" Vanexa didn't hear his questions as she continues sobbing. Jack knew that she must have been worried about him as she just continues his embrace.

"You don't have to worry Mr Wells! She didn't sustain any serious injuries!" Dr. Keiko suddenly arrives at his bed with good news.

Vanexa notices her and let's go of Jack while wiping her eyes. Dr. Keiko just smiles at the two. Now that Vanexa has let go, Jack tries to sit up straight but he winced in pain after feeling his muscles pulling themselves.

"You should lie down for now Mr. Wells!" Dr Keiko advices him.

"I-I'm fine!" Jack pants through his pain

"Vanexa wasn't hurt?" Jack asks again for confirmation as Dr. Keiko smiles at the young man's caring nature.

"Luckily for her, you managed to break her fall and all she got was a minor bruise on her head. Though... it's lucky you have that curse, anyone else would already died from the injuries you had! I can't tell if you're just plain reckless or brave!" Dr. Keiko tells Jack as he couldn't resist the urge to chuckle. His curse sometimes try to maintain the facade of a blessing. It's something that he always felt conflicted on.

"Well, let's hope it's the latter!!" Jack tries to joke even with the constant pulse of pain.

"Anyway, thanks Doc!" Jack thanks her while she just puts s perplexed complexion.

"Don't thank me! I barely did anything! If anyone should be thanked, it should be her!" Dr. Keiko points at Vanexa.

"She's been besides you for the last couple hours! She even put on some healing magic for you!" Dr. Keiko adds.

Jack turns towards Vanexa with a grateful smile.

"Thank you Vanexa! This means a lot!" Jack thanks her as Vanexa was surprised at his gratefulness.

"No, thank you Jack!" Vanexa respond while rubbing some tears if her eyes.

Vanexa suddenly carves a smile at Jack.

In all his years at the ZPA, there was something that he never got to see. Looking at her smile face to face, something inside Jack suddenly sparked. He could feel his heart beating at the sight of her smile. It was something he didn't know he needs but it was cut short.

"Well, Ms. Pierce, why don't you leave Mr. Wells to rest. You have class remember?" Dr. Keiko reminds Vanexa as she reluctantly stood up.

As she walks out the door, she turns her head one last time at Jack before smiling again making Jack's heart flutter. Dr. Keiko just giggles at Jack's reaction before telling him something.

"You should rest now Mr. Wells. You can leave when school's over. Zechariah already permitted your absence due to your heroic efforts. This painkillers should reduce the pain!" Dr. Keiko explains as she puts two pills of painkillers on the desk besides his bed.

"And...while you're here, maybe you can spend the time to think about how hard 'you' fell!" Dr. Keiko giggles at Jack before leaving the medic room.

Jack blushed at her words but knew for it to be true. He looks up at the ceiling with a thought running laps in his mind.

"I think I'm in love!"

PRESENT TIME

- and that's how..." Jack finishes while looking downwards embarrassed.

"Dude!!! You should have told me sooner man!!" Zill was totally flabbergasted at the fact that Jack didn't tell him.

"I know but I just didn't want anyone else finding out!" Jack reveals which made Zill nod slowly.

"So, have you tried confessing to her?" Zill asks Jack.

"Well..." Jack displays a nervous outlook before Kayla cuts him off.

"Well, that's the problem... he can't!" Kayla tells Zill which makes him raise an eyebrow.

"You can't? Why?" Zill asks Jack.

"Haaaa" Jack sighs heavily.

"I tried but... she's been keeping some distance from me ever since that day!" Jack reveals which made Zill even more confused.

"Huh? Are you sure? I mean... I get that Vanexa prefers her silence but she wouldn't just avoid anyone who comes up to her!" Zill explains which suddenly makes Jack frown. Zill notices the sad tone he was expressing.

"That's just it... maybe she just doesn't like me to begin with... Which is why I decided to keep this a secret before Kayla figured out I have a crush on her a week back!" Jack sobs as his ears droop down.

Zill shares a concerned glance towards Kayla who also share a similar concern. She then tilts her head slightly nudging Zill to comfort his friend.

"Well, maybe she's just shy, because you saved her! Right Kayla?" Zill explains to Jack as Kayla nods at his statement.

"Jack, I know Vanexa. And trust me, as a girl... I know whatever the case might be, it wouldn't hurt to confess to her. And maybe it'll be something that you might not regret!" Kayla tries to convince Jack.

Slowly, a smile starts to carve itself on Jack's face as he looks at his two best friends.

"Really?"

"Positive!!" Kayla answers with a confident look giving Jack some encouragement.

"Alright, I'll try to talk to her today. Wherever she might-

"Jack!! There you are!!" A voice suddenly calls out to him from afar. The trio turn their heads to see Cameron, sprinting towards their spot.

"Ms Walden?"

"Jack!! Come with me, now!" She invites him to follow her as the trio was confused as to what's going on.

"Come with you? Where? What's going on?" Jack asks her as Cameron was trying to catch her breath.

"We need to go to the infirmary. It's Vanexa!!" Cameron explains as the three look at each other.

SOME TIME LATER

In front of the infirmary stood three figures. It was Zechariah, Carrie and Dr. Keiko. All three of them had a serious look plastered on their face.

Carrie suddenly turns her head when she hears footsteps rushing their way.

"Cam!! You made it! You brought the kid?" Carrie asks her from afar as Jack appears behind her.

"Hi everyone, what's happening? Where's Vanexa?!" Jack asks them in a concerned tone.

"I think it would be appropriate if Keiko explains the situation!" Zechariah turns to her as Keiko nods.

"Jack, come here for a second..." She calls for him bringing him further than the rest of the group.

As he walks to her, he could see the windows of the infirmary being clouded by some sort of magenta glow and the door to the infirmary was instead replaced with a smooth looking wall which had the same glow.

"W-what's going on?" Jack asks her.

"What do you know about heat cycle, Mr. Wells?" Dr. Keiko asks him as Jack carves a confused look.

"H-heat? As in the things that girls get?" Jack stumbles in his words.

"Well, at least you get the gist of it. Anyways, Vanexa have this sort of rare condition that makes her wild and ferocious during her time of heat. It's got something to do with her magic and basically it makes her go feral!" She explains to Jack as he becomes more worried.

"So, can't you just give her some pills or something?" Jack asks her as Dr. Keiko gives out an uncertain look.

"That's the problem, we can but we have a few problems. The medicine we need is still an hour away from arrival and although we do have a sort of a pill that will reduce the effects, we can't give it to her to say the least!" Dr. Keiko reveals which confuses Jack.

"Why?" Jack asks her as she points back at the infirmary.

"You see the purplish pink looking thing covering the infirmary?"

"Y-yeah..."

"She's basically trapped inside the infirmary because of it!" Dr. Keiko reveals as Jack became even more concerned.

"Her magic sort of went haywire when she came to the infirmary earlier and now the purple barrier's blocking everyone from entering! I'm afraid that her magic is unstable and in her condition, she might just hurt herself by accident!" She explains as Jack was horrified if anything terrible happened to her.

"Can't we just disable the barrier with magic then?"

"No, I'm afraid we can't but I think you might!" Dr. Keiko says as Jack was taken aback.

"M-me?! B-but, I don't know anything about magic!"

"You're right, but I believe you're the only one that can enter the barrier!"

"W-what? How'd you know that?"

"I don't! Vanexa kept muttering your name before she went feral so you're our only shot!"

Jack looks back at the infirmary, gazing at the barrier. He knew Vanexa is trapped inside and the only one who could save her again was him.

"What do I need to do doc?" Jack asks her.

"Simple, you take this pill.." Keiko hands him a purple coloured pill.

"And make her consume it. It should calm her down at least until the meds arrive!" Keiko explains nonchalantly.

"Well... that sounds simple..."

Jack didn't know at that time but it was harder than what he thought.

Jack stood in front of the purple barrier as he took one last look at the pill inside his hand.

He then reaches his arm out at the barrier as he touches the surface. Suddenly, his arm went through the barrier as if there was nothing there. The other adults look at him with surprise while Cameron was holding her palms together wishing for his safety.

"Good luck!" Dr. Keiko wishes him as Jack takes a step inside the barrier.

Soon, he was inside the infirmary.

He gaze upon the sight of a chaotic mess. The fabric of the beds were torn with cotton scattered on the floor. Claw marks were visible on the walls and glass. It's as if a battle took place.

Suddenly, he could here growling on the corner of the infirmary. He turns to see Vanexa crouching in the corner as she was tearing through a pillow. Jack gulps at the sight but he tries to steel himself and moves closer to her.

His leg moves ever so slowly trying to not alert her. He even breathes as slow as possible as he tries to sneak up behind her.

The only problem is getting her to consume the pill. He doubts that she'll even listen to him at this state.

Due to the constant thoughts running in his mind, he fails to notice a glass cup in front of him. His foot suddenly bumps into it as it was sent rolling towards Vanexa.

She immediately froze before slowly turning towards Jack. Her pupils were shrunk as she delivered Jack a ferocious gaze. The fur around her body messy and her claws was peaking through her paws. Her fangs protruding as she gives him a low growl.

"Oh fuck!" Jack thought.

She suddenly growls loudly before dashing towards him on all four legs. Jack immediately turns around as he tries to run away from her but due to his unlucky nature, he tripped and fell on his stomach. His hands gave in as the pill flew from his grip, landing a few inches away from him. He immediately discarded the pain he felt as turns on his back to stand back up only to be pinned down by her.

He was immobilised, unable to move due to her unreasonable amount of strength.

"How the hell did I end up like this?!!"

He curses his terrible luck but he didn't give up. He tries to reach for the pill, only for it to continuously slip away from his grasp.

Suddenly, he froze when he hears a low growl directly above his head. He turns to face Vanexa who was snarling at him. Her snout wrinkled as her sharp fangs were gladly displaying themselves.

She closes her face on his as Jack closes his eyes, waiting for his face to be torn off from her bite. Just as he was about to embrace the pain, the growling suddenly stopped.

Jack was still afraid but he gathers enough courage to look back at her. He ends up surprised when suddenly he feels something wet pushing against his face.

It was Vanexa's tongue licking the fur on his cheeks. She continues to lick it before moving towards another spot. Jack was struggling not to laugh due to how ticklish it was. Suddenly, her lick moves towards his lips catching him off guard. However, it's as if her tongue was trying to intrude into his mouth.

The way she licks his lips made Jack blush madly.

It was like a pet licking it's master for affection. Well, too much affection.

"N-nice Vanexa..." Jack thought still partially terrified of her. As Vanexa is occupied with Jack's lips, for now, his hand slowly reach out to the pill. He fingers slowly pulls it towards him before he stashed it inside his fist.

Now, Jack knew that if he tries to force it into her mouth with his hands, she'll probably knock it away or even escape. His brain was running out of ideas before a sudden thought was lit up inside his brain. A thought that causes his cheek to flush.

As Vanexa was licking from places to places, Jack slightly turns his head before opening his mouth. He snuck the pills inside his mouth before slowly turning towards her again. As Vanexa's tongue came back to his lips, Jack closes his eyes as he opens his mouth. Her tongue enters his lips as Jack raises his head, closing in on her. Jack immediately uses his tongue and pushes the pill into her mouth as she swallows it without realising.

However, she didn't stop. Jack was still in a deep kiss as his tongue was dancing with hers. For a long time, he just indulges in the kiss forgetting his purpose. A passionate fire was lit up inside him as it sends him into overdrive as the kiss got more vigorous.

Suddenly, Vanexa separated making him snap back to reality. She suddenly fell besides him as coughs started escaping from her mouth.

Jack forgets his passionate moment as he becomes concerned again. Her coughs eventually stops but her body froze

"Vanexa!! Vanexa!! Please wake up!!" Jack shakes her shoulders as he tries to wake her up. Then, her eyes slowly opens as Jack felt relieved.

She groans out something slowly but it was inaudible as if she was tired. Jack then slowly puts his hand behind her head and legs as he lifts her bridal style.

He then puts her on a nearby bed as he sat on the side. Vanexa manages to open her eyes fully as she stares at Jack.

"W-what... happened?" She croaks with a soft voice.

"Don't ask me. Even I don't know what happened to you..."

"Do you remember anything?" Jack asks her.

"I don't know. I remember feeling pain, my senses dulling. And then there's flashes. I remember chasing you and then..." She suddenly blush at the thought as she swiftly looks away from him, avoiding his eyes.

"D-did I... do anything... weird?" Vanexa asks which confirms Jack's suspicion.

"I'm s-sorry. I had to do it. It was the only way to make you eat the pill!" Jack turns his head as he rubs the back of his head, also blushing.

"It-it's fine!" Vanexa stutters as Jack was relieved. Jack then slowly looks back at Vanexa as she did the same.

"Vanexa, can you tell me what actually happened?" Jack asks her. Vanexa kept silent as she bit her lip. A sigh escapes from her mouth as she looks at Jack.

"It all started 3 weeks back when you saved me. Ever since that day... I felt something in me. A longing to be besides you and that's how it started. I get weird every time I see you. It's as if I want you, every part of you all to myself. I want to hold you, I want to taste you... I want..." She pauses as she looks down at the white fabric of the bed embarrassed.

"But I didn't want to ruin our friendship because of it. I was afraid of being alone. As much as it hurts, I tried to avoid you so the feelings won't come back. I didn't realize at that time but because of it, my 'heat' started."

"Doc told me earlier about it but what does it mean exactly?" Curiosity filling Jack's tongue.

"I guess it's sort of instinct where my body craves for... sexual attention..." She was trying hard to avoid Jack's gaze as she mutters the last part.

"Usually, the heat in my family always starts during our late 20s or early 30s but I never thought it would start this early for me!"

"I guess it's because of the feelings. I guess my body thought I found the right... 'mate'..." Vanexa looks at Jack for a second as Jack was still dumfounded by everything.

"When I finally figured it out, it was too late. My mind became clouded and then, this..."

She suddenly starts sobbing. Her tears fell from her eyes to her bed.

"I'm, I'm sorry Jack. I wanted to tell you that I... I love you but... I was too afraid. I didn't want to lose the people that I care about but now, you almost got hurt again... because of me..."

Vanexa was bawling her eyes out as her paws grip tightly onto the fabric of the bed. Suddenly, she feels Jack's hand cupping her face. He suddenly turns it as Vanexa faces him.

She was taken aback when he went for her lips. She didn't want to question it as she closes her eyes. This time the kiss was more loving and warm. It was a feeling that both of then didn't want to end. The feeling of his warm lips touching hers. They sat on the bed, still indulging in their kiss before finally separating.

Jack looks into her eyes with a loving gaze.

"Vanexa... I love you too! To be honest, I also fell in love with you that day... But I was always so afraid of being rejected that I shut my feelings out... But now, knowing you had the same feeling as well... I'd hope you forgive me."

She smiles at his confession. It was a warm smile that made Jack feel as if he's the luckiest person in the world.

"Thank you Jack!"

Both of them soon embrace themselves in a warm hug, holding onto each other tightly.

"So... 'mate' huh?" Jack asks her when they separated earning a blush from her.

"I'm sorry, it's a family thing..." Vanexa explains trying to hide her obvious flustered face.

"It's cool. Though, you were pretty wild earlier..." Jack recollects when she was feral.

"D-did you like it?" Vanexa suddenly ask which took Jack off guard.

"L-like it? I- I mean... it was p-pretty hot I guess..." Jack was flustered at her sudden question. Soon, Jack's mind begins to replay her wild kiss like it's a movie.

Vanexa giggled at his reaction when suddenly something caught her eyes. It was a pulsing bulge in between Jack's legs.

Jack notices where she was looking as he immediately covers it, immediately looking away. He couldn't stop from feeling his cheeks burning from sheer embarrassment.
