Chapter 8 – The First Lessons
Hadriana had looked through the map they had gotten, but she knew that with her luck she wouldn't be able to get there quite on time, especially with Ron following her around like a headless chicken. Right, this minute they were running late to transfiguration, and as they came in everyone else was already sitting in their assigned seats.
There was a tabby cat sitting on the table in the front, and she could tell that it was a person from the way it was sitting and not wandering around.
"Whew! We made it. could you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late?" Ron told her giving her a smile.
Hadriana laughed and hit him over the head, "If you had paid attention to me, we would have gotten here a lot earlier, and for god's sake Ronald the professor is sitting on the table in the front!" she said, taking a gamble that it was the professor and walked over to an empty seat in the front.
When she had done so, the cat sitting on the desk, jumped off, turning into the professor mid-air, giving the two of them the sternest look she could muster.
Hadriana silently laughed at her younger self because it was funny to hear herself say something like that, and it was good.
Even McGonagall, let out a good chuckle at that, even proud to see that at least one of her future students could see it. "Old?" she glared at Ron, and everyone laughed as they saw Ron turn bright red.
"Bloody brilliant!" Ron said loudly having not seen Hadriana walk off, and it even didn't look like he had even heard what she had said.
"Brilliant!" Hadriana whispered quietly, as she suddenly wanted to know how she could also manage this transformation.
"Oh, thank you for that assessment, Mr Weasley. You should listen to your friend there; Potter had an idea of where I was. Remember to come on time next time." Professor McGonagall told them sternly though proud that someone could see through it.
The whole room snickered at Ron, and his gaping mouth, even Hadriana did though she did it discreetly wondering if the guy would get a clue. While Professor McGonagall looked at her with a smile, like she knew things that she herself didn't know.
There were more snickers all around the hall at what was happening, even Ron was laughing – "I got a clue, years in the future." He said proudly with a smirk, making everyone laugh at him again.
Hadriana sighed as she had a feeling that this was a class, she would have trouble with the potion lab was deary and dark, and it smelled awful. Every student was seated with their houses and potions in front of them. Hadriana was talking with another Gryffindor girl together with Hermione about the class they were going to have now.
When Professor Snape came in by slamming the door open loudly, Hadriana did not know what to make of the professor that clearly glanced at her with disdain. "There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that potion making is. However, for those select few who possess the predisposition… I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can't tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death!"
"Damn, dramatic much!" James said shocked over how Snape managed to get everyone to quiet down. The whole hall was in absolute silence after it was shown, but also because of James Potter's quiet observation that was without disdain. "Didn't know you could be so damn intimidating, Sev," Barty commented afterwards not knowing how to take James's mellowness overseeing what was happening with his enemies.
Young Sirius was just glaring at everyone and anybody that was saying anything at all because he did not understand it and things were changing so fast that he did not know how to act.
*Were you really that oblivious, and jealous when you were that young? * Hadriana asked Sirius with wonder in her voice because she could feel the quiet disbelief Young Sirius felt all the way over to where they were sitting.
*Think so, I didn't wise up until you were born or was it when I began to work as an Auror? * Sirius sighed though it was beginning to be tedious to feel his younger self being jealous over his relationship.
Hadriana hummed in expiration because how can someone be so different when they have grown into themselves, but she liked her Sirius the most because he could see the bigger picture in life than being petty.
"Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to not pay attention." Professor Snape said looking at Hadriana, who were seen writing down key point in his speech. Hermione hit Hadriana with her elbow, as the professor was looking angrier and angrier.
Hadriana looked up at her professor with a smile that would have charmed everyone else, but not him as he did not believe that she had followed his speech, and with that, he scowled at her lightly.
Ms Potter. Our newest celebrity. Tell me, what would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" Professor Snape asked while Hermione's arm shot straight up into the air.
Hadriana looked like she was contemplating something, "If you were observant enough you would have seen me writing down what you were saying, but I don't know the answer because it wasn't in the book I got." She said and gave a little smirk.
"That's true, we didn't learn that until our third year!" a Ravenclaw yelled, but it was drowned out by the hall laughing at what a younger Hadriana had said to counter Snape's words. Even Snape chuckled at the words, while the others looked on in surprised the marauders more than anyone else.
Snape turned around in expiration, but tried not to laugh making him angrier, "You don't know? Well, let's try again. Where, Ms Potter, would you look if asked you to find me a bezoar?" he asked her again.
Hadriana looked down, "Don't know, but I would think your potion cupboard!" and said it in such a voice that would have sounded so innocent if she hadn't given a smile that said otherwise.
"That's true!" laughed Lily, smiling at her oldest friend that she hadn't parted ways in an amicable way in her fifth year.
"As we didn't learn this before the second year." One other student says after in indignation wondering what was happening, and why the man was doing.
*I didn't know that you could be that sassy! * Laughed Sirius like he couldn't believe that this was his wife. *You know it! * Hadriana said, and hugged Teddy into herself to see if he had it fine with everything that was happening. Finding him snuggling into her, was the best thing in the whole world.
The whole classroom was quiet at that point, and Hermione looked at her like she couldn't believe that someone would talk back to a teacher, the others were in shock because no one of them would have managed to do it like that.
Snape was also seen turning away from the class, sighed, and turning towards her again with an air of indifference, "and what is the difference between, Monkshood and wolfsbane." He asked her once again.
This was something she knew because we learned about it in school, "Actually it's the same plant, and it's more commonly known as Aconite."
Again, there was laughter over something so insignificant, but there was also indignation over that question like that could be asked of first years that hadn't even had a single potion lesson before.
"Wolfsbane?" Remus asked in wonder, Hadriana turned towards him with a smile on her face that said it all without having to tell him anything.
"It's a potion, it relieves the effects of transforming for werewolves in the future," Hermione told him and warned him that it hasn't yet been discovered as Remus's eyes widened. "It's not a cure, but it helps."
Hermione was jumping up and down like a frantic witch, and that irritated Hadriana like nothing had ever before done.
"Take your hand down Ms Granger…" Professor Snape told the girl irritated, "and that's correct Ms Potter. Maybe you aren't a dunderhead like your father." And turned o the class, "Why aren't you writing this down!" he barked out to them all.
"Don't worry mum, something happened in my fifth year that made us see each other's side!" Hadriana told them that things were going to be easier between them and that things weren't that far in the future.
Snape was trying not to show how it affected him that that's how he behaved, though, he was glad that the young miss Potter could at least stand up to him.
Hadriana was now sitting in the great hall, besides Ron who was trying to be as irritating as possible as the others were trying to study. Seamus was pointing his wand at a cup of water trying to turn it into rum.
Hadriana laughed at his attempts, but she knew that if he really wanted, he would find a way to do it.
"You know, he actually managed a weak tea yesterday-," Ron stated before he was cut off by a loud explosion. The cup of water had exploded in Seamus's face causing water and ash to go everywhere.
"Did he manage it?" Professor McGonagall asked as a precaution for the future while she contemplated retiring.
"It was one heck of an eight-year!" was all that Hadriana said to that question, "it was!" Hermione said in agreement with laughter silently going through her as she remembered what happened.
"Eight years?" was everyone's thought at that wondering what happens in the future to get that eight-year going.
Hermione was waving her hand around, trying to get rid of the smoke when a loud noise made everyone look up.
"Ah, mails are here," Ron said, as many different owls carrying letters and packages filled the room looking for their owners.
An owl dropped a letter and a copy of the daily prophet to Ron. "Can I borrow this? Thanks!" Hadriana said after Ron had nodded and carefully grabbed the newspaper to read. Then Neville could be seen opening a small round package until it finally opened, and he pulled out a see-through ball.
"Hey, look. Neville got a remember ball." Dean Thomas said out loud staring at the ball in awe.
"I've read about those. When the smoke turns red, it means that you have forgotten something." Hermione said with a smile, as the smoke turned red inside the ball.
"The only problem is, I can't seem to remember what I've forgotten," Neville said, wide-eyed as people chuckled around him.
Hadriana couldn't help but think, how the hell does she have the time to read about things like that… "You've forgotten your cloak, Neville." She reminded him kindly when no one else did seem to see it.
"That's kind of you," Alice said, with a smile. Knowing that her son had a good friend in her friend's daughter. "And you are definitely my son!" she smiled as an afterthought.
Frank gave a smile at that, as Alice blushed softly and leaned into Frank who hugged her.
"It's nothing!" Hadriana said that it was something she had always done, and it wouldn't need thanks for doing something that everyone should do to show kindness.
"Thanks, Hadri," Neville said as he looked down at himself and saw that it was true.
"You're welcome," Hadriana said and went back towards her paper and saw that Gringotts had been broken into. "Hey, Ron. Somebody has broken into Gringotts. Listen, 'Believed to be work of Dark Wizards or Witches unknown, Gringotts goblins, while acknowledging the breach insist nothing was taken. The vault in question, number 713, had been emptied earlier that very same day."
"It's odd because that's the vault Hagrid and I went to that day," Hadrian told them, as Hermione and Ron were listening, giving each other's suspicious looks because there had to be something going on.
"Something is going to happen," Remus said and shared a nod with the others in his group.
After that, the scene changed once again, to where their flying lessons for the first years. They were now all standing in the courtyard, in a green grassy area with broomsticks laying on the ground in front of them.
"We are going to see your first flying lesson!" squealed James trying to see if he could see it better by standing up.
Lily shook her head but knowing that her boyfriend loved the sport made her agree that it would be something to see it happening. However, she grabbed his arm making him sit down again.
Then a woman with grey hair, and glowing yellow eyes – hawk eyes, approached them with quick strides and walked in the middle of them all. "Good afternoon, class." The woman greeted them and stared them down.
"Good afternoon, Madam Hooch." All the students greeted her at the same time.
"Welcome to your first flying lesson. Well, what are you waiting for? Everyone steps to the left side of your broomstick. Come on, hurry up. Now stick your right hand over the broom and say up!" Hooch instructed them, and all of them followed through.
Hadriana shook her head, and stepped up to her broom fearless like always, she hoped, and said with confidence, "Up!" and with that, the broom came flying up into her hands, at first try.
James couldn't help but smile widely because his daughter was a natural, and it would be something to see her flying around.
"You know, you got a mini broomstick when you were one year old. It was something to see you hovering around the room, like a pro." Sirius told her with a smile.
"I did?" Hadriana said, knowing that it was information that she had heard before, but it was for their sake.
"Yeah," Sirius said, knowing what she was thinking about kissing her forehead in agreement. Things were great between them, and they have come a long way since their first meeting – where things had been awkward as hell.
Many quidditch players sat wide eyes struck, and hearing what she had managed to do at just one year old.
"Wow!" Hadriana whispered, as many others continued trying.
Hermione looked on at her in shock, while continuing to say, "up," but the broom never left the ground.
"They can feel that you are afraid. So, say it with confidence." Hadriana whispered to the girl, trying to give her some advice.
"Up!" Malfoy was seen saying this to his broom. It came flying up, on the first try. He looked around with a smug look, yet his expression hardened when he realized Hadriana had already done it.
"Up!" Ron said, and his broom came flying up and hitting him in the nose.
Hadriana laughed at him, he had it coming with how he sure was feeling.
"Shut up, Hadriana," Ron grumbled.
"Now once you got a hold of your broom, I want you to mount it. Grip it tight!" Madam Hooch instructed after everyone had a firm grip on their broom.
Hadriana did as told, along with everyone else.
"You don't want to be sliding off the end. When I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick off the ground, hard. Keep your broom steady, hover for a moment, then lean forward slightly and touch back down. On my whistle. Three, two…"
Neville's broom, went off on its own, making him fly like it was nervous.
Hadriana was worried about what was happening and looked toward Madam Hooch and she looked as shocked as everyone. This cant has been the first time someone has gone off like that. That doesn't make sense.
"Mr Longbottom!" Madam Hooch stammered and followed his movements with her eyes. The broom began flying forwards with speed, while people yelled from below, telling him to stop.
"Can't you see that he can't!" Hadriana told them, though, it seemed that this time every one of them was def.
There were many in the hall that were in the same mind as the younger girl, "why aren't you using your wand, Madam Hooch?" Frank asked the question everyone was thinking.
"I don't know, Mr Longbottom." Madam Hooch said, it was the future her that did that but how could she forget that she could have used her want to make it easier for the boy to get down?
"Come back down this instant." Madam Hooch yelled.
Neville held onto his broom for his life, screaming for help, as the broom moved on its own like it was moving towards the students. "Mr. Longbottom." Yelled the teacher and pulled out her wand. Then the broom flipped, making Neville hold on, upside-down, while the broom flew upwards towards the statue. His cloak suddenly got caught in the statue's spear and pulled him from his broom.
It left him hanging there before it ripped and caused him to fall to the ground and hit the ground hard.
Hadriana and the others followed Madam Hooch as she ran towards Neville, who was grabbing his wrist in pain, and trying not to cry. "Everyone out of the way." Causing students to back away when she saw Neville.
"Oh, oh, oh, dear. It's a broken wrist, poor boy."
Draco could be then seen, picking up Neville's remember-ball, that fell out of his pocket, with a smug smirk.
Madam Hooch helped Neville off the ground, before giving all the students a stern look. "Everyone is to keep their feet firmly on the ground, while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. Understand? If I see a single broom off the ground, the one riding it will find themselves out of Hogwarts before they can say quidditch." She finished and walked off with Neville.
"Did you see his face? Maybe if the fat lump had given this a squeeze, he would have remembered to fall flat on his arse." Malfoy chuckled and held the remember ball up for everyone to see, laughing together with the rest of the Slytherins.
"You were really a piece of shit, back then Draco," Neville said after he had seen what had happened after he had left with Madam Hooch.
"I know, and I am sorry for how I behaved back then." Draco winched badly at what he had said back then, and he had learned his lesson.
"I've forgiven you for far worse stuff than this," Neville said, forgiving.
Everyone not from the future was shocked over how they were friends, some of the Slytherins were laughing, and the others looked wide-eyed that they were talking about it with civility.
Narcissa couldn't help but exclaim, "DRACO!" this shut up all the other kids that were laughing over what was happening, but also wiped off the smirk Lucius had on his face.
"Sorry, mother," Draco said, he was ashamed over what had happened even now after everything that had happened.
"You know, this is your fault!" Narcissa hissed, and pointed a finger at Lucius's face, before looking back at the screen ignoring her fiancée. Lucius was shaken, and he loved her and knowing this made it harder to see how everything like that could have even happened. It made him think that something should be changed and hoped that no one of them would lose their life because of this.
"Give it here, Malfoy!" Hadriana demanded, though, it was so obvious that something was about to happen. Also, she didn't care what because if no one else would do something she would!
"I am glad that someone had the conscious to do something good, for somebody else!" somebody whispered quietly, and just a few people caught it. James, Barty, and the future did while the others were kind of oblivious for one reason or another.
James looked and felt guilty, so, he looked towards the guy and nodded in agreement that it was partly a dig at what has happened between them.
"No, I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find," Malfoy said, and mounted his broom, before taking off high in the air, waving the ball around like someone crazy. "How about the roof?" he smirked. "What's the matter, Potter? Bit beyond your reach?" he taunted.
Hadriana couldn't believe the idiot but glared because she had to do something and mounted her own broom.
However, before she could take off Hermione grabbed her arm. "Hadriana, no way!" You heard Madam Hooch; besides you don't even know how to fly."
This was something that Hadriana knew, but she couldn't help but ignore it and flew off into the air with grace.
"What an idiot!" Hermione mumbled.
"Give it here, Malfoy! Or I'll knock you off your broom." Hadriana said to him and flew towards him wobbling a little in the beginning but making it graceful.
"My daughter is going to be the best quidditch player in the world!" James said dramatically, leaning over the table, and making Lily hold him back from going over.
"OUR daughter, James," Lily told him fondly, though, that she was proud that her daughter was making it.
"Is that so?" Malfoy said, tossing the ball up in the air with one hand, and holding on to the broom with the other.
Draco watched her fly underneath him before he smirked once again. "Have it your way then." And threw the ball as far as he could.
Hadriana watched the ball before she took off, full speed, flying passed Draco, who almost fell off his broom. Just as the ball was going to hit a nearby window, Hadriana caught it with one hand, not noticing Professor McGonagall had watched the whole thing from the other side of the window.
Flying to the ground, many of her Gryffindor roommates ran over to her and congratulated her for catching the ball.
"That was wicked, Hadriana." Someone said behind her, and Hadriana sighed laying the ball in her robes to give it to Neville later in the day. Professor McGonagall came all of a sudden like an owl, interrupting their small celebration.
"Hadriana Potter! Follow me!" the professor yelled, causing everyone to spin around with wide eyes and her smile fell away slowly.
Everyone laughed that she was in trouble, and Hadriana sighed sadly and followed the professor into the school. Even when she was still holding onto her broom, as McGonagall stopped at a classroom. "Wait here!"
"Professor Quirrell, excuse me, excuse me, could I borrow Wood for a moment please?" The professor said, making Hadriana furrow her eyebrow wondering what she would do.
"Y-yes of course." Quirrell stuttered before a tall boy made himself known, he had dark brown eyes and brown hair that was swept to the side, wearing Gryffindor robes.
The boy gave Hadriana a confused glance, but she just gave a shrug in response because she didn't know the answer and he was handsome.
Professor McGonagall stepped up to them, her stern look disappeared being replaced by an excited smile. "Potter, this is Oliver Wood. Wood, I have found you a Seeker!"
All the Quidditch players sat there stunned, "You, became… a Seeker in your first year!" James said stunned, everyone else knew what was coming.
Hadriana smiled.
Silence was the response to it but then.
"YEEEESSSSS!" James yelled, stunning the whole hall with the loudness of his voice.
"James Flamount Potter!" Euphemia Potter said and grabbed him by the ear before he could run over to her granddaughter.
"It's alright!" Hadriana mumbled to her grandmother, while everyone failed to contain their laughs.
"It's amazing, congratulations." Regulus Black said, though, this gained a disgusted look from his mother, though, a proud look of his father though the last part was a surprise to him and his brother.
"Thank you!" Hadriana said as she gave him a smile. Sirius nodded to his little brother in acknowledgement, though, that gained another painfilled glance from young Sirius. *After we have seen this first movie, we must take a break and we will need that night to talk to my younger self! * Sirius sighed tiredly over the whole look he was giving them.
*I know…* Hadriana agreed that we would need to talk to him about this jealousy.
Then the scene changed again, where we could see Sir. Nicholas floating around telling anyone that would hear, about how Hadriana becoming the new Seeker. It made holding it a secret pointless.
"But first years never make the house teams! You must be the youngest Quidditch player in a-," Ron started and stared at her in awe.
Hadriana interrupted him, and it was irritating to see him look at her like he didn't know her, "in a century, according to McGonagall." She told him when Fred and George walked up behind them.
"Well done, Hadriana. Wood just told us." George said to them, giving her a large smile.
"Fred and George are on the team. Beaters." Ron informed her and made Hadriana nod. She still did not understand the whole thing.
"Our job s to make sure that you don't get bloodied up to bad. Can't make any promises of course. Rough game, Quidditch." Fred said as George continued, "Brutal. But no one's died in years, someone will vanish, occasionally." "But they'll turn up in a month or two." They finished the sentence at the same time, Ron pushed Hadriana away glaring at his brothers.
Many students laughed at the horrified expression on Hadriana's face, at hearing this.
"Oh, go on, Hadriana. Quidditch is great. Best game there is, and you'll be great too." Ron said, patting Hadriana on her back.
Molly and Arthur smiled proudly that their son was such a good friend to Hadriana, "Proud of you." Molly said with a smile, though, it was weird seeing their young son already married when he wasn't even born yet.
Hermione who had been sitting around someplace reading, heard them talking and immediately ran up to them closing her book on the way.
"But I've never even played quidditch. What if I make a fool of myself?" Hadriana said as Ron looked at her before Hermione finally reached the pair.
"You won't make a fool of yourself. It's in your blood." Hermione told Hadriana, and Ron shared a confused look with her. The scene changed to Hermione leading Hadriana to a display case, showing several trophies.
Hermione pointed to a golden plate, that had the name James Potter on it.
Hadriana looked at it with a giant smile on her face, because she hadn't known that there was something like this in the school. Sirius had only told her that her father had played Quidditch, not that something like this could be found in the school.
"Hadriana, you never told me our father played Quidditch too," Ron said in disbelief.
"I-I didn't know.!" Hadriana told him, still smiling at the award. Because how could she tell them that she could talk to someone in her mind, that had told her things about her parents – they would think her crazy.
"So, if it hadn't been for that bond the two of you share, our daughter wouldn't have known about us before Hogwarts?" Lily asked, sad that it was only because of Sirius that their daughter knew them.
"That's right," Hadriana told her mother, with a smile and she was grateful towards her husband. "Petunia never told me anything, but Siri couldn't talk to me all the time and I knew more about you when we ended up meeting for real."
"Where were we?" Remus asked confused, pointing at himself and the others while Hadriana only laughed and acknowledged.
"You will just have to wait!"
