After the door to Gaius's chambers slams closed, Gaius sighed and turned around to deal with a protective Alpha. First, he needed to grab a calming tonic and make some herbal tea for Arthur to drink so that he would let him finish treating Merlin and talk with him about his father.
Moving over to his work bench, Gaius got to work on the tea. Turning around to the shelf full of small glass bottles filled with liquid, Gaius scanned for a blue jar.
The system he had in place was his pride and joy.
Brown bottles are pain tonics for severe pain, headaches, and injuries.
Green Bottles are fever reducers, numbing creams and mild sleeping tonics.
Blue Bottles are everything to help someone calm down. These were for panic attacks, being too overwhelmed with things going on, anxiety, or losing someone close to you.
White Bottles are for hangovers.
Gaius prided himself to keep everything he does in order. The system was also easy for if he's too busy, he could send anyone to grab something that he needed just by telling them the bottle colors.
As Gaius worked on the tea, he didn't notice the door opening behind him.
"Gaius? Could I trouble you- OH!"
Gaius jumps, turns around and sees Morgana and her maid (and secret true mate) Gewn standing by the table where he ate his food. Their eyes wide as they look at Arthur on the bed hold Merlin. Growling at them.
Morgana moved to stand in front of Gwen, her cream colored ears pushed back as her tail wrapped around Gwen's wrist.
"What the hell is going on with him? Why is he growling at me? Who is that boy he's holding?"
Gaius let out a sigh.
"My lady, do not take it personally. Arthur is in a protective state right now and does not know what's going on nor recognizes you. With you being another Alpha, he is just trying to protect his mate. He's like this because of the King. Maybe it is best if you step out until I calm him down."
Morgana gasped after hearing the word 'Mate' and hearing about Uther being here.
"Wait! Did you say mate? Do you mean that Arthur has found his true mate? No wonder he's like this. If Uther was here and found out, then the state that Arthur is in can be very dangerous. What was Uther thinking! That man doesn't think. If he did anything to Arthur's mate, he would go feral and there would be no one to take the throne. What were you going to use to calm him down?"
Gaius looked at Morgana. Her face full of worry for Arthur.
"I was just about to make him some tea and add some calming tonic to it. I need him calm enough so he will let go of Merlin. I need to finish treating his injuries before he wakes up."
Morgana nodded, turning her head to Gwen who was an Omega, to give Gaius a hand.
"Gwen can help you with that. With her being another Omega, she can approach Arthur and he won't attack her. She can get him to drink the tea. That way you can treat Merlin once Arthur lets him go."
"That is a wonderful idea my Lady. The tea is ready Gwen. I'll move over to the other side of the cot and wait."
"Of course Gaius."
Gwen squeezed Morgana's hand before walking over to the bench, took the tea in hand and approached Arthur. Kneeling down, Gwen slowly moves his head, takes the tea, brings it to his lips and tilts it into his mouth.
Slowly Arthur started to drink the tea that Gwen fed him.
When the cup was drained, Gwen stepped away.
Everyone watched as Arthur's eyes slowly faded from Red to blue and his arms around Merlin loosened enough for Gaius to reach out and lay him back down.
Slowly Arthur was coming back to himself. Blinking his eyes and looking around. Then his eyes widened when he saw the girl that was like a sister to him and her maid standing in the room.
"What happened? When did you two get here?"
As Gaius worked on Merlin, Morgana sat down on the edge of the bed.
"We just got here a few minutes ago. You were in a protective state. It didn't help when Uther barged in here."
Arthur's eyes went even wider. He looked over at Gaius for confirmation.
Now finished with Merlin, Gaius nodded at what Morgana said.
"She is correct Sir. Somehow your father found out that you had found your True Mate and he was not happy. You were already agitated by me treating Merlin and I would have gotten you out of it, but then your father stormed in here in a fit of rage and in his Alpha state that he made it so much worse. If it wasn't for Gwen and Morgana, I do not think I could have snapped you out of it. I would have tried to get you to drink the tea, but I don't think that would have worked. Either I would have waited for Merlin to wake up, or have another Omega here to help sooth you."
(A/N: Just to clarify, When an Alpha is in this kind of state and if their Omega was not around, Only another Omega can sooth them. Beta's can try, but they don't have the pheromones that Omega's have to try and calm an Alpha enough to get treatment. If they are like this and another Alpha comes around like Uther, it makes it so much worse. If Uther would have touched Arthur in that state, Uther would probably be dead. Lol, but the story needs him, so he backed off. Some Omega's Alpha's will allow around them, but some Omega's have an off smell that Alpha won't let around them. Like Johnathan. He smells horrible to Arthur.)
Arthur looked down at his mate, who was still sleeping. His hand went to his head and raked his fingers through his hair to sooth him.
"How in the hell did my father find out?"
Gaius just shook his head.
"I do not know Sir, but he was angry. He wanted to banish Merlin from Camelot, but I told him that he was my nephew and I would not allow it. I also reminded him that if he were to banish or kill Merlin, that you would go feral and there would be nothing that would stop you. He was not happy with that, but because Merlin is your True Mate, he really can't do anything about it. Before he left he said that once you snapped out of your protective state, that you were to go see him immediately and NOT to brink Merlin."
Arthur growled at the information. Knowing that Gaius was right, he had to go and face his father, Arthur bent down and kissed Merlin's forehead. Nuzzling him, before standing up.
"I'll be back as soon as I can. Morgana, Gwen, could you two stay here with Gaius and watch over him? I'll try to be back as fast as I can."
Morgana smiled at the man she considered a brother.
"Of course Arthur. We will watch over him. I will not allow harm to come to him. I promise."
Giving them a smile and a nod, Arthur looked at Merlin one last time, before walking out of Gaius's chambers. Heading for the council chambers. Hands clenched into fists and anger set upon his face.
~Uthur~
Uther slammed open the doors to the council chambers. His face red with anger.
The noise caused the advisors and guards to jump in fear.
"S-s-sir? Is everything alright?"
Uther looked over at one of his advisor's. Sir Brunner.
"Absolutely not! Arthur has found his true mate. His fucking mate is a peasant boy from outside of Camelot. The thing that has captured my son's heart is a filthy, skinny Omega fox thing. I WILL not allow this to ruin the Pendragon name. I need you to find a way to fix this. He must marry a princess. Do you understand me? Find a way to fix this. NOW!"
All of the advisors jumped up, bowed and literally ran from the chambers. Tails tucked between their legs.
Uther stomped over to his throne and sat down. Breathing heavily. Blood still boiling from anger.
"Sir?"
Looking over to see who dared speak to him, he sees his loyal servant Johnathan.
"What is it?"
Johnathan bowed his head before speaking.
"I know that when one finds their true mate, they can not be separated, but there might be a way to get rid of the prince's mate slowly by the time the ball arrives."
Uthur's black ears perked up at his servant.
"Go on."
"Well Sir, if you were to slowly poison him over the course of five months, it would weaken him and the separation will be not as strong and when he passes on, his majesty would be able to get the prince to marry a princess to help ease the pain of losing his true mate. If you don't mind me saying so Sir, I find the thought of the Prince mating with lower standards sickens me. The kingdom needs a strong queen to rule beside his highness. Not a disgraceful peasant that will ruin all of your hard work."
Uthur listened to his servant speak. Smiling at the loyalty and ideas the man had. He was truly a man of Camelot that knew what needed to be done for the good of the kingdom. Uthur felt pride for choosing him as a servant. The man knew how things worked here. He will be greatly rewarded for this.
"Johnathan, you show great loyalty to the crown. Your idea is one that just might work. You will be greatly rewarded for this. I will lessen your workload so you may implement the poison. What poison will you be using for this?"
Johnathan bowed his head in thanks
"The poison comes from a plant that is only found in Nemith's lands. It is called Adenium. I must dry it out, grind it into a powder, add it to water and put it into a jar. If I add a drop of it into his food every two weeks, he won't notice right away. When ingested, he will start to get headache, then nausea, become weak and then he will go into a coma before dying. It is tasteless, odorless and can not be detected. It gives off symptoms like sweating sickness."
Uthur smiled.
"Very good. This will do wonderfully. I want you to go and receive this plant. I want this done as soon as possible. Knowing my son, he will not let that thing go and I do not want him in my castle. I will give you until the Ball to get it done. If you fail me, I will have you executed. Do you understand?"
"Y-y-yes sir. I'll go right away."
"Good. You may go."
With the dismissal, Jonathan bowed to Uther and left the room. Heading off to get started on the plan. Smiling wickedly.
~Athur~
Arthur stomped up to the doors to the council chambers. Eye hard and angry, Hands clenched into fists.
Approaching the doors, Arthur threw them open and stormed into the room. His eyes locate his father on the throne.
Uther looked up at the sound off the doors opening up, his eyes landing upon Arthur.
"Ah. Arthur. You finally snapped out of your protective state. Would you like to tell me why you think that 'Thing' you were all over is your true mate?"
Arthur stopped a few feet from his father. Growling when he called Merlin a thing with the added bonus of hand gestures.
Hearing his son growl, Uther just laughed.
"Oh come off it. You can stop this little game of yours. It was funny at first, but you need to stop. I have choses to organize a 'Mating Ball'. I am inviting all eligible Princesses all over Albion and further to come and hopefully then you will find your mate and the Pendragon name will stay pure."
Arthur growled again and bared his teeth. Eye glowing slightly red.
"Merlin is not a THING! He is my true mate! I told you before that I do not like women. This is not a joke. He is my mate and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it. You can have your stupid ball, but I WILL NOT be attending it. You need to get your head on straight and think. Merlin is it for me and I don't care if you do or don't like the idea, but you can not separate us, so DEAL WITH IT!"
Arthur was breathing hard. His father has gotten on his last nerve about this stupid marriage thing. Why can't he love someone that is meant for him. Someone that he loves and does not have to pretend to be with.
Uthur growled, stood up and walked over to his son.
"You will do as I say! You will attend that ball and you will choose a princess. If you don't I'll have that boy killed. You need to grow up and get rid of that stupid idea of you liking men. That thing can be your fuck toy, but you WILL marry a princess and you will bare an heir. You have had your fun, it's time to be an adult. Do I make myself clear?"
Arthur glared at his father.
"You have lost your goddamn mind. People used to talk about how kind you were before mother died. After she was gone, you became a hateful man. All you want is power and you are willing to use your own child to do that. You became hateful, mean and heartless. I am an adult. I have found my true mate and you hate it because he's a boy. But if you do anything to him or come near him, I will renounce my claim to the throne. If you still try anything, I will not think twice about killing you."
Without another word, Arthur stormed out of the council chambers. Heading back to Gaius's chambers.
