Donut Friendship - Chapter 3: Spider Mother
Tanjiro was sitting behind the counter and thought about the last couple of days. It's been a week now since he took over the bakery due to his mother's sickness. Every day, after he closed the bakery, he told his mother about his workday and how everything was under control. She knew that the bakery was in good hands and because of that, she was very proud of him.
Tanjiro was sure that his mother would get better in no time. She was a strong woman and his siblings took good care of her. He was looking forward to the day, when the two would work together at the store again.
In the meantime however…
STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE…*
Tanjiro noticed somebody standing outside the bakery, staring at the donuts in the display shelf. The person had her face pressed against the glass… same as her body and her not so small boobs.
Slowly turning his head around, Tanjiro saw a tall white woman pressing her face and body against the glass, with a little bit of drool coming out of her mouth. She had a nice white dress that suited her white hair and skin color.
Tanjiro had no idea how to react, so he smiled and waved at her. Seeing that, the woman jumped back from the glass and wiped the drool from her mouth. She fixed her hair and clothes a bit, and waved back at him with a smile. After that, she stared at the donuts again.
Tanjiro didn't know who that woman was, but she looked kind of familiar. He was also wondering if she was thinking about buying something.
"Hmmm… Who is that woman? Is she a customer? If yes, why doesn't she come in?" he thought
After a few seconds, Tanjiro thought that he has figured it out and went outside to speak to her.
"Good day!" he said as he left the bakery
Seeing him, the woman slowly turned around.
"Ah… Good day." she said in a soft voice
"If you want to buy something, you can come in! We're open!" he said as he pointed at the open door
"T-thank you… but that's not the problem…" she replied
Hearing that caught Tanjiro off guard.
"Hm? I thought you were standing outside because you thought that we were closed… Is that not the case?" he asked
"No… I know you were open. It's just that… I forgot my wallet…" she said with a soft voice and a bit of embarrassment
"Ah… Now I understand." Tanjiro replied
The woman looked at the donuts inside the store again and spoke up.
"When I walked past your bakery, I noticed the donuts inside… and they look so delicious…"
She pressed her body against the glass and drool started pouring out of her mouth again.
"I know, right!? A lot of people tell me how delicious our donuts are!" Tanjiro replied with a big smile
"Ye…" STAAAAAAAAAARE* the woman kept staring at the donuts
"Do you want to come inside and have a free sample?" he asked
"Sample? For free? Really?" the woman asked
"Yeah!"
"I would… love to!" the woman said with a smile on her face and excitement in her voice as she pushed herself from the glass
"Great, follow me!" Tanjiro replied and walked back inside
The woman followed him and once inside, Tanjiro asked a few questions.
"You look pretty familiar, do we know each other?" he asked
"Hmmm… I don't think so…" the woman replied as she scanned Tanjiro with her eyes
"But… Maybe you know my son or daughter… People tell us that we look pretty similar…" she added
Hearing that, Tanjiro looked at her again, and he finally realized it.
"Ah! Is your son Rui Ayaki?" he asked with a smile
"Yes!" she replied
"I knew that you looked familiar! You and Rui look really similar!"
"Are you one of Rui's friends?" the woman asked with a soft smile
"No!" Tanjiro replied with a smile
"…oh." the mother murmured confused
"In fact, I have never spoken to him! But I saw him a few times, and he is friends with my sister! Even thought he doesn't talk much, he seems like a nice kid!" Tanjiro explained to which the mother giggled awkwardly
Tanjiro was a very straight forward guy and a very bad liar… So he always said the truth.
Getting to the counter, Tanjiro pointed at the donuts in the display shelf and offered her to take one.
"These are today's donuts! Please, pick one lady Ayaki!" he said
The woman smiled and pointed her finger at one. Tanjiro took it out from the display shelf and handed it to her. Excitement was written all over her face… and drool started dripping from her mouth once again.
"Thank you!" MUNCH* MUNCH* she said as she ate the donut in just 3 bites
She ate it so fast that crumbs fell on the ground and on her cleavage…
"Ahhhh… That was so delicious… Thank you! I will bring my wallet next time and I will definitely buy some!" she said with a smile
"Thank you! I'm glad you like them! But about the donuts…" said Tanjiro
"Hmm? What about them?" the woman asked confused
"If you want, I can put them on a tab for you!" he said
"Hmm? Tab?" she asked confused
"Yes! I sell them to you now, and you can pay me next time! Or you can tell your son or daughter to give me the money for the donuts when we are at the academy!" Tanjiro explained
"R-Really!? If that's not a problem, then I would like to do that!" the women said with a big smile
"Sure thing! So, which ones do you want?" Tanjiro asked and prepared a bag for the donuts
The women's face was full of excitement as she started picking the donuts that she wanted. After she finished picking, Tanjiro put the donuts in the bag and handed it to her. He also gave her a receipt with the total cost.
"Thank you for your patronage!" he said
"No… thank you for your kindness! I will make sure Rui will give you the money! Thank you again!" she said with a big smile as she took the bag and left the store
Tanjiro waved at her, and after she left, he leaned back.
"Hmmm… What a nice woman… I love friendly people like her!" he thought to himself

The next day at the academy, Tanjiro was approached by Rui.
"Hey… Are you Tanjiro Kamado?" he asked
"Yes!" Tanjiro replied
"Could you please explain to me, why my mother told me to give you money?" Rui asked annoyed
"Of course! Yesterday, she visited our family bakery, but she forgot her wallet! I told her that she can pay me later, and she said that she will tell you to give me the money." Tanjiro explained with a smile
"No. That's not what I meant." Rui replied, to which Tanjiro raised an eyebrow
"Why should I be the one to pay? I haven't bought anything…" Rui added
"Huh…?" Tanjiro mumbled
As Tanjiro thought about what Rui just said, he finally realized it.
"Oh no… I think your mother misunderstood me and thought that you will pay for her… haha" Tanjiro laughed awkwardly, to which Rui just stared at him

"That tits-for-brains…" Rui mumbled
Author's note: Another day, another chapter. It was really hard to find a good way to address Spider Mother, so I went with just woman and lady Ayaki… Next time, a con-artist tries to pick up girls in front of the bakery… Oh, dear…
