Donut Friendship - Chapter 7: Kibutsuji Muzan
It was Friday morning and Tanjiro just finished putting his fresh donuts into the display shelf. He was in a good mood, because his mother was feeling better now and this was his last day working alone. On Monday, she would return, and the two would work together again.
After he finished his preparations, he walked to the door and opened it, officially starting his final day alone at the bakery.
"Alright, let's do this!" he said with a smile and waited for customers

Meanwhile, somewhere else.
An expensive black car was driving through the town. Inside the car were three people. One of them was driving, and the other two were sitting in the back. The driver was Kokushibo, and in the back were his boss Kibutsuji Muzan and his part-time secretary Mukago.
Muzan was an evil politician who was trying to take over Japan and then the whole world. Kokushibo saw knew that Muzan could do it, so he decided to follow him and became his right hand and bodyguard. Other people, like Mukago, just did it for the money…
"Kokushibo… you know that I have ordered you to get information on the Kimetsu Academy, right?" he asked
"Yes. On Monday… you will get my report." Kokushibo replied
"I hope so…" Muzan replied and leaned back, glancing at Mukago who was sitting next to him with her notes
"Mukago…" he said
"Y-Y-YES MASTER MUZAN?" Mukago panicked
"I asked you to keep my weekend free… Did you do that?" he asked and looked at her with a murderous expression
"YES I DID, I CANCELED ALL YOUR APPOINTMENTS BUT… WELL… IGHHH!" she replied to him as she went through her notes
"What." he kept looking at her with a murderous expression
"Well… on Sunday… you have a meeting with the mayor of Kimetsu Town… so…" Mukago mumbled
"WHAT!?" Muzan yelled
"IGH! I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY!" Mukago mumbled as she held her notes in front of her face
"Do you think… that the mayor of the town… is more important than ME?" Muzan asked her with a murderous expression again
"NO! OF COURSE NOT! IGH…" Mukago tried to find the right words and tears formed on the side of her eyes, fearing she would lose her job
But lucky for her, Kokushibo saw that in the car mirror and spoke up.
"That was all part of your plan, right? Good thinking." he said
Both Mukago and Muzan looked at Kokushibo.
"P-Plan…?" Mukago asked confused
"Yes. You knew that the meeting with the mayor is a unique opportunity. And that Master Muzan could use this meeting to manipulate him… thus, taking us one step further to world domination…" Kokushibo explained, to which Mukago and Muzan stared at him
Thinking about it, Muzan looked at Mukago again.
"Is that true…?"
Mukago glanced at the car mirror and saw Kokushibo nodding.
"Y-Yes! It is!" she replied
"Hmmm… Not bad… I could definitely make use of that idiot. Good thinking." Replied Muzan and leaned back again
Mukago did a sigh of relief and smiled at the car mirror. Kokushibo saw her and smiled back. After a couple of minutes, Kokushibo spoke up.
"Can I drop you off here?" he asked Mukago
"Y-Yes! I can walk the rest!" she replied
"Good. You know your mission. Infiltrate the academy and gather information… We pick you up in a few hours." Kokushibo explained
"Got it! Goodbye mister Kokushibo, goodbye Master Muzan!" she said and got out of the car

"You have grown soft…" Muzan said
"Me? How?" Kokushibo asked and looked at the car mirror
"I know that you stood up for that girl a few moments ago." Muzan explained
"Yes. Even though she makes mistakes sometimes… I don't think we should get rid of her…" Kokushibo explained
"Whatever. Just do your job." Muzan replied and leaned back again

"It's almost noon. Shall we get something to eat, master Muzan?" Kokushibo asked as he checked the time
"Yeah… take me somewhere good…" he replied
"What are you in the mood for?" Kokushibo asked
"Don't care… Just take me somewhere where I haven't been before…" Muzan replied
Hearing that, Kokushibo thought for a little bit.
"Hmmm… he said anything is fine… and that he wants to go somewhere he hasn't been before…there is THAT place…"
Glancing at his boss, Kokushibo noticed that he wasn't in a particular bad mood now, so he decided to go with his plan.
"Alright. I know a place." he replied and started driving
After a few minutes of driving, Kokushibo parked the car and spoke to Muzan.
"We're here…"
Muzan looked around and raised an eyebrow.
"I can't see any restaurant… only a bakery…" he said
"That's where we're going." Kokushibo explained
Muzan looked at him with a murderous expression.
"A bakery? You think I will eat bread for lunch?"
"Not bread. Donuts." Kokushibo replied
"…" Muzan just looked at him and his eye twitched
"Explain yourself… or this will be your last day working for me…" Muzan said in a plain voice
"Of course. You said that you wanted to eat somewhere that you haven't eaten before and that you don't care what you eat… I was at this bakery a few days ago and I ate the most delicious food in my life… I'm sure you will love it too…" Kokuhibo calmly explained
Muzan glanced at the bakery again, and a devilish smile formed on his face.
"Alright… Let's make this interesting… I am going to eat here… BUT! If this isn't the best food I have eaten in my life… then you will get fired on the spot. But if for some miracle… I happen to enjoy the food here, then I will give you a raise. What do you say?" Muzan asked
Kokushibo thought about it and started to be nervous. He knew that the donuts here would win this bet… but what if they were sold out?
He glanced at Muzan again and spoke up.
"I will need to make sure that they are ready for you… if you excuse me for 2 minutes?" Kokushibo asked
"You have 1 minute." Muzan replied and leaned back
Kokushibo nodded and got out of the car, quickly walking into the bakery.

Inside the bakery, Tanjiro was cleaning the display case and noticed Kokushibo walking in.
"Ah! Mister Cook! Welcome!" he said with a smile
"Boy! I need your help!" Kokushibo replied and walked towards the counter
"Hmm? Did something happen?" Tanjiro turned around and faced him
"Yes! I don't have much time to explain. My boss is thinking about eating here, and I would like him to taste your donuts!" Kokushibo explained
"AH! Thanks a lot! It's a great honor having your boss eat here!" Tanjiro replied
"No! Listen! If he is not satisfied, then I'm going to get fired!"
Hearing that, the smile on Tanjiro's face left, and he put on his serious face.
"I… I understand! This is a serious situation!" Tanjiro replied
"Boy… can you assure me that the donuts you're going to serve him are going to be the best food he has ever eaten?" Kokushibo asked
"No!" Tanjiro replied

"Huh…?" Kokushibo mumbled as he heard that
"I don't know where or what he has eaten before, so I can't promise you that this will be the best food he has ever eaten! But I can promise you, that these are going to be the best donuts he has ever eaten in his life!" Tanjiro explained
Kokushibo stared at him for a few seconds.
"Boy…I trust you… I will be right back." he said and left the store, to which Tanjiro nodded
After seeing him leave, Tanjiro carefully choose some donuts, making sure he only picked the best ones. Outside, Kokushibo walked over to the car and opened the door for Muzan. Muzan looked at him and spoke up.
"You're serious about this? Hahaha… this should be amusing." he said as he got out
Once he got out, the two walked to the bakery. Inside, Muzan looked around. It looked like an ordinary bakery, so Muzan already started thinking about how to replace Kokushibo.
"Welcome!" said Tanjiro
Muzan saw him and with a smile, walked over to the counter.
"Boooy… I was told that you make the best donuts in town…" Muzan said with a devilish smile
"Yes! That's true!" Tanjiro replied
"Really now…You know what happens if I'm not satisfied?" he asked as he turned around and looked at Kokushibo, who just nodded
"Alright then. Eh?" Muzan said as he turned around and saw a plate with donuts already on the counter
"These are the best donuts I have ever made!" Tanjiro said with a face of determination
Muzan carefully inspected them. And as always, they looked like ordinary donuts. Muzan picked one and slowly put it to his mouth.
"Here we go… the best donuts in town… MUNCH* HMMM?!" Muzan murmured as he took his first bite
"AH!" both Tanjiro and Kokushibo said
"M-Master Muzan! What's wrong!?" Kokushibo panicked
Muzan just slowly faced and spoke up.
"This… this…"
Tanjiro and Kokushibo were eagerly waiting for his response.
"This… is the best… MUNCH* MUNCH*"
"Yeah!" Tanjiro yelled with a smile and Kokushibo sighed of relief
"For a second, I was worried that I might lose my job…" he thought to himself

After eating a few donuts, Muzan was satisfied and was about to leave.
"Pay him and give him a big tip…" he said as he was leaving the bakery
Kokushibo faced Tanjiro and spoke up.
"Here is money for the donuts… and something for you."
"Thank you, mister Cook!" Tanjiro replied as he took the money
"He still thinks that I am a cook…" Kokushibo murmured to himself
"Anyway, thank you, boy. Thanks to you, I am getting a pay raise."
"That's great! Please, come visit us again someday!" Tanjiro replied
"Will do. Later." Kokushibo said and left the bakery too
…
Seeing the two leave, Tanjiro went behind the counter again and thought about the next week.
"Mother… I got us a lot of new costumers! I can't wait for you to meet them all!" he thought to himself with a smile
…
"Ok… you get a pay raise… but I still expect your report on Monday…" Muzan said
"Yes. Thank you." Kokushibo replied
"Once I take over the world… I make sure that this bakery will not go out of business…" Muzan said
"I agree…" Kokushibo replied
"Anyway, take me home." Muzan demanded and leaned back
"Sure." he replied and started the car
"Hmmm… I have a feeling we forgot about something… Must be my imagination…" Kokushibo thought as he drove the car

"They forgot to pick me up…" Mukago murmured to herself as she waited on a bench
