Donut Friendship – Chapter 8: The Shabana siblings
Tanjiro made it! A few days back, his mother became sick and she wanted to close the family bakery for the time being. Tanjiro protested and offered her to take care of the bakery all by himself. His mother was worried at first, but in the end, she put her trust in Tanjiro and allowed him to take care of the bakery. The first couple of days were hard, but Tanjiro was a hardworking boy and managed to get the hang of it. All by himself, he kept the family bakery running while his mother was sick. And not only that, but he also managed to attract tons of new costumers, all thanks to his unique donuts.
Now, his mother managed to get better and joined him again in the bakery. She was happy that she could rely on Tanjiro and also a bit surprised by the amount of new customers he managed to find. The two were working together once again and the bakery became known throughout the whole town.

Meanwhile, at the Kimetsu Academy…
MUNCH* MUNCH*
A girl was eating donuts while sitting on a bench. That girl was Ume Shabana. She and her brother were both infamous delinquents.
While eating, she noticed a pair of eyes staring at her.
MUNCH* MUNCH* "Mmm? Wht ish it?" MUNCH* she asked with a full mouth
"Eh… What… are you doing?" asked the guy
The guy next to her was Gyutaro Shabana, her older brother. Same as her he was a delinquent, but unlike her, he wasn't nearly as popular as his sister.
"Hmm? Eating of course!" MUNCH* MUNCH*
Gyutaro just stared at her with a confused look.
"You have been eating a lot lately…" he said, to which Ume glanced at him
"Careful so you don't get fat…" he added with a mocking smile
"SHUT UP! I WON'T!" MUNCH* MUNCH* she replied and continued eating the donuts
Confused to why she ate so much, Gyutaro looked at her bag.
"What are you even eating?"
"Donuts!" she replied and continued eating
"W-Why…? I know that you like sweet things, but…" as he was asking, Ume cut him off
"Because they are the best food ever! I have never eaten anything like this before!" she said
Hearing that, Gyutaro made another mocking smile.
"Best food ever? Haha! Donuts?!" he asked mockingly
Ume ignored him and continued eating her donuts. Annoyed by this, Gyutaro took one from her bag.
"Hey!"
"This is the best food ever? These plain donuts?" he asked as he looked at the donut in his hand
"Yeah! They look plain… but they are really good!" MUNCH* she said as she took a bite out of it while he held it in his hand
"AH! Careful! Don't bite me!" Gyutaro said as he pulled his hand back
Ume smiled mockingly at him and continued eating her donuts, while Gyutaro put the donut down.
"Eh… where did you even get them?" he asked
"IGH!" Ume mumbled as she was caught off guard
Hearing that reaction, Gyutaro looked at her.
"N-NOT TELLING!" she replied and looked away
Now Gyutaro was curious.
"Why… are you not telling me? Am I not your sweet brother?" he asked
"Yes! But you don't need to know the details! I bought them from a person in a bakery… Anyway, how was your day?" Ume replied and tried to change the topic
Gyutaro noticed that and became very suspicious.
"Ume… don't tell me… that person… was a guy…"
"Ehm… you know… he was a nice guy…" Ume tried to find the right words while playing with her hair
Seeing her react like that, Gyutaro's eye twitched.
…
"Alright! Who am I killing?" he asked with a big smile as he took out a wrench from his bag (which he uses for his bike, and sometimes for guys who interact with his sister…)
Nobody is going to speak or touch his cute little sister without his permission.
"No! Brother, wait! It's no big deal! Trust me!" Ume protested
"Eh…?" Gyutaro glanced at her and demanded an explanation
Ume now needed to choose her words carefully.
"Aw crap! I don't want him to know that I became friends with that dork Tanjiro Kamado just for a discount…" she thought to herself
Gyutaro was still waiting for an answer, so Ume spoke up.
"Well… you know that guy… Tanjiro Kamado, right? Well… his family owns a bakery." Ume explained
"Huh?! That sucker?! Hahaha!" he laughed as he heard that
"Ahh… now it makes sense! You went into his bakery and stole them! Damn, you bad girl!" he added
"No, I didn't do that…" she replied
"Hahaha…huh…?" he stopped laughing as he heard that
"That guy… he made me an offer…" Ume added and looked away
"Offer…? What… kind of offer?" Gyutaro asked concerned
She didn't want her brother to know that he asked her to become friends with him, so she tried to find the right words.
"Well… he was pretty direct with his offer… and nobody has ever asked me like the way he did so… well… he offered me a discount, but he wanted something in return…" she mumbled and blushed a little bit
She tried her hardest not to tell her brother about her becoming friends with Tanjiro, but Gyutaro thought she meant something different…
He stared at her and was speechless.
"Huh… he was direct? Offer? Discount for… doing something?" he thought about those words
While thinking about it, he became more and more worried with each second.
"U-U-Ume… hahaha… you… you… of course, you said no to his offer… r-r-right…?" he asked while shaking
"…the discount was too tempting…" she mumbled while blushing and playing with her hair

…
As Tanjiro was working in the bakery, he heard his mother call him.
"Tanjiro! Could you please help me here?"
"Coming!" he replied and went to his mother
The bakery was closing in a few minutes and his mother needed help cleaning up. As the two were about to lock the door, the door shot open.
"WHERE. IS. HE." Gyutaro demanded an answer as he kicked the door open and walked in

"Welcome! What can I get you?" the mother asked with a big smile, as she didn't understand the seriousness of the situation
"WHERE. IS. HE." Gyutaro asked again with a murderous expression
Seeing him, Tanjiro jumped back and pointed a finger at him.
"Huh!? It's you! You're one of the Shabana siblings!"
Hearing that, the mother looked at Tanjiro and smiled.
"Ah, is he your friend? That's nice! Can you please take his order? I go clean the backroom in the meantime."
"Sure thing!" Tanjiro replied with a smile, to which his mother nodded and went to the backroom
Meanwhile, Ume entered the bakery too, completely exhausted.
"Ufff... ufff… brother… wait… ufff…" she mumbled as she tried to catch her breath
Seeing her, Tanjiro smiled and waved at her.
"Ah, hello! Did you come for another round?" he asked her, talking about another round of donuts, of course
"ANOTHER. ROUND." Gyutaro mumbled as he heard that, with his murderous expression focused on Tanjiro
As Ume finally managed to catch her breath, she replied.
"Ufff… N-No… I am here because of my brother." she replied as she pointed at him
"Ah, hello! Do you also want some donuts?" Tanjiro asked as he looked at Gyutaro
Gyutaro in the meantime slowly walked over to Tanjiro.
"YOU. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY… FOR YOURSELF…" he asked, with his eye twitching
"Hm? I don't know what you mean?" Tanjiro replied confused
"DID. YOU. TOUCH. MY. SISTER." Gyutaro asked
"Touched her…?" Tanjiro replied and thought about it
"Well… I think our hands touched a few times when she gave me money for the donuts…" he thought
"Yeah! A few times now! Why do you ask?" Tanjiro replied with a smile
Hearing that, it took all of Gyutaro's mental strength not to execute Tanjiro on the spot.
"Brother! It's nothing serious, please forget about this!" said Ume from the back
"NOTHING. SERIOUS?" Gyutaro mumbled as he heard her
Tanjiro still didn't understand the situation, but he thought that it had something to do with his offer and Ume…
"Are you perhaps talking about the offer I made your sister?" Tanjiro asked, to which Gyutaro looked at him
"Ah! Now I understand! I offered your sister a discount…"
"DON'T TELL HIM!" Ume yelled
"Hm? You don't want to tell him about us?" Tanjiro asked
"No! Please don't tell him!" Ume panicked
"But… he is your brother! I think he should know!"
"Ahh…" Ume murmured and looked at Gyutaro
She glanced at Tanjiro and made up her mind.
"Brother… if somebody is going to tell you… then it's going to be me!" said
"SISTER… I KNOW ENOUGH…" he replied as he grinded his teeth
That surprised Ume.
"Huh! You… know about… us?" Ume asked surprised
"YES. YOU TWO. ARE…" as he was speaking, he was cut off
"Friends!" Tanjiro said with a big smile, to which Ume hid her face and blushed

…
"Eh…?" Gyutaro mumbled as his mind exploded
…
After having cleared this misunderstanding, Ume yelled at her brother.
"HUH? You idiot! You seriously thought that me and him became a c-c-couple?! And that I did… THAT WITH HIM?!" she yelled as she pointed at Tanjiro
"Hey! I don't know what you mean, and I am not offended, but I think that what you just said was not nice!" he replied, to which Ume rolled her eyes
Gyutaro was still trying to process the whole situation. He misunderstood the situation and thought that Tanjiro made a woman out of his cute little sister…
"Anyway! How about some donuts!" Tanjiro asked
"YAY!" Ume jumped in the air with a big smile as she heard that
"Huh…? I am not eating that crap…" Gyutaro replied as he was about to leave
"Really? They are good thought… how about a free sample?" Tanjiro asked as he pointed at the donuts on the counter, which caught Gyutaro's attention
He turned around, walked over to Tanjiro and took a donut.
"Today, I went thought hell because of you… this better be worth it" MUNCH* "UGH!?"
"So?" Tanjiro asked with a sly smile
"This… is the best food ever…" Gyutaro mumbled as he ate the donut
"These bad boys never disappoint me." Tanjiro said with a smile as he looked at the donuts on his counter
