Donut Friendship – Chapter 13: Ume's Problem
One evening, Ume was sitting on her couch at home, once again eating donuts that she bought at Tanjiro's bakery. Since the day she discovered them, she ate a lot of them. She visited the bakery almost daily, buying some donuts every single time and enjoying every single one of them.
As she was eating, her older brother Gyutaro walked into the room.
"Ughhh… Ume?" said Gyutaro as he saw her eat donuts again
"Hm? What is it?" she asked as she glanced at him
"Don't you think… that you eat a bit too many donuts?" he asked
"Heh?! What are you saying?!" Ume snapped back at him
"I know that you like sweets, but I can see that you eat a lot of them." he replied
"Shut up! I can do whatever I want!" MUNCH* she replied and ate another one
"Alright… but don't come to me crying when you become a fatty." Gyutaro replied with a smile and walked away
Ume didn't pay him any attention and continued eating.

Later on that evening, she took a shower and prepared for bed. As she put on her pajamas, she noticed something odd. Her belly was a little bit bigger than the last time she looked at it.
"Huh." she mumbled with her mouth half open and with a face of disbelief
Looking at her belly, she couldn't believe her eyes.
"Hahaha! That's just my imagination! Hahaha" she laughed and walked over to her scale
She stepped on it and looked at the displayed number.
"…"
"…"
"…huh?" she mumbled in disbelief as she saw the number
She quickly stepped down from it and stepped on it again, checking the number one more time.
"…"
"…"
"No… I am… a fatty…" she mumbled as tears formed on the side of her eyes

The next day at the bakery, Tanjiro was putting the donuts in the display case once again. Last week, his mother told him to take a week off to relax and not to overwork himself. He was against it at first, but decided to agree with her once he found out that Nezuko would take his place. Now, he was back at the bakery, working hard yet again.
As he was putting the donuts in the case, the door behind him shot open. He quickly turned around and saw Ume standing behind him, with tears in her eyes.
"YOU!" yelled Ume and pointed at Tanjiro
"AH! W-W-What is it?! What happened?!" Tanjiro asked concerned
"THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! YOU DID THIS TO ME!" Ume yelled at him
"…huh?" Tanjiro asked confused
"BECAUSE OF YOU…" Ume yelled again and tried to fight her tears
"…because of me?" Tanjiro asked confused again
"BECAUSE OF YOU… I… I…" Ume continued
"I AM A FATTY! WAAAAAA! WAAAAA!" yelled Ume as she broke down in tears, crying in the doorway
"…"
"…"
"…huh?" Tanjiro mumbled confused as he watched her cry
"WAAAAAA! WAAAAAA!" she continued crying
As she was crying, Nezuko walked over to her brother from the back.
"What… happened?" she asked confused
"I don't know…" Tanjiro replied
"WAAAA! WAAAAAA!"

After a few minutes, Ume calmed down and sat down, as Nezuko comforted her.
"IGHMMM… THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!" she pointed at Tanjiro
"What did I do?!" he asked
"There… there… everything is going to be fine." said Nezuko as she handed Ume a tissue to wipe her tears
"T-Thank you…" mumbled Ume as she wiped her face and tears
"Now… why don't you just tell us what happened?" Nezuko asked with a smile
Ume calmed down and glanced at Tanjiro.
"It's his fault." said Ume
"What is his fault?" Nezuko asked
"He sold me the donuts… and gave me a discount." Ume explained, to which Nezuko glanced at her brother
"Yes. I did that. W-Where is the problem?" Tanjiro asked confused
"Because of you and your stupid donuts… I… I… became a fatty!" Ume explained
"…"
"…"
Both Nezuko and Tanjiro looked at each other.
"Hahaha…HAHAHA…HAHAHAHAHHAHA!" both of them started laughing
"IGH! Don't laugh! This is not funny!" said Ume
"Hahaha! I am sorry! Hahaha! But it is funny!" Nezuko replied with a smile as she laughed
"It is funny, because you're not a fatty! And even if you were one, there is nothing wrong with that! Hahaha!" added Tanjiro as he laughed too
"Huh? What…" Ume replied in disbelief
As the two finally stopped laughing, Nezuko spoke up.
"I am sorry, but this is pretty funny!"
"But… but…" Ume mumbled
"Well… it's true that you have been buying a lot of donuts in the past couple of days, and if you continue like that, it's possible that you can gain some weight." Tanjiro replied with a smile
"Y-Yes!" Ume replied concerned
"But I know that if you do some exercise too, you won't gain weight so easily!" Tanjiro added with a smile
"E-Exercise?" Ume asked
"Yes! Or you can stop eating that many donuts!" Nezuko added
"Eh…? Well, I don't want to stop…" Ume replied
"So exercise it is then! Do you play any sports? There are a lot of different sport clubs at the academy! You could join one!" said Nezuko
"Hmmm… I don't know…" replied Ume
"Just don't cry! Everything is going to be fine!" Nezuko added with a smile
Hearing the two, Ume nodded and smiled too.
"A-Anyway! I am already here so… would you mind selling me a donut?" she asked
Both Nezuko and Tanjiro just looked at each other.
"W-What is it?! I am just buying one today!" Ume replied

Later that day, back at home.
"IGHGHGHGHHGH!"
"…"
"IGHGHGHHGHGHGHHG!"
"…"
"COME ON! ONE MORE! I CAN DO THIS! IGHGHGHGHHG!"
"…"
"AAAAND 3! UGH!" mumbled Ume as she lied on the floor, breathing fast
"What… are you doing?" asked Gyutaro
"HUFF* HUFF* I was HUFF* doing push-ups…" she replied
"You did… 3?" he asked with a teasing smile
"HUFF* HUFF*"
"…"
"Screw this. I'll be a fatty." she said defeated, lying on the ground
