"Who's face did you steal this time?" Remy asked as Hermione made her way out of the fireplace and into his living room. Instead of a brown haired hazel eyed woman in her early twenties Hermione was disguised as a tall Asian woman in her late fifties. Even though she had known Remy for years she never felt comfortable telling him or anyone else who she was. Her normal face was to recognizable and for someone who wanted to stay off the radar that wasn't a good thing. It did make her an expert at making poly juice potions though.
"A nice old lady I met on my travels to Russia." Hermione told him.
"What were you doing in Russia?" Remy was always curious about who his friend really was. He knew she was a woman but little else. He never pushed because he assumed that she was on the run from someone or something and he liked her well enough to not have to turn her in if she turned out to be a fugitive. The less he knew the better.
"I was collecting some of this." Hermione handed the man a leather pouch.
Remy gasped when he opened the pouch and saw the grey and white fur inside. "You actually found it."
"It took me four months and a lot of walking but I did." Hermione said.
"What was it like?" Remy asked.
"Tall, furry and mean." Hermione told him.
"That's all you have to say?! You found a yeti and you only describe it with three words." After finding out that the Yeti actually existed Remy wanted more of a description than that. "What was it actually like? Did you get pictures?"
Hermione nodded and pulled out some pictures from her bag. "I got not only magical pictures but muggle ones as well."
"Let me see." Remy excitably took the pictures from her.
"I had to use a silencing charm to get close enough to take them. Apparently yeti have enhanced hearing and don't like visitors in their territory." Hermione had learned that lesson the hard way when she got caught by one and was chased over a mile before it gave up. She had been so startled she hadn't even thought about using magic to help her get out of the situation.
"How did you get the fur?" Remy asked.
"Yeti live in caves. I tracked it to its cave and when it left I went in and was lucky enough to find it. With the amount I found I think it had been it's home for a long time." Hermione explained.
"So the big question is how much is this going to cost me?" Remy knew it wasn't going to come cheap.
"Double the usual rate for that pouch and copies of the pictures." Hermione told him.
Remy groaned. "It hurts my feelings that you never give me a friends and family discount."
"That is a discount. If it were anyone else it would be four times my usually rate and an extra hundred for copies of the pictures." Hermione said.
"It still hurts handing over so many galleons." Remy knew he was lucky that she even considered bringing him some of her finds. He was an old man and his days of traipsing through the wilderness and facing danger was long behind him. His friend never told him how she found him but he was just happy she did.
"Don't pretend that you aren't going to sell at least the pictures. You will easily make your money back and then some." Remy was a potions expert and made a living off of selling the different ones he made but Hermione knew that he also sold ingredients. She had no doubt that he sold the random things she found in her travels for a hefty profit.
Remy gave her an innocent smile."I have to make a living somehow."
"Yeah, yeah now pay up old man I have things to do." Hermione needed to make a couple stops before she continued on her way again.
"I guess it is no use asking if you wanted to stay for tea?" She never did but Remy always asked. Although he would never ask her about her past he was always interested in hearing about her travels.
"I can't today but maybe next time." Hermione told the lie that she always told. She liked Remy but wasn't one to sit around and chat with anyone.
Remy stood from his chair and made his way to his safe. Counting out the coins he put them in a pouch and handed them to her. "This should do it."
"It's a pleasure doing business with you." Hermione tucked the pouch in her bag.
"You aren't going to count it?" Remy asked.
"You aren't stupid enough to cheat me because if you did I would stop bringing you things and we both know you don't want that." Hermione would never tell him to his face but she did trust Remy. Not enough to tell him who she was but enough to not worry about him cheating her.
"That is true." Remy agreed.
"Until next time." Hermione said as she made her way back to the flue.
"Until next time." Remy replied.
Hermione took a breath before she suddenly found herself in a familiar common room. Ignoring the many curious looks she made her way to the front desk of the inn. "Do you have any mail for Betty Sue?"
"Ah your back." The inn keeper a woman name Brenda greeted her. Opening a locked boxed she pulled out a letter and handed it to Hermione. "This came for you about a month ago."
"Thank you." Hermione pulled out a galleon and handed it to the woman. "Is there a room available?"
"I don't know why you ask that every time when you know full well that we keep one especially for you." Brenda told her.
"I don't want to presume." Hermione said as she made her way to the stairs.
"Let me know if you need anything." Brenda called after her.
"I will." Hermione called back as she made her way to her room. After entering and closing the door she warded it and cast a silencing spell. She didn't need anyone entering or hearing what she was doing. Setting her bag on the bed and removing her cloak she sat in the chair next to the table and opened her note.
Betty Sue,
I haven't heard from you for a while so I figure you are still on your hunt. I hope you are able to find what you are looking for as I am excited to see any pictures you were able to take. My father and I are doing well and he wants me to tell you he misses you. He asked about when you are going to visit again. Obviously I miss you as well and would also enjoy a visit. No pressure though. Things have been pretty quiet around here. I was recently promoted to a case manager for magical creatures. One of the aspects of my new job will to be an advocate in the courts for different magical creatures. I am very excited about this because as you know I wasn't expecting to be promoted for a couple years at least. There is no other important news to tell you. I mostly was writing to let you know that we are thinking of you and hope you are well. Please send a letter when you return to let us know.
Luna
Hermione smiled as she finished reading the letter. Out of all the people she had met through out her life her only true friend had ever been Luna. She had never expected anything from Hermione and when Hermione needed to get away it was Luna's house she went to where she stayed until she came up with a plan on what she wanted to do with her life. In the months she stayed there she had learned of the various magical creatures that had been documented but never actually been found. The idea of traveling the world on her own to explore and experience all that she wanted was very appealing at the time and years later Hermione still enjoyed the thrill of finding a rare magical creature.
She knew she owed a lot to Luna and her father but they never asked for anything other than the odd picture or two. That didn't mean Hermione didn't bring them other things. She may sell items to Remy but that was just to make enough money to fund her adventures because she couldn't access her vault without alerting people. She kept the really rare ingredients for Luna and her father. Rereading the letter one more time Hermione decided that maybe delivering the yeti fur and pictures would be better to do in person. It would be nice to see her friend again.
