Donut Friendship – Chapter 14: Working for Muzan
"Thank you for your application. Once we interviewed all the other applicants, we'll call you back." said Kokushibo
The man in front of him nodded and left the room.
"Ugh… he won't do…" said Kokushibo as he checked his notes
"So far, none of them were any good…" added Kaigaku, as he sat next to him and was also checking his notes
The two were interviewing applicants for their boss, Muzan. Muzan was an evil politician, trying to conquer Japan and then the whole world. To achieve this, he needed reliable employees. Because of that, he was an unforgiving boss, firing anyone who failed him on the spot. And because his requests were often very unreasonable, he needed new employees on a daily basis…
"I am hungry…" said Kaigaku
"Me too." replied Kokushibo
"How many are left?" Kaigaku asked, to which Kokushibo pulled out a piece of paper
"Hmmm… oh, we have only one left for today." Kokushibo replied
"Great! Let's finish this and get something to eat!" Kaigaku replied, motivated as he heard that
"Agreed." replied Kokushibo
"Alright, next one!" yelled Kaigaku and waited for the next applicant to enter
The door slowly opened and a small person in a student uniform walked in. He stood in front of the two and looked at them with a plain expression.
"So you are… Rui Ayaki?" Kokushibo asked as he looked at his notes
"Yes." Rui replied
Both Kaigaku and Kokushibo glanced at each other.
"Ehm... why did you come... wearing a school uniform?" Kaigaku asked
"I just went here right after school." Rui replied, to which Kaigaku just stared at him
"This will be quick…" Kaigaku thought to himself and chuckled
"So, why are you here today?" Kokushibo asked
"Because I am looking for a part-time job, and you're hiring." Rui replied with a plain expression
"…"
"…"
And… why do you think that we should hire you?" Kokushibo asked
"Because I am looking for a part-time job, and you're hiring. I just told you." Rui replied
Both Kokushibo and Kaigaku glanced at each other.
"Well… yes. Good point." Kokushibo replied
"This guy…" Kaigaku murmured to himself in disbelief
"So, when can I start?" Rui asked
"…"
"…"
"Heh?! What are you talking about?! We didn't even…-"
"Shut up." Kokushibo cut off Kaigaku and looked at Rui
Both were now staring at each other.
"Boy… you seem pretty determined and reliable." Kokushibo said
"Yes." Rui replied
"I like that." said Kokushibo
"Huh?" Kaigaku mumbled, confused as he heard that
"If we were to hire you, could you start today?" Kokushibo asked
"Yes." Rui replied
"HUH?! HUH?! What?!" Kaigaku mumbled confused
"We just hire him?! We don't know anything about him, and he seems pretty weird! Mister Muzan would fire us if we…-" Kaigaku protested, but quickly became silent when he saw Kokushibo's murderous expression
"Do you have a problem with my decision?" Kokushibo asked
"…n-no." Kaigaku mumbled with fear
"Good. Anyway, we need to discuss our plans for today. Meet us outside in two hours, got it?" Kokushibo asked as he looked at Rui
"Alright. I will be here in two hours." he said and left the room
Once the two were alone, Kaigaku faced Kokushibo.
"W-What are you doing?! If we hire him, then mister Muzan will fire us! Are you seriously considering hiring him?!" Kaigaku panicked
"Shut up. Let's get something to eat, and I will explain everything." replied Kokushibo and stood up
"Ahhh… I am going to get fired, aren't I?" Kaigaku murmured to himself as he followed Kokushibo

"Huh?! It's all part of your plan?" Kaigaku asked
"Yes. Let me explain." Kokushibo replied
Both of them were sitting at a table in the company cafeteria.
"Have you forgotten about our mission for this month?" Kokushibo asked
"Ehm… you mean the one with the bakery, right?" Kaigaku asked
"Yes, the Kamado Bakery. Master Muzan wants to know the secret recipe for the Kamado Donuts…" Kokushibo replied
"And if we fail that mission, then we will both get fired…" Kokushibo added
"Yes, but… what does that Rui guy have to do with this?" Kaigaku asked
"It's simple. This is going to be a test for him." Kokushibo replied
"Huh…? Test? What do you mean?" Kaigaku asked
"Today, we will go to the bakery with that boy, and he is going to help us find the secret recipe…" Kokushibo explained
"And if we manage to acquire it, then we will have accomplished our mission, pleasing master Muzan." Kokushibo added
"Oh! I get it now! And if something goes horribly wrong, then we can put the blame on him! Giving us another chance to try another time! That's a great idea!" Kaigaku replied with an evil smile
"Yes… this will be a good test for him." Kokushibo replied

Sometime later, outside Muzan's headquarters, Rui waited on the two.
"There you are." said Kokushibo as he walked out the door alongside Kaigaku
"Hey." said Kaigaku
"Hello." replied Rui
"Congratulations. You alone managed to get to the next round." said Kokushibo
"Am I still not hired?" Rui asked
"Not yet. There is going to be a final test. If you manage to pass it, then we will hire you." Kokushibo replied, to which Rui just stared at him
"What test?" Rui asked
"Follow me, I will explain everything." said Kokushibo and started walking, with Kaigaku and Rui following him

"We are here…" said Kokushibo
"This is..." said Rui
"The Kamado bakery." said Kokushibo, to which Rui just stared at him
"They sell really good donuts here!" Kaigaku added
"I know. I bought them a few times now…" Rui replied
"Oh, you did? Good, then you will understand." said Kokushibo
"Our boss wants to know the secret recipe for the donuts." said Kaigaku
"So, this is going to be your test. You will help us find the secret recipe, and if we succeed today, then we will officially hire you." said Kokushibo, to which Rui just nodded
"Alright, so here is the plan!" said Kaigaku
"We are going to go inside one by one, pretending to be customers. Then, one of us is going to cause a distraction and the other two are going to slip into the back room, where they find the secret recipe!" Kaigaku added
"Or we can try something different. We can start a chat with someone inside the bakery and try to make them tell us the secret recipe by accident." said Kokushibo
"Another option is to wait till they close and then break in during the night…" said Kaigaku
"We can also try to bribe one of the employees for the recipe… Anyway, how do you want to do it?" asked Kokushibo
"…"
"…"
"…huh?" mumbled Kaigaku as he frantically looked around himself
"Where… is he?" asked Kokushibo as he looked around himself too, trying to find Rui
INSIDE THE BAKERY.
"Hey Nezuko…" said Rui
"Ah! Hello Rui!" replied Nezuko, who was working that day
"Nezuko, I need to know the secret recipe for your donuts." said Rui
"…huh?" mumbled Nezuko as she stared at him

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!" screamed Kaigaku as he kicked the door open
"NO!" yelled Kokushibo as he entered the bakery too
"Oh my!" said Nezuko as she saw the two enter
"What did you tell her?!" yelled Kokushibo
"I just asked her about the recipe for the donuts." replied Rui
"What!? Why!?" Kaigaku panicked
"Because you said that if I find it out, then you would hire me." Rui replied
"Yes! But…" Kokushibo tried to find the right words
Seeing this scene in front of her, Nezuko laughed.
"Hahaha! Rui, is that true?" she asked with a smile
"Yes." he replied
"Well, if that is the case, then I will tell you!" Nezuko replied

…
"Huh?" both Kaigaku and Kokushibo mumbled confused at the same time
"If this helps Rui, then I gladly tell you the secret recipe!" said Nezuko
"Thank you." Rui replied
"Alright, are you ready?" Nezuko asked
"Wait! Wait! Wait! You will just tell us the secret recipe?" Kaigaku asked confused
"Yes, but only if you promise me not to tell anyone else!" Nezuko replied
Both Kaigaku and Kokushibo glanced at each other, and both of them nodded.
"Alright… so the secret recipe… or better yet! The secret ingredient is-!"

"Love…" Kokushibo mumbled to himself annoyed
"EvErYtHiNg TaStEs BeTtEr WiTh LoVe…!" Kaigaku mumbled annoyed too
Both of them were sitting on a bench outside the bakery.
"Well… we were fools for thinking that she would tell us in the first place…" said Kokushibo
"So, am I hired?" Rui asked
The two glanced at him, and Kokushibo took a deep breath.
"Yeah, why not… good job today." he said and got up
"Do the paperwork with him. I need a break." he added and pointed at Kaigaku
Kokushibo walked away, leaving Kaigaku and Rui to themselves. They stared at each for a few seconds, until one of them spoke up.
"…"
"…"
"Nice working with you today." said Rui
"Oh shut up…" murmured Kaigaku defeated
