Beckett POV:

I sat there, in the kitchen, thinking about my family. The words that Castle has been saying are starting to get to me.

Maybe it would be better if I stopped being a detective?

"Mum, are you ok?" asked Oscar, ripping me from my thoughts.

"Of course I am bud, eat your breakfast."

He was quick to trust so he easily went back to eating his chocolate cereal.

"Don't lie to him, Kate." Castle assumed whilst making eggs for him and me.

"I didn't lie to him" I shot back quickly hoping that this wouldn't start an argument between the two of us in front of the kids.

"You're not alright Kate, you've been constantly staring into the distance for the past week now. Somethings up and I want you to tell me what it is."

"Can we not do this in front of the kids, Rick?" I ask as he places the plate of eggs and toast in front of me. He takes a seat across from me before replying.

"Fine but we are talking about what is going on as soon as possible"

"Fine" I finish the conversation before starting to eat my breakfast and a silence takes over the family.

It was a different kind of feeling as I entered the precinct on this day. As I exited the elevator I couldn't help but want to be home, but there was a job to be done.

"Good morning Kate" Kevin greeted with a smile, Javier sending me a wave.

"Hi guys, any cases?" I ask them.

"Actually there isn't anything at the moment surprising ain't it?" Javier answers.

"Truly" I responded.

I take a seat at my desk and head onto my computer to start the waiting game. That was when I saw something that could be perfect, an ad for a holiday resort.

"This could be a great way for me to get away from the job for a little while and think more about what I should do," I said in my head.

A week later:

As soon as I got home from work that day I told Rick and the kids about the resort to great response so here we were packing up for it. I had booked everything ready for the day to arrive.

The resort was huge, as we arrived the kids' faces shot up with excitement. Even me and Castle were excited.

"I want to go on that!" Jake said, pointing to a water slide.

"We have to go to the hotel room first and get settled in then we can think about going and having fun, okay guys?" Castle said. The kids all nodded but those words definitely made their excitement disappear a little.

The key to the hotel room made a satisfying click noise, revealing that the door is now in fact open. Castle swung open the door showing off the massive hotel room that awaited us all. The room actually consisted of two bedrooms, one with a king sized bed for me and Castle and another bedroom with three singles for the kids. It was more like an apartment.

"How much did this cost, Kate?" Castle asked as he started to wander around the room, the kids had already started to run off around the hotel room.

"Actually not that much, apparently a few people have died in this room so they can't sell it for too much" I respond with a straight face but I quickly start to laugh as I see Castle start to get worried.

"Castle, don't worry, I was only joking" I reassure him between laughs.

"That's not something you should joke about Kate!" Castle said fake annoyed but he even had a bit of a smile on his face.

"Mum, dad, can we go and have fun now?" Ava said as she and the boys came out of their bedroom, catching the attention of me and Castle.

"Of course we can guys, let's go" Castle said, causing the kids to get excited again and they start to head to the hotel room door.

As I start to follow them my phone starts to ring, directing my attention to my pocket. I see that the phone call is from Kevin so I quickly accept the call.

"Hi Kevin, what's up?"

"I know that you are on holiday at the moment so I am sorry about calling you, but there has been a murder and me and Javier could really use your help with some of it."

"Okay, well I can't come back to help you guys out but send me what you can by email and I will have a look at it for you and try to help out the best I can"

"Thank you Kate!" Kevin speaks happily before ending the call.

"You guys head out I will catch up in a little while" I tell them and they reluctantly leave but not before Castle could speak up.

"Come join us as soon as possible" He says before planting a kiss at my temple then leaving the hotel room with the kids.

It was lucky that I brought my laptop with us on holiday. I had been looking through everything that Kevin had sent me, I didn't even realise how much time had passed.

Not until everyone walked through the door at least.

"Kids, go into your room" Castle instructed and the wet kids quickly dashed into their room. I lowered the laptop screen immediately, noticing the mistake that I had made.

Castle started to move his mouth so I felt the need to interrupt him before he could start having a go at me.

"Look, don't bother Castle. I am so sorry, I lost track of time. Kevin sent me a lot of evidence to go through" I apologise.

"I was hoping that you decided to take this holiday so you could get away from work, that you were maybe starting to come around to my way of thinking, but clearly not" Castle argued, actually annoyed unlike earlier.

"That is why I decided we should come here"

"So then why did you just spend all day doing detective work?" Castle started to raise his voice.

"I don't know Castle, I don't know" I answer, tears starting to form inside my eyes.

Richard immediately started to calm down a bit, noticing how distressed I was starting to get, but it was clear that he was still annoyed.

"Look Kate, I know how much you love your job and I have loved helping with cases over the years as well but we have kids now and it's a way too dangerous job. Think about what will happen if something bad happens to us. We may have been lucky in the past when things happen but that luck will run out eventually, it always does" Castle sits down on the bed next to me, wrapping his arms around me.

"I understand and I promise not to do any police work for the rest of the time we are here. Let me just send my findings to Kevin then I will be done"

And that was completely true. I spent the rest of the week that we were at that resort spending time with my husband and my kids and it was an incredible time.

The End of Chapter 7.

Note:

I am very sorry about the amount of time between chapters, I have just been very busy with life but I am back sort of. I can't guarantee when the next chapter will be but hopefully it won't be as long of a wait as for this one. Anyway, until then I hope you enjoy this chapter. Stay safe everyone, bye.
