Hello welcome to my new HP verse book this one covering the years 1-7 in there own series but with a twist- a new friend. Let the adventure begin.
Note the other HP story I wrong is kinda the same way but this one will be where my oc won't be as OP. Also not a modern conflict either. But might later down the line if this series does well enough.
Please note I'm A bastardly American so if I get a few native bits of history wrong don't bash me for but please point it out I'm very interested to learn about the achiest people of the isles. And I will make sure to update any information I get wrong in later rewrites.
With all that talking out of the way let's get into it.
October 31st, 1981
( Northern Scottish Highlands.)
A person in a Plaid and walking stick climbed over the rugged mountain passes of Scotland. The lush green grass making way into dirt from the intense walking the Scottish clans of old had done when they migrated there sheep up here to graze in the Summer.
The man stopped as he looked around to notice he was not alone on the trail two men in more modern Scottish clothing looked at him.
"Are you lost my friend?" The first one asked wearing a thick fleece jacket and a grey beard with a wool cap
"You look as if ya came form 1600's" the second one pointed out. Looking at the plaid.
"Probably someone trying to do historical archeology Eh?" The first one asked to his firend.
"Looks the part, none the less. Come on back to our truck with us and tell us we're ya off to." The second one said.
The three made there way back to the truck on the otherside of the hill the man in the Plade hoped in the back as the other two got in the driver and passenger side.
The first man in the passenger side looked back at the traveler.
"So where ya off to? You don't look like ya have a lot of stuff for a long travel." He said
The man looked out the window and said hesitantly.
"I don't… it took a lot more time than I expected," he said with an Irish Accent.
"Ah someone from across the Isles Eh." The driver said the other guy elbowed him
"Ah quit your pissing Eddie." He looked back at the traveler
"Well it will be faster here than on foot. Tell us where you're going?"
The traveler looked out the window.
"There is said to be a monastery nearby one of the efforts of spreading the church across the highlands I believe there is a convent of people willing to take in traveler's you can drop me off there, I don't want to be any more of a burden to you fellows." He said
The two Scott's looked at each other.
"Bud are you sure? I mean I pretty sure I heard that place burned down a couple years ago." The passager said
"Oh come on Rits! It's either that or the place is haunted, or the local dog making a fuss is a monster. It's just local superstition!" Eddie said
"Ah I'll show you Superstition!" Rits said as he walked Eddie in the shoulder with his cap before replacing it.
"Are you sure there isn't anything else we can't do for you?" Rits asked
The traveler kept looking out the window. "Just there is fine thanks." He said
Fortunately they did far more than that as they passed by the most isolated Pub in the Scottish Highlands. And found a local tent nearby as people were protesting and got a pint for the road. As they reached a hill overlooking the monastery. The traveler got out and turned to wave at the two fellows as they drove off.
The traveler turned around and found himself looking at the Priest of the monistary.
"Why did you bring them here?" They asked
"They gifted me a ride so I didn't get lost." The travler said
"They nearly discovered us." The Priest said
"It would have been fine. Any news about him?" The traveler asked
"No, your Son is learning with his father." The priest said
"I mean about those who fight?" The traveler asked
"They have not attacked our sacred groves thus we will not join the war the more that people think our kind has died off the better." The priest said
"But if we don't bring in new convents the knowledge will die!" The traveler said
The priest raised his hand to quiet the traveler.
"It is not good to speak of such things here. Follow." He said as he walked down towards the monastery.
The traveler followed until they walked past the monastery and into the forest behind it.
"Here it is safe to talk. No muggle ventures into these parts, even those high and mighty in the Wizenganmot are too afraid to venture here, the last one who did was Fleamont Potter. And we would have made him one of our own had he not refused."
The traveler took off there hood to reveal a women with brown eyes and black hair "The war with You know who does not go well." She said
The priest turned away dismissing her words "Say the name Joeanna, fear of the word only increased fear of itself." He said
"But fear of the person increases their power." Joeanna argued.
"Only if you believe them to be worthy of being feared!" The priest bit back."
Joeanna paused frozen in place.
"…i'd like to see my husband." She said shortly.
"In time you will, but first there is of things we must discuss." He said as he grabbed her arm
Joeanna hissed and pulled away looking down to see a black spot growing on her arm. She fell to her knees
"Blackest of magick." The priest said in horror looking at her
She tried to stutter out a response "I..I…I didn't…"
The priest was on her in a second
"No no of course not. You've been unwillingly poisoned. Come. We have little time I will take you to your son." He said
"No to Richard. I wish to see Richard." She said stumbling to her feet the priest turned to her "Your Husband is dead." He said
Joeanna gasped in horror and sadness.
"Im sorry o misleading you but your son has just got over that tragedy now I'm doing all I can to prevent another please do not fight me." The priest said
Joeanna nodded and was lead with the priest deeper.
"Please cover yourself. Expect anyone who touches you in this holy grove to be poisonous to you." The priest said
Joeanna nodded and wrapped the Plade around her tighter.
"How…how did he die?" Joeanna asked
"Accidental fire from a group of Aurora's vs a couple of deatheaters." The priest said
"Where is he?" Joeanna asked
The priest shook his head "the Auroras refused to give us the body I'm sorry." He said
Joeanna nodded as they entered a clearing it gad gotten darker in the sky in the clearing. a group of 4 Druids were playing 3 in white hoods, an a little boy of only 2 ran to her
"Mother!" He cried
The priest put a hand in front of him.
"She has been poisoned…physical contact increases the spread." He said
The boy nodded and looked past "ma…" he said
"It will be ok sweetie." Joeanna said
Suddenly a bright flash of lightning struck the sky. And one of the Druids fell limp. Before leaning back and crying out in a trance.
"The fates above Declare! the new order peace among kind! The hero destined to slay the dark lord is threatened, only with aid of kind can he succeed in his task as those who seek to use him for there gain undermine him only those of the true path can help. And those who are most loyal to him can be the ones he trust." The Druid said as he went limp.
Joeanna was in shock "w-wha…" she pitched forward
"Mother!" The boy said the priest caught her by the Plade. "She is very weak. Quickly open the circle! There is little we can do but this can change history!" The priest said
"What is going on?" The boy asked as the priest dragged his mother into the group of Druids.
"What you heard young boy is a prophecy about you that in time will change the fate of all of magic. Your mother is weak but we will transfer her natural magic talent into you to prepare you for the upcoming crisis. Please get in the circle." The priest said as he laid the boys mother down.
The boy ran to the circle to join them
"What do I do?" The boy asked the Elder.
"Lay down with your head just touching her head and stay completely still." He said
The boy did so as he heard the Druids chant and rain started to pour.
The boy tried to keep his eyes closed but the rain hit harder as several drops land near his eyes and he wipes them away.
The Druids chant louder as another bolt of lightning strikes across the Sky one looking similar to famous Scar moniker that would be laid across a infant boys head ½ an County away.
The boy in the grove opened his eyes and sat up and noticed his clothes were covered in Soot.
He looked behind him to see his mothers corpse was blowing away in the wind of the grove as ash.
"She did not survive the process…" the Priest said sadly
The boy looked at his mothers corpse and back to the Elder Druid "What happens now?" He asked
The Elder Druid smiled "we take care of our own boy."
(9 years Later)
The boy now of 11 sat in the same grove his mother died in now covered in a white hood with 3 Druids standing over him. One holding a bronze Bowl. One holding a head dress of grape vines. And one holding a red hot iron in one hand and a jar in the other.
"We have gathered here today to bring forth a new member to our sacred order." The elder Druid said as he addressed the boy
"Are you ready?" He asked
"Yes My Elder." The boy said from under the hood.
"First the elements. Fire the guiding light. The heat sent forth to bring enlightenment to our ancestors. This will sting." He said as he nods
The Druid holding the two items step forward and lowers the red hot iron
"Please present your non-dominant arm." He said
The boy without hesitation lifted is left from under the white cloak. As the arm was branded just under the elbow. The boy didn't react. The man stepped back
"Next water. The drink of life, without this we die faster than anything else." The Elder said as he nodded
The man holding the bowl of water dumped it over on the boy all at once once again he didn't react. However the Brand on his arm did flare up bright green.
"Next Air. The breath of the world, it has guided many wearily travelers on long roads and is the language the earth speaks to us in. May it guide your travels well." The Elder said
The man with the Iron stepped forward and opened the jar to reveal the collected ashes of the boys mother.
"These ashes of your mother will blow over you granting her protection over you in your future challenges." The elder said
If the boy had any confusion he did not show it as the ashes fell on his wet cloak staining it forever.
Lastly, Earth. The ground we walk. The home of all of us. The place many call home. And let few respect, and even fewer still grow power from it." He said
The final man put the crown of Vines on his head as the boy looked up.
"Do you willingly accept these titles and gifts given to thee by the world to protect them, the knowledge within them, and the sacred groves they were created in?" The elder asked
"Of course My elder."
"Then rise my boy. Rise and take the title of Druid-in-training, arise, Ovate, Master Bard." The Elder said
The boy rose and looked up at his elder
"By the path walked by my mother. Defended by my father. The journey I take will be one most proud of." The boy said
"Ovate Devon, the ceremony is finished. Please speak with me after you've gathered yourself." The Elder said as the other Druids left the grove.
Devon looked down 'what did he mean when he said my future challenges?'
Devon left the grove and had a shower in the convent. Before he visited the Elder in the convent as he knocked on the door that was his chamber ( or the abbots) the Druid elder opened the door
"Ovate Devon, please come in." He said as they crossed the room and sat down the Elder behind the deck.
"Now I know you have questions I can read them off your face. Please first, do you want anything to drink?" The Elder asked
"Some tea would be nice." Devon said
The Elder smiled "I just brewed a Pot of some that helps focus as well as clarity." He said
Ovate Devon nodded "I know I smell it from here." He said
The Elder smiled as he waved his hand off to the left and he levitated the pot to the desk and placed it down with two tea cups and saucers.
The two poured there tea and took a drink.
"Now speak your question's young one." He said
"You alluded to a future journey ahead of me during the ritual ceremony. But I thought Druids don't leave the monastery?" He said
"Ah but Ovate. If no one ever left how do we get news of the other monasteries in Ireland and England? Or our friends in Gaul?" The Elder Druid said
"But you also made it seem like it would be a very dangerous journey too the Ashes spread on me when a gust of wind from a leaf fan like everyone else would do." Devon said
The Elder smiled "ah the Knowledge of the brightest Ovate in the monastery. Yes I knew you caught onto that. Tell me boy, do you remember the night when your mother died?" He asked
"Not much but I do remember her ashes over me and you explaining later that because of that I have rose the ranks so quickly." He said
The elder nodded a slim smile on his face "very quickly. I'm afraid I can't convey exactly how quickly." He said
"Oh?" Devon asked
"Do you remember when we had to ban you from the library?" The Elder asked
Devon looked down "I spilled a drink on one of the oldest books in the monastery. And was forever banned from entering unless directly supervised and only able to get books from teachers directions." He said guiltily
The Elder nodded "yes that was the punishment…however that's not the whole truth…nor is it the reason for the punishment." He said
Devon looked up "it's not?" He asked
The elder shook his head "no…the reason for the punishment is because by the time of that incident you had read half the total number of books in the library. That's more than anyone else in living history. Probably from your mothers bookworm nature. But the scary thing was that you were able to recite every passage you've laid your eyes on from memory. Something previous Druids were only able to have an ability of, from myth. In truth you were rising the ranks too quickly. If you had kept up at your current pace we would have nothing left to teach you. And even then you succeed." The Elder said as he paused to sip his tea.
"In truth Young Devon. This shouldn't be your Ovate Ceremony. But in fact your full Rise to Druid to be one of us and given the ability to travel the isles and gather new knowledge for the monastery for future Druids." He said
"I'm only being told now because of my maturity…" he said
The elder nodded "the book you ruined is not at all damaged we just needed an excuse to slow your progress to better time the relationship of events." The elder said
"The relationship of events?" Devon asked
"Tell me in your class of modern magic what do you know of modern conflict's?" The elder asked
"Umm you mean the War with You know who?" He asked
The elder nodded
"Not much but he had a lot of fear around him and a massive following. We didn't discuss about the end of the war only that it happened recently." Devon said
"Very recently. Back to the night your mother died?" The elder said as he took out an old newspaper and put it down in front of him. From a local paper that vets it's sources From the daily prophet but also doesn't blast anything from .
Devon reads the title
You-know-Who dead at Potters home.
Boy-who-lived only survivor.
Devon shut his eyes. As he looked up
"Listen Devon, your time at the Monastery is growing short but your journey is just beginning." He said
"What is my journey?" Devon asked
"That is something only you can figure out however before her death a prophecy was given about and the Boy. Needless to say we believe your roles are interlinked." He said
"Roles? Wait you think I'm destined to help destroy You know who?" Devon asked
"If not that then help the one who is and insure it happens." The Elder said
You don't believe he's dead like the paper do you?" Devon asked
The elder shook his head. "No…tell me have you ever looked into the death of your mother?" He asked
"I thought it would be forbidden because of my banishment from the library." He shrugged
The Elder nodded "if you did you would see that her death wasn't natural. But poisoned. Magickly so, only a few powerful Dark wizards in history have the power to do that, Voldemort being one of them.
"So how did she die?" Devon asked
"She was sent to gather information about the war happening, and she as such felt into the grasp of the death eaters. And I believe she had a run In with Voldemort himself. Somehow during then he poisoned her. Probably as a means to take over her body should he perish. Your aware in your studies he was obsessed with immortality." The elder said
Devon nodded
"It is believed that her presence of the sacred oak grove caused the evil magic to burn off but also kill her. Hence she burned to ash instead of natural decay. However the forest itself purified her ashes no evil has latched onto you during the ceremony." The elder explained easing his worry.
Devon nodded "So then what do I do?" He asked
"It is believed that in two years Mr. Potter will attend Hogwarts. In that year you will also attend and guard him with your life, train him. And prepare him for the upcoming battle with Voldemort." The elder said
"I'm going to need to go to the school then but I'm over the age for my acceptance. How will I get in?" Devon asked
The elder smiled "leave us to worry about that. For now we should work on making sure your ready to enter the Wizarding world." The Elder said
Devon looked confused but the Elder held his hand up. "We've been grateful to have time be unaffected to us in this monastery but the rest of magickal Britain has not been so kind." He said
"Where do I go to start?" Devon asked
"Diagon Alley and go to Gringotts. It's probably best you get an apartment there as well. You will always be accepted to the monastery and any other associated with us. But you should learn to live away from us." The Elder said
Devon nodded and stood up and bowed "thank you My Elder." He said as he turned to leave
"Ovate Devon." The Elder said making him turn.
"If you are successful by the time you return from Hogwarts you will be a full Druid." He said
Devon nodded and left. The Elder leaned back in his chair "just be careful around them you know how much they distrust the people of the old ways despite saying they are continuing our legacy." He said
Devon gathered his stuff he needed for his travel to London. As another Druid turned to him
"You will arrive at London by Floo. And have access to diagon alley once you get there. To return you just need to say "the monastery" and it will take you here. Other acceptable words are "home" and "Safe bed." He said as he handed him a vile of Floo powder.
"Are you ready?" The Druid asked
Devon nodded as they reached the fireplace and raised his fist "diagon Alley!" Devon said as he snapped the Floo powder down and vanished in green flame.
