Number 5 privet drive was a unique house on the street.
Not because it looked unique. But because of who was in it
The occupant was one 15 year old Devon Oakland. A Druid with a job
To protect the boy who lived, Harry Potter.
After last year Harry's first year at Hogwarts and the reveal that Voldemort was still alive Devon had been quiet watchful on Harry.
He didn't think it was working much.
It was a hot summer and he looked out the window of the house and saw Petunia Dursley toss Harry outside to weed the garden.
Devon didn't like how they were treating him. But he couldn't do anything about it yet.
He kept watching from Afar
Petunia Dursley looked over to see Devon looking at her and she rushed back inside.
Devon sighed
The next day he spoke to Harry as he was walking down the street. He brought him over to his house.
Devon sat Harry at the table
"Harry you know I'm here now so if you need to talk to me at all you can come over and stay here." Devon said
Harry shrugged "it's not so bad…they're being nicer than before." He said
Devon didn't like how Harry said it like that but there was nothing he could do.
And the next few days he found out he was right as his uncle then put bars on Harry's windows.
Devon sighed, it appeared he had no choice now this was way too cruel to Harry. As he sent off the letter to Ron Weasley
Late at night he heard a crash Devon rolled out of bed and grabbed his staff on the way down he opened the curtain
And saw a ford anglia floating near the second floor window of his neighbor's house
"Bloody idiot!" Devon hissed as he grabbed his stuff ( he had fortunately packed before he mailed Ron and headed downstairs
Devon was in front of the house in a second
And using his Druid magick he jumped and landed on the hood making the boys jump
"Ah!" Fred and George gasped
"Hello boys!" Devon hissed as he looked to Harry
"Get in here!" He hissed
"But hedwig!" Harry said
"Open the cage and let her go well buy you a new cage later!" Devon said as he saw the locks on Harry's door all seven of them and one by one they began to unlock
"Quick!" Devon hissed
Harry opened the cage and hedwig flew off as Harry jumped on the Boot of the car
"Go go go!" Devon hissed
Fred who was driving didn't hesitate and flew away as uncle Vernon was waving his hand in the air but didn't yell after them.
Devon sighed he looked at Harry with a glare
"Not that bad of a summer?" He asked him
"Well…that was before Dobby appeared and got me in trouble for underage magic I didn't do." He said
Devon rolled his eyes "fucking ministry and corrupt officials." He said
"Hey you wanna get in here?" George asked
Harry and Devon climbed into the car and sat in the back
As the Weasley twins talked to Devon and Ron.
By the time they landed at the house it was sunrise and They had been up all night.
George opened the door to the Kitchen and let them into the burrow. He put a finger on his lips to be quiet "if we're good mum won't be up and catch us-oh…" the words died on his lips
"Oh please finish what you were saying GEORGE WEASLEY! YOUR MOTHER IS VERY INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY?!" Molly Weasley yelled
Fred winced "mum not so loud please." He said cringing
"OH OH IM SORRY YOUR TIRED AREN'T YOU AFTER A MIDNIGHT ROMP IN THE CAR! CONSIDER IT A START TO YOUR PUNISHMENT!" She yelled
"But mom we got guests Harry is here and Devon!" Ron said
"Ronald Weasley you too! Fred and George Weasley I'll ring your necks for corrupting your brother!"
Harry walked in with Devon. Who had a comforting hand on Harry's shoulder. He winced as he made contact with Miss Weasley
Upon seeing Harry. Her mood changed drastically.
"Oh hello Harry how nice to see you. How about you sit down we can make you breakfast." She said
"Wow thanks mum!" The twins said
Molly rounded on them instantly "Not you! Get up stairs and get dressed Ginny will be up soon and your father will be home. After that you can de-nome the garden. Ron will join you!"
"Wha-but mum?" Ron whined
"No you stayed up and now you have to pay the consequences besides that was supposed to happen 3 weeks ago!" Molly said
Finally everyone was finally sitting down to eat. When pitterpatter was heard above them.
"Mum have you see my jumper?" Ginny asked
"On your dresser dear." Molly said
Ginny nodded and met eyes with Harry and her face turned as red as a tomato and ran up stairs.
Harry rolled his eyes 'Aw great'
Devon looked at the two frozen as did ever else. However Devon saw things differently while they saw Ginny having a crush on Harry and something they would grow out of Devon say a link.
A little golden thread connecting the two of them
Those who were fucking soul bonded
And the shit of protecting Harry Potter just got more complicated.
"Fuck!" Devon hissed
In a instant Molly rounded on him "language!" She snapped at Devon
Devon didn't listen as he stood up "I've got to speak to Dumbledore I'm sorry I can't stay I will try to be back as soon as I can. Have a good morning Harry. Good to see you, Gred and Forge."
Devon leaned close to Harry and whispered "get yo know Ginny it's in your interest."
Harry looked up at him in shock and he just winked
"Trust me."
Devon looked at Molly
"Do you have an anti-apparition Charm around your property?" He asked
Molly shook her head.
"No but the property is warded I don't know why you think-."
Devon cut her off "it's fine thanks for the meal and Weasley I'll try to be back by the end of the day." Devon grabbed his staff.
"Ray of light! find me to my paths converse!" Devon said and slammed his staff Down on the ground and in a blinding flash of light he was gone.
As Ginny came down stairs at the right time to see him leave. As she was stunned she started walking forward trying to find her spot
And bumped into the table sending her falling to the ground
Or would have if Harry hadn't caught her. "Careful careful." He said as he put her in her chair and opened her eyelids
"Ah she's dazed, probably looking from the light." Harry said
Ron nodded "I'll get the blindfold." He said as he ran off
And then Mr Weasley came home
"Hello!"
( Hogwarts)
Albus Dumbledore was sitting at his deck when suddenly a bright flash occurred in his office his wand in his hand suddenly Devon appeared swaying a bit but stabling himself
"Ugh note to self Light travel can breech Amit a apprations wards but only if your going at top speed and you get a hell of a ringer after." Devon said
Dumbledore sat stunned before clapping
"Wow excellent use of Druid magic Devon." And thank you for that note I'll write it down," Dumbledore said
Devon smiled "I'm very happy to give you a show but I'm afraid I have urgent news that I must speak to you about." He said
"And I assume it's the reason you didn't use the floo?" Dumbledore asked
Devon paused "does the Weasley's have a floo?" He asked
Dumbledore nodded
"Well that will probably be less intrusive going back thank you," Devon said
"I assume because you are asking Harry is safely located at the Burrow?" Dumbledore asked
Devon nodded "yes and within the weeks I'll be investigating Vernon Dursley for child abuse." Devon said
Dumbledore shook his head "I already jumped on it in the coming days I will be going down there myself and persuading them to be nicer to Harry." But please tell me what happened.
Devon did and by the end Dumbledore was ashen
"Oh sweet lily forgive me I fear I have failed your son." He said
Devon nodded "he needs to get out of there."
"Agreed but I'm not sure if there is any place safe enough for him. Probably under fillus but that can be broken." Albus said
"For now I can house him until we figure out what to do."
Dumbledore nodded "now what did you want to speak about." He asked
"If I'm correct Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley have a soul bond link." Devon said
Dumbledore sat in awe.
"Are you sure of this?" He asked
Devon shook his head "I saw it clear as day." He said
Dumbledore nodded "even so I'd like to have a verified aura reader to check on them." He said
Devon nodded "I heard from Fred and George that there eldest Brother Bill was one." He said
Dumbledore nodded "the curse breaker…yes but I believe he's in Egypt right now…perhaps we can have them take a vacation with Harry as well." Dumbledore said
You'll allow that?" Devon asked
"So long as you go with him." Dumbledore said
Devon nodded "done."
"Then it's settled. And if it turns out that Mr potter and Ms Weasley have a soul bond I'll begin work on reinforcing the burrow." He said
Devon nodded "I'd recommend you reinforce the burrow now probably during the school year. Just in case my house is too close." Devon said
Albus nodded and looked at the time
"Excuse me but I have a meeting with one Lucius Malfoy right now." He said as he stood up
Only for his door to burst open and Malfoy strode in along with his house elf
"DUMBLEDORE WHAT IS THIS OUTRAGE!?" He roared
"Ah Lucius I was just coming to get you." He said
"You left me waiting! And for what this punk kid could wiggle his way into the school system? I'll have your job!" Lucius Malfoy snapped
"I beg your pardon?" Devon asked with low grade mallic which made the temperature plummet in the room
Malfoy froze mid rant
"I don't know who you are but I am sure you will take back that statement." He said
Malfoy smerked
"And why would I do that?" He asked
Dumbledore coughed
"Lucius Malfoy please, I'd like to introduce to you Devon Oakland. He is an emissary of the Scottish Druidic Order in the highlands."
Malfoy froze "impossible your too you've to be a Druid it takes 30 years and your not even 18." He said
Deven smiled "I'm a quick study so yes I'm a Druid. And I'm on important business to keep the world we live in turning so tell me how your mortal politics outweigh that in matter of urgency you squib?" Devon insulted
"Why you." Lucius hissed.
Devon smiled and looked at his cane
"Oh please I have more magic in my pinky then. You have in your entire body and wand…and that is a nice long wand you have there." Devon said eyeing his cane.
Malfoy froze the wand hidden his cane was supposed to be a secret.
Devon smiled knowing he intimated Malfoy enough.
"I'll be going, Dumbledore. Please think of what I said the Dryads would love to help repopulate the forests."
Dumbledore nodded "I will if I can get the minister to sign off on it to allow them to migrate into England."
Devon nodded and flood back to the burrow.
At the burrow Devon landed in the room and stepped out looking at a shocked Harry, Ron and Ginny by the couch
Devon looked at them in shock "what?" He asked
Harry was allowed to stay the rest of the summer so was Devon. They were fortunate that the Weasley's had two spare rooms as Bill was indeed in Egypt. And Charlie was in Romania.
So Harry slept in Bills room and Devon was given Charlie's room
Well they tried to give him Charlie's room
"Oh but why won't you take it honey?" Molly whined
Devon shook his head "your property is fine Molly Id prefer to sleep in the forests nearby." Devon said
"But it's a forest with pine cones and dirt?" She said
Harry and Ron looked at each other "does she know he's a Druid and for him it's just a plus for him?" Harry asked
Ron shrugged.
Eventually an agreement was reached with Molly learning he was a Druid. That he'd be willing to sleep outside so long as he set up a hammock. And had plenty of blankets. And understood if he needed to come inside during the night he was free to do so.
Devon thanked them for her kindness and went outside to prepare his sleeping quarters.
Harry had gone outside to talk to him before he went to bed
"Hey." Harry said mutely
Devon turned and smiled gently as he strung up his hammock
"Hey Harry."
"I umm…I wanted to thank you for what you did this summer. Even if I couldn't come by as often I um knowing you were nearby helped a lot." He said
Devon nodded
"Don't worry. I have that house for the next 7 years so you can always come by if you need me to." He said
Harry nodded and sat down.
"So Um…was it you who sent the letter to Ron?" Harry asked
Devon looked at him "I don't know what your talking about." He said
Harry gave him a glare 'don't lie to him like he does please.' Harry's eyes read
Devon sighed "sorry. I won't do it again. Yes I did I didn't want to tell you for fear of well…your reaction." He said
Devon was shocked as Harry gave him a hug
"Thank you.." he said
Devon smiled
"Of course Harry. Me and Dumbledore are trying our best to get you out of there but your safty is a factor too with V-you know who back we can't be too careful." Devon said
Harry nodded "yeah…I understand." He said
Devon squeezed his sholder "don't worry as I said my door is always open."
Harry nodded "thank you…I'll let you get ready to sleep." He said
Devon nodded "ok…oh how are thingd going with Ginny?" Devon asked
Harry blushed "there's good. I've been able to strike up a Conversation now and she doesn't blushed like a tomato. And we can have a goon conversation going."
"How does she make you feel?" Devon asked
Harry paused "umm…hard to describe." He said
Devon however knew what he meant 'another point for soul bond.'
Devon nodded "hey Harry Lammas is coming up if you want to I can help you celebrate it?" Devon asked
Harry smiled "can Ginny join too?" He asked
'Another point.' Sure ask Ron about it and give her a crash course about the festivals." Devon said
Harry nodded "Harry…" Devon said
Harry looked back
"I know it's kinda hard celebrating the festivals in your home." Devon said
Harry nodded "yeah but I was able to improvise." Oh perhaps you can teach me some untraceable Druid Magick or just other magick I can use to defend myself. I've got a note from the ministry that if I am caught using underage magic again they'll break my wand." Harry said
Devon stands up and glares "if they do that I'll instantly whisk you away to the Druidic order and train you there." He said
Harry stumbled back in shock
Devon noticing he was giving off the wrong vibe stopped and took a deep breath.
"I just want you safe…goodnight Harry." Devon said
Harry nodded and headed inside.
Upstairs in the burrow Ginny Weasley was watching them from the window.
