Two years earlier, Mileena learned of Jade's marriage to the new emperor Kotal Kahn. Kitana had already warned her not to show herself in public in Outworld, only out of fear that they would find out that Mileena had survived Earthrealm's invasion.

Jade had brought her to Shao Kahn's old room while Kotal stayed with the guests in the throne room.
Jade turned to her in a hushed voice, "I thought Kitana told you not to come here!"
