Ch40
Magnus looked at himself in the mirror and combed his hair. Its not that bad he thought as he wore his one of his nicer outfits which consisted of a button down short sleeve shirt and a pair of dress pants. Sadie dresses really casually too why do I have to dress so well he thought as he made sure he was all ready for see his friend.
"Hey Magnus you look great," Blitz said as he entered his room.
He smiled at the dwarf as he ignored the weird feeling in his stomach, "Thanks, though I am sure she wont care what I wear." He had met up with Sadie Kane like twice already, the two had a good time each time he saw her the only problem as that Blitz and Hearth had a habit of coaching him a bit too much and thought something else was going on.
He still remembered the first time he went out and Blitz and Hearthstone found out he was going to hang out with Sadie they were so shocked that he was going to hang out with a girl in regular clothes that he was afraid that they were going to pass out. I don't even dress that badly. Blitz and Hearthstone both had the habit of acting like his parents, he didn't mind it since they gave him his space and they made food for him.
"Don't worry you will be great just relax. I am sure you will both have a good time," Blitz said as he patted his back.
"Thanks, but we are just friends honestly," he said. He honestly wasn't sure what Sadie thought of him, she was friendly but he could tell that she was reserved about something. But with all that was going on with the war and school he was glad he could just relax and hang out with friends. Though he had to admit he was pretty busy lately. Ever since last summer he had been training with his powers and with the sword Gram. Blitz and Hearthstone have been helping him a lot and his father too whenever he came around. He was gaining the hang of his powers and could manipulate the growth of plants in addition to disarming opponents and healing others.
My powers aren't offensive like Percy's but they are still pretty cool he thought as he walked out and said goodbye to Hearthstone. The deaf elf nodded at him and signed good luck to him, he thanked him and headed out the door.
He headed towards the small café they were meeting at. It wasn't far from his place and Sadie said it was close to her as well. He had Gram on him just in case of any monsters which he had to be extra careful around now since he used a cellphone. The idea of a cellphone was his own, he figured if Annabeth had one then he could have an emergency phone just in case he didn't have a drachma on him. Though in the few weeks since he met Sadie Kane they communicated with him quite a bit and he had to take care of a few monsters that were attracted to the signal.
"Its a nice day," Gram said in his head.
"Yeah hopefully it stays nice and calm," he said as he headed towards the café. He looked around and saw that she had not arrived so he sat down and ordered something for himself while he waited for her.
"Hey Magnus sorry I'm late," Sadie said as she approached the table. Magnus looked up and saw Sadie running up to him with a smile on her face. She was dressed in a casual outfit and he could smell the perfume on her and he couldn't help but admit that she looked rather pretty.
"Its alright I haven't been waiting long," he said as Sadie sat down across from him
"So," she said with a smile. "What have you been up to lately?" She asked as the waiter came by and took her order.
"Oh just busy with school and all. I hang out with my friends in the free time and we usually go out and do stuff," he said as he took a bite from the crepe he ordered. "What about you?"
"Oh you know just getting used to the city. I am getting used to the school system and all," Sadie said with a sigh. "But at least I have you to show me around the city," she said with a smile.
Magnus felt his face redden, "Yeah I don't mind I've lived here for a while. Did you move here with your family?"
Sadie nodded though he noticed that she shifted in her seat a bit, "Yeah but I usually hang out with my brother since our dad is busy," she said with a sigh.
"Ah ok, I usually have my place to myself since my dad is busy. His friends keep an eye on me though," he said.
Sadie chuckled, "Yeah a family friend watches over me and my brother too. Our uncle visits once in a while to check up on us."
"That's cool, so how do you like the states so far?" He asked as he ate some fruit he ordered.
"Oh good, I grew up in LA but it is nice being here from London," Sadie said. "I've met some nice people too," she said avoiding his gaze slightly.
"Oh that's good; I know being in a new place can be intimidating at first," he said.
"Yeah true," Sadie said with a sigh before looking back up at him. "But New York is interesting I am glad to be here."
"Yeah it is interesting," he said as he finished his food.
"Hey kid this girl she seems off," Gram said in his head.
"Well unless she is a monster I don't care," he responded.
"No she is human just different," Gram said. "Just be careful."
"I will she doesn't seem bad," he said as he smiled at Sadie.
"So what do you like the best about New York?" He asked.
"Hmm," Sadie said as she looked up at the sky. "Well this place is really exciting but I would say I like the different foods and stuff."
"Cool, yeah there are a lot of good places around here," he said. "Oh do you like ice cream I know a great place in Manhattan?"
Sadie's face lit up, "Of course, afterwards did you want to the mall, I want to buy some stuff."
"Sure," he said as he finished up his food. He payed for both of them and they both left the café and headed towards Manhattan.
"Thanks for paying that place was nice," Sadie said as she wrapped her arm around his.
Magnus felt his face redden at having her a little too close to him but he didn't really mind, "Thanks, I've been there a few times it's a nice little place."
The two walked along the river as they approached a bridge to Manhattan, he looked up at the Empire State Building peaceful times like this will get rarer and rarer he thought as he wrapped his arm around Sadie. Yeah they had been on a few dates but he enjoyed her company almost as much as being with Percy or Rachel.
The bridge was full of people and as the two walked across it he told Sadie about some of the landmarks nearby and some of the fun stuff to do around Manhattan as she had not gone before. However, as they were walking across the bridge just at about the halfway point they heard someone call Sadie's name. "Sadie get back here!"
Sadie nearly jumped off of him as they turned around. There was a tall black man who looked like a jazz magician with the build of a mobster. The man was looking at him as if he were about to kidnap Sadie who was gripping his hand. "U-Uncle Amos!" She said in surprise.
"You know him?" He asked looking at Sadie who looked shocked and surprised.
Sadie nodded as she held onto him, "Yeah he is my uncle, his name is Amos." She then turned to face her uncle. "I didn't know you were coming."
Her uncle looked tense as he stared up at the Empire State Building and back at them. His eyes weren't hostile but they definitely gave a get your hands off of my daughter vibe. "Sadie get back here now," he said firmly.
"Uncle I am kind of busy," Sadie said with a sigh pointing to him with her hand. "We made plans today to spend time together."
"Sadie get away from him and come here now," Uncle Amos said sternly.
"Did I do something wrong?" He whispered to her.
"No he probably just has the wrong idea since I didn't let my brother know I was going," Sadie said giving him a sympathetic look.
She then turned back to her uncle. "Uncle, its ok he asked me out we are just going to get ice cream, I'll be back later," she said with a sigh.
"Sadie you cannot go with him come back now," Uncle Amos said. Magnus looked at him, the guy was big but he seemed more worried than angry.
"Uncle I am ok I chose to go with him," Sadie said giving her uncle a look that said please leave I am ok.
Her uncle sighed, "Please Sadie just come with me you cannot go with him."
"Why not uncle? He asked me out and I said yes," Sadie said through gritted teeth as she gripped his arm tightly. Magnus gulped as he felt Sadie against him as he felt the tension in the air.
"Sadie there are things I cannot explain please just come back and don't go," Her uncle said in a tone that sounded almost as if he were begging her to return.
He looked at Sadie and noticed that she was giving her dad a leave me alone kind of look. Suddenly a woman appeared behind Sadie's uncle. She had tan brown skin and was wearing an outfit that looked as if it were inspired by a cat. "Sadie listen to your uncle come back," the woman said.
"Uh oh kid that woman is trouble," Gram said in his head.
"Who is she?" He asked as he gripped Sadie close to him, everything about that woman made his hairs stand on the edge, he felt as if a bomb were about to go off as he met her eyes.
"Bast? What's the big deal? I can choose who I go out with and we are just getting some ice cream," Sadie said in a mixture of shock and anger. The woman looked at both of them, when his eyes met hers he did not sense hostility just unease. Are they that overprotective of her?
"Sadie dear this is complicated but just please listen to me and come home," The woman pleaded.
He heard Sadie sigh in exasperation as she slowly loosened her grip on him. She looked up at him and she looked very upset. "Sorry Magnus it looks like I have to go now," she said with a small smile.
He nodded, "Sure I understand, sorry if I got you in trouble."
"Its not your fault," she said as she gave him a hug. He hugged her back before she pulled away. "I'll text you later I promise," she said seriously.
"Ok I hope things work out for you," he said. Sadie smiled at him as she turned around and headed towards her uncle and the woman who was dressed as a cat. The two looked sad but they did not appear to be angry at him, in fact they seemed pretty sad at the whole thing.
"Kid don't take this the wrong way but if they are who I think they are this might be for the best," Gram said in a sympathetic tone
"What do you mean by that?" He asked not knowing what was really going on, maybe Sadie just had an overprotective family.
"I don't know if you want to know that answer yet," Gram said carefully.
"Never mind then," he said with a sigh as he watched Sadie leave with her family. "I guess I might as well go home then," he said with a sigh. He felt a bit confused at what had happened but there was nothing he could really do if her guardians wanted her home.
Seeing as his date ended he headed home. When he got home he was surprised to see someone there besides Blitz and Hearthstone. "Hey Magnus how are you man?" TJ asked, the Einherjar smiled at him as he sat across from Blitz.
"Good what brings you here?" He asked. TJ was about the only Norse demigod he got along with, he even was cool with Percy.
"Oh just came to check up on everything down here. Gunilla is busy with Mallory with our assignment," TJ said with a sigh.
"How was your little get together?" Blitz asked
"Oh it was good her Uncle made her come home," he said with a sigh as he sat down next to the dwarf.
"Awe too bad sorry to hear about that," Blitz said as he patted his back. "Well if you are up to it did you still want to train?"
"In a little bit I want to rest a bit," he said. Blitz and TJ nodded as he got up and decided to change into some normal clothes. When he returned he found TJ speaking with both Hearthstone and Blitz. "So what's been new with you guys?" He asked as he sat down next to Hearthstone.
TJ sighed as he sat back in his chair. "Good just trying to do this mission and all."
"What is it you guys are doing exactly?" He asked, he knew Gunilla did not like him that much and did all she could to not talk about his father's world with him but TJ was usually more open about that sort of stuff.
TJ looked at Blitz who nodded, "Well you know Loki right?"
"Yeah um Thor's brother right?" He said.
TJ sighed, "No that's only in the comics, in reality he is Odin's blood brother. Anyway we think he is trying to escape so we are making trying to prevent him from doing so."
"Wow sounds difficult," he said. From what he knew about Loki he knew he was a cunning trickster. That guy also gives me the creeps the memory of his encounter with him still gave him chills, whatever he wants it cannot be good.
"Believe me it is," TJ said with a sigh. "But we will pull through we think we are close to our objective. Anyway how are things with you?"
"Good just busy with school and stuff," he said with a sigh. That and getting ready for a war.
"That's cool we hope to be done with our mission soon," TJ said. "Oh did you want me to help you practice with Gram today?"
"Sure sounds good," he said. Not like I have anything else to do.
TJ smiled at him, "Great then lets do this," he said as he got up and picked up his rifle from behind the chair.
They all left the apartment and headed towards an open area near his apartment that he used for practice and engaged Sigurd's armor and activated Gram. TJ stepped in front of him with his bayonet in hand dressed in his Civil War era uniform. TJ told him how he was a Civil War era soldier when he was alive and how he was an einherjar now, it was a little confusing but he got used to it. Apparently he has experience working with Greek demigods too.
He then noticed a figure descend from the sky. He turned to see the familiar hijab wearing girl who usually looked after him, "Hello Sam how are you?" He asked.
Samirah nodded at him as she gripped her weapon in her hand, "I am good thanks for asking, I just managed to get away from my guardians for a bit."
"Ah ok that's cool we were just going to practice a bit," he said. Samirah was supposed to watch him for some reason and while she was more reserved than TJ he thought she was ok despite being a little annoying."
"Good luck Magnus," Blitz shouted as he and Hearthstone sat on the sidelines.
"Thanks," he said as he gripped Gram and watched TJ make a stance. That was when TJ charged at him with his bayonet.
He was caught off guard a bit as TJ thrusted at him with his bayonet. He managed to block his strike but TJ was quick and attached him again as he tried to attack. The two were engaged in a clash of weapons as Magnus felt himself pushed like never before. TJ fought like a cunning wild animal, who was unrelenting in his assaults. Had he not worn Sigurd's armor he would have been hurt much more. He managed to get a few strikes on TJ but they seemed to no hurt him, that or he just ignored the pain.
"Not bad Magnus," TJ said when they both were done. They both were tired as Hearthstone gave them some water to drink.
"Thanks you are a good fighter," He said as he took a deep breath. His body was sore and he was sweating all over.
"Thanks, we einherjar train for Ragnarök," TJ said with a smile.
"Cool well you seem prepared," he said.
TJ laughed, "Thanks but I have a lot more work to do." TJ then turned to face Samirah, "Hey did you want to train with him?"
Samirah looked at both of them and sighed, "Sure why not. I'll try and not hurt him," she said as she got up and grabbed her ax.
Oh don't worry I won't he thought as he gripped Gram in his hand. He watched Samirah grip her ax and then she charged at him. He parried the ax with Gram but Samirah was very quick and can at him from a different angle.
She is quick he thought as he barely managed to dodge a swing from her ax. However, Samirah quickly swept him with her leg and he found himself knocked down to the ground. He tried to get up but Samirah put her ax to his neck. "You are getting better but you should work on your footing more," she said.
He sighed, "Yeah thanks." Samirah helped him up and she put away her giant ax. "You know you seem nicer than that Gorilla girl.
TJ looked like he wanted to laugh but he noticed that Samira smiled a bit, "Thanks, she is a bit difficult to work with."
"Hey Magnus are you busy?" said a voice he recognized as belonging to Percy. He turned around and saw Percy walk towards them with a smile on his face.
Magnus felt his heart skip a beat as he waved at him, "Hey Percy no we just finished. You remember TJ and Samirah right?"
Percy nodded, "Yeah long time no see."
"Yes nice to see you again," Samirah said. Percy found Percy a bit difficult to be with but she was usually civil to him since Percy was nice and considerate to her. The two shook hands and Percy looked at all of them.
TJ nodded and smiled, "Hey long time no see." TJ was usually friendly with Percy and actually enjoyed talking with him though he could tell he was a little on edge when Percy was around even though they were friendly towards each other.
"Nice to see you," Percy said as he and TJ shook hands. Percy then turned to face him, "Oh Magnus I got the Pegasi necessary for our trip," he said as he looked at TJ and Samirah nervously not knowing if he should talk about their quest in front of them.
"I'll go inside," TJ said.
"No wait," Blitz said. "Magnus, TJ and Samirah would be a great addition for your quest. You may need all the help you can get."
Magnus looked at Percy who appeared to be thinking the same thing. "Alright fine, we don't know what we may face so we can use the help."
"Cool then I'm looking forward to working with you both," TJ said with a smile.
Samirah nodded, "Yes I don't mind helping you both. I might actually be of help to you detecting any monsters.
Percy nodded and smiled, "Great then we should prepare for it as much as we can."
"Good then we should prepare well. There maybe unforeseen things along the road," Blitz said. Magnus and Percy both nodded. "But for now lets eat lunch; Magnus you should rest some more."
"Fine I will," he said with a sigh. I am feeling hungry, hopefully this mini quest does not end badly he thought as they all made their way back to his apartment. He took a look at his phone and saw a message from Sadie Kane, she said she was sorry for what happened her family was just worried about her. Well at least she is ok he thought as he went inside though for some reason whenever he thought of her and his encounter with her family he felt weird about it for some reason
AN: Yeah the Kanes will just be a small background in this story, they wont' play a major role. Though I may have plans if i end up writing a sequel to this story.
To the guest user who hates Alex, I may just make Magnus single for this story though I could see him and Will as a thing.
