Chapter 1

The (happy) announcement.

Hisana looked at her reflection in the mirror one last time. Her hair gave quite a nice contrast with her gorgeous blue eyes, she looked well rested and, after thinking several times about what she wanted to do, she decided that she had taken the right choice. It was not going to be permanent, she just needed a little bit of time and space.

Nodding at the mirror once, she grabbed her suitcase and left her room. She thought that she would be able to leave without any inconvenient, unfortunately that didn't happen.

Once she reached the top of the stairs she saw Ginrei, Soujun and Byakuya at the drawing room. She cursed her luck, she assumed that Byakuya would be busy inside his studio and, while she always loved to see them, she wasn't expecting her father in law and Ginrei to visit.

"Hisana," Soujun, who was the first one to see her, greeted her with a huge smile "how are you?"

Hisana smiled at him as she started to walk downstairs.

"I'm fine, Soujun-sama" she answered smiling back "thanks for asking."

"Going somewhere?" Byakuya asked her while eyeing her suitcase.

She stood right in front of him and raised an eyebrow at him.

"Yes, actually" she answered calmly, she wasn't going to him answers so easily, he didn't deserve them yet, besides she had promised Yoruichi to make him squirm a little. Hisana didn't like the idea but she was hurt so, for once, she was going to follow her best friend's advice.

"Where?" Byakuya asked, his cold demeanor remained unchanged.

"Byakuya..." Ginrei said warningly, he recognized his annoyance. Hisana obviously hadn't told him where she was going, that was odd.

"Oh, I'm not telling you" Hisana answered swiftly "I mean, after being ignored by you the whole last month I got to the conclusion that, perhaps, you were not interested in whatever I was doing."

Soujun took a step back, marital problems, especially his son's marital problems, were a topic he wasn't too fond of so he didn't want to get involved, and judging by Ginrei's widened eyes he was ready to bolt out of the room too.

"Please," Byakuya said while pinching the bridge of his nose "I explained about the whole project, the deal is almost closed..."

"And until you're done with it I'll be staying somewhere else" Hisana declared "I understand how important this is for you, that's why I don't want to be in your way."

"You're not in the way, don't be ridiculous" Byakuya retorted and then he grabbed her hand "I promised you that we would take the vacations we were aiming for once this is all over, just a couple of weeks more."

Hisana nodded while squeezing his hand.

"Just let me know once is over," she told him while standing on her tiptoes and kissing his cheek "I'll come back then."

She let go of his hand and walked decisively towards the front door. There was a maid ready to open the door for her, she wasn't going to look back, she was just going to be staying in a more peaceful place until her anger towards Byakuya had subsided.

"Has this something to do with your last visits to the hospital?" Byakuya asked her.

Hisana turned around.

"Hospital?" Ginrei and Soujun questioned at the same time.

"Yes, it does" Hisana confirmed.

"What did the results say?" Byakuya asked and Hisana wanted to slap him.

He was asking now?! Almost a month after she got the results?! She had tried several times to break the news on him. She planned a dinner, a lunch, a date and she even tried to tell him before he could leave towards work and every, single one of her attempts turned out futile.

"Now you care?" she asked bitterly.

No, she thought I don't need my emotions to get the best of me right now.

"You told me the results were positive" Byakuya said "since you didn't elaborate further I assumed it was nothing to worry about, am I wrong?"

Hisana clenched her fists, he didn't even ask what kind of positive she was talking about. It was in times like this that she wished he was a normal man, with a normal work that wouldn't demand so much of his time.

"Hisana," Byakuya insisted after a few seconds of silence "what did the results say?"

Hisana took a deep breath, he deserved to know after all.

"That I'm pregnant," Hisana answered as if it was no big deal but of course the men in front of her weren't ready to hear her say that.

The reactions she received would have made her laugh, if it wasn't for the fact that she was angry as hell at Byakuya. Soujun gaped, Ginrei's eyes widened as he support himself against the wall and Byakuya, whose reaction she cared the most about, dropped the papers he was holding and paled immediately.

"What?!" Soujun exclaimed with a joyous smile and approached Hisana "I'm going to be a grandfather!"

Hisana chuckled.

"Yes, you will be a grandfather, Soujun-sama" she said blushing happily, she wanted them to find out in a more elaborate manner but Byakuya ruined all of her plans so there was no use.

Soujun gave her a fatherly hug.

"Thank you so much Hisana! Thank you so much for these wonderful news!" he told her "is it a boy? Or a girl? It's too early to know, right?! Oh, I cannot wait to meet her..." he made a pause "or him."

Hisana laughed, Soujun's reaction made her truly happy.

Ginrei approached her then and held her hands kindly.

"Congratulations!" he exclaimed "this is the most wonderful news I could've ever received!"

Hisana noticed his teary eyes and his happy smile and hugged him.

"Thank you so much, Ginrei-sama" she said and then she looked at Byakuya.

He looked as if he was frozen in place by some invisible force. He wasn't the kind of man who would show his expressions openly but Hisana could tell that he was, for the lack of a better word, shocked. He looked pale and he was gaping, for a second Hisana fought the urge to take out her cellphone and take a picture.

"Son," Soujun told him "aren't you going to say anything?"

"Byakuya," Ginrei also called him "I'm pretty sure that Hisana wants to know how you feel about this amazing news."

Hisana wasn't expecting an effusive response but she wasn't expecting his next words either.

"How?" was all Byakuya could mutter.

Soujun felt the need to cut him off his will.

Hisana blushed angrily.

"I'm pretty sure that you are well aware of how babies are made" she said while raising her chin defiantly "and I'm pretty sure that you know when we conceived him, or her, since you informed me it was the best night we've had in months!"

Soujun and Ginrei looked at her with dumbfounded faces, that was out of character coming from her, she was usually so shy and proper.

"But since that's all you have to say I'll be taking my leave" Hisana announced proudly "let me know once you have some time for us!"

She turned around and the maid, who was as shocked as everyone inside the room, opened the door for her. Hisana walked decisively through the front door and made her way towards the double gates at the front of the mansion, she knew Yoruichi was already waiting for her.

"Hisana, wait!" she heard Byakuya calling her but this time she didn't turn around. She had been ignored for a whole month by him so it was her turn now, she wasn't going to give him the time of the day.

Once she reached the double gates the guard was ready to open but Byakuya ordered them not to.

"The gates won't open for her" he said angrily and the guard paled while taking some steps back.

Hisana gasped and looked at her husband.

"You cannot prevent me from leaving!" she told him "I'm not a prisoner!"

Byakuya took her by her shoulders.

"I know I neglected you due to my work but you never told me what the results were about!" he told her, he looked upset and confused at the same time "I cannot let you go like this! Where are you going to stay?! You're not even taking your security team with you!"

"I don't need a security team!" Hisana said and Byakuya could tell that her temper was raising "tell them to open the gates!"

"No!" Byakuya insisted "we need to talk!"

"I've been trying to talk the whole last month with you!" she retorted angrily "now you're the one who'll have to wait! Open the gates!"

"Hisana don't be irrational!" Byakuya said "you're carrying our child and..."

That was the limit, that was it. Hisana was extremely happy that he was already taking their child into their dynamic but this wasn't how she expected everything to happen so she pushed him and, while trying to ignore the tears rolling down her cheeks, she gave him an ultimatum.

"Unless you want me to spend the next eight months hiding from you," she told him coldly "you'll let me go right now."

Byakuya clenched his fists. This was his fault, he had ignored her while telling himself that he would eventually have all the time in the world to be with her, he never expected her to have a secret like this one, she probably wanted to surprise him and he had ruined everything by dismissing her communication attempts. He knew her better than anyone so he understood that her iron will was not to be taken lightly, she would have to let her, and his child, go in hopes that she would forgive him in a few days.

"Open the gates" Byakuya ordered as he called himself an idiot a million times.

"Thank you, Byakuya-sama" Hisana said as she turned around and once she was outside she opened the passenger's door of Yoruichi's car.

Byakuya knew that he deserved it but it didn't make it any easier.

"You should stop crying," Yoruichi said calmly as she parked in front of the place in which Hisana was going to stay "I don't know a lot about pregnancies but, is crying healthy for the baby?"

Hisana tried to take a calming breath.

"I, I didn't want to leave!" she admitted finally "but he's an idiot and I wanted him to listen to me!"

Yoruichi nodded to let her know she was paying attention, she imagined that Hisana leaving the Kuchiki mansion would cause quite the impact but now that the Kuchikis knew that Hisana, and the next heir or heiress, had walked outside the gates it was even more dramatic. Yoruichi was proud of her for standing her ground, Byakuya needed to apologize but he also deserved to suffer a little before that.

"Besides I have another appointment tomorrow and he has this huge meeting, I didn't want to put more stress inside his schedule" Hisana said while covering her teary face with her hands.

"Shouldn't you be thinking about you instead?" Yoruichi asked while raising an eyebrow "let's go inside the apartment, I'll make you some tea so you and the little brat can calm down, I swear that if something happens to you and your baby while you're with me Byakuya-boo will give me hell."

Hisana chuckled as they got out of the car, she would talk to Byakuya later, Yoruichi was right, she needed to calm down for the baby's sake.

"You're an idiot" Soujun said for the tenth time "you cannot be my son, I did not raise you like this."

Byakuya rubbed his temples.

"My grandchild and my daughter in law," Soujun muttered "I should've offered her to stay at my house, at least that way I would be able to be a grandfather like I always wanted to!"

Ginrei sighed.

"We're talking about Hisana" he said while crossing his arms "the way she is she wouldn't have listen to reason, she obviously just wants to be as far away from Byakuya as possible" he looked at Byakuya then "so the fact that we cannot enjoy our grandchild is entirely your fault."

Byakuya wanted to tell them that it was too early to make a fuss about the child, they wouldn't be able to enjoy the child's laughter or company until the nine months were up after all, but he knew that he would be lying, he wanted to be next to Hisana in every step of the journey and now not only was he denied the pleasure of being with his pregnant wife but he was also struggling to process the fact that he was going to be a father.

A father.

He was scared and excited at the same time, he didn't know how that was possible and to make things worst he was feeling anxious and happy, he couldn't believe that, without planning it, there was a child growing inside Hisana and that the child was a result of the deep love they shared. He was going crazy without knowing where they were or with whom, but of course finding out was going to be impossible.

"She has Yoruichi's help," Byakuya said "I won't find her unless she wants to be found, we'll have to wait for now."

Soujun scoffed.

"I won't be talking to you until Hisana comes back" he told his son "and I swear that if she does not come back in less than a month I'm changing my will."

Byakuya frowned.

"Really?" he asked not affected in the slightest, he was not going to spend so much time so far away from his wife and child, he wouldn't be able to stand that "and who is going to be your heir?"

"My granddaughter, obviously" Soujun declared while leaving the room angrily.

Byakuya blinked confused.

"He always wanted a girl" Ginrei explained after seeing Byakuya's expression "and just for the record" Ginrei added with a smile "I always wanted a girl too."

Byakuya simply closed his eyes and rubbed his temples again.

Three days later Yoruichi visited Hisana again at their apartment. They were both the owners since they bought it when they were young to have a safe space far away from their families, they never sold it and they never told anyone about it, not even their husbands.

"How did the appointment go?" Yoruichi asked Hisana "I wanted to come sooner but I could tell your husband sent someone to follow me, I had Kisuke pretend to be run over by the strange fellow so I could come see you."

Hisana chuckled.

"Is Kisuke-san okay?" she asked.

Yoruichi shrugged.

"He knows how to handle one or two car accidents" she said smirking "so, the brat?"

Hisana placed her hands over her belly.

"Healthy, as far as we can tell" she said "I've already been prescribed a prenatal vitamin and folic acid, and well... the usual blood and urine tests."

Yoruichi nodded as she put an arm around her best friend's shoulders.

"And how are you feeling?"

Hisana gulped.

"I miss him a lot," she said sadly "but I'm not ready to talk to him yet."

Yoruichi smiled.

"You didn't hear it from me" she said secretly "but the Kuchikis are losing their shit, especially Byakuya, he's been working from home because he cannot concentrate on anything right now."

Hisana laughed.

"Oh my God, it shouldn't be funny" she said "although I'm glad the press is not giving us troubles."

"It's a matter of time" Yoruichi said "they'll be fucking vultures once you start showing, fuck, are you going to make it public?"

"I haven't decided" she said "that's a choice we'll have to take together with Byakuya-sama"

Yoruichi agreed as she took out a cellphone from her purse and handed it to Hisana.

"Now," she said "I know I was the one who told you to make him squirm but I have to admit that I pity him a little" she chuckled "and I don't want Kisuke to put himself between another car again."

Hisana smiled.

"It's untraceable, I presume?" she asked.

Yoruichi nodded.

"A message won't hurt" she said and then winked "and a picture would make him quite happy, don't you think?"

Hisana sighed.

"Well," she said "it's not proper for a married woman like me to ignore her husband, right?"

It was almost midnight when Byakuya's cellphone rang, he hadn't been able to sleep properly the last three days so, without anything else to do and hoping these weren't bad news, he opened the message.

From: Unknown number.

"I'm not showing yet and she (or he) is extremely small, but I'm already telling her (or him) all about you, although we're not letting you seeing us yet, but we're fine so please stop worrying, go to work and sleep well. Once you close the business deal we'll be ready to celebrate with you."

Byakuya felt how his heat skipped a beat when he saw the attached picture. Hisana was in a bathroom facing the mirror, she was lifting her shirt to show him her flat, and cute, abdomen.

God, he missed her.

"We love you, Byakuya-sama."

Byakuya closed his eyes.

He couldn't wait to have both of them on his arms.
